those are good- I might add for consideration: "And I'm older then I once was, and I'm younger then I'll be." (the boxer)

Here's a few from disney's Lion King (I'll modify this as the movie progresses):
"There's far to much to take in here, more to find than can ever be found" (circle of life)
"Through despair and hope, though faith and love" (circle of life)
"Well I'm brave, what's out there?" (Simba, to Scar)

Psalm 30:5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
-OR-
Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

But, I think the bible would still be a famous book, and even if people didn't believe in it, they would still believe in the wisdom it holds.

Could be, but then to be very Trekky you could quote the Bajoran prophets as well. Intricate...

I love the Bible, but I think this would be an inappropriate use of it. Using God's Word as a quote for a made-up spaceship places too much significance on our little project, like by trying to give it a spiritual quality.

It's not neccicarrally even close to Gods word. At the very minimum, the bible has gone through 3 translations to get to you. greek>arabic>english. usually it goes something like this though...greek>arabic>latin>Slavic>latin>English
so I would say if we find a good enough quote, we can put it on. but there are a lot of quotes that I belive are better....

To me, it's book with alot of gret wisdom in it, but not muchsprituall command. Sprituall direction and guidadace would be a better way to put it. I have aboslutly no qulams about putting a religious quote on a plaque. But it has to be a good one.

I like this one, and to put out my opinion, I'm against a bible quote, I don't think it's necessary to head in that direction. I like to think Starfleet would keep that kind of thing to the private opinions of those that serve on a ship.
Allbeit, we are going to end up pushing Earth culture a bit in the end anyway, since that's the culture we're all familiar with, I think. And while the bible may be a famous book, it may also be something that mightn't resonate as well as a non-religious quote could.

My post was not intended to start a debate on the Bible. If you want to debate something, do so on the General Message Board -- I'm sure you will find plenty of willing participants there. But here, let us stick to the topic at hand.

Personally, I'd like to see a Shakespeare quote if it hasn't been decided yet.

find a good one, and it's a possibility.
what about this one...
"to look to the stars and wish to go there is not a dream, but an investment of faith in those who go there."
That was jsut something I came up with BTW. you don't have to have a famous author...

well, here are jsut suggestions that we can draw fro eventually.
ya know, we could also use something not earht based... make something up and credit it to an andorian or vulcan or something...
And I doubt that we'll go with latin. though it is possible.

no, but the Tcholvisky (SP???) was in russain, and According tot eh semi-canon books, the Titan has a vulcan quote. (IDIC spelled out.... but still...) It would be fitting with starfleet ideals to do somethingk like that. as such, I shall resubmit one:
"to look to the stars and wish to go there is not a dream, but an investment of faith in those who go there." - Andorian President K'cret
