".. but as it is so clear that you lack even the basic ability or intelligence to understand even the most basic of Starfleet regulations... I very much highly doubt that day will come...GET OUT."
Ghes rose a finger, "I know little of the fires of hell, Admiral, however I am well learned in combat situations-" The Denobulan decided he'd better stop; he was finally beginning to realise for himself how enraged the human actually was, and not just how much she appeared to be.
"Yes sir," he settled for, scuttling from the ready room as fast as he was able. The Denobulan did find it odd that he was fleeing from the Admiral whom was sitting in Tiberian Wong's ready room, and he also felt that the only reason he had come off worse in the exchange was due to his lower rank. The exercising of superiority in terms of rank hierarchy allowed one to win a great many contentious arguments and discussions he supposed.
Retaking the helm for what felt like the tenth time in an hour or more, Gheskori ran the standard checks that a newly arrived on duty helm officer would run when they took the station during warp speed. The Victory was performing admirably, not lacking behind any of the newer vessels in the task force, or reporting any problems. Lowlevel comm chatter among the ships in the fleet continued, mostly relayed through the Montgomery.
He also remembered to send off the warning message to the Demetrius, which in turn, presumably, distributed it out through the fleet. Gheskori didn't know which ships Patrizia Cain planned on inspecting but he supposed there was no harm in making sure all were aware of possible encounters. The Demetrius's appropriate officer sent a short reply, reading only "Thank you for your 'information' Lieutenant Commander Gheskori, it is duly noted and will be prepared and acted upon by Actual as soon as she is able."
Gheskori chuckled silently at this, the Demetrius had clearly understood the message's significance, thus they would be prepared for any visit by Cain - in which she would endlessly criticise. Her style was unneccessary, and served only to stir up fear and panicky order to make a ship fit for a spot-inspection. Gheskori still believed himself to be correct in this matter; it was a 'no brainer' as humans would call it really, although he had taken the information on board. He wondered how much longer she would remain in the ready room.
<Tag Cain>
Alerts went off on the two forward consoles. Gheskori's sight darted to it, his eyes widening and evaluating as he read its meaning. "Are you receiving this, Commander Matthew?" he asked. The Ops officer sitting beside him nodded.
"Colonel Wong," Gheskori said, pivoting in his front seat to face the command duo of Colonels Wong and Methos, now returned properly to the bridge. "Sir, we are picking up a distress call, very faint signal and short transmission only. I shall put on speakers if you so wish it sir."
A nod and wave of confirmation led to Gheskori leaning over and pressing the appropriate control. The shaky and very heavily distorted vocal came over the bridge's hidden, omnidirectional speakers:
“Starfleet, this is Jolmar Prime, we are a resistance movement on this planet, we ask that you send assistance, we ... tuning ... your frequency .... we will continue to hamper ... secure this system .. beg you to help ... as we cannot ... for long, please ... I saved your officers, I hope ... will save my people, Kleva out”
The broken transmission of the distress call ended, leaving the bridge in a bemused silence. This was very sudden; events of the inspection only having died down, they now had the distant Jolmar system to start contending with already.
"What do we do sirs?" he asked the two marine command officers. This was going to get extremely complicated and involved a lot earlier than he'd expected, Ghes realised.

Further Admiral, as I'm sure you know, quarantine regulations allow for individuals to be screened and declared free from regulations. I'm sure that Doctor Davis could examine and test you, and once you are declared fit, we'll beam you back to the Montgomery. Testing there can confirm you are free of contagion, and we will all be happy. In the meantime, I will leave Colonel Methos here to attend to you needs. Begging pardon, ma'am, but duty calls"
Tiberian beat a hasty retreat before anyone could object, leaving his three senior staff to deal with the fall out. Admittedly Gheskori had it coming, Davis needed to be there, and as for Methos, well, getting dumped on by the Captain was an important learning curve for any XO.
Methos nodded as Tiberian left the ready room.
"Admiral," Gheskori addressed Cain, "While it is fully true that I am responsible for the deadly strain of virus, I created it out of a personal interest as well as in the context of a genuine desire to fabricate an antibody for it; unfortunately that was spoilt so uncaringly by another crewmember of the Victory." A brief moment of silence ensued.
"May I say Admiral," Ghes began again, much to the chagrin of Colonel Methos - whose face seemed to be switched to a permanently-worried mode. ".. That in my humble and hopefully informative opinion, your style of command and your authoritarian leanings if you will, are not best suited to the Federation's Starfleet. Perhaps a change in your mode of operation is necessary, a more empathic outlook that will help soothe the mood of all concerned?"
Methos made a mental note to have Ghes scheduled with on of the ship's counselors and then confined to quarters until he learned how to behave in front of Flag officers.
She turned to Methos her tone adopting less of the harshness she used with Gheskori and said. “I have no use for you Colonel report to your Captain… tell him a little more discipline on this ship is desperately needed.”
"Aye, Ma'am," Methos said and then returned to bridge and informed Wong of what had happened concerning Ghes.
Just as he had finished, he heard, "Colonel Wong," Gheskori said, pivoting in his front seat to face the command duo.

"What do we do sirs?" he asked the two marine command officers. This was going to get extremely complicated and involved a lot earlier than he'd expected, Ghes realized.
"Inform the Montgomery, and wait for further instructions," Methos said. He then leaned to Wong, "Something is amiss in the Jolmar system, what do you make of it?"

"Inform the Montgomery, and wait for further instructions," Methos said. He then leaned to Wong, "Something is amiss in the Jolmar system, what do you make of it?"
"I don't know Colonel" Tiberian mused as he thought the contents of the message over in his mind. "The last time we encountered these people, they were all but begging the Kasar to bend them over and..." He trailed off, seeing the curious look Gheskori was giving him.# "Sorry Commander, I've spent too much time around marines. Continue monitoring that channel, and any other transmissions you can pick up from the Jolmar system, but under no circumstances are you to contact them back. Any connection between us and the resistance must be minimised in case the Kasar construe it as an act of war by proxy, or in case they're actually setting a trap for us"
<TAG Gheskori>
Tiberian returned and sat in his seat and gestured Methos to sit and join him as he tapped his console and drew up the transponders of the fleet and all it's surrounding entourage of tugs, trawlers and flying bath tubs. The varying miscreant vessels actually outnumbered the Federation taskforce, and Tiberian feared one of the damn vessels doing something stupid to provoke either the Kasar or the Admiral, and under present circumstances he was unsure which would be worse.
"Alright then Colonel, I want you to get a marine and security team together and ready a shuttlecraft. When we reach the fringe of the Jolmar system I want you to make a full security round of all the ships that are following the taskforce, a proper heave to and search. Take Mr Wolf with you, he could do with the experience. Check them for anything that we could charge them with, and tell them under no uncertain circumstances that they are to stay in loose formation behind the fleet unless given express permission by the Admiral herself. They can only come aboard one of the fleet ships with the permission of the vessel's commander. Make sure they know who's in charge, and that we will fire on any vessel that in any way risks war with the Kasar. But, to keep them sweet, tell them that they'll receive daily press conferences, and their questions will be answered, but only if they behave. Understood?"
<TAG Colonel Methos>
Davis exited from Tiberian's ready room, and was flagged over to the centre circle by the Colonel to join in the conversation.
"Seeing that our dear friend the Admiral has now departed us Doctor, I'm going to need you to run a full work up on Colonel Methos, Ensign Wolf and their team, as they'll be leaving us on our arrival at the Jolmar system. Just make sure that none of them are infected with this damn virus, and i'll feel better. Also, if your people can't contain this virus within the hour, I want everyone evacuated of the areas surrounding sickbay, and the deck decompressed and sealed off completely. I know it's extreme, but I need to know that the infection is 100% contained if we head into combat, and this is the only sure fire way. I'll order a cargobay to be cleared to create an emergency sickbay, but beyond that I fear you'll have to make do. One hour gentlemen, dismissed"
<TAG Davis, Methos and Wolf>
"Commander Matthew" Tiberian wheeled around to call to the Operations chief as he stood conversing at the back of the bridge. "Could you please see that cargobay one is stripped out, and has it's contents moved to cargobay two. Then I'm going to need you to fill it with cots, and any lab and medical equipment that science division can spare, or that we have in storage, it's going to become our temporary sickbay"
<TAG Commander Matthew>
~One Hour Later~
The taskforce, plus its hangers on, dropped out of warp and slowed to low impulse power as they approached the fringe of the Jolmar system. A little under 500 million kilometres away, sensor grids picked up their presence, and dozens of small patrol ships and weapon platforms powered up and trained their weapons on the fleet. Non-one fired however, as the fleet banked 90 degrees to starboard and began to serenely glide along the border, parallel to the defences, but on their side of the no mans land. On the bridge of the Victory, Tiberian stood up.
"Alright then, lets have constant short range sensor sweeps of the local defences, anything further afield will have to wait until we can get throguh that damn interference. No weapons or shields unless fired upon, and lets stay in constant contact with the rest of the fleet"
=/\=Wong to Methos, if the doctor's approved you, then you have my permission to get underway. Good hunting Colonel=/\=
<TAG Methos and Wolf>
"Very well then, Mr Gheskori, you have the bridge, please keep me appraised of anything that happens, and keep half an eye on those transmissions"
=/\=Wong to Galwyn, Tiana, please meet me in Science Lab One, let's see what we can do about that interference=/\=

Gheskori assumed that the Victory was not the only starship in the task force to pick up the transmission, but it was apparently the first ship to report it to the Montgomery. The commanding vessel acknowledged briefly and then the channel was closed. Presumably they would be tapping in and listening to the distress call themselves.
The further instructions part of his orders came into play when the Colonel told him not to reply to the message under any circumstances. Gheskori doubted that was actually possible. Whatever message had been getting through to them was badly broken up in its transmission quality, with heavy distortion in the parts that were understandable. It was not the common effect associated with lack of signal quality due to large distances, so either their transmission equipment was inferior - admittedly a possibility - or the specific signal was being jammed at some point. If that were the case then someone was monitoring the transmissions - response would be the epitome of foolishness which was exactly why Colonel Wong did not want Ghes to do it.
The ships remained in warp formation, with very little else that was of note happening, for another hour. Ghes understood that they had taken the task upon themselves of searching and informing the vessels that were progressing with the task force.
The fleet dropped from warp on the edge of the system, banking away soon after. As soon as the Victory came out of the warp bubble they detected the jamming field. A blanket of interference blocking communication systems as well as a host of different sensory equipment. Gheskori ran a quick cross-reference on the level of interference between the resistance's transmission and the jamming level before them now, and was not surprised to find that the two correlated. However the jamming only came online approximately a third of the way through the message.
Almost nothing would get through now, not unless the interference level was brought down or the resistance themselves boosted their power.
As Commander Matthew was still belowdeck working on the cargo bay transfer, and Ensign Wolf was readying himself along with Colonel Methos by getting themselves checked by sickbay, Gheskori took it upon himself to run the sensor scans. He quickly found that the Colonel was right about the interference blocking them from scanning any further than the immediate sensor array and defence turret platforms.
Wong gave him the bridge and headed belowdeck. Gheskori nodded in acknowledgment but stayed at the helm, running a few more scans. He looked around the bridge and was amused at how empty it seemed now. "Science," he said, allowing the officers at the two stations to catch his eye first before he turned himself back to the viewscreen. "Maintain those scans, your ability is greater than mine from this console, perhaps you will succeed in delving further."
"What have you found?" Ghes asked them five minutes later, peering over their shoulders at the colourful displays. One had constructed a graphical image of what Ghes assumed were power signature sources.
The officer pointed to these blue dots, "A fair amount about their current configuration if nothing else, Commander," he said, "These dots represent their sensor and weapons platforms and so on; they're set in a very particular arrayed formation. There are gaps, either where they haven't finished the deployment or because of some strange Kasar preference..."
"It seems as if their positions are encouraging inbound ships to head into the system, directed along very defined trajectories," Ghes observed. "Display this on the main viewscreen, I would like to have a longer, more detailed look." He nodded to the two officers and looked to the main viewer, just in time to see the image of space, punctuated by two partially visible Starfleet vessels (the Demetrius and the Howitzer), replaced by the tactical graphic display. The Denobulan retook the helm, his eyes fixed on the large screen, analysing and pondering. So transfixed he was he failed to register the beep on his console, indicating that Colonel Methos's shuttlecraft had just launched.

~One Hour Later~
=/\=Wong to Methos, if the doctor's approved you, then you have my permission to get underway. Good hunting Colonel=/\=
=/\=We are just getting final clearance, sir. We'll be underway momentarily. And, I'll try not to have too much fun sir.=/\=
The Doc had just finished clearing the Marine/Security team and they had loaded themselves into two shuttles, better to pass through the massive "support" vessels accompanying the task force. Methos was on one and Wolf, the other.
Methos opened a channel to them.
=/\=All ships not attached to the task force report to the following coordinates. If you do not comply, you will be detained.=/\= "That should get them there, huh?" Methos asked the Marine sitting next to him, who just nodded his head in agreement.
As soon as the thirty odd ships arrived at the designated spot, Methos had all the ships commanders, beam to the largest ship there. He and Wolf were last to arrive, on design of course. He walked into what passed as a conference room/mess hall.
He then proceeded to instruct them that they were to stay 5000 Km from the edge of "No-Man's Land" or risk being fired upon by the Task Force. When the various commanders protested that they, StarFleet, couldn't do that, Methos said, "Try it and find out just what StarFleet can do."
After that, they all quieted down and Methos then told them that if they wanted to stay in the vicinity, they were to submit to an inspection by Methos' team. Any that did not, were free to leave and not return or risk being fired upon. And if they refused to leave, Methos would have them declared as hostile and be fired upon.
After his, "pep" talk, all of the commanders decided to allow the team to search their ships. Methos had them all remain where they were and he and Wolf then beamed to Methos' shuttle.
"Lt. when you inspect the ships, look for anything we can charge them with, I don't care if its a broken "taillight" as the 21st century saying goes. If you find anything, lock the computer out after you set the ship on auto pilot to SB Assailant, with a log coming from you to inform them of what happened."

Tiana and Commander Matthew had straightened out engineering. Tiana then went back to the main science lab reasoning that that was where an inspecting Admiral would expect to find the CScO. To her great relief the labs were exactly as she expected them to be. The only mess being centred on those who were actively running experiments at this moment.
Tiana reinforced her usual orders about keeping the place tidy and left a warning about the Admiral and her inspection. The settled at her favourite workstation and called up all the sensor data they had on the jamming fields around the Jolmaran system.
=/\=Wong to Galwyn, Tiana, please meet me in Science Lab One, let's see what we can do about that interference=/\=
=/\=I'm in the lab all ready, Colonel so I shall see you soon. I have some theories on how to penetrate the interference.=/\=
'but' she added silently to herself 'I have yet to think of a convincing way to test any of those ideas since I haven't yet figured out quite out they're generating the interference.'
Tiana set to work once more hoping to get her ideas into a coherent form before her captain walked through the door.

Russell left the ready room pleased that he at least had done his best for the admiral, he just hoped that she at least saw him slightly above the rest of the crew, even if it was still a screw up but just a bit better. Walking towards the turbo lift by pure chance he spotted Wong’s attempt to pull him to a small meeting that seemed to have formed in front of the command chair. One hour gentlemen, dismissed" Russell nodded as Wong spoke and then turned his attention to Methos. "Commander, if you'll meet us in the shuttle bay with your techs," Methos suggested, "Wolf you're with me." Russell thought for a moment “Colonel, i will ensure the Shuttle bay is clear then i want each and every one of your team to gather in one of the adjoining rooms to the cargo bay so that i can test you one by one and let you in clean.” Russell left the two marines as he quickly made his way out of the bridge.
Russell left the turbo lift towards the shuttle bay while still adjusting his tricorder ready for a room sweep, tapping his comm. badge he decided to check up on the sickbay situation =/\=Lieutenant, Status Report=/\= Russell continued down the corridor, ever nearing the shuttle bay. =/\=Commander, so far all our attempts to cure this virus have failed, something is different to the version that was brought back from the other universe, we think that it is affecting our cure making it into a different virus, one that seems capable of moving though metal and other solid objects. The Field is holding it back for now but it will only be a matter of time.=/\= Russell shook his head, ‘this is going to be a problem’. “Very well Lieutenant, please be advised our Captain is going to be decompressing the decks either side of sickbay in the hopes of keeping the virus under control if we come under attack. Please ensure that we have the ability to continue monitoring” Russell tapped his comm. badge and entered the shuttle bay, looking around he was glad no one was already there, “Computer, seal this shuttle bay, medical lockdown”. As the doors sealed Russell settled down to scanning the bay to ensure that everything was clean before he started clearing the crews, squads or whatever marines called themselves.
Several minutes later Russell determined the bay was clean and was pleased that he himself was also clean of the virus, moving to the door he moved towards the neighbouring room and was glad to find no one had arrived, ‘well this will be the test room then’ “Computer seal the room, medical code nine nine five bravo”. Russell did not need very long to check the room was clean and after quickly setting up his equipment Russell walked out into the corridor and looked around for the marines, after a few moments a team of marines and security walked around the corner headed by lieutenant Wolf “Ah Wolf was it not, well please come in, and the rest of you please wait out here until i call you in.” As Russell walked in with Wolf he pressed the consol next to the door to re-seal the room, this room was usually used to store equipment for the shuttles. “Take a seat Lieutenant this should not take long” Russell began the scans and was not too surprised by the results moments later, “This scan is getting better every time, you are clean. Computer permit Lieutenant Wolf into the shuttle bay” Russell nodded towards the door no longer really paying the lieutenant any thought. Moving to the consol Russell tapped a button “Next person”.
<Tag Wolf>
~~25 minutes and 13 scans later~~
Russell was growing tired of the scans but was glad when the last officer walked in, “Ok name, and what team are you with?” Russell looked up ”Captain Jasmine Kasacov, Marine, i am on Colonel Methos’s team i believe” Russell nodded to her then began the scan. Russell watched as she shifted but he understood when this happened, no one really liked medical exams but they had to be done. Russell was about to get concerned and then the tricorder beeped, looking down Russell did not like what he saw. “Computer, medical emergency, transport Captain Kasacov to sickbay immediately, medical override Davis seven seven two omega” Russell disliked what he had to do but he could not risk himself becoming infected, leaving the room for the shuttle bay he moved to Colonel Methos “Colonel, you are cleared to go, i am afraid Captain Kasacov will not be joining you as she was infected and i had to place here into quarantine”

Gheskori continued to study the graphical display of the sensor arrays, weapon turrets and mines that were set against the Victory and the rest of the task force. He had come to picture them not so much as an impenetrable wall, separating them from the Jolmar system, as he had a rotting piece of fruit. Or any impermeable object which had lots of purposely woven tunnels winding steadily into its centre, for that matter.
It did seem very much so as if the Kasar entrenched in the system were attempting to lead any would-be overt aggressors right into the system through intentionally left 'holes'. Of course, the Starfleet task force was under orders not to assume the role of an overt aggressor, but there was no harm in considering all possibilities, Ghes thought.
' Bridge inform Col. Wong that The emergency triage Station Has Been setup in Cargo bay # 1 and is fully operational’
It was Commander Matthew's voice, presumably being transmitted from the cargo bay. "Copy that, sir." Gheskori replied. He tapped his commbadge to contact Colonel Wong whom had headed down to the science lab. "Colonel Wong, this is the bridge. Commander Matthew reports that the emergency triage sickbay is ready for use should we need it."
<Tag Wong & Galwyn>
A beeping came from Ghes's console, just as Commander Matthew re-entered the bridge, nodding at people and making his way to his station. Just in time.. Ghes thought with amusement. The sensor reading that Ghes had just picked up was nothing that required an expert's attention though; it was telling the Denobulan that Methos's shuttle was beginning its inspection of the civilian ships.
<Tag Wolf & Methos>
Gheskori wondered what the media craft attached to the civilian flotilla would make of the inspections. This kind of task that had been given to the Victory's first officer, was exactly the type that could inflame the passions of the media; voicing their concerns, writing out their thoughts and distributing it. Effectively spreading what the militaristic among the task force might call anti-Starfleet propaganda.
"Commander," Ghes said to the Ops chief next to him, "What do you make of this?" He directed James Matthew's sight to the viewscreen, and then flashed up once again the graphical display of the Kasar mines and weapons platforms. "I can see a way in," Ghes said, "But such a movement for the task force would be dangerous and against our recon orders.
"I just hope that Admiral Cain sees the same sense.. She seems like the type to launch such an attack, are things made easier for her by this pattern? I wonder what she'll have our next move to be."

“Cmdr Matthew walked over to the Helm station.
“ Cmdr Matthew looking over his shoulder Well Commander am not a weapon Specialist but those weapon platform’s are a fleet killer if just one of those monsters is unleash on this taskforce there wont be much left but space dust not even the large Heavy Cruisers cant stand toe to toe for to long.
And forget the Light frigates and support class ships we need to take that thing out before they can turn it on us in a with that thing dint Starfleet intelligent know about theses Planetary weapons before they sent us out here .

She shimmered into existence in the transporter room of the Montgomery, she sighed almost in relief as she stepped off of the Padd onto what she deemed a vessel worthy of Starfleet. She took pride in her ship.. she kept strict discipline and those that couldn’t handle it were transferred off.
She walked out into the corridor where she nodded at the crewmen who walked past. It didn’t take her long to reach the bridge of the Intrepid class vessel. When she did her first Officer Captain Richards stood at attention and said.
“Admiral we received word from the fleet we are detecting a large planetary defence grid.. the fleet wants to know what to do.”
Cain walked around the railing into the command section of the bridge and sat down in the captains chair where she activated the small console next to her chair, she glanced down at the sensor readings of the defence systems. She looked up annoyed
“Who the hell at Starfleet intelligence dropped the ball.. find out their name and have them transferred to Earths Waste management department.”
She looked back down at the schematics of the defense system before she said to herself. “We need to get in there.. the message we received said they needed help.”
She looked up and said. “Open a channel to the Victory.” The view screen activated showing the bridge of the Victory.
“Colonel Wong Choose an away team from your crew… have them sent to the planet in a shuttle craft.. but make sure the shuttle is emitting as low a power signature as possible.. we need to make contact with the sender of the message immediately they could have valuable information on what is going on.”
Cutting the channel she opened one to the entire fleet. “Fleet this is Admiral Cain.. all ships are ordered to keep their distance… if any of those civilian vesels attempt to move closer to planet catch them with a tractor beam… we can’t have a war stared because a journalist is desperate for a story.. if they fight the tractor beam you have orders to fire on them to disable their engines.”

"I agree completely, Commander," Gheskori replied, keeping his eyes fixed facing forward with arms crossed, rising on to his heels and back down in a rhythmic pattern - a suggestion of the Denobulan's constant state of restlessness. "Let us hope that Admiral Cain sees sense not to preempt any move from the Kasan-thar. Or to start an attack of any kind. As long as we're out here, many many kilometres from the closest platform, then we should be out of their range."
Commander Matthew knew all this of course, but Ghes saw no harm in confirming everything that the few crew on the bridge were thinking. Those numbers were few, or rather not so great in quantity of senior officers, because the CO was belowdeck and the XO and Tactical officer were off the ship.
Suddenly the by-now familiar voice of Admiral Cain burst over the bridge speakers and plastered on to the viewscreen. Unprompted. Ghes and the Matthew simultaneously glared at the on duty tactical officer, whom had answered the hail without any sort of report or, to use a word more apt for the situation, alert.
Ghes listened and watched Admiral Cain, whom must have known that Wong would have been patched through for this communication also because she used his name. It shocked the Denobulan somewhat that the fleet commander was already so familiar, when he had only met her once briefly; so far anyway.
Another shuttlecraft... he thought about the potential consequences of this. A shuttle had been employed on the last mission to Jolmar Prime, of course. Gheskori and Tiana had been the ones to go on that, and had been stuck on Prime for the entirety of the rest of the operation. There had been no indication of a resistance at the time he had to think, although there had been some very subtle suggestions and possibilities for one that may be set up in the future. That future may now very well be the past, Ghes realised. This resistance, if it did exist, could be very helpful but he wasn't sure he wanted to go there again; even though last time had been 'fun' it had also been very mentally and physically taxing.
The persistent Admiral had opened a non-visual alert channel as she finished her 'Victory-only' comm. Gheskori looked at Matthew and nodded, gaining permission to contact their craft currently out among the civilian fleet.
"Colonel Methos, Ensign Wolf, this is the Victory. How are your inspections progressing, sir?" he addressed Methos, whom he assumed to be weaving through the fleet in his shuttle. "The main fleet has been informed that it has the freedom to open fire on any of the civilian fleet should they progress towards the inner system. Just to warn you, in case you think some of the civilian commanders might not wish this action; this includes the media vessels."

Wong stood over a conole in the science lab looking at the jamming signals radiation pattern as the central computer filtered the data through and onto the readout. He had never seen anything of its like before, and had no idea where to start in breaking through it. The radiation screen basically turned their sensor readouts over a distance of roughly a few thousand kilometres into static and white noise, completely removing their reconaissance abilities with exception of being able to scan the systems outer perimeter. He shook his head as he scrolled through the information, not even sure how the Kasar were generating the jamming field.
"Alright then" He said turning to Tiana "Let's see if we can isolate the source of the jamming signal. Look for areas of increased background radiation or energy spikes that might indicate a transmitter array. I'm guessing that they would have to be local, and numerous to cover the entire system. Once you've got them, then we can try and cut through them in specific areas"
<TAG Tiana>
=/\=Colonel Wong, this is the bridge. Commander Matthew reports that the emergency triage sickbay is ready for use should we need it.=/\=
=/\=Thank you Commander=/\= Tiberian responded =/\=Keep monitoring the resistance channel and keep me appraised=/\=
Tiberian wandered around the lab, trying a couple of different simulated techniques at neutralising the radiation to no effect. Whilst he mused over more potential possibilities, the sudden appearance of Admiral Cain's voice over the intercom made him jump almost out of his skin.
=/\=Colonel Wong Choose an away team from your crew… have them sent to the planet in a shuttle craft.. but make sure the shuttle is emitting as low a power signature as possible.. we need to make contact with the sender of the message immediately they could have valuable information on what is going on.=/\=
The channel cut before Tiberian could even open his mouth to respond. The woman was truly insane. She had no idea about how to maintain a low profile and was more or less completely violating the fleet's orders. And worse than that, she was risking his crew to do it. Leaving Tiana to solve the problem of the jamming field, he stormed out of the science lab, loudly dictating exactly what he would do to Cain, her advisors, and whichever idiot had put them in charge in four letter words. Within a few minutes he appeared on the bridge and immediately took his seat back from Gheskori.
"Mr Gheskori, open a channel to the Montgomery, priority one" He was seething, his rage only barely kept under control like an attack dog held in check by a chain, one which was wearing particularly thin. The channel opened and Tiberian leaned forward to stare Admrial Cain straight in the eye. He wasn't afraid of her anymore, he had something far more important to be afraid of, what would happen if someone didn't stand up to her.
=/\=Admiral Cain, I have a matter of contention regarding your last order=/\= That might be the understatement of the mission, but he pressed on. =/\=I would like to remind you ma'am that in the report I circulated, the last time we were here my people took a heavily shielded and disguised shuttle into orbit over Jolmar Prime, and it was shot down. I very nearly lost two of the senior staff in the process, and I don't want that to happen again=/\=
<TAG Cain>
=/\=Admiral=/\= Tiberian's patience was fast wearing thin =/\=It's not just the risk to my people that worries me, but the risk of a shuttle being construed as aggressive action if it gets caught. Hell even a probe might be. Ten starships are no match for whatever the Kasar have got in there, and, in my opinion and from the reports of Commanders Gheskori and Galwyn, the likelihood of a genuine resistance movement having sprung up in three weeks seems ludicrous. I am strongly against this course of action=/\=
<TAG Admiral Cain>
=/\=With all respect=/\= Tiberian through all caution to the wind =/\=If you want to send people to martyrdom, then that's fine, but it's not going to be my damn crew. And I'm maintaining transcripts and mission logs of all occurences in order to make my own report to Command upon our return. Good day=/\=
He cut the comm channel before the old battleaxe had time to respond, leaving him on his silent bridge. He didn't want to think of what he had just done to his career, or slightly more importantly, what the Admiral would do know she had her back up. Whatever it was, it wasn't going to be good.
"Ghes, contact Methos and tell him to return to the Vic. Tell him he can bring media representatives with him, and that I'll give them a press conference in Ten Forward in one hour. Hopefully that will smooth the feathers after the threat of being fired upon. I want you there to field any questions on Jolmar and the Paderau themselves that isn't classified, so you'd better get prepared. Commander Matthew, you have the bridge. Keep me notified if anything occurs. I'll be in my ready room"
<TAG Ghes and Matthew>
~About an hour later~
Tiberian was sifting through the joint fleet sensor sweeps, which revealed a significant amount of not very much, when the main lights suddenly dimmed and the emergency lights flashed red. Over the sound of sirens, the warning went out.
"Red alert, all hands to battle stations"
Tiberian raced from his ready room and onto the bridge, taking the chair instinctively.
"What the hell is going on?" he angrily demanded as more officers filtered on to the bridge, taking over the thus far empty consoles.
"Sir, about five minutes ago the Montgomery deployed a shuttlecraft that began to head into the gap in the tactical grid we found" the tactical officer reported. "It had just got into the neutral buffer zone around the system when it was struck my a magneton guided photonic mine. The shuttle is crippled and on fire, but it's drifting into the system. The Admiral called the fleet to red alert to go and get it back"
"Belay that order and stand down to yellow alert" Tiberian called out forcefully, his orders being obeyed. "Helm move us to the head of the formation and block the rest of the fleets immediate path. Commander Matthew, I want you to boost the power and range of the tractor beam using the navigational deflector as an amplifier. Get us a maximum range on our side of the zone and tractor the shuttle back. Oh and tell Ghes to get to Ten Forward and keep those reporters calm"

The first officer and tactical officer of the Victory, both on a shuttle weaving through the flotilla of civilian ships, had reported back to Ghes that it was a nervy time out there. The shuttle had been contacted by civ ship commanders demanding an explanation from Starfleet, or anybody to put it loosely, as to why they had been threatened with Federation phaser fire.
Panic was likely rife among many of those vessels. They were being threatened by ships on their own side, or so they perceived, while they had been under the impression beforehand that those task force vessels would protect them, from the nebulous threat of the Kasar that was out and beyond.
And Gheskori knew it himself; the comm channel in the fleet had burst to life in the fleet.. criss-crossing messages of panic and warning, and some rather nasty messages - some of disbelief - directed towards the hulking Starfleet vessels.. All of which suddenly appeared a lot larger and more threatening than before, hanging at the the forefront of the force; harbingers of doom almost, Ghes fancied. He thought this as the Colonel finished his angry exchange with the Admiral. He was interested to see that the Colonel was taking a stand against Cain, he had debated with others how long that would take, and he was almost delighted to see that Tiberian Wong had finally done it.
Now the Denobulan was ordered to contact Methos again, and tell him that he was ordered to return to the ship. Ghes imagined civilian eyes staring angrily out of their viewports, watching the white, gleaming speck that was the shuttle accelerating back to the collection of Starfleet vessels. "Colonel Methos, this is the Victory," he said into an intership commline, "Colonel Wong has ordered your return to the vessel.. he also requests you bring media representatives of the civilians with you. We need to address any qualms they may have with the threats we have made, as well as answer their doubtlessly many questions."
<Tag Methos>
Ghes excused himself from the helm, allowing a junior officer to take it from him. He had some reading up to do on the Paderau and Jolmar Prime. If those many questions which the media had included information on Jolmar he needed to be ready.. Although it was only three weeks ago, the Denobulan was sure some of the details had already been forgotten, and with Tiana busy on the jamming grid it was up to him.
An hour later he realised the ship had gone to red alert. Before Ghes could get himself organised and make his way to the bridge, the lights turned down to yellow and the siren stopped. A brief but alarming occurrence, then.. he thought, and moved to tap his commbadge. Before he could do so however, he was called himself.
It was Commander Matthew telling him to get to Ten Forward, where the media representatives of the civilian fleet were awaiting Colonel Wong's press conference. Apparently Cain had taken it upon herself to launch a shuttle and it had instantly gone disastrously wrong. Now the civilians would be in a heightened state of panic with the recent red alert that had been precipitated.
Entering ten forward, Ghes's eyes widened instantly. It was packed with worried and agitated looking civilian humanoids; a mad conglomeration of them were haranguing Colonel Methos, demanding answers and acting as they were looking. Methos was stepping back, trying to calm them with raised voice and soothing motion of his hands.
"You brought a solid number of media representatives I see, Colonel," Gheskori all but shouted to Methos as he stepped beside him. Ensign Wolf was there also, pushing the group away from the first and navigation officers. As he did so, the score or so of civilian clothed people seemed to have their attention drawn towards the windows of the place. A gap in the crowd of them parted and the view out the window became visible. A tractor beam, originating from the Victory was intermittently active, searching for something and flickering on and off with obviously increased but unstable power. Renewed voices of panic and confusion rose from within the media people, and Ghes quietly requested of the computer that the viewports be blackened out, which unfortunately did little to the media.. only made them more angry.
"Calm down.." Ghes raised his voice to them, "Please retake your seats that have been allocated, all will be explained by us in due course.." Whether they would listen or not was another matter, Ghes knew.

“Lt, Masterson nodded and turned his attention to the parameters of the Victory sensor settings. And the last sensors reading from the shuttle then taking in the distant of drift that the shuttle could have travel without power and After a few minor adjustments, the raw data input increased, and the computer translated it into a more inclusive optical view point.

Tiana nodded, her thoughts had been running along similar lines but she had no doubt that the captain had no idea how tricky it was going to be to implement. She wasn't about to disillusion him so she set to work.
=/\=Colonel Wong, this is the bridge. Commander Matthew reports that the emergency triage sickbay is ready for use should we need it.=/\= That was Gheskori's voice, Tiana wasn't really listening she was too busy with her research. She winced internally about the thought of emergency triage which would mean some sort of mass casulty situation which would mean battle damage....
"I'm having a tough job isolating the transmitters," Tiana admitted, "I think what they're doing is dispersing the tell-tale signal over a wider area, I think," she added now more talking to herself than her CO that I can correct for the smoothing effect and then revert to isolating the transmitters. Once I've found one it should narrow down the search for the others as in order to maintain a complete blanket as they have done they'd need to have the transmitters fairly close together. Once I've isolated one transmitter's signal it should give me the key I need to either penetrate the jamming or block it." She paused once more. "I'll let you know as soon as I've made any progress, sir".

"Here," Gheskori said, the expression on his face failing to bely the chaotic surroundings he was currently immersed in.
‘Commander you been temporarily reassign by Col. Wong you are now the ship new information officer he wont you to keep our News reporters Guest out of his Hair for as long as you can enjoy Bridge out .
"Doing so, Commander Matthew. As to my enjoyment of the task I will report to you on that later perhaps?" The channel closed and Ghes was relieved, because it allowed him to concentrate full attention on wrestling the latest reporter back to his seat.
He'd been here for ten minutes now, and still there was no sign of the shuttle being recovered, the situation stabilised and therefore somebody - hopefully the Victory's Captain - arriving to begin the press conference in earnest. Colonel Methos had since left for the bridge but had promised to be back at some point, and Ensign Wolf had remained to assist Ghes with these civilian media.
Another ten minutes passed by and two security crewmen had arrived in that time to provide further assistance. Gheskori was providing an explanation of an involved point of Paderau culture, using (admittedly still) slightly patchy knowledge he'd garnered from his time on the surface of Jolmar Prime.
As he was doing so, he registered the lights of Ten Forward dimming ever so slightly. He nodded to Wolf to handle the civilians and moved to the windows.
<Tag Wolf>
He ordered the computer to have one of them undarkened. He could see the tractor beam, stretching out more than it had before, still flickering but just about reaching the bright tumbling speck that was the shuttlecraft. Ghes understood; the bridge/engineering were having power drawn from all over the ship to boost the beam power.
Good.. he thought, hopefully the tractor beam would pull the shuttle back into the safe nest of the fleet, or in the Victory's cargo bay if Wong was feeling particularaly brave in his defiance of Cain and the other ships she seemed to have under control. Once the shuttle was dealt with perhaps they'd see fit to help poor Gheskori out in the mess hall...

Vin had gone over on the shuttle with a team to check out the ships in the area, some of the privateers were not willing to let him board at first until he introduced them to one of his officers a klingon named K'rvn, who generally did not get along with anyone, but got along with Vin just fine.
They managed to find contraband on 3 of the ships, Vin basically told them to either leave or get thrown in the brig, they left but other then those three ships the rest were fine, They were recalled back to the Victory. The return trip was uneventful, Vin had to be prepared for vips on the ship, so he worked on a padd putting together where he wanted security to be to make sure all poiints were protected.
They reached the ship and Vin made his way to the bridge, he gave his report to the exec and left he headed down to security.
"Ok, I want everyplace that is off limits to outsiders protected, we will work like we normally do but armed and noone gets into areas where they do not belong. If you have a problem, contact myself or the bridge immediately, Johnson, K'rvn, with me, we are going to where the Captain will be meeting with the media in ten-forward. I want two at the door I will be close where the captain will be talking." Vin said.
They nodded and they left following Vin theyheaded to ten-forward, Gheskori was already in ten-forward. The media were murmurring amongst themselves, Vin walked over to where Gheskori was.
"Are they behaving themselves?" Vin asked.

"We have the shuttle sir" the officer at tactical reported, relief evident in his voice, and Tiberian, alongside no doubt the entire fleet sagged back in relief and exhaled the breath he had been holding since the tractor beam had been modified and activated.
"Pull them into the shuttlebay, and signal the fleet to stand down to yellow alert"
"Aye sir. Should I dispatch a medical team as well?"
"That'll be hard with half of them quarantined in sickbay, but I take your point. As soon as we're in transporter range, beam the crewman to the emergency station in cargobay one. Disptach Commander Davis to deal with him"
<TAG Commander Davis>
"Well, I'd better go and relieve Gheskori before something unfortunate happens. Commander Matthew the bridge is yours. If Admiral Cain tries to find me, tell her that I'm taking an almighty dump into the warp core, and I'll call her when I've finished the paperwork"
<TAG Commander Matthew>
Tiberian departed the bridge as the crew moved around to shift stations, making space for his orders to be carried out. The turbolift was slow reaching Ten Forward, and Tiberian couldn't complain. The procrastination gave him the opportunity to consider his words to the reporters, how he would justify what he considered to be largely unjustifiable, and how he would excuse the actions of a lunatic with a fully charged set of phaserbanks. He emerged from the turbolift, nodding to the crew who saluted him as they passed by. He entered Ten Forward and the noise was almost deafening as all the reporters immediately surged upwards, recording devices pushed forward at his face, their overlapping questions becoming an indistinct buzzing scream. He forced his way to the head of the room, fighting back the urge to punch and kick his way clear of the crowd, eventually reaching the podium and nodding to Gheskori to step back, relieving him of what had undoubtedly been an onerous duty.
"Ladies, gentlemen and people of indeterminate positions, can I please have your attention"
The noise continued.
"People, can we please come to order, now!"
No change was discernable, and so Tiberian drew his phaser and fired into the ceiling. It was on a low setting, and only scorched the plate, but it was enough to set of the warning alarm, and have the reporters duck and scream themselves to silence.
"Now, ladies and gentlemen, if you want the conference you came for, stay like that! I will answer questions, when I have related the information" He paused briefly and tapped a console, disengaging the alarm and cancelling the security team who were undoubtedly rushing to the doors as he spoke. "I am able to inform you that the people who are inhabiting this system known as the Kasar, a form of silicon life more sophisticated than the Tholians, whose actions precipitated the recent Colonial War. They are known to be particularly aggressive and manipulative, and are fortifying the Jolmar system for reasons unknown. It is also known that due to the destruction of the Crystalline Entity, the Kasar may have overt hostile intentions towards the Federation, although this is not confirmed. In regards to the specifics of this mission, all I can inform you of is that the aim is to gather information on the Kasar for later assessment, and that aggressive action must be avoided. That is why we have been regrettably required to impose these flight restrictions on..."
"So an unarmed media craft might spark a war, but a Starfleet shuttle on an espionage mission wouldn't"
A smartly dressed blonde woman in the second row smiled at him with the teeth of a serpent, her hard grey eyes staring straight at him.
"I can assure you that the shuttle in question was not on any form of espionage mission"
"Oh so you can go into specific details, just not the ones that will make you look bad"
"I never said..." Tiberian was getting confused and flustered.
"You said you couldn't inform us of anything but generic mission parameters, but then broke that rule to deny something that might make you look bad. What else are you hiding?"
"We're Starfleet, we don't hide things"
"Oh, so Starfleet Intelligence publishes all of it's missions publicly"
"For God's sake, this is different"
"How?"
"Now look here, unless you have some real questions to ask, I recommend that you shut up"
"Too close to home for you" she smiled the same intimidating smile again, almost provoking Tiberian into threatening to demonstrate the fleet phaser policy on her before the comm system went off.
=/\=Dr Kapoor to the Captain, please come down to the emergency sickbay immediately, we have a problem=/\=
=/\=This is Wong on my way=/\= He turned to Gheskori, beckoning him over.
"End this and get rid of them, any airlock will do, whether there's a shuttle there or not"
<TAG Gheskori>
=/\=Captain to the bridge, we have the Kasar warship approaching at full impulse, the fleet is being called to red alert=/\=
=/\=This is Wong, take us to red alert, all hands to battle stations, on my way=/\=

OOC: Back post for Vin.
"Are they behaving themselves?"
"As well as can be expected in the time you have been gone," Ghes replied to Vin Wolf. "Better in fact. Let's hope the security officers don't frighten them." They nodded understandingly between each other and simulataneously sighed, both hoping that the Colonel would arrive soon so that things would come to an end for these media's stay.
"End this and get rid of them, any airlock will do, whether there's a shuttle there or not."
Gheskori barely had time to acknowledge the heated command as Tiberian Wong made his way hastily out of the mess hall. The Denobulan turned back to the now raging horde of media/civilian ship commanders. He smiled; despite his wish to be on the bridge and assist in the handling of this threat, he could still look forward to this task with ample enthusiasm.
He got all of their attention by standing on the raised platform that had been set up at one end of the room. For extra measure he clapped his hands loudly several times. "Ok, you will now all be escorted to the shuttle bay and returned to your respective craft. Please follow Ensign Wolf and his security officers and I will personally answer any questions you have on the way there."
Gheskori nodded to Wolf at the back of the room, whom returned the nod and turned to his security, instructing them.
The gathered civilians were extremely disgruntled at the prospect of being thrown back off the ship, to put it mildly, and many of them made that opinion known to Ghes on the way to the shuttlebay. The Denobulan found himself being torn between addressing some very in-depth questions on Jolmaran culture from an anthropologist, and trying to quell the concerns of several media people and other civilians.
"We are almost at the shuttlebay," he was saying, "I promise that once you are on the transport we have set aside, you will feel much better."
"What?" shouted out someone from the back, as they continued to walk. "With a Kasar warship or whatever it's called coming at us on full impulse?"
Ghes paused. "That's a good point," he said, which only served to stir up more angry noise, "But we are relying, in fact we are very sure, that the Kasar will disregard your craft and concentrate on the fleet itself. And there is no.. I said there is no reason to believe that they are planning to take hostile action on us."
He'd had to pause to make himself heard above the angry demands and arguments. He wasn't happy with having to repeat himself or raise his voice. Now the gathering whom had been moving slowly through the ship had come to a complete standstill, not far from the shuttlebay doors but still standing in the middle of a corridor acting like a plug: completely blocking it. The supposed CNO nodded forward to Vin Wolf to get everyone moving again, and then found himself answering a comm.
"Lieutenant Commander Gheskori, this is the bridge. We have gone to red alert as you know; when you are done with the civilians, we could do with you at the helm. The Kasar warship has armed its weaponry."
A giant uproar from the crowd as the security were still trying to coerce them forward nearly drowned out Ghes's reply. "Thank you bridge, thank you very much. I will be there shortly!" he sharply tapped his commbadge to close the channel and then ushered everyone into the shuttlebay.
"There is your shuttle my fellows," he said, quickly pointing at the waiting craft with obvious annoyance and then stomping off to the side to let the group through.
"We're not going anywhere." The crowd parted slowly to reveal the woman who'd just spoke. It was the same one whom had started arguing with Wong in ten forward: the sharp looking reporter.
Gheskori's mood shifted and he smiled as he turned to look at her, still feeling the frustration but also enjoying the potential of a game. "Aren't you indeed?" he asked.
"No. Not while our lives are at risk."
He tapped his commbadge, "Bridge, Gheskori. Sir, we may have a problem. The reporters are refusing to leave the ship, citing fears over their safety what with the warship approaching..."

=/\=This is Wong, take us to red alert, all hands to battle stations, on my way=/\=
Tiana's stomach did a flip-flop as the red alert lights came on. She hit a few buttons transferring her work so far to the bridge. It wasn't quite done but now it seemed that they were past the point of quiet and subtlety. She swallowed hard as she left the lab, downing the remains of her most recent cup of coffee on the way. She made it to the bridge in record time and settled in to her station.
The noise of the siren had been killed on the bridge, the better to allow the bridge crew to concentrate. It didn't stopp sounding in Tiana's mind though, she was worried. She had called up some sensor readings and was playing catch up with the recent events. In her opinion things were not going well. "Bridge, Gheskori. Sir, we may have a problem. The reporters are refusing to leave the ship, citing fears over their safety what with the warship approaching..."
Tiana looked over at her captain. She spoke soto voce knowing that the comm would not pick up her words. "I could transport them aboard a shuttle if you like sir, or any where else for that matter. I spend some time altering the sensor system for the internal transporters they're more sensitive now." She allowed herself a wry smile.

C1C Nawar Cet, FO, USS Montgomery
The shuttle's controls were out and sparking, artificial gravity was fluctuating sending waves of nausea through him. The flickering displays in front of him did not make happy reading. The shuttle had air and radiation leaks either of which was sufficient to kill him but neither had so far done so. The sensors were erratically registering the presence of a starship within transporter range but he had no means of signalling them. He shrugged to himself, this was it. Nawar's vision was blurring at the edges and it was a relief when darkness closed in on him

From the shaking of their small shuttle, Saryn knew something was terribly wrong. Yet, upon asking the pilot, the young officer merely shook his head, his face white in terror, his hands clenched to his console. The Vulcan looked around the compartment, watching his family. Their belongings were, fortunately, safely stored away in cabinets. T'Vin sat stone-faced in her seat, clenching Sodon's hand. The teenager tried hard to hide his fear, but his mother's strong grip didn't help matters much. Savin too sat frozen, unable to hide his fear. Like his father, he possessed the higher ESP, and was capable of performing a mind-meld, however abhorred it may be. Numike was clenched to him, holding on for dear life.
Just as suddenly as the shaking had started, it also stopped. There was a blinding light, and the shuttle came careening bow over stern out of what might've been a wormhole. The pilot worked his console hard, finally stabilising the spiraling craft. "Where are we?" he murmured, looking back at the Vulcan, as if to presume that he would know.
Saryn started forward, feeling nauseous from the spiraling, a deep cut on his forehead from where he had struck one of the seats. He hadn't been strapped in like his family and the pilot as he'd just been on his way back to his seat. He blinked a few times, then studied the readings. "I do not know," he confessed, then blinked again, this time in surprise, as at least ten large vessels doomed up before them. They were a wide variety of shapes, none of which Saryn had ever seen before. Their bows were all facing in the same direction, towards a huge vessel of unknown design. "The stars look familiar, yet the vessels are unknown to me."
The Vulcan looked over his shoulder, surprised to find Savin standing next to him. "Father, are you injured?"
"It is nothing," the older Vulcan replied stoically, waving the young man away, "see to your mother and siblings, while I try to contact one of those vessels." He peered at the screen, absentmindedly wiping the blood from his eyes as he studied the readings. "USS Victory?" he read aloud, as sensors picked up the name on the starship's bow. "Starfleet?" he wondered.
"Shall I hail her?" the pilot asked nervously, "ready phase cannons? Armour plating?" He checked his readings. "Weapons are charged, hull plating is offline. Whatever took us here, wherever we are, it damaged us badly. We have only two hours of life support remaining, though it's draining fast. If you want to hail them doctor, now is the time."
Saryn nodded, his hand already flying over the console, while his other hand rested on his sword. "USS Victory, this is Doctor Saryn aboard shuttlepod One from NX Challenger. Please acknowledge. We are in distress, life support failing, hull plating offline. There are children on board."
Sodon bristled briefly at being called a child, but saw the wisdom in his father's words. Numike was barely aware of was happening. She sat, teeth bared in fear, her fingers clutched on her seat's armrests, pale blue eyes fixed on the ships outside their small pod. She didn't feel Savin's reassuring touch on her arm, didn't hear T'Vin softly speaking to her.
The older Vulcan waited patiently before repeating his call.
