“Doctor they sent you to examine me despite the fact your training is out of date?.. with no offence Doctor isn’t that a little illogical to attempt.. our equipment for starters is well beyond your understanding to be sure, and the technology you would have had with you is to be honest of little use.”
"I have a valid medical degree ma'am," Saryn countered, "and your tricorder functions little different from what I am used to." He straightened, casting her an almost defiant stare. "I am Vulcan," he added, unnecessarily, "I do not take offense, when none is given."
“Never the less Doctor you have your orders scan away… but make it quick I am short on time.. oh and don’t mind the implant in my spine.. I broke my back twenty years ago the technology would take to long to explain.”
"Implant ma'am?" The Vulcan flipped open the tricorder, taking only a moment to assess its settings. "Please hold still ma'am, I know even these devices may be sensitive. I am certain Starfleet did not change sensitivity of medical equipment in the face of two hundred years."
Quietly, he walked around the admiral, waving the tricorder up and down her body. "If I may admiral, I do not understand why I am sent to assess you. Would a counselor not be more...prudent? I also do not understand why Colonel Wong and Miss Cet were arrested. I realise that I and my family arrived in the middle of a warzone, even though that was beyond our intentions, however no-one stopped to explain anything to us."
He paused, snapping the tricorder shut. "Commander Gheskori asked me to remain aboard as chief medical officer, however I do feel the need to point out that you are correct in assuming my medical knowledge is out of date. I will need study material, and a counselor's guidance to settle in this time. Many things may be entirely new to us and frankly, I am embarassed to admit that we are overwhelmed. My wife and other children remain asleep in sickbay, however my son and I admit to these feelings."
Saryn looked her squarely in the eyes. "I find no evidence of you being insane ma'am," he finally reported, "you appear to be in good physical and mental health, however I do not claim to have the expertise of a counselor. I refer you to a counselor for mental assessment, however in my personal opinion you are.." He arched an eyebrow. "What do Humans say? Fit as a fiddle?" He shook his head. "How one can be compared to a bird, or a musical instrument, is quite beyond me." He offered a small hint of a smile. "You are cleared for duty ma'am, in my professional assessment."

OOC: Slight back post first.
"... However, I do require a more..definite description of my role aboard. Would I be a medical doctor? And what of my son, is there a place as an intern for him here?"
"Again, I will speak with the brass." Ghes smiled, looking to reassure the Vulcan of his concerns, "I'm sure we can tease that one out of them fairly simply though. You are a man of logic, therefore you must see that you and your family are somewhat of a special case right now. I'm not saying that you are to be fired off to some historians' department, but we need to follow a protocol here before your assignment can be confirmed. This will all be dealt with upon our return to base, in..."
"Four hours, seven minutes," the helmsman piped up.
"OK?" Ghes asked Saryn.
Gheskori appeared as if he was feigning being caught offguard, but he was genuninely surprised that Cain physically took the cookie away from the Denobulan's opening mouth. He was like a youngster being deprived of an uncommon treat, by its mother. What a terrible thought, he mused, a look of discomfort now squarely fixed on his features. Dusting his hands of the cookie crumbs he did at last take the ready room seat.
There was never much of a chance of getting Cain to do what he wanted, Ghes now realised (although at the time he had believed it would've been fine). In fact, if he had told Cain that she could do what she wanted, then Ghes had an irrational feeling that she would have made a point of returning to her quarters. She was a woman not to be denied, Ghes thought, watching with an odd interest as the Admiral left what was temporarily his ready room. Speaking of which... He needed to give this seat up soon. If things went as the Admiral had told him - that many of the events of the past mission had been engineered by Cain herself - then both Wong and Galwyn would be back on active duty very soon.
Ghes tilted his head: coming back on duty, after their self-imposed incarceration in the brig.
Letting out the Denobulan equivalent of a sigh - something that sounded a good deal more happy and quirky than the human equivalent - Gheskori rotated in his chair to face the portable communication screen.
"Computer," he said, "Open a channel to the USS Montgomery's second officer. There are some arrangements I need to make with him."
Another equivalent of a frown settled on Ghes's features, as he tried to deduce the reason why he'd needed to tell the computer what his plans were for the Montgomery's second officer. As if by design the appropriate man's face appeared on his screen.
"Oh it's you." The man stated. "What can I do for you... sir?" Gheskori did not fail to notice the inflection the man put on 'sir'.
"Commander Robinson," Ghes nodded, "Commander Gheskori here. You will be pleased to hear that the Admiral has been released, and she wishes to return to her vessel. We'll make arrangements for a quick warp drop-out so we can perform the beam over." He paused to smile, "I do not know about you, but personally I don't think it would be wise to attempt the warp-speed transport of a flag officer."
"I concur," Robinson replied, tones of a grudge set deep in his words. It was almost as if he'd been wanting to hear unfavourable news, Ghes thought, just so he could speak bitter words. "So you will be surrendering your command of the task force soon?" Robinson was asking.
"Well, yes... A surrender of sorts at least..." Gheskori mumbled a few false reasons for it, not at any point saying the true motives behind it all - that Cain had reclaimed it only by divulging some unexpected truths about the mission's overall nature. Ghes wished her well back on her ship, he just hoped he would not have to 'work' with her in this manner again.
Next on his contact list was an Admiral Richardson... It took fifteen minutes of searching but Ghes did eventually find the right channels to follow. However, it was going to take far too long and, according to the buck-passers he'd been speaking to, Admiral Richardson was away on a call. Thus Ghes returned to the bridge to take stock, planning to return to the task later. And that was no lie; this was a matter of great importance, hidden intelligence objectives did not run well with Ghes, in spite of the outward demeanour he displayed.
Three and a half hours later...
Poring over Commander Matthew's official reports in the ready room, Ghes received the signal that the Victory was dropping from warp. Outside the window, the warp distortions died to stationary before fading altogether, leaving behind them 'only' the countless, real background stars of the Milky Way.
Gheskori nodded to himself, absorbing the significance of this for himself. Victory and the majority of the task force had returned to Assailant. He looked back down to the PADDs, having earlier received them from Matthew. It was a real shock that the USS Endurance had been lost, the only solace to be taken from it being that it was a forced destruction... All of the active personnel had been evacuated, and the vessel destroyed with no other viable option readily available. The USS Leeds was now on its way back, nine hours behind the Victory and co. but they would arrive. The LaSalle on the other hand had made it only to the shipyards at 35 Serpentis, limping to a home of sorts, where the crew were at least saved and were encased well within the boundaries of Federation space.
After Commander Matthew's meticulous and very useful report, Ghes had granted the COO his rest back in his quarters. And now, there was to be a good period of shore leave for all.

Savin paused, shifting a little so he was better facing her. His robe fell to the side, revealing an empty sheath at his side. Tiana's mind instantly started to calculate the dimensions of the absent weapon which seemed to be a sword. "When the mission was successfully concluded, with Captain Adams coming aboard and with the aid of the Enterprise...at least I believe Enterprise was there but I am not certain...father was seriously injured while trying to save lives. Afterward, he remained aboard as chief of security, though pertaining his civillian status. He never joined starfleet, you see.""Sounds like a novel way to come aboard," Tiana said. She was about to ask which Enterprise but then checked herself; if they were discussing the NX era it could only be one Enterprise. "but I heard your father was a doctor, how did he come to switch from security?" "Ah yes," Savin continued, remembering, "There was an incident in Earth's past, in 1987, when the senior staff chased down a time traveler. Father was affected by the time-shift, and shot several people. When trying to shoot the timetraveler, something went wrong and he shot the captain instead. He tried to save the captain's life, but it was too late. Next they knew, they were back on Challenger's bridge. Father was eventually found innocent of murder, as it had been a fatal accident. You see, Captain Adams was located nowhere near father. In fact, history has it that Adams was standing behind my father. In any event, this caused father to reconsider his options, as obviously weapons were not something he was comfortable with, nor was anyone around him safe if he had any weapon." Tiana made a mental note to check what history did have to say on this incident. Maybe it could now be corrected? That would have tow ait until she got out of here. Again he paused, stroking the sheath absentmindedly. "So he decided to put his medical degree to good use and transferred to the position of chief medical officer. He has served with distinction since. While stranded for five months on a hostile planet, father survived by living with a subdued culture we now know as white-skinned vampires. You may have noticed my sister looks different; father adopted her while marooned there. He learned to survive and grow his own food as he could not eat what they ate. Like myself, father is severely lactose intolerant, and allergic to wheat. To defend himself against the enemy, and the Romulans, the men in the tribe taught him how to use a sword, and he has become quite expert at it. Father is now teaching me. My sword, while not here with me now, is a replica of his, balanced for my posture and technique. His blade is flaming red, almost as if it is indeed aflame when the light reflects off the blade. Again, like myself, father is left-handed, so the blades are thus balanced as well." Tiana was making further mental notes to read up about this race he had mentioned. Maybe she would be able to do that here. "It sounds as if you have lead a most interesting life. I would also be interested in seeing your sword technique at some point in the future." That was largely Cet's idea but Tiana was not adverse to it. Now, the young man looked almost flustered. "I am not nearly as good as he is, and I have a great deal to learn still. I do hope, though hope is an emotion, that perhaps we get the opportunity to remain here. I do not see how we could return to our own time, with what we know now." He looked up to meet her eyes. "If you have questions, I shall endeavour to answer them." Tiana broke into yet another smile. "You answered my question so it's only fair that you ask the next one." She was feeling as if she were a bag of energy. Tag: Savin (Saryn)

"Four hours, seven minutes," the helmsman piped up.
"OK?" Ghes asked Saryn.
“Tease, sir?” the Vulcan queried, not comprehending the idiom. Yet he nodded once. “Yes sir, I understand our...specialty. I appreciate your efforts on behalf of myself and my family and I understand the need for protocol. I am a doctor sir, protocol is everything, in the medical field.”
Saryn understood the need for urgency also, especially since they had apparently come aboard in the midst of a battle. Though with whom, he had absolutely no idea. Looking up, there was a mild expression on his face. “I will be with my family, in your infirmary commander. Should anyone need me, that is where I can be contacted.” With a final nod, he departed the bridge and headed back to sickbay, security officer that was assigned to him, in tow – and occasionally leading the way as the Victory was much, much larger, than the NX class he was used to.
In sickbay he sat next to T'Vin's bed, quietly holding her hand. The nurses told him she still hadn't woken up yet, though they also informed him that the sedation that had been used on her, could have a different effect than it had on him or Savin. Sodon cast his father a questioning look. “Where is Savin?” he asked.
“Savin is keeping a lady officer company in the brig,” the older Vulcan replied smoothly, while drawing Numike close to him. “He is not in trouble, he offered to keep her company, and learn about this time. There are many species on board this vessel, that which we have never seen before. No doubt, Starfleet will want to question and brief us, before we are allowed to go anywhere. I do not know how long this may take, but we will reach a starbase in three hours.”
The 15-year old nodded gravely. “I will remain with mother and Numike,” he vowed.
“I want to go to Savin,” Numike suddenly announced, baring her fangs at her brother. “I am not staying here.”
Saryn nodded his consent and gestured for the guard to accompany her. “Do not let her out of your sight,” he warned, a parental note in his voice.
~
"You answered my question so it's only fair that you ask the next one."
Savin had to think on that one. He paced the brig area, running both hands through his hair. “Tell me more about the Trill,” he finally requested, just as Numike came charging in, bowling her brother over. She bared her fangs at him in surprise, not having expected for him to be this close. Her fangs were close to his throat, before he realised what was going on. “This is not a game,” he chided his adoptive sister, “desist. Immediately!”
The girl scrambled back, surprise in her eyes. Savin rose back to his feet, then held out his hand towards her, pulling her back to her feet. “Apologies for the interruption, Miss Cet,” he apologised, while rearranging his clothing. “Allow me to introduce my sister, Numike. She was adopted a year ago, by my father after he was left behind on Miranda. As you can see, her fangs are part of her defensive reflexes, and she is capable of biting you to defend herself. As demonstrated just now.”
Savin held out his wrist to the girl. “A game,” he told her, “show her. You will not harm me, you have my word. Father will not hear of it.”
Confused, the girl looked up to the tall young man beside her. “But...” she complained. Yet at his nod, her fangs sank into his skin, savouring the taste of blood, she held fast for a moment. Savin hissed, then yanked his arm away. “Enough,” he told her, then stepped up to the forcefield, showing the Trill the bleeding punctures on his wrist. “She is a vampire,” he continued, “but she will not feed. She is being medicated against her urges, which she will need until she becomes a woman. She will, however attack, if she feels someone needs protection.”
Savin almost smiled, drawing the girl close to him. “She is fiercely protective of our father.” He looked up. “Anyway, you were going to tell me about your species. And what is living in this time like? Will I be able to study? Learn what I need to learn?” He looked away. “I would value your assistance.....and friendship,” he finally said.

Scene: USS VICTORY CMDR MATTHEW Quarters
“James hit his bed with a thump and a long groan. As he lay there he mentally ran down his body seeing if he could find a muscle, a joint even a bone that didn't ache.
“Cmdr Matthew -Computer start Log
“Star Date 940429.52

Cmdr James T Matthew recording“
“We are currently in root to S-B Assailant for much needed repairs to the ship as well as its crew Department heads and there division heads have been caring out there daily ship duties
I here there have been some discipline problem in the ranks but there where handle Quickly ‘by the Master chief Morris ‘
“Computer end Log “
“Matthew yawned and rubbed his eyes.
“It had been a long trip back Home as the officers and crew worked double shifts to try and fix as much of Victory’s damage as they could. They'd all made a Herculean effort and I was intensely proud of them.
“The ship would still be looking at some major work once it arrived at space dock tomorrow morning but they had certainly taken a respectable chunk of work off the damage control list.
“And just as importantly it had helped the crew come together in an incredibly short time. The beings that crewed VICTORY were talented, experienced and dedicated professionals but when they had originally got underway while they made have been a crew they were far from being a team.
“The Kasar had changed that but so too did the teamwork that had emerged as the crew fought to keep the ship functioning until they got back home. The team work, the esprit de corps that grown from this past week had melded the crew together in a way that would have taken months to do. But it had come at a heavy price.
The list of needed repairs To the Ship was a long one some major damage to the ship Navigation Array would need to be repaired I have made a repair List for the Dock Master senior Captain Jerry Claymore was a stickler for the Rules every request must be made in triplet using the right Form before he even will place you on the service schedule maybe we can have Admiral Cain have a Talk with him “
“Not wanting to mope he sat down at his desk and sent to friends serving on ships currently Dock at Assailant a short Comm. messages just in case they would be there when VICTORY was in port. It'd be good to get together with some old friends and trade stories over a few drinks. Maybe they'd pretend they were young again and try their luck in the clubs.
That done he shut the viewer off and leaned back in his chair. He was tired and knew he should return to his bed but his brain was racing and there was little chance he'd actually get much of the sleep his body needed.
At a whim he punched the comm. button. "Matthew to Masterson."
[What do you want?] Came the gruff reply. Yes, they'd built a team but they'd also frayed some nerves as well.
"How about proper military protocol for starters." Matthew quipped back.
[Uh, yes sir. Sorry sir.] Masterson responded not really sounding all that respectful.
Matthew chuckled. "Don't worry about it I'm just twisting your tail. If you're in the middle of something…."
The Chief Engineer snorted. [I'm in the middle of several something. Commander but a momentary distraction might be best for everyone right now. How can I help you?]
"Its actually distraction I'm calling about. Do you have any plans for shore leave?"
[Plans?] Masterson replied clearly puzzled at the question. [I'll be with the ship overseeing the repairs.]
"That's the yard dogs job. I know you'll want to keep involved with it but other then a few progress meetings and then being on the end of work inspection where we point out all the things out they missed you won't be there." Matthew waited patiently while the Assistant Chief engineer spewed forth a litany of curses covering the major races of the quadrant before he continued. "And its captain's orders. We've all worked hard and we need a rest including you. Especially you. And before you get up a head of steam and go make ultimatiums to the captain I think you should realize that your Uncle Kurt knows James best for you. It's a battle you will not win so give in gracefully."
[Very well. But if these yard dogs screw up one thing,]
"I know I know you'll feed them their entrails or pull their hearts from their chest ex cetera. Now then, what do you want to do for the week
“Matthew finished his yawn, and stretched a bit in the chair .yeah I need to get some sleep I see there are several recommendations .from my staff about which junior officer are ready for promotion. but this will just have to wait until tomorrow “
"James Lay Down his PADD on the desk walk over to his bed sat down turn back the covers then climbed in to bed ‘.
Computer lights off computer wake up call at 0630 hours "

Vin was not happy with the Admiral's attitude but there wasn't much he could do about it. When the Admiral left the ready room he had his men follow her just to make sure she stayed away from anything important.
Vin walked out of the office and headed to his position at tactical, he noticed his men walked out of the pbservation lounge come out but stood at the door, which was fine, he could monitor anything she did from here if neccesery he had a few tricks he had picked up along the way. He took note that from preliminary reports that damage repair teams were already hard at work getting the ship back in order.
Vin left the bridge after about an hour, he was tired and had his own reports to do, he headed to his office and sat down in his chair, he ordered hot herbal tea and began working on his report. He realized it was not coming and got up, he was to tired to write, he walked out and noticed Doctor Saryn talking to Commander Cel and walked up. He over heard the question about the trill species.
"The Commander is not the only trill on this ship, I am as well. It's ok, I dont mind you visiting, stay as long as you want." Vin said to the vulcan boy.

"Attention Decks this is Cmdr Matthew " James inhaled softly, and blew the air out his lips, soft enough so as to not be heard.”
"I want to Commend each and every one of you for your brave, heroic, selfless sacrifices these last few days. Your tireless efforts have saved us from defeat and disaster. Although we lost many friends, many brothers in arms, you all have performed beyond what I could have ever hoped."

“Cmdr Matthew smiled, shook his head, and silently mouthed a "Wow" to Lt, Masterson”
"I see. Well, maybe I should ask the Captain to promote him to Chief Engineer then, since he comes so highly recommended." The amusement in the Commander Matthew s voice was obvious, but not obvious enough for Masterson”
"Whoa Commander , let's not be hasty! After all, I am the only reason this ship didn't blow up in the first place. Cadet walker will be a Great Engineering officer in the future"

“ James yawned and rubbed his eyes. They had been going over status reports and crew evaluations for hours. James noticed this, and before commenting, took another drink of coffee. It must have been his 7th or 8th cup”
"Okay Ensign Morris , I think that's enough for tonight. What do you think?"
James finished his yawn, and stretched a bit in the chair.
"Ensign Morris Ah, sir, I think we are almost finished. We just need to finish the engineering report, and then go over the senior officer assessments. I have several recommendations."
“Cmdr Matthew nodded, and said, "Okay. Let's finish the engineering report. Get some shut eye, and then come back tomorrow morning, say 8 o'clock, and finish I need to hit the shower and meet up with Masterson on Assailant "
"Right." James nodded, and tapped the PADD.
"Okay. We have main power at 67%. That is amazing. The shields are almost repaired, but the sensors, especially long range, will need an overhaul, and several weapon systems will have to be replaced."
"Yes. I see that. Masterson was telling me it would take 8 weeks to repair all of these systems."
"8 weeks!" James exclaimed, before realizing how loud he was. "Sorry Ensign ."
“Cmdr Matthew tapped a button, and sent the reassignment to the three officers' schedules. They would get a surprise in the morning.
"Done."
"Everything else looks like she can be repaired ASAP. I am thinking we will need to contact Starfleet Operations for some new personal I hope we have a new Xo on board the sooner the better .
"I will have Lieutenant Jones do that in the morning." Another message sent to a schedule.
"Oh! One last thing. Let's schedule a senior officers formal meeting, tomorrow night at 1800 hours."
"Aye sir. Anything else?"
"No. I'll see you tomorrow at 8."
"Aye aye." With a smile, Ensign walker stood up, and with a respectful nod, headed to his quarters, leaving the Captain to ponder the mission and the consequences
I’m sure Acting Captain Gheskori would not be getting much sleep tonight he had 17 letters to write to the families of the deceased. I see he has already written dozens. It didn't get any easier.

Gheskori bid Commander Robinson farewell for a second time. The man's commanding officer, Admiral Cain, had now returned to the Montgomery, the task force was officially dissolved. Now there was the mission debriefing to take part in on the base, Fleet Command HQ were very demanding. It had dawned on Ghes that this was a very delicate situation; Wong was still in the brig, albeit not for long now, and Gheskori himself would need to attend that debriefing.
Still being the de facto commander of the task force had its consequences. He would see Cain at the debriefing most likely.
Admiral Richardson was still being elusive.
"How are you this morning, Commander?" Gheskori walked spritely on to the bridge, greeting Commander Matthew whom rose from the command chair. It was 0815 hours, Gheskori had slept poorly. "How go the repairs, Commander?" Ghes asked, not replacing the COO in the captain's chair but instead heading to his actual position, the helm, and running some docking checks. The Victory was moving into a preparatory mooring position, readying itself to initiate docking procedures. The Demetrius was ahead of them in the line.
Finally by ten o'clock the Victory had reached its mooring. Many of the crew, now off duty, had already beamed over to the Starbase. And now the rest of them disembarked, leaving only a crew of sixty-odd on the Nebula class ship.
"Tell me, Commander." Ghes said, eyes locked on the viewscreen and not looking at Commander Matthew. "How do you, personally, go about writing letters of condolence to families?" He'd asked it so neutrally and plainly, that Ghes almost felt guilty for those who had lost their lives, not giving them the proper respect.
<Tag Matthew>
He tried to focus on the gun-metal dock support strut that was now visible on the viewscreen. Its mechanisms locked into place, showing a final hard dock - just for safety - with the Victory. An inanimate piece of duranium could be so secure, he thought, unlike the tangible flesh, and the mind encased therewithin.
Gheskori left it in the COO and others' capable hands to initiate shore leave for the remaining officers on the ship. The Denobulan himself was now standing in a conference suite aboard Assailant. He stood near to one of the observatory windows, splitting his time between simply staring into space, and trading glances with the numerous command-level officers in the room. Ghes felt a little sheepish, being the lowest ranked officer in the room or at least one of the lowest, and at the same time being sort of in charge of the TF.
"OK, attention here please." A voice was calling. Ghes as well as everyone else's attention was attracted to the Admiral at the head of the suite. "Command officers come through to the debriefing room."
Gheskori smiled wanly. "This should be interesting," he said to a nearby Commander, this time barely bothering to inject his usual enthusiasm into the words.

Well Commander in my experience writing letters of Condolence to families will be one of the hardest thing any Commanding officer will be ask to do short of ordering men in to Dangerous situations that could get them killed “
Excuse me Commander I have some ship Board matters that I need to attend to Before the senor officers meeting start
(Minutes later On Board S-A Assailant )
The USS VICTORY was Moored at the Refit & Maintenance Station Five for refit, re-supply and re-arming. The victory crew was taking advantage of the station's shore leave facilities.
"The Victory Chief of ship Operations Commander James Matthew and a handful of the Victory personnel were going over to the station to oversee the transfer of material and supplies to the star ship.
As they entered one of the cargo bays Matthew spotted a gentlemen he knew. "Charlie?"
"James ?" He said as he shook the officer before him. "My you've changed a bit." He said. "Yeah, how's life on the station treating you?"
"Cmdr Matthew Not bad. Station Commander says I hear you are on a short list of Officers that might be allowed to design the new runabout
“Charlie yeah I been tossing that new design idea around to fleet Command . I might get a transfer back to Star ship services." But secretly James knew that with his friend troublemaker record and persona no Star ship commander within their right mind would accept him.
"Sorry Lieutenant. Commander Matthew, we've gotten all the emergency medical supplies, Captain Gheskori asked us to see if we can scrounge up some emergency parts for the torpedo tubes. You're supposed to check with the Logistics Officer."
"Thank you Mister Cain." The Ensign nodded and toddled off to oversee the transfer.
When the mention of Matthew rank made Charlie take notice. "Oh, hey I didn't know. Congratulations James. Speaking of Logistics, I'm that guy. Seems you also got some new torpedoes to be delivered." He signed off on it. "Commander Matthew. Before you know it I'll see you as a Captain or maybe Admiral."
Putting out two hands in a defense posture he replied. "Admiral's overdoing it a bit Charlie. I'll settle for becoming Captain of my own ship." As soon as the Ensign departed. "At least you're still in uniform Charlie, I'm glad to see that."
"What's your position?" Charlie said fighting to keep the bitterness out of his voice.
"Captain Gheskori is a great guy; maybe I can put a word in for you to him and see if he needs an engineering specialist. Not sure if Lieutenant Masterson will accept it but we can at least try."
"Yes sir." Charlie said not wanting help from his former protégé who now surpassed him and was his superior via rank. He could never respect this guy or desire to serve under him.
“Victory to Matthew."
"Go ahead Victory"
"Commander Meeting is about to get underway
"Yes Victory, I'm on my way." He then looked at Charlie, "Its good seeing you Charlie. You take care."
"You too Sir."
( 3 minutes later )
Matthew enter the Conference room and sat down with his Padd in hand looking up His friends service record to Date

Well Commander in my experience writing letters of Condolence to families will be one of the hardest thing any Commanding officer will be ask to do short of ordering men in to Dangerous situations that could get them killed “
Gheskori audibly coughed, a sort of harrumph too. The COO's words were hardly a reassurance, he thought. Part of him almost held a sort of resentment towards James Matthew for speaking like that, but really the Denobulan knew that he was just being honest. He knew instantly that Matthew spoke nothing more but the truth.
"Well, thankfully I am not the commanding officer of the Victory." Ghes said bluntly, leaving it at that. Silence fell heavy, the tinkling of the consoles' buttons being the only sound, the muffled beeps of which, for a while, took on an almost liquid quality. Finally, after some time and with an enduring silence, Ghes felt that the blunt mood of the exchange had dissipated. The officers simply continued indifferently with their duties.
Excuse me Commander I have some ship Board matters that I need to attend to Before the senor officers meeting start Commander Matthew said, heading from the bridge.
Lieutenant Taylor headed for the secondary brig, the difficult nature of her coming task causing her some apprehension. Encased in their cell, behind the confining gauze of the forcefield, were Commander Galwyn and the Colonel, Tiberian Wong. They were far from criminals, but that did not detract at all from what she saw as an awkward situation.
She came to a stop before them, briefly took in their gazes, then nodded behind to the attendant brig officer. There also seemed to be one of the young Vulcans present, the eldest of Doctor Saryn's 'children' if she wasn't mistaken. "Hello," she offered to him, while waiting for the brig officer to do his thing. Her greeting garnered no response, so she said it again, finally touching the young Vulcan under the shoulder...
Out of nowhere, the chief of security appeared. He was stepping forward, as if warning Christina Taylor against something. Apparently though, from Wolf's expression, it was too late.
<Tag Saryn (Savin), Vin>
The brig officer, Ensign Maotal, finished his releasing of Wong and Galwyn. They could go free, Taylor knew, but she was also vaguely aware that the entire issue would require some delicate handling. What the mad Admiral Cain would do about it she didn't know, but something just didn't add up in that regard. Everything seemed a little off; this sudden release made little sense right now.
The generally cavalier expressions on Wong and Galwyn Cet's faces didn't fade as they left the brig. They looked cavalier in Taylor's opinion anyway. In the case of Wong, that was to be expected, however in the CScO's case, she wasn't sure at all.
<Tag Tiana - you're free!>
Like a fish in a giant shoal, Gheskori wiggled his way out of the SBA conference room. All around him, COs and XOs were likewise piling out of the suite, all of them squeezed through a bottleneck and now shooting out in all directions, in a titanic release of pressure.
"Thank the stars," he muttered, his eyes glittering oddly, conspiratorally at an executive officer alongside him. There was a bar, now visible up ahead, but unfortunately that wasn't going to be Ghes's destination. During the high-profile debriefing, he had sat with an increasingly dour expression on his face, until near the end, his head was virtually slumped to the table, his arms just barely keeping him from dozing off into a mire of tired, cerebratory wanderings. Now however, he would have to endure another one, this time as the chair.
Dragging himself into the Victory's much more homely version of the conference room, Gheskori placed himself at the head of the table and met his eyes with those of the senior officers present. Quickly he apologised for the inpromptu nature of the briefing, but he needed to set some things straight before they could set off for shoreleave. The last officer came into the room and Ghes started.
"I know this might seem slightly odd," he said, "Me giving this briefing. But I'm sure you know that Colonel Wong has headed over to the starbase to answer some questions from command. With some luck, not that I, or any of us, believe in that, he will return to us soon.
"I wouldn't want to delay any of you in starting your shore leave, and I will in fact request that you all get off the ship as soon as possible," Ghes smiled, "So I will just make a few particular requests of each of you. Commander Matthew, if possible I'd like for you to prepare a full report on our level of repairs and give it to the on-base engineering personnel. The more of the repairs that we can hand off to the base staff the better it is for us. Don't let it detract from your shore leave.
<Tag James Matthew>
"Ensign Wolf and Commander Galwyn, I understand you have been conversing with our new arrivals from the 22nd century." The two officers nodded slowly. Ghes looked to Doctor Saryn and then back to Tiana and Vin, "I'd like you both to continue if possible. Doctor Saryn, I will need you to come with me to base command, I believe personally vouching for you to remain on this ship would definitely help in your ability to stay here. And how would you feel about Vin and Tiana looking after your family for a while? Perhaps together," he nodded at both CTSO and CScO very deliberately, a growing sense of mirth in his eyes, "They can show your offspring and wife around the starbase. Introduce them to some of the delights of our 24th century. Maybe sample some culinary delights? How does that sound?"

OOC: Been really short of inspiration for Tiana lately so I have very little idea where this post is going... Her suggestion that he ask her something had obviously thrown the young Vulcan but Tiana waited patiently for him to ask. “Tell me more about the Trill,” he finally requested, Just then a very pale skinned barrelled into the brig area at high speed. She almost crashed into Savin. The girl hissed at Savin and to Tiana's surprise showed fangs in her mouth, this had to be the 'vampire' sister he had mentioned. “This is not a game,” he chided his adoptive sister, “desist. Immediately!”There was a moment when it looked like the girl was either going to scuttle away or fall over, but Savin caught her hand and steadied her on her feet. As demonstrated just now.” Savin held out his wrist to the girl.
Tiana looked at the neat puncture marks and the small trickle of green leaving them and made another mental note to find out more about the girl's species and also never to upset her. "I would be happy to be your friend." Tiana said. Then added a wry smile "But please don't call me Miss Cet, Miss Galwyn if you must but I'd much prefer Tiana." She placed a hand on her stomach and sighed gently. "For all that Cet is currently a part of me I won't be keeping the symbiont. Cet will be returned to my home planet as soon as medically possible. Preferably before I get court-martialled." A flicker of regret washed across her face. "Cet will be joined to a carefully selected and worthy candidate." She swallowed. "I have know doubt you will be able to continue your studies in whatever area you wish. As for living the 2390s... I hope you won't find it too much of a shock, quite a bit has happened since your time. I'll try to give you a run down on the last couple of hundred years as well." Tiana paced the length of her cell and then settled once more on the floor with her back to the wall and side on to the forcefield. It was about as close as she could get to Savin and Numike. She just had to remember not to make any dramatic hand gestures lest she stick he hand to the forcefield. "Lets see, my home world... Trill is in the Alpha Quadrant. Our first contact with other races lead to a lot of secrecy and withdrawal. For a long time no one knew whether to draw to join the larger community or keep out of it and protect our secrets." Tiana didn't notice that she was narrating the story with the air of one who was there. "We've always had a knack for sciences and medical sciences in particular. Admittedly my speciality is physical sciences." She touched the band of blue visible at the throat of her uniform and wondered when she'd be able to get back into the lab. "The isolationist policy lead to some misunderstandings over the years but we kept our secrets. Then there was a diplomatic incident aboard the Enterprise D, they've kept using the name for the flagship" She added. "Anyway a Trill ambassador died but his symbiont survived and all the secrets came out and the galaxy at large didn't run away in panic. So, things are a lot more open now." Tiana started giving them a run down of the last 250 years starting with the end of the Earth-Romulan war and the founding of the Federation going up to the Victory's current mission. She was grateful for Cet's memories in this instance and was relieved to finally be finding them useful rather than overwhelming. She would miss Cet when the symbiont was returned to Trill. Then news came down that Tiana and Colonel Wong were free to go. Tiana wasn't sure what to make of that. She was sure that Admiral Cain was not done with either her or Cet. Still she was not going to look a gift horse in the mouth and left her cell with a rather jaunty smile that mirrored the one Tiberian was wearing. She wanted a clean uniform, a meal and some sleep however, she was informed that she was wanted up in the briefing room. At least she'd gotten off lighter than the Colonel who had to go over the starbase. Tiana hadn't even realised that the Vic had docked. Having also been informed that Saryn was to be at the briefing. Tiana escorted Savin and Numike through the corridors of the Victory. "Ensign Wolf and Commander Galwyn, I understand you have been conversing with our new arrivals from the 22nd century." The two officers nodded slowly. Ghes looked to Doctor Saryn and then back to Tiana and Vin, Tiana nodded. She hadn't been paying a lot of attention to the briefing but had tuned back in at the sound of her name. "I'd like you both to continue if possible. Doctor Saryn, I will need you to come with me to base command, I believe personally vouching for you to remain on this ship would definitely help in your ability to stay here. And how would you feel about Vin and Tiana looking after your family for a while? Introduce them to some of the delights of our 24th century. Maybe sample some culinary delights? How does that sound?"
Before Tiana or anyone else could answer the question her stomach growled loud enough that certianly the Vulcans present could hear it. "Sounds good to me." She rose to her feet. "Shall go the messhall, then?" Tag: briefing OOC: Guess I found some inspiration after all

"Shall we go to the messhall, then?" Tiana asked.
Ghes sat back, eyeing each of the people at the table briefly then smiling and shifting in his chair. He hoped Tiana would get some company in the mess hall. For he had other plans.
"Well, I for one would love to join you," he said, "But unfortunately I have work to do. There are letters for me to write and another meeting at 'Base for me to attend. So without further ado, that will be all. Dismissed."
<Tag Crew>
Once the last person had left the room, Ghes slumped back in his seat, letting out a previously inhaled deep breath. These remaining letters of condolence were going to be difficult. He'd previously planned to use the templates available to him for sending these kind of letters. That idea had soon been ditched, he wondered on how many commanding officers actually used those templates. He also pondered on why such awful things would ever have been made; it struck the Denobulan as sad that such things ever needed to be used. It wasn't as if deaths occurred all the time on starships- wasn't it??
Ghes worked for seven hours before stumbling to his bed and slipping under the covers. He was exhausted. But then, having been up for eight days would do that. Even for a Denobulan that was pushing the limits of sleep deprivation. He woke at three hundred hours, standardised Assailant time, and headed down to the mess hall for something to eat.
Tiana was no longer present, of course, so Gheskori decided to go mad for 'breakfast'. Piling the plates up, he gorged on a veritable feast, which by Denobulan standards was something of a general luncheon. The majority, if not almost all of the crew would have been on Assailant by now. There was not even the customary presence of Ensign Kabarka, working on his equations in the corner of the room. Ghes expected the last of the crew to depart come the morning.
By chance, he realised he could espy the vestibule from the ship to the Starbase, outside one of the mess hall's portal windows. The light of its windows - saturating those small rectangles so that no defining image was resolvable within - intermittently darkened for short periods. Those patches of dark moved along the windows of the vestibule, heading 'Base-wards, thus indicating that at least three more people were making their way 'Base-side.
Ghes realised it was time for his own trip to the Starbase. Gathering himself, he walked alone out of the mess hall. Then out in the corridor and walking at a brisk pace, he tapped his commbadge. "Doctor Saryn, Commander Gheskori. Doctor, meet me at the entrance of the docking vestibule. We're going over to the Starbase to get you checked in for official ship-duty."

Lieutenant Jr. Grade Christina Taylor:
Taylor had been recruited to help Commander Galwyn Cet and Ensign Wolf with Saryn's family. She was standing around in the docking concourse on Assailant, just outside the vestibule that led from the ship. The family themselves were not present; heck knew where they were. Galwyn was with her and Ensign Wolf was nearby; what he was doing, she did not know. She was a little bit clueless as to what was going on right now. "Are you going to keep Cet?" she asked Tiana suddenly.

Saryn nodded in silence, observing the interaction between his eldest son and the Trill girl. It was obvious the youth had taken to her, in more ways than one, and briefly he wondered whether it'd be wise to let it continue uninterrupted. However his train of thoughts was interrupted by his younger son demanding his attention.
Bright-eyed, Sodon stared around. He hadn't been allowed to leave the medical bay before but now he was taking everything in at once. "Father are we going to stay here?" he queried, as he held Numike's hand, allowing her to drag him along. The fifteen-year old was still of an age where he could be emotionally overwhelmed.
"Yes, we are," Saryn replied, holding out two fingers of his right hand towards T'Vin. He felt her fingers brush against his, and the mental bond between them flared. He didn't know how openminded this century was towards Vulcans with the ability to mind-meld, they would have to tread carefully until they knew.
In silence, the couple and their family followed Galwyn/Cet to the messhall, where both youths sampled a wide variety of edibles, with the sole exclusion of anything composed of meat. Numike, however, had no such reservations and sampled everything that was set before her.
"Doctor Saryn, Commander Gheskori. Doctor, meet me at the entrance of the docking vestibule. We're going over to the Starbase to get you checked in for official ship-duty."
"On my way commander." He bowed politely towards Galwyn/Cet, then bid his family goodbye. "I shall return shortly."
"Father, I wish to go with you," Savin spoke up, having seen his father speak rather than having heard.
"As you wish." The older Vulcan turned and walked away, his oldest son close on his heels. At age 22, Savin was at an age to start his internship. Perhaps something could be arranged in regards to serving on the Victory. He would, however, send T'Vin and Sodon either to Earth, or to Vulcan. Numike would never leave his side, he knew, no matter how he tried so that wasn't even open for debate. But Sodon needed further schooling, and T'Vin never did fancy living on a starship. She preferred solid ground under her feet.
Five minutes later, the two Vulcans waited patiently for their host to arrive.

OOC: I hope you don't mind me chipping in here, your on Assailant after all and Magellans been a bit quite for awhile.
It was always with some delight and trepidation that Magellan recieved the USS Victory back to Assailant. As his former ship and command the old girl certainly held a special place in his heart. The Nebula class vessel had berthed late last night whilst he had been on duty. On special assignment to a Taskforce led by Rear Admiral Cain.
Magellan knew very little about the Admiral and had not been pleased that she had been tasked to investigate Kasar movements when it had been his own staff that had revealed the Kasan-thar and initiated fist contact. Nevertheless Cain was a flag officer and Magellan a professional. He had yet to be briefed on the results of their mission or how successful it had been. He understood why the Victory was being assigned, the Crew and her CO were fast becoming experts on the unusual race and their services were obvious. As for the other vessels in the taskforce, well he knew little of them. All were sent from command and outside of Section 47 jurisdiction.
He hoped that the threat of the Kasar had passed. What he himself had seen of them chilled him to the bone and knew that the Federation could ill afford a prolonged conflict with them, expecially with the Colonial War between the Tholians and Klingons still threatening to engulf the whole quadrant. Recent peace talks had failed and even Magellans own bid to unify the sides in a joint venture in to the Delta Quadrant had recieved a cool reception, expecially as there had been an attempted assassination of Lovine the Tholian diplomat.
Things had changed much in the last few months on Assailant, Ambassador Vebn had finally rid himself of Tedak whom he had heard had been assigned as Diplomatic Officer to the liason vessel S'Harian commanded by the Tal Shiar Agent Commander Govan Echal. Likewise Ambassador Tedaks ex-wife had departed for service in the fleet, her new husband still on Assailant and still suffering from crippling amnesia. Saarok, the enigmatic Vulcan diplomat was seen less and less and Ezedrianas sabbatical on Trill wasnt even half over.
He was stirred from his thoughts by the official report of the Taskforces actions which he read with increasing astonishment. Tapping the comm he said,
"Commander get me Setction Admiral Drew on Sub-space immediatly and then get me the Cheif of Staff."
"Aye sir" Zoilip, his aide and Tactical officer replied from the Operations centre.
Within moments the screen lit up with Drews face, "Whats up Mag?" Paul asked "Cains Taskforce is whats up" Magellan replied tersly "Ah... you ve seen the report then." "Your damn right I have. The Victory is our ship she had no..." "She had every right Mag as Taskforce commander. As well you know. Cain will be dealt with by Command, your issue is the Victory." Magellan scowled, he hated it when Drew was right, it happened far too often, probably why he was made Section Admiral. "So..." Drew pressed, "Well for a start we dont have any Command Staff available, Lieutenant Commander Gheskori will have to remain in command until Colonel Wong is cleared and returned to duty." "Sounds reasonable. What about the other issue?" "You mean the time travels, I hate Temporal Investigations and they'll be all over this one." "Don't be so sure" Drew added, "Deep Space Nine had a major timeline shift incident last month they are still tied up there. Until they arrive to debrief them its your call." Magellan nodded, "Okay. I ll wait till the report in and make my decision then." "Is that all you wanted to bend my ear about then?" "Yes. Sorry Paul." "No worries, I needed a break anyways. See you next week at the Command Meeting. Drew Out."
Zoilips blue head popped round the door, "I m having difficulty getting a line to Earth and the Chief of Staff." "Not to worry Zoilip I am over reacting as usual. Anything else." "Yes Sir. Commander Gheskori and his party have come aboard Assailant." "Thank you Zoilip. Have them report to me at their earliest convenience."

The typically attired vulcans were waiting for him at the docking vestibule entrance, just where he'd requested for 'one' of them to meet him. Not that Gheskori minded the secondary presence, only that it was a little bit of a surprise, and could prove a minor inconvenience when they reached the personnel office.
They grew in his sight as he approached them, his attention slowly falling on the older robed vulcan as he reached the pair of them, like a homing missile veering as it closed the distance to its target. Gheskori's face exploded into a smile and he greeted Saryn and Savin warmly. "Shall we go?" he asked, then, without waiting for an answer - as it would obviously be yes - he led the way down the docking vestibule's corridor.
The trio's passage to the personnel office was mainly uneventful, despite them twice nearly becoming lost. Fortunately Ghes had the two vulcans - with their senses of direction - on-hand to help him with such concerns. Unfortunately, it meant that he'd have problems finding his way back on his own.
Apparently, Fleet Commander Admiral Magellan Lin himself wanted to see him. Still being the de facto leader of the disassembled task force would have precipitated that. Ghes expected it to be nothing more than a brief piece of unhelpful bureaucracy; a quick ceremonial visit to satisfy the regulations, to keep things official.
"There shouldn't be too many problems," Ghes muttered, unconvincingly reassuredly to Saryn as they entered a long, well-kept lobby room. Plush seats, extravagant indeed for Starfleet, lined the place. These led entering parties inexorably to the reception desk at the end of the room, at which point the visitors would make their requests or report their business and so on.
"Commander Gheskori?"
Ghes spun, facing the person who'd just spoken his name. "Yes?" he smiled, seeing the junior officer.
"Admiral Lin will see you now."
"Ah.. Very well." Ghes turned to the vulcans. "I've been called to see Admiral Lin, just some meaningless duty I have to perform to keep the bureaucrats silent, I would think." He looked at Saryn, "I'll call if you're needed, but I doubt that will be necessary. I won't be long; wait outside if you'd like." He moved for the exit.
"Admiral," Ghes said, watching the door slide shut behind him as Lin's blue-skinned aide stepped out the other way. The Denobulan turned to face the Trill, coming to rigid attention. Lin's status as a flag officer was not the primary component that caused for him to command great respect. That much was clear from both his service record and his general aura.
Unable to look the impressive Admiral directly in the eye - unusual, especially for a Denobulan - Ghes's eyes took the alternative: the Admiral's desk. He cocked his head very slightly, his attention caught by one of the PADDs. Face flashing with recognition at the PADD's subject matter, he relaxed marginally. "You've read my report, sir..?" he questioned.
