"You have command Mr Gheskori, I'm going to relieve the Admiral"
"Sir," Ghes acknowledged, hoping that the Colonel only meant the 'command' part of it figuratively. He positioned the ship directly between Kasar warship and Starfleet flagship, anticipating that the Montgomery would continue to make its run for the Kasan'thar fortress.
The Denobulan's good hearing picked up on a sigh from the tactical station. He looked around, interested to see what Ensign Wolf's fill-in was concerned about. "Crewman?" he said.
"Nothing immediately important, sir," the man shook his head. "Just reading a lot of phaser fire down there on deck five. All human lifesigns, incidentally, with the exception of one Trill." Gheskori nodded, understanding.
A few minutes later, in a reversal of what was expected, Gheskori read a shift in the Montgomery's heading. They had turned tail, proceeding out of the battlezone, leaving the Victory as a pithy minnow before the dark and silent, lumbering Kasar ship. "Err," he started.
"The Kasar are advancing!" a man at Mission Ops suddenly reported. "They have other ships..."
He was right. On the viewscreen, zoomed in at the request of Gheskori, was a flotilla of small escort vessels, dark and jagged, very much a miniature version of the behemoth of a flagship that was providing a backdrop to the scene.
"I'm reading a build up of energy..." reported tactical, "The small ships are powering weapons."
"Get us out of here, now!" Ghes instructed; simultaneously he shoved back his seat and swung himself out of it. He headed over to the command chair and had no hesitation in planting himself in it. It was slightly odd, he knew, particularly with Commander Matthew on the bridge. But, the Ops officer was, or at least had been, busy with the cracking of the Kasar's sensor blinds. Gheskori gave Matthew a nod, as if excusing himself for his presence in the seat of command.
"Tactical, transmit a message to the rest of the task force telling them to follow suit; we need to make sure they'll follow. Raise shields, too." Gheskori was well accustomed to the Kasar's shooting of the Victory in the rear. It had happened before, they needed to be fully prepared.
They were now at warp, and not soon after they had made the jump did Ensign Wolf enter the bridge. He was closely followed by Colonel Wong himself. "Commander Gheskori," the Captain called. Gheskori joined him at tactical next to Wolf.
"Computer, transfer all command codes to Lieutenant Commander Gheskori, authorisation Wong 64 Theta Proxima"
"Command codes transferred"
"Lieutenant Commander Gheskori, I hereby appoint you as Acting Captain of the USS Victory. Your first duty should be to relieve me of command and place myself and Commander Galwyn under arrest for mutiny"
Blinking quickly and often - a common trait for him in this situation - Gheskori nodded, saying "Yes, sir." Tiberian inhaled a deep breath and turned to Wolf. Gheskori nodded to the CTSO's security, motioning towards Wong and confirming that they should arrest him. "Colonel Wong, Commander Galwyn, as of now you are both under arrest for mutiny against the commander of this task force, Rear Admiral Patrizia Cain. Wolf..." he encouraged the CTSO, "Follow orders and arrest them if you would... Take them to the brig."
<Tag Wolf>
Gheskori solemnly watched as Wolf took Wong and Galwyn (or was that Cet?) into custody. Only after the CTSO's security had led the two falsely offending officers from the bridge did Ghes notice the Vulcan male, with his attending son, present at the side of the bridge. Both were looking quite jaded which they were hardly to be blamed for. Ghes nodded at them, "I know you might be a bit lost right now. The fact is that the Colonel has to have himself arrested, it's the only way he'll protect himself, as well as our science officer, from the Admiral commanding this force. The science officer, incidentally, has the symbiotic lifeform that was once present in the Admiral's now deceased executive officer." Gheskori grinned at both Vulcans, utterly under the assumption that he'd completely reassured them.
<Tag Saryn>
Very soon after this there was a heavy thud at the back of the bridge. Vibrations starting from the rear consoles propagated through all surfaces of the bridge, rattling everyone in their cages of bone. The floor seemed to pitch forward for a second, until the inertial dampeners whirred back into action, kicking in the correct artificial gravity and counteracting the torsion of forces.
"What was that?" Gheskori asked for the report as he stabilised himself on the tactical rail.
"We've been hit by the Kasar," someone reported disbelievingly.
"They're following us?" The Denobulan frowned, looking at Ensign Wolf's display.
"No," the same officer reported again, "I don't understand it... It's like they launched some supralight depth charge at us. Not a torpedo." There was a second pause. "Wait a minute..... uh oh."
One of the rear consoles, not far from Gheskori, suddenly flashed blindingly white. An explosion of quickly extinguished plasma leapt from it, sending the attending officer sprawling on to his back by Ghes's feet. It wasn't a pretty sight, but to Ghes's surprise the man was still alive. His chest was heaving unsteadily, the Acting CO could only hope it didn't stop moving.
He spun to Saryn. "My friend, I hear you have medical experience. Tell me, if I provide you with some basic medical equipment could you attend to this man?"
Gheskori fished under the tactical console, eventually pulling out a medical emergency kit, kept on the bridge for exactly this kind of circumstance. "There you go." He handed it to Saryn. "It's not too much different from what you're used to," he lied, "If you need any help I can call someone up, hmm?" That was the hollowest statement of the day, Ghes thought, the true availability of the medical staff was near zero percent; most if not all were occupied already.
<Tag Saryn>
"Incoming," came a voice. "More 'depth charges'."
"What are they?" Gheskori asked insistently. They appeared to be impossible to track for some reason, phantom devices launched from the deep shade behind them, cracking themselves open like nuts on the shield grids of the task force.
Two heavy thuds resounded around the bridge, slamming the crew forward for a second. "We've got to figure this out. How can they still be hitting us when we're at warp speed, receding from the system?"

OFF: Ghes..don't you mean inertia, rather than inertial?
ON: "I know you might be a bit lost right now. The fact is that the Colonel has to have himself arrested, it's the only way he'll protect himself, as well as our science officer, from the Admiral commanding this force. The science officer, incidentally, has the symbionic lifeform that was once present in the Admiral's now deceased executive officer."
The Vulcan didn't manage to refrain from blinking in surprise. “A what?” he asked, though he already knew his question wasn't going to be answered. He was certain someone would brief him on different species soon enough, as obviously there were more species know now, than back in his own time. His mind was reeling with the overload on information, and he was trying desperately to keep himself under control.
He felt a light touch on his arm and as he looked up, he found Savin intently staring at him. “I am all right,” he answered slowly, “just trying to keep up.”
Savin nodded once. “We will learn,” he promised, “we have no choice, it appears we can no longer go back to our own time. We will have to adjust.”
Together, the two Vulcans watched the scene unfold, and were barely able to keep to their feet when the ship was attacked.
"My friend, I hear you have medical experience. Tell me, if I provide you with some basic medical equipment could you attend to this man?"
“I am a doctor,” Saryn confirmed, “I have sufficient experience to operate medical equipement, presuming that it has not changed too much in two centuries.” He gestured to Savin. “My son may assist me. He too is a qualified medical doctor.”
Gheskori fished under the tactical console, eventually pulling out a medical emergency kit, kept on the bridge for exactly this kind of circumstance. "There you go." He handed it to Saryn. "It's not too much different from what you're used to," he lied, "If you need any help I can call someone up, hmm?"
“I believe the medical staff is already stretched to their limits,” Saryn retorted dryly, “we will simply have to learn quickly, as I have stated before. Now, if you would please give us some room?” He knelt beside the fallen officer, struggling to operate the medical tricorder.
Beside him, Savin kept his eyes on the strange alien who had been addressed as Gheskori. “Would the captain offer us the use of his office?” he requested formally, “then we would have privacy to attend to the patient, while not being publicly embarassed by our lack of present day medical knowledge. The patient is in skilled hands, but we would treat him our way, if we can. In private.”
Saryn glanced up in surprise, then nodded in agreement, before focusing on the male patient again. It was obvious he had second degree burns on his hands, and his face showed similar injuries. The uniform was scorched, but the skin underneath unblemished. “Can you stand?” he asked his patient. “What is your name? I am called Saryn, and my son Savin attends me. I am a doctor. Talk to me sir, it is vital that you keep talking to me. I do not wish for you to lose consciousness, while I tend to your injuries. I am...out of time...and may need assistance. You are Human, correct?”

Vin and his team approached cautiously until he caught sight of the Colonel, the Admiral did not seem to happy about the events. Vin pointed to his men after the Colonel told him to relieve the Admiral and her team of their weapons. Vins men disarmed them quickly.
"Lieutenant Ring, please escort Admiral Cain to vip quarters, her team to the brig." Vin stated.
<Admiral Cain>
They went to the bridge and then the Colonel spoke. "Ensign Wolf, relive me of my weapons and take me and Commander Galwyn into custody. You should confine us to the brig"
Vin stared at the Colonel for a moment then Gheskori spoke. "Colonel Wong, Commander Galwyn, as of now you are both under arrest for mutiny against the commander of this task force, Rear Admiral Patrizia Cain. Wolf..." he encouraged the CTSO, "Follow orders and arrest them if you would... Take them to the brig."
Vin nodded rather unhappily but relieved the Colonel and the Commander of their weapons, he followed them into the lift and spoke. "Brig."
The lift went down, he could tell the Commander wanted to talk to him, what he was not sure, possibly the fact that she was now a joined trill might have something to do with it was a possibility.
"Commander, something on your mind you would like to ask me or talk to me about?" Vin asked.

"Ensign Wolf, relive me of my weapons and take me and Commander Galwyn into custody. You should confine us to the brig" Tiberian gave the order. Tiana found herself smiling this moment had seemed somewhat inevitable since Colonel Wong had stood up to the Admiral for her.
She let the Trill officer take her phaser and walked to the turbolift in a relaxed manner. Maybe it was Tiana's first time in a brig but it wasn't Cet's and if the stories she had heard were true it wasn't Colonel Wong's either. She planned to pass the time by trying to meditate and sort her head out as much as possible. She wasn't going to keep Cet but now it seemed that she would have to at least wait out the court martial, it would save starfleet the bother of trying her(them?) twice.
"Commander, something on your mind you would like to ask me or talk to me about?"
Of all the things she had expected to hear from her arresting officer this didn't even make the list. Her smile broadened somewhat. "I've got ten lifetimes on my mind. Hints on staying myself would be much appreciated."
Tag: Wolf.
Later in her cell Tiana relaxed against a wall, she had had her eyes shut gradually sifting through the memories. She looked across the corridor at Colonel Wong. "Nice to get some peace for a moment although I would have chosen other circumstances."
Tag: Wong
"I wanted to thank you for taking my side. If it wasn't for me you wouldn't be here. Thank you."

“Can you stand?” he asked his patient.
The crewman said nothing, merely took in the sight of the Vulcan's eyes, staring down at him, providing the face of the emotionless mask that was the familiar feature of Saryn's race. Instead the crewman winced in pain, his features contorted by the serious burns suffered at the hands of the overloaded console.
“What is your name? I am called Saryn, and my son Savin attends me. I am a doctor."
"Fletcher, junior operations officer," he told the Vulcan. Meaning to say something else, Fletcher inadvertantly lost the thread of his dialogue preparation in amongst the haze of the pain. His mind began wandering, trying to take his mind of the terrible injury.
"..Talk to me sir, it is vital that you keep talking to me. I do not wish for you to lose consciousness, while I tend to your injuries. I am...out of time...and may need assistance. You are Human, correct?”
"Yes... Human." Fletcher ackowledged, finally able to focus his attention on something definitive. A name was nothing, a species identity provided the Doctor with useful information. He was sure this twenty-second century Vulcan would know how to treat a human being, if he was from the NX-03 Challenger as he claimed. "Tell me something, Doctor. What is it like to serve on an NX class starship?" It was another technique to take his mind off the possible imposing death, if nothing else.
<Saryn>
Ghes now sat in the command chair, and in between the constant thoughts on what to do next, the Denobulan was also wishing that this situation would not persist much longer, the situation being his continued presence in the Victory's seat of command.
Gheskori was surprised that no one had taken the 'command' of the taskforce away from him by now. The Victory had taken charge, and as he was the acting CO he was technically in charge of the fleet. The Denobulan knew it wasn't quite a real title, he was sure there were commanders out there on other ships who must've baulked at hearing that a Lieutenant Commander had taken charge, they would all be following their own ideas and formulating their own plans. Indeed they needed one; the fleet were still being struck by supralight depth charges, launched by the stationary Kasar fleet in the Jolmar system, with no apparent let-up.
Upon Wolf's return to the bridge, Ghes addressed him. "Tactical," he nodded, "See if you can come up with a way to anticipate the incoming weapons, with a view that we could hopefully neutralise them before they get uncomfortably close. I know they come fast, so work with Commander Matthew to coordinate." Ghes nodded over to the Ops chief who should really have been in his place, but was hitherto occupied with scanning the Kasar, and now this new task.
<Tag Ensign Wolf & Cmdr. Matthew>
Gheskori acknowledged and left the two officers to it, heading for the turbolift and, once in it after asking if Doctor Saryn needed anything, ordered for the brig level.
Stepping out he headed immediately for the primary brig, the one containing Admiral Cain. Tiberian Wong and Tiana Galwyn Cet had been confined elsewhere. Ghes eyed the incarcerated Admiral carefully as he approached, wary of her dangerous mood almost as much as if there was a possibility she could get out... to break the encasing forcefield and precipitate all manner of havoc.
"Admiral, I thought you should know, I have assumed command of the Victory. Colonel Wong has been relieved of duty and, temporarily at least, his command." Ghes uttered the 'temporary' part quietly. He saw the steel in Cain's eyes, and for an instant, wished that kind of interminable, vengeful zeal for himself. His race could be so... quaint, sometimes.
Blinking and gathering his senses, Ghes twisted, abruptly nodding to the brig officer. The forcefield dropped and immediately Ghes was producing a PADD from behind his back. He pushed it forward towards Cain, keeping a respectable distance outside the brig's boundary. "A report on the fleet's status," he explained. "We are returning to Assailant, however, our progress is being hindered by some very damaging parting shots from the Kasar. Their attack is... incessant."
<Tag Adm. Cain>
OOC: Working towards some sort of quick conclusion. But I think we can still work some interesting character interchanges on our final way back to Starbase Assailant. Let's do it!

He was sure this twenty-second century Vulcan would know how to treat a human being, if he was from the NX-03 Challenger as he claimed. "Tell me something, Doctor. What is it like to serve on an NX class starship?" It was another technique to take his mind off the possible imposing death, if nothing else.
"Like?" Saryn seemed to ponder on the question for a while. "Sickbay was lonely," he admitted after a long silence, "and I do not know what to compare my service to. I have only served on Challenger. First as acting commanding officer, then as tactical officer and after a severe incident which killed one of her captains, finally as medical doctor. I have never joined Starfleet, I never saw the need. The Vulcan High Command put me in command, when her first captain was called away on a classified mission. That same captain was killed later."
The Vulcan paused, a painful look crossing his face at the memory, guilt colouring his features. "It was my shot that killed him, I regret to admit. I did everything I could to save him, as it was an accident. I had not meant to shoot him, but someone who tried to kill all of us. Somehow, I missed. Regrettably, I could not save his life, he died while I tried."
Pressing down hard on a bleeding injury, Saryn studied his patient. "However, I have also made a few friends. The chief engineer seemed to hate me upon our first meetings, but over time he turned out to be the most trustworthy friend I had. He succeeded Captain Adams as commanding officer of Challenger. His name was Andrew Kirk, and I owe him my life many times over. Although, I also owe a few of my worst nightmares to him. I could tell you stories, you would not believe them to be true."
He kept talking, until finally he felt the patient go limp under his touch. "Fletcher!" he called, slapping the man's cheek. A bridge duty officer stepped in, quickly issuing a few commands and the patient disappeared. "Where is he!" Saryn demanded, grabbing the officer by the front of his uniform.
"Sickbay," the man replied calmly. "And you're needed in the brig. Medical staff is overworked, and you're available."
Savin stepped in, shaking his head at the officer, while disengaging his father's hold on the man. "We shall go where we are needed," he informed him calmly. "Father, let him go. He is only doing what he is trained to do."
Saryn sighed. "Lead us to the brig." He had seen a fair share of holding cells in his life, even spent some time in a few of them.
A few minutes later, the two out-of-time doctors - father and son - stood before the forcefield, marveling at the sheer size of the cells, as well as the forcefield holding the prisoners in. Though, neither knew it was a forcefield, until Savin thought to step up to Wong and examine him. He was forcefully bounced back, lying dazed on the deck for a few seconds.
The officer helped him back to his feet, an apologetic look on his face, then switched off the forcefield to let them in. "Ma'am, sir, are both of you well?" Saryn asked, as Savin turned to examine the science officer. "I have to ask sir, what is the logic of your sacrifice of command? I fail to see why you let yourself and the woman be arrested, when clearly someone else is at fault."
(Wong, Tiana)
Savin held up the tricorder to Tiana, marveling at the spots on her face. "I must apologise," he murmured, turning a darker shade of green, "I have not seen one of your species before. I beg of you, please explain to me what you are."
(Tiana)
ooc: neither savin nor saryn have ever seen Trill before. They do not know about symbiotic species

Vin had followed the Captain and exec to the brig, he stopped the exec before she entered.
"Commander, you will find dealing with the lifetimes of the symbiont at times annoying because you get a lot of information from different points in time, and at the same time you will find yourself following and understanding what its trying to make you understand and see." Vin said.
<Cel>
Vinnie left her to ponder whatnhe had said and headed up to the bridge, the ship was taking quite a beating and the red alert klaxon seemed to sound like a dying targ. He entered the bridge from the lift long enpough to see their guest slap a nurse, Saryn looked like he was going to do it again after the body disappeared via the transporter, Saryn and company went past him and headed to the lift, Vin tapped his commbadge.
=/\= "Ensign Wolf to security, our guests have just left the bridge, wherever you find Dr Saryn and his company stay with him, we need all the medical help we can , I will talk to him when I get the opportunity." Vin said =/\=
Vin went straight to tactical and took the place of the Lieutenant there, who looked terrible but grateful for being relieved. Vin checked the shields, they were down to 60% and dropping with the depth charges. He surveyed the jamming created by the kesar ship and found a weakness in it.
"Commander, I have found a weakness, I need to adjust the phasers or it wont work, if I can have one minute, I can get it set, this is a chance in a million, or as humans call it a shot in the dark." Vin said.
<Ghes>
Vin hurriedly worked with the phasers, tapping the controls until he got the beam to a very tight line, he tapped the fire control and the beam lashed out right at the area between the kesars engines and where its attached to, at first there was nothing until the beam got stronger as his hand flew across the board, then the scoring started to show and the jamming dropped.

"... The Endurance was the first ship to get hit by the Kasar Energy jamming field Her Ship systems have been on and off line since that time .
Ghes cocked his head before replying, "Thank you Commander. The Endurance may proceed." Ghes was on the face of it very sure of himself, but inside somewhat of a mad torrent of whirling hail was razing the inner cavities of his brain. This was so unlikely it was approaching ludicrosity. A Lieutenant Commander in charge of a task force, and a task force under attack at that... which led his flow of thought nicely into Matthew's preceding report.
"Commander," he said to James Matthew just before boarding the turbolift, "Inform the fleet that we have placed Colonel Wong under arrest for mutiny against the Admiral, and that the consequences of his actions will be dealt with in due course. You have the bridge."
<Tag Matthew>
Turning curtly on his heel and allowing the Second officer to pass out of his sight, the Denobulan stepped into the lift. Again, while he appeared nicely in control, the raging storm of uncertainty was asking him the question: why did he place me in command?
The talk with Admiral Cain was brief. However, a few words could speak as much meaning as volumes of books could, and this was certainly among that category. Cain had some interesting if predictable things to say and those things were few, however there was something that made Gheskori pause right on the end of every one of her sentences. His own, too. Conflictory thoughts dashed his mind with different ideas, different avenues he could take with this temporary command. Perhaps an audience with Wong himself would help sort this out, however, Doctor Saryn was currently seeing him in his cell and, after a short moment of indecision, Gheskori chose against that course of action. He paused, starting forward to make a move, stopping again and holding the dark gaze of Cain, before leaving the brig without another word.
He swept back on to the bridge, swinging around the tactical rail and depositing himself in the command chair. Instantly he leant to the side, taking in the armrest's panel display and pressing a few buttons.
"Commander, I have found a weakness, I need to adjust the phasers or it wont work, if I can have one minute, I can get it set, this is a chance in a million, or as humans call it a shot in the dark." Vin said.
As Gheskori took the information in, his mind was instantly launched back into contemplation of the nature of the overall situation. "Viewscreen, aft view," he requested. On the main screen, the visage of black was replaced by the familiar view of false-stars, all rushing away from them and placing themselves precisely in the stellar background - an illusion generated by the geometry of the warp bubble. Eyes glazing over as he tried to penetrate the normality of the view, Ghes checked with both himself and tactical that the 'depth charges' were still impacting among the task force. They were.
Somewhere from back there, he thought as he looked at the viewscreen, those things were being launched. It was clear that dispersing the jamming field would reveal that location and how far away it was. Right now, the charges were simply appearing as apparitions of death, flashing into existence and a tiny fraction of a second later, as the sensors had hardly had time to pick them up, detonating themselves on the shields of the task force. It was time to crack that mysterious coded field, to reveal the devices that were so deceptively hidden within.
"Very well, Mister Wolf, you have a go," Ghes said. "I'll survey from my arm panel here... Commander Matthew, once tactical has decoded the field I want you to get as much as you can as quickly as you can on their defences. We need to know the full extent of their incursion before we completely leave the region, before we go back to Starbase."

"Commander, you will find dealing with the lifetimes of the symbiont at times annoying because you get a lot of information from different points in time, and at the same time you will find yourself following and understanding what its trying to make you understand and see." Tiana puzzled over that comment for a while, she vaugely remembered being told something similar by Caras Ryat her field docent back when she'd wanted to be joined. It had confused her then, it made more sense now that she had many lifetimes worth of memories whirling round in her head.
She settled on the floor with her back to the wall and closed her eyes. Who was Tiana Galwyn? Cet wasn't exactly thrilled with a host of convienence but at least they were alive. She wanted to try out self defence moved that Tiana didn't know but she rationalised that she didn't really have space and even if she did she was likely to injure herself as Tiana's body... no her boody, wasn't acustomed to such things. She would learn.
"I have to ask sir, what is the logic of your sacrifice of command? I fail to see why you let yourself and the woman be arrested, when clearly someone else is at fault." Tiana opened her eyes to see a pair of vulcans outside the forcefield, she smiled at the comment. As far as she was aware there was no logic in it any more than there was logic in the Admiral's insistence that she and the deceased Nawar Cet were the same person. She let her Captain answer them as it was he the comment was specifically addressed to.
Savin held up the tricorder to Tiana, she could feel his eyes tracking the line of spots around her face. "I must apologise," he murmured, turning a darker shade of green, "I have not seen one of your species before. I beg of you, please explain to me what you are."
Tiana did not like being an object of scrutiny particularly at the moment but she had nothing better to do so she did her best to explain.
"I'm Trill. Specifically I am a joined Trill somewhere around one in a thousand Trill are joined it is usually a great honour. As you can see there are two sets of brain activity in one body, symbiont and host. Tiana and Cet. I'm 28 while Cet is over 500." She paused unsure of what more to say. Then carried on, it felt good to talk.
"I underwent my joining to Cet very recently and it was unplanned and under rather difficult circumstances. You may as well ask what ever questions you want although I'm not an expert on the medical side of things"

"Good work, Ensign Wolf and Commander Matthew," Ghes called over the renewed sound of alarms. He imagined what Wong would be thinking down in the brig. Alarms going off, they were not out of the thick of it by far. The 'depth charges' had taken their toll and it now seemed that a section of the Kasar fleet had advanced. Somehow the sensor jamming technology was still in place, Ensign Wolf's phasers only working (but working extremely well) on the local Kasar vessels. But Commander Matthew's work in dropping the field with his tetryon particle technique was working.
They now had ghosty images of the lead Kasar vessels; there weren't many of them, but they didn't need many... for their torpedoes were starting to wreak havoc among the most obvious targets.
Unfortunately the Victory became the next target as Commander Matthew's voice supplied the necessary information, "The Lead Kasar ship is now Targeting us "Incoming Torpedo!"
"Hard to starboard!" Ghes commanded, leaning forward in his seat and trying not to fidget - it was very difficult for him to supply his full attention and avoid fidgeting, even in extreme stressful situations like this.
He made sure the orders were received and acted upon, then braced himself as he felt the Victory shift down and right in its warp speed path. The torsional stresses that such a manoeuvre induced were extremely dangerous to the integrity of the vessel, but Ghes had no choice... the alternative may well have been worse.
As it was, the damage was still rather extensive. Cries of a hull breach on one of the cargo bay decks made Ghes jump. If that was near to the triage facility then there were things afoot too terrible to speak of. "Commander Matthew, intensify the tetryon pulses from the deflector, we need a good idea of what is out there. Also, when you are done, I would like for you to help secure the cargo bay that's just breached. I appreciate that you are of higher rank than me, so if you wish to order me to do that instead, I will do so happily. Wong put me in charge but you are technically the second officer."
<Tag Cmdr. Matthew>
"We should drop from warp, sir," the helm officer spoke after the shaky and gut-wrenching manoeuvre was complete; it seemed he was begging for no more warp, more than anything.
"Hmmm? No." Ghes stated in reply, "I don't want to be putting us at the mercy of their fleet. We'll wait until they destroy our warp capability first. Mister Wolf," he addressed the CTSO, "Could you modify your phasers to do anything more to that fleet, anything that will give us an edge to escape, something to slow them down perhaps? And we don't want them to adapt to it, it seems that the further we scan the more our sensor resolution breaks down, I believe that's them adapting from the middle of their fleet outwards."
<Tag Wolf>
Gheskori stood, not being able to tolerate the Captain's chair any longer but not retaking the helm console for himself. He tapped his commbadge, realising something that may have been of importance. "Gheskori to sickbay, what is the location of the Vulcan Saryn?"
"He was heading to the brig to see Colonel Wong and Commander Galwyn," an on-edge voice replied.
"Ensign Huws, this is Commander Gheskori," the Acting Captain called the brig officer upon retapping his badge "Ensign, please tell Doctor Saryn to check on Admiral Cain once he is done there. Also give him a commbadge."

"I fear I do not understand," the younger Vulcan responded, while the older seemed to refocus on Wong, giving them the opportunity to talk uninterrupted. "Why is only one in a thousand joined?"
Savin bowed his head, avoiding her gaze. "Please for give my ignorance ma'am. I am out of time and have a lot to learn." He studied the readings as he was told, and indeed noticed two sets of brainwave patterns. "Does it converse with you?" he continued, "can you converse with it in turn? Are you two one being, or are you still your own person."
He looked up. "Am I addressing the woman Tiana, or the symbiont Cet?" he asked boldly, knowing it was quite likely the wrong question to ask a woman. And since she was his age, it was even more embarassing, to him.
Without awaiting his answer, he continued. "How did your joining occur and why was it unplanned? Did you not plan to be joined? I was given the impression that everyone wants to be joined but not everyone can be...was my assumption in error?"
He held up his hand in apology. "If it is not too much to ask of you ma'am, would you mind speaking up and in my direction?" Genuine embarassment coloured his cheeks, despite his Vulcan heritage. "I am deaf."
(tiana)
Ensign Huws nodded and stepped up to the older Vulcan. "Sir, you are needed on the bridge." He held out a gold-metallic object to him. "Attach this to your tunic, you may use it to converse and localise. it is also a means to keep track of your whereabouts, as well as anyone on the ship."
Saryn regarded the object and affixed it to his robe. "What is this?"
"A communicator sir, much smaller than the type you are used to. I will equip your son?" - Here Saryn nodded once - "With one too. Please report back to the bridge. Do not stray or security will be sent after you."
"Affirmative," Saryn replied and briefly touched Savin on the shoulder to gain his attention. "I will be on the bridge. Please stay here and keep the girl company," he signed to him.
Savin nodded once. "He asked me to keep you company," he translated, "if you desire it. Perhaps you could tell me more of this time? And of yourself? And you may ask me any question you please, and I shall answer insofar possible. You have my word."
(Tiana)
Knowing his son would be occupied for a while, Saryn returned to the bridge. "You desired my presence?" he enquired of Gheskori.

Commander Matthew was a good officer, Gheskori realised. What the COO was saying was exactly right, and Ghes did not have any right to doubt Colonel's Wong judgement in the matter. It took a fine officer to turn down the offering of unofficial command, even if that officer was of higher seniority and importantly, higher rank.
"Then pass along the report in good time, Commander," Gheskori grinned at him. "After that continue with the tetryon pulses."
<Tag Cmdr. Matthew>
They were on course and time for escaping the danger zone, based on all relevant data about the current position and disposition of the two 'fleets' of ships. Gheskori made sure all the bridge crew knew their duty, and then made it clear that all would be fine. But, he did need Ensign Wolf to look for a way to slow the few pursuing Kasar ships down, just to be sure.
<Tag Vin Wolf>
Matthew's report came through on the status of most of the ships in the force. The stand-out news was the nonfunctional warp drives of the LaSalle and the Leeds. That and the fact that the Montgomery was now cooperating with the Victory, allowing them to send some damage teams over. The news was bittersweet - to have the flagship on side was a big plus point, even if their Commanding Officer was still in the Nebula class vessel's main brig.
Ghes had an image of the fleet put on the screen - it came up, displaying a view that contained most of the task force's ships. He knew the Kasar ships were still in pursuit, they were like a feline animal, chasing unwanted guests of their territory, making sure that they departed without the occurrence of anything else untoward. Of course, two of the unwanted guests were missing, the LaSalle and the Leeds had been left behind.
"Communicate to the LaSalle that they are on their own for now, if they need any pointers for repairing their drive then Lieutenant Mattheson can be made available to them by subspace," Ghes ordered. "As for the Leeds, most of their crew have been transferred off, let's just hope they can find a safe harbour for now..." He sighed, feeling depressed at this turn of events. The Victory and co. were at high warp speed, they could not stop now.
Luckily Doctor Saryn arrived on the bridge, occupying his attention again. He stood in surprise.
"You desired my presence?" the Vulcan asked.
"No, not really," Gheskori quipped, but really he was serious. "I asked for Ensign Huws to send you to check on Admiral Cain. I may have to reprimand him for passing on incorrect information."
"Oh well, you're here now," Gheskori swallowed, realising he'd been holding his breath for prolonged periods. He stepped around the Vulcan, curiously taking in his garb. This Vulcan was fascinating, so much history to the man, in more ways than one too. But to stay on task... he spoke once more, "I would like you to check on the Admiral. However, I think this is as good a time as any to speak my mind. How would you like to officially join our crew here on the Victory? Assuming of course that we get back to Assailant and, once there, can confirm your appointment in a role on our vessel with the brass."

"I fear I do not understand," the younger Vulcan responded, while the older seemed to refocus on Wong, giving them the opportunity to talk uninterrupted. "Why is only one in a thousand joined?" That question my Tiana give a slight smile. "Although the symbionts are long lived there simply aren't that many of them. It is usually a honour to be chosen for joining."
Savin lowered his head, if he hadn't been Vulcan, Tiana would have said that he was showing embarrassment. "Please forgive my ignorance ma'am. I am out of time and have a lot to learn." He studied the readings as he was told, and indeed noticed two sets of brainwave patterns. "Does it converse with you?" he continued, "can you converse with it in turn? Are you two one being, or are you still your own person."
Tiana did smile, "And now we hit the tricky part of the explainations. I have access to the memories of Cet's previous hosts but talk is probably not the right word for what we do. I'm not entirely sure there is a right word. We communicate by thought, you could think of me, us, as linked computers. I apologise for the pronouns but they don't translate."
The Vulcan looked up. "Am I addressing the woman Tiana, or the symbiont Cet?" he asked boldly, Tiana was nearly sure that he was embarrassed. He continued. "How did your joining occur and why was it unplanned? Did you not plan to be joined? I was given the impression that everyone wants to be joined but not every one can be...was my assumption in error?" For all intents and purposes we are now one being, if Cet was removed from me without very specific drugs and operating procedure I would die, even with them my survival is not completely guarenteed." She paused with a slight shiver as memories of her brother washed over her. It was surprising her that it was helping to talk but the inside of her head was a crowded place at the moment. It was nice to have her "I'm not the person I was, I'm Tiana but all the memories I hold are changing my reactions." She sighed, "Before I signed up to Starfleet was going to be joined but then my brother died and I decided to leave home and find out who I was. Cet was hurt, the previous host died Cet would have died too without being joined to a new host. I was the only unjoined Trill available..." He words trailed off and her head slumped. Tiana did not want to remember that fraught time between her finding out Cet was injured and undergoing surgery.
He held up his hand in apology. "If it is not too much to ask of you ma'am, would you mind speaking up and in my direction?" Genuine embarassment coloured his cheeks, despite his Vulcan heritage. "I am deaf." Tiana looked up.
"It's not a problem, I'm sorry." She repeated her previous statement making sure that she stayed looking up so he could lipread.
There was a flurry of activity outside the cell, the older Vulcan (Saryn if Tiana's memory was functioning correctly) left, telling his son (Savin if ditto) something in some form of sign language before he did so.
"He asked me to keep you company," Savin translated, "if you desire it. Perhaps you could tell me more of this time? And of yourself? And you may ask me any question you please, and I shall answer insofar possible. You have my word."
Tiana smiled and tried to put him at ease. " Whatever you would like to know." She shrugged guesturing the holding cell around her. "I'm not going anywhere. I heard you were from the NX-Class Challenger. Serana Cet was alive in that time but never saw any of them in service. I'd love to hear about her."

Cain peered out of the window of the VIP quarters the fool Wong had locked her in, she perhaps to the surprise of the guards watching her every move was smiling. She turned and looked at them and said. “Take me to the bridge.”
The guard for his part shook his head. “sorry Admiral we have orders to keep you here.”
She sighed and said. “Well at least bring me some food.. the replicator is offline.”
The two men looked at each other and one nodded before turning for the door, apparently they both thought a woman in her late seventies was a very little threat to a man in the prime of his life.
With only one guard left Patrizia grinned before sitting on the couch and staring at him intently, her gaze spooked him she could tell.. and within a few seconds the mistake she knew he would make was made. He turned his head to avoid her gaze.
Like a flash defying her age she was atop of him, within moments he was out cold and Cain was free as a bird.
Checking he was breathing before she left Cain straightened her jacket.
She left the quarters and made way for the bridge. She could tell things were coming to a close nobody seemed as scared anymore.
She stepped onto the bridge and said. “Commander a field promotion I see.” She looked the Denobulan over before motioning for the ready room. “Join me.”
Once both were inside she sat behind the desk a unspoken signal she felt firmly she was in charge. “Mr. Gheskori.. When we return to base you will have your Commanding officer and Science officer released.. they have played their part.”
Noticing the look now on his face. “Confused? No doubt.. have you read my file Commander.. a war veteran a tactical master.. why would Starfleet send me on a mission of peace?... We have known that the Kasar are a big threat and felt that a firm hand was needed.”
She stood and motioned her hand to the chair behind the desk for him to sit in. “Starfleet wanted the Kasar to know that we are not all a bunch of lily livered pacifists.. and now you no doubt wonder what this has to do with Wong?.. The moment I met him I knew I had my patsy.. I needed an officer that would be idealistic and have the fortitude to lock me away.. I needed to be stopped without looking like I backed down.. do you think I would have beamed over here with only five men if I intended to take the ship.. I just needed it to look that way to the Kasar.. Cet of course was a bad situation I used to my advantage, the catalyst if you will.”
She turned her back and looked out the window. “We now have sensor readings of Kasar defences and they know the type of person Starfleet could send to wipe the smug smile of their faces.”
She sighed as she turned back to face him. “Unfortunately I couldn’t let anybody know my motives lest they not do their parts properly and the Kasar see through it.. not even anybody in my own crew let alone yours.. all that has happened on this mission is to be classified.. for all your crew will now this was all real as for your Captain escaping court martial.. tell them I was ordered by higher ups to drop it… but don’t think for a moment I am pleased with this ship or it’s crew.. undisciplined sloppy training.. and security measures that would make a Ferengi ship look elite”

Vin's fingers flew across the board and slowly the Kasar's mainships shields were slowly starting to diminish, then he set loose a savo of quantum torpedoes setting off explosions, the kasars shields failed and it started falling back.
"Commander, they are falling back, the main ships shields are gone and they have suffered serious damage to their systems, We can jump to warp now." Vin said.
<Ghes Matthew>
Vin was going over damage reports as and putting his report together when he notice the Commander disappear into the ready room, he was not alone but Vin did not see who was with him then his commbadge chirped.
=/\= "Lieutenant Childs to Ensign Wolf, we have asecurity problem, Admiral Cain has ecaped, I left to go get food for the Admiral, when I returned my partner was on the floor, hes ok but the Admiral is gone." He said. =/\=
=/\= "Lieutenant, I think I know where she is, have two men meet me up here on the double, come armed." Vin said.=/\=
Vin reached under his console and removed his phaser and headed to the Captain's office, he tapped his override control and entered pointing his phaser at the Admiral.
"Admiral, you were supposed to remain in your quarters, now you give me no choice but to throw you in the brig." Vin said.

She turned when someone entered the room she would have found his statement amusing if it wasn’t so annoying. She looked him over before straightening her shoulders and walking closer to him.
“Ensign is it… unless it escaped your no doubt punch drunk mind.. your speaking to a flag officer of the fleet.. notice the gold trim on my uniform something that is far out of your reach to be assured.. point being you are required to come to attention and end your sentences in Ma’am.”
She took a step closer so the phaser he was holding was barely a centimetre from her body. “And if you knew who I was you would have brought more men and a bigger gun.”
She turned around and walked to a couch in the office. Sitting down she took a breath and said. “and love as I would to go to the brig.. I have business.. which you are interrupting.. So unless you wish the rest of your no doubt insignificant career spent in a dilithuim mine.. you will leave NOW!”
She turned to Gheskori and said. “For his sake call him off.”

Vin narrowed his eyes at the admiral who took a seat on the couch like nothing had happened. The doors behind him opened and two armed guards joined him.
"You were saying admiral, I would like to point out to you under regulations that when a flag officer is under arrest he or she must remain where they are and assaulting a security officer is not regulation either, so either tell me whats going on around here or I will throw you in the brig, you can do what you wish, threats do not bother me. Plus when it comes to the safety of this ship and crew that falls under security as well, now I'm not so hard headed to figure out something is going on, if I were to take a good guess, I would say that this was all a ploy or a game played against the Kasar, if it is fine, I can keep a secret like anyone else and what is said here stays here ma'am." Vin said lowering his phaser.
<Admiral>
Vin had a feeling this was what she was upto so the whole arrest her and the Captain was nothing more then just a game, the Kasar had been stopped for now but for how long was the question.
"Admiral, I do appologise for my actions but not knowing the entire story I went on the fact that you have been arrested, I was under orders and now I know the entire story, as I said this stays here and will not be repeated, I know sometimes its better to keep intel to oneself because all it takes is one person to mess the whole thing up." Vin said.
<Admiral>
Vin put his phaser on the holster and gave both his men stern looks, they nodded in agreement and left. "By the way, I managed to thwart the Kasar, I found several weaknesses in their shielding, if the Admiral would like my report on the what I found it will be in your hands in one hour less if I get to it right away." Vin said giving the Admiral a small smile.

"Commander, they are falling back, the main ships shields are gone and they have suffered serious damage to their systems..
"Well done and thank you, Mr Wolf..." Ghes slumped back in the command chair, releasing the breath he'd been holding and breathing a very large sigh of relief. It was over at last, or so he hoped. No, it should be over, the Kasar were retreating back and weren't showing any signs of continuing their pursuit. Now they just had to make it back to Assailant.
"Five hours to Assailant at warp seven," the helmsman confirmed. Ghes nodded... They would soon be home. "Commander Matthew, see to it that the other task force ships' needs are attended to. And give me an update on the Leeds and LaSalle as soon as is possible. Let us hope they found safe port somewhere, hmm?"
<Tag Cmdr. Matthew>
Many minutes went by, Ghes now almost relaxing in his seat. Ensign Wolf left the bridge for a short time; while Ghes knew he wouldn't be, he would not have blamed Wolf for taking a break.
"Commander a field promotion I see."
Ghes was shocked out of his thoughts by the voice. Initially he expected it to have been his imagination, the voices one heard on occasion during a period of tiredness. He hadn't slept this week so far, and while for a Denobulan that was fairly normal, it did mean he was due some rest. He looked back at the turbolift and saw who was standing there... Yes, he'd definitely need it after this.
"Join me," Cain said before Ghes could make any kind of response to her previous words. The Denobulan pursed his lips... he'd wait 'til they were beyond the ready room door.
Ghes sat at the desk in the ready room, rightfully given up by Cain, looking and feeling thoroughly bemused. He had thus far kept a relative silence, allowing Cain to reveal these bizarre truths. That the Admiral had not been telling the whole truth did not fit well with her piece in the jigsaw, the whole of which Gheskori had gradually been shaping over the course of this mission.
Appearing unaffected, but really being nonplussed at Cain's hard statements, Gheskori watched her as she stood with her back turned, peering out of the observation window. He allowed her to see his reflection in the portal's glass; for a Denobulan, he was unusually silent.
"... don’t think for a moment I am pleased with this ship or it’s crew.. undisciplined sloppy training.. and security measures that would make a Ferengi ship look elite” Cain glared at him.
"That isn't called for, sir," Ghes said calmly. "Assuming you are telling the truth, considering everything that you've put us through, I don't see the logic in keeping this from Colonel Wong. He is my commanding officer and, as he will not actually face a court martial -"
"Admiral, you were supposed to remain in your quarters, now you give me no choice but to throw you in the brig." It was Ensign Wolf.
Cain started berating him almost instantly and then asked Gheskori to dismiss him. It was already too late. Ghes smiled, just managing to keep the grin from his face. Vin Wolf was proving himself to be a highly competent security chief, so competent that he had discovered Cain's cover-up 'game' through mere speculation, the reaction to which immediately confirmed for him his suspicions.
"Thank you, Ensign," Gheskori did eventually dismiss him, reasserting his authority in the face of the Admiral, "And total silence regarding this issue, Ensign..." he added as Vin stepped through the doorway.
Of course, Cain was correct. Ghes knew what he had to do, and that was to keep this as quiet as possible. Classified meant classified, if Starfleet wanted to keep it like that Gheskori wasn't going to break it, despite the reservations he held over the latently revealed nature of the mission just completed.
He stood from behind the ready room's desk, picking up a loose cookie that happened to be on its surface, "Ok, Admiral, as I am still the Acting Captain of the Victory, I will need to check this with higher authorities. If there is someone I can safely contact then I would like to be provided with the means to speak to them. Also, before you leave," Ghes added quickly, seeing that Cain was heading for the exit, "Ensign Wolf was correct. By breaking your confinement you have broken a major regulation pertaining to flag officers. Therefore I would appreciate it if you would return to your VIP quarters. Have Wolf's security escort you." He grinned as he popped another piece of cookie in his mouth, then retook the seat.

Savin smiled and took a seat on the cot inside the cell. "This could take a while," he warned gently. "I am not really of NX Challenger, but I was about to start an internship aboard her, in sickbay. While I have my medical degree, I have yet to specialise, however I am considering xenobiology. At any rate, my father first came aboard her as acting commanding officer, having been assigned by the Vulcan High Command. He was assigned because the captain had gone missing and it was a delecate mission involving Andorians. In my time, Vulcans and Andorians were still fairly antagonistic. I do not know the relation between our people in your time, or the relation with any people."
He paused, shifting a little so he was better facing her. His robe fell to the side, revealing the empty sheath that normally held a gleaming silver sword. "When the mission was successfully concluded, with Captain Adams coming aboard and with the aid of the Enterprise...at least I believe Enterprise was there but I am not certain...father was seriously injured while trying to save lives. Afterward, he remained aboard as chief of security, though pertaining his civillian status. He never joined starfleet, you see."
(tiana any comments?)
Savin stared at the woman, trying to remember what he was telling. "Ah yes," he continued, remembering, "There was an incident in Earth's past, in 1987, when the senior staff chased down a time traveler. Father was affected by the time-shift, and shot several people. When trying to shoot the timetraveler, something went wrong and he shot the captain instead. He tried to save the captain's life, but it was too late. Next they knew, they were back on Challenger's bridge. Father was eventually found innocent of murder, as it had been a fatal accident. You see, Captain Adams was located nowhere near father. In fact, history has it that Adams was standing behind my father. In any event, this caused father to reconsider his options, as obviously weapons were not something he was comfortable with, nor was anyone around him safe if he had any weapon."
Again he paused, stroking the sheath absentmindedly. "So he decided to put his medical degree to good use and transferred to the position of chief medical officer. He has served with distinction since. While stranded for five months on a hostile planet, father survived by living with a subdued culture we now know as white-skinned vampires. You may have noticed my sister looks different; father adopted her while marooned there. He learned to survive and grow his own food as he could not eat what they ate. Like myself, father is severely lactose intolerant, and allergic to wheat. To defend himself against the enemy, and the Romulans, the men in the tribe taught him how to use a sword, and he has become quite expert at it. Father is now teaching me. My sword, while not here with me now, is a replica of his, balanced for my posture and technique. His blade is flaming red, almost as if it is indeed aflame when the light reflects off the blade. Again, like myself, father is left-handed, so the blades are thus balanced as well."
Now, the young man looked almost flustered. "I am not nearly as good as he is, and I have a great deal to learn still. I do hope, though hope is an emotion, that perhaps we get the opportunity to remain here. I do not see how we could return to our own time, with what we know now." He looked up to meet her eyes. "If you have questions, I shall endeavour to answer them."

"No, not really," Gheskori quipped, but really he was serious. "I asked for Ensign Huws to send you to check on Admiral Cain. I may have to reprimand him for passing on incorrect information."
"Please, do not reprimand your officer for misunderstanding his orders. I interpreted them as having to come here, a summons, if you please. I am not starfleet, and am not familiar with the finer points of a command structure. I am but a medical doctor." The older Vulcan offered a humble bow, though keeping his eyes on the officer before him, waiting for him to continue.
"I will check on her as soon as possible sir," the Vulcan replied calmly, "as for joining your crew, I shall be...what did Humans call it? Delighted? However, you must remember we are out of time, and my family would, for now, remain with me. We would require quarters, though my son may desire to have a room for himself. I do not believe he would object to sharing quarters with a MACO, or even a non-commissioned officer. I would indeed recommend leaving the final decision to the brass, as you say. However, I do require a more..definite description of my role aboard. Would I be a medical doctor? And what of my son, is there a place as an intern for him here?"
Saryn waited for Gheskori to respond, then turned and left the bridge. First, he needed to check on his mate and other children but after that he would seek out the admiral.
[Somewhere, at Cain's location] (apologies I don't exactly know where she is....please presume it is after she spoke with Gheskori)
"Admiral Cain, I desire to have a word with you, please. I am sent to examine you, though I have to admit that I do not know what I might be looking for. I presume you are in good health but as per the commander's orders, I am required to perform a routine medical check. It would be desirable if you co-operated with me ma'am."
The Vulcan doctor straightened. "My name is Saryn and I am the chief medical officer aboard NX Challenger. Me and my family were recovered from a damaged shuttlecraft. I do not know how much time has passed since our rescue, however I am here with orders to examine you. If you would be so kind?"

“Admiral Richardson.. Starfleet intelligence.. though I wouldn’t ask to many questions of him if I were you.” She looked away from Gheskori and to the now more annoying Ensign Wolf.
“On the record Ensign.. I have no idea what you are talking about.. and am shocked you would think Starfleet Admirals so underhandedly cunning.. Off the record I have no idea what you are talking about.”
as Gheskori informed her it would be best she returned to her quarters she gave a small nod. “I go were I wish Commander.. you this ship and it’s crew are still under my direct command and I will not tolerate being told where I can and can’t go as you can imagine I don’t get restricted from places often.”
She walked over slowly and grabbed the rest of the cookie out of his hand, looking at it with disdain she remarked. “An unhealthy officer is useless in a fight.” Throwing the cookie like a frisbee into the replicator she looked up and said. “You will contact the Montgomery.. tell them I wish them to turn around and pick me up.. I have no wish to remain here much longer.. until then I will make use of your observation lounge I have preliminary scans to look over.’
She turned and walked past Wolf and his men giving no indication she was at all afraid or worried about being escorted by force anywhere.. A temporary commander of a ship would be foolish to try it with an Admiral… let alone one of her stature.
She walked into the observation lounge followed by two security men.. she waved them out but for a second they didn’t move. ‘the material I am looking at is highly classified one glance would land you in a penal colony.. your choice.”
They left her to work alone.. at least until a Vulcan walked in.. Patrizia had always liked working with Vulcans they followed orders well and rarely with argument. After a brief introduction she discovered he was from the past to this she raised her eyebrows.
“Doctor they sent you to examine me despite the fact your training is out of date?.. with no offence Doctor isn’t that a little illogical to attempt.. our equipment for starters is well beyond your understanding to be sure, and the technology you would have had with you is to be honest of little use.”
She sighed as she shook her head. “Never the less Doctor you have your orders scan away… but make it quick I am short on time.. oh and don’t mind the implant in my spine.. I broke my back twenty years ago the technology would take to long to explain.”
