S'reena was glad to finally be allowed to leave sickbay, as she was getting utterly bored being cooped up in the isolation ward. Her balance still wasn't wat it ought to be, but Illito assured her that it would pass soon. She was handed a fresh uniform and she quickly pulled it on, adjusting the sheath of her Honour Blade as it was part of her uniform.
"Thank you for your care," she formally told Illito, and it was actually the first time she had thanked a medic for his/her care. It was uncommon to do, but since she'd been killed and rapidly nursed back to health, the Romulan first officer thought it was the proper thing to do. She smiled slightly, as she passed the captain's 'room', seeing him quietly feed her youngest child. ~I was right, it has given him something to do, and less time to dwell on things that've happened~ she thought, as she walked towards the sickbay doors.
Then she stopped, realizing that Yrdis had suggested she go to engineering. "What on earth would I do in engineering?" she wondered, "I know nothing of engineering, I am a scientist." Yet, she got herself down to engineering and went looking for Commander Rio. "Do you need assistance?" she finally asked, after she'd spotted the CEO.
When he declined assistance, she got herself up to the bridge. "I believe I will be of more use either at the science station, or at the helm," she stated, then waited for Yrdis to respond.
"Also, I am pleased to report that the captain is doing well. He may still be a little confused, but at least he's responsive now. Your cadet is doing quite a remarkable job on him, if I may say so."

Jason crouched down on the ground, opened his pack, and brought out the hypospray, and a vial. He explained to Owens what to do, doing so as he explained. "First, you insert the vial into the hypo like this. Next, you press the hypo to their neck like this, and press this button here. The vial will fill with blood like so. Then you take the vial out, insert a new one, and move on to the next one. Now, come over here and try on this next one."
"I'd be more at home examining their mechanical components, but I'll do my best." Gary replied with a lopsided grin. He pressed the Hypo to the Borgs neck, but forgot the button. Nothing happened. "Oh yeah, The button. Safety feature to keep these thingies from going off accidental-like. Here we go." He tried again, and tis time the vial filled with the mottled grey-maroon colored Borg blood. Nanites and all.
"Excellent, there ya go. Now if you'll check the kit I gave you you'll notice that it's full of vials and a hypo. I want to go around to the area, and collect blood samples from all the Borg that appear to be healthy." He turned to the Borg. "Instruct your drones to comply with him, please."
He paused again. "Done."
As Gary moved off to continue with the sampling, his good natured humor hit full bloom. With his best imitated Transylvanian accent, he said "Come to me my dahlings. I vant to suck your blood".
The humor was lost on the Borg, who gave no response. But, it was meant for the ears of his non-Borg crewmates, and to cover the fact that he was a nervous wreck in the presence of so many Borg.

Illito dismissed Ensign Randell back to duty, her check-up having been completed. Well, Illito thought, upset with and worried about Angel for having left without a checkup. At least one of her patients, the ensign, was healing, and checked in when asked to.
Soon after Ensign Randell had left, Anderson materialized in the sickbay, on one of the beds. The Cadet was unconscious. Illito sighed.
Upon examination, it seemed like the thing that was most bothering Anderson was a lack of sleep. Which wasn’t too surprising. Anderson also seemed to be fairly bruised, from what Illito didn’t really know. The other Cadet looked like she had been tossed around.
“Cadet Tintagel to Commander Blayne. Can you tell me where Cadet Anderson was?” Illito asked
“She and Commander Hawking have just returned from destabilizing a torpedo. They were caught in the explosion, and were blasted,” Blayne responded.
“How is Commander Hawking?” Illito asked.
“He seems fine,” Blayne responded.
“Have him report to sickbay as soon as he’s able,” Illito requested. She heard Blayne acknowledge her, then turned to Anderson. She ran a tissue mitigator over Anderson, then, after the bruises and cuts were healed, decided to just plain let the cadet sleep.

OOC: Joint post between the two of us, Paris and Owens, cut and pasted.
Having been left alone yet again, she makes the computer do most of the internal scans, and decides she needs a swim.
=/\= Paris to Black =/\= =/\= Black here =/\=
"Sir, I am going for a walk, and will be back a little later. Paris out." She says after he acknowledges. She walks up into the hills with a towel only. Once there, she finds a small lake, puts the towel on a tree branch, strips, and dives in.
Gary had just finished collecting the last of his samples, when he felt nature call (yes, star fleeet goes potty too.). He placed the sample kit at Dr. Blacks feet, and excused himself. After a brief walk, to a spot he thought was secluded, unfastened, and proceeded to begin his business.
He heard a splash from the pond below. He looked down, and there, completely disrobed, was Cadet paris doing the backstroke. Rather than get in trouble for now having unrefutable proof that Paris was female, he chose to get out of there.
That's when everything went wrong. As he backed away from the bush, he tripped over a rock, and rolled downhill. The sudden shock of it caused him to "finish his business" so to speak.
He landed in the pond with a splash.
He stood enough to get his head above water, and saw he was now face to face with a now annoyed Cadet Paris. At this point, he knew he'd rather be back trying to make the Borg laugh at his jokes. Realizing Owens is in the pond now too, she turns red and swims back to her towel.
"You better turn around, and don't you dare peek!" She screams at him as he turns around. She keeps her eyes on him to make sure he doesn't peek, as gets out and grabs her towel. She wraps herself in it.
"Okay, now get out of that pond. I don't know what you think you were doing spying on me like that, but I don't appreciate it." She says giving him a cold glare. "Spying? I'll have you know that your otter impersonation just made me pee all over myself." He turned away from her. "As soon as I rinse it all out, and fasten up, I intend to keep right on not spying on you."
Once he was secure, he climbed out of the pond and began sloshing his way back to the rest of the away team.
She quickly dries off and dresses.
"Wait up will you? We will go back together. How else are you going to explain all of this?" She says trying to catch up to him. He stops and waits on her. When she catches up to him she slaps him, not once, but twice. Gary recoiled. "Oww... what was that for... It wasn't my fault."
"That is what you get." She says as she smiles and starts to laugh.
"For falling in the pond? You surprised me. That's all. I wasn't expecting a potty show."
"Well, still you should be more careful next time." She says not sure exactly what happened.
Gary looked back at her, noticing she was laughing a bit. "Well, now I know more about you than probably anyone else onboard."
She looks over at him. Seeing he is very wet, she finds she likes him. "So, what now?" She says smiling, but hoping he doesnt see her feelings.
He looks at her, then the image of her swimming came back. He blushed and turned away, staring intently at the path before them. "We dry off I guess." He paused a moment before adding "But if nature ever calls again, I may have to take a message."
"If you hadn't noticed, the only thing still wet is my hair." She says trying not to laugh again about the incident. She feels herself blushing, and hopes he doesn't notice. A small part of her wishes he does though.
Gary begins to feel a bit bolder. "Since the rumors are gonna fly anyway, when we get back to the ship, could we get together at Holodeck two in a program called McKluskeys Pub?"
"I've never been there myself, but sure." She says as she takes his hand smiling hoping he gets the hint.
Gary grasps her hand and smiles at her, then they arrive back at the rest of the away team. Gary, still holding her hand, him dripping wet, her in a dry uniform with wet hair, asks Dr. Black "Did we miss anything?"

She wakes up all of a sudden and realizes she knows her surroundings, and groans as she realizes she is in sickbay once again. She seems to end up there no matter what she does.
"Is someone trying to tell me something? I seem to end up here a lot lately." She says laughing and finding her ribs aching as she does.
"I must have been hit with a bus or something." She says feeling all of the aches and pains all over again as Illito walks over. She smiles hoping not to show the pain.
"How long have I been here," She says looking around and not seeing the commander. "Hey where did Commander Hope go? I guess she is well enough to leave." She looks up at Illito wondering how long Joan will be in pain.

“Is someone trying to tell me something? I seem to end up here a lot lately.” Illito noticed that Anderson seemed to be awake. A couple of seconds later, that was confirmed by Anderson’s words.
“I must have been hit with a bus or something.” Anderson said as Illito walks over. Illito could tell from the tone of Anderson’s voice, and by the other cadet’s words, that Anderson is in pain. Illito also noticed that Anderson seemed to be trying to conceal her pain, which hardly seemed like the proper way to deal with it.
“How long have I been here,” Anderson asked, looking around. “Hey where did Commander Hope go? I guess she is well enough to leave.”
“Commander Hope has returned to duty.” Illito explained. “And you haven’t been here very long at all.”
“Now, I didn’t want to disturb your sleep,” Illito continued. “But you have a broken bone in your left arm and one in your left leg, which I will take care of now that you are conscious. The healing process will be much better that way. There were numerous bruises, some of which are going to heal on their own, and some of which I have taken care of. There was some internal bleeding, but I healed that.” Illito hoped that she wasn’t frightening Anderson by giving her details of how she had been hurt, but Illito didn’t really see any point in keeping the truth from those who had been injured. Especially after the injuries had been healed, but even when the patient was in the middle of the healing, de-emphasizing the injuries, making them seem less serious than they were, seemed pointless and almost counter-productive. After all, a patient had to be able to trust their doctor to tell them the truth.
"I'm giving you something for the pain now," Illito finished, interrupting her own train of thought.

Hearing Illito, she gladly accepts the hypospray to ease her pain, and realizes Illito is telling her what was wrong with her.
"So does this mean I can't return to duty?" She say chuckling a little and feeling the pain in her ribs. She wonders if Illito knows about her ribs, and thinks she should tell her.
"Is there something wrong with my ribs as well? I can't seem to laugh without pain." She tells her waiting for the response. Besides she knows she can't return to duty like this, and wonders how long it will take to get her back on her feet.
"Hey, don't put me back to sleep. I don't want to sleep anymore. I am not tired. Is there anyone who can keep me company?" She says hoping her request is granted. She doesn't want to sleep, because if she does happen to die, then she doesn't want to go that way. She wants to go fighting like her parents.

“So does this mean I can't return to duty?” Anderson asked, Illito assumed Anderson was joking.
“I think it would be better if you stay off duty for a while. Give yourself a chance to heal,” Illito replied, just in case Anderson had been serious.
“Is there something wrong with my ribs as well? I can't seem to laugh without pain.” Anderson questioned.
“The area around your ribs is bruised. I can heal it.” Illito answered.
“Please do,” Anderson requested. Illito pulled out the tissue mitigator again, and used it to heal Anderson’s bruises. “Is there anything else that is bothering you?” Illito asked. “If not, I think you should go back to sleep,” she suggested.
“Hey, don't put me back to sleep. I don't want to sleep anymore. I am not tired. Is there anyone who can keep me company?” Anderson said.
“There’s only me,” answered Illito. “But there really isn’t that much for me to do just now, so I would be delighted to keep you company. Even if I would rather that you rested.”

"I know you want me to rest and heal, but I don't want to sleep. I am resting in a way, and I will heal. I am anxious to get back to work, and even though I don't mind your company, I really don't like being sick or in sickbay." She says smiling and wonders what will happen next.
"Tell me about your brother." She says laying back to relax as much as possible, and to listen. She thinks Illito's voice is soothing, but doesn't want to fall asleep, even if she is going to get better.
"I do have a problem though. I know I am going to heal and all, but I just don't want to sleep. What if a complication arises and I suddenly die? I don't want to go that way." She says realizing she just told Illito her fear. She is afraid of only that. She doesn't mind death, but she doesn't want to go out easy like that.

“Tell me about your brother.” Anderson requested.
“My brother?” Illito asked, a little surprised. “His name is Cido. He is a patriot, and he loves Cardassia,” Illito said, her voice only a little disapproving. As far as she could tell, there was no Cardassia to love. “He is five years older than me, and he has been trying to make a living. He wants to be a part of a government, but he’s not going to be a soldier.” That was why it had been doubly hard for him to support Illito in her career path. She had been going off, to fight, and she wouldn’t be fighting for Cardassia.
“I don’t think he approved of me joining Starfleet, but I’m not sure. He supported me in it and helped me any way he could. It was my dream, and he helped to make it a reality.” Illito paused, giving Anderson a chance to say something, and giving herself a chance to think about what she was going to say.
“I do have a problem though,” Anderson commented. “I know I am going to heal and all, but I just don't want to sleep. What if a complication arises and I suddenly die? I don't want to go that way.”
Illito wasn’t sure how comforting it would be if she laughed, so she decided against it. “I don’t believe that you are going to die from a couple of broken bones and some bruises. I don’t think that has ever happened. If that is why you don’t sleep, I can tell you that the sleep will do far more to help you heal than it could possibly do to, well, stop the healing process.”

After talking to Paris for a bit about her injury and the aretothyne, Jason went back to Sickbay.
Rachel looked away from the data on the virus displayed on the monitor as he walked in, looked at him, then looked back at it. "So what do we do about this?"
He walks over, and looks over the data for a while. This was quite the malignant virus. Rescanning the samples they had collected, it appeared that the virus, having nothing else to feed upon, had begun attacking the blood cells within the samples themselves. Jason brought up a microscopic view of a sample, and his first impression was that of a battle.
He watched as the virus, in essence a machine itself, attacked the nanoprobes from the Borg's bloodstream. The two collided, and after an attempt at fighting back for a bit, the nanoprobes went inert under the virus's influence.
Jason pulled himself away, and began to think. "Well, these things are still partly organic, and organic tissue is still necessary for a cybernetic lifeform, even a virus. Perhaps radiation might have some influence on it. I need a patient in here."
"Do you think thats wise?" Rachel asked, looking concerned.
"These Borg are being paralyzed by this virus, Rachel. A significantly infected drone won't be able to move at all. I'll be back."
He left the Shuttle, and headed towards the settlement. Fortunately, the affected drones weren't too far away. He approached the one's still standing.
"I need to take one of the infected drones back to my Shuttle for further study of this virus and its effects. Will you allow me to beam one to our Sickbay and perform tests on it?"
They were silent for a moment, then one said "Proceed."
Jason headed over to the building containing the infected drones. He selected one, then tapped his comm-badge. "Black to Aerowing. Lock onto my signal and the Borg Drone closest to me and beam us to Sickbay."
Over the comm-link, the computer beeped in acknowldgement, then initiated transport. As Jason and the drone appeared in Sickbay, Rachel looked over. "I see they agreed," she said.
Jason nodded. "We're trying to help them. Of course they're going to agree. Help me get this one up on the biobed."
They lifted the heavy drone up onto the table. This one was just well-built, and therefore difficult to lift. "You should have just had the Computer him to the bed," Rachel commented.
They activated the radiation treatment, and stepped back. After a few minutes, they scanned him.
"Doesn't look like it's having any effect," Rachel said, sighing.
"Darn it."
A moment later, Paris and Owens come back onboard. Jason noticed that Owens was quite wet, and Paris's hair was wet as well. "Did we miss anything?" Owens asked.
Jason noticed the case in his hand, and held his hand out. After Owens handed it over, Jason passed it onto Rachel. "Check these for signs of the virus," he said, as she took it. She nodded and opened it, and began plugging them into the scanner.
"Well, yes you missed quite a bit. We've discovered that these Borg have been infected with a cybernetic virus. It's affected their command pathways, effectively paralyzing them, and also causing mild pain in the affected areas. We've tried radiating the virus, but to no effect."
Rachel turned. "Jason? It looks like the healthy ones are infected too."
Jason turned. "Let's see."
Rachel tapped a key, and a view of it came up. There were the copies of the virus; dormant, but still present."
Jason sighed. "Do all of them have it?"
"I'm still checking."
After a few minutes, she sighed as well. "It would appear they all have it."
Jason dropped his head, then lifted it again. He turned back to Owens and Paris. He looked again at the fact that they were wet. "Well, now you know what you've missed. The question is, have we missed anything?" he asked, looking them over.

Garys face got red. "Well, sir... Yes you did, and no you didn't. You see it's like this. There's a pond just outside the settlement. She jumped in, I fell in, I turned my back, we got out, she's clean and I'm rather uncomfortable right now." He explained, hardly making sense of his embarassed stammer.
He felt like a kid getting cought swiping a cookie. But then, there was Angel, still holding his hand. If he didn't gain some composure really soon, He'd be sitting alone at McKluskeys. He was sure of it.
"Nothing happened Sir. We went there for different reasons. She thought she was alone, and so did I. She surprised me that's all."

S'reena glanced at Yrdis when she suddenly felt a wave of dizziness come over her. She knew she'd gone back on duty too soon, even though she'd been eager to get out of sickbay. "I'll be right back," she told the counselor, "I'm going to sickbay to get something for my upset stomach and balance problem."
At Yrdis' nod, she left the bridge. ~odd that I'm asking the counselor, whom I outrank, permission to leave the bridge~ she thought, and grimaced. She was not at all feeling well, and she just made it to sickbay.
"Doctor, I'm going to need something against dizziness," she said as soon as she found Illito, "I'm needed on the bridge but I can't do my job if I keep seeing things double." Then she spotted Anderson lying on a bed, sleeping rather peacefully. "Is she all right?" S'reena asked, as she walked over to the young science officer.
S'reena shook Anderson lightly. "Ms Anderson, where is Mr Hawking?" she asked, for the COO had not reported back to the bridge, "what happened in the shuttle?"
posted for Anderson:
Waking up a little frighten she noticed Commander Hope standing over her bed.
"I am not sure where he is, and thought he reported back, since he isn't here. Sorry I can't be of more help. How are things going?" She says rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
"Thing are going good," S'reena replied, "you go back to sleep and you'll be filled in when you wake up next."
"Okay, commander, see you later then, if and when I can return to duty." She says closing her eyes again.

“Doctor, I'm going to need something against dizziness,” Commander Hope requested, walking up to Illito. “I'm needed on the bridge but I can't do my job if I keep seeing things double.”
“I’ll get you something,” Illito replied.
“Is she all right?” S'reena asked, as she walked over to Anderson.
“She’s fine,” Illito absentmindedly replied, focusing on preparing a dose of meclizine for S’reena’s dizziness. “At the moment, all she could use is sleep,” Illito replied to the question about Anderson, half-turning back towards S’reena with the medicine. She was just in time to see Commander Hope wake Anderson. She wondered briefly why no one ever seemed to pay any attention to her medical advice.
“Ms Anderson, where is Mr Hawking?” S’reena asked, which, at least according to Illito, was a question that could have waited for Anderson to regain consciousness on her own. “What happened in the shuttle?” S’reena continued.
“I am not sure where he is, and thought he reported back, since he isn't here. Sorry I can't be of more help. How are things going?” Anderson responded, waking up.
“Thing are going good,” S'reena replied, “you go back to sleep and you'll be filled in when you wake up next.”
“Okay, commander, see you later then, if and when I can return to duty.” Anderson replied, closing her eyes again. Illito hoped that Joan was able to go back to sleep.
“Was that really necessary?” Illito asked Commander Hope after they had stepped away from the bed. It occurred to her that she may be out of line, but she also realized that she didn’t really care. She could hardly help people to heal if every time she turned around other people interfered. “Oh, and this should help counter your dizziness,” Illito continued, injecting S’reena.

[glow=red,2,300]Posted on Cadet Paris's behalf[/glow]
Owens and Paris came back aboard the aerowing. She realized that Owens was still very wet and her hair hadn’t dried yet either. Angel stood there listening intently to what the doctor was saying to Owens. After the doctor was done he asked if he had missed anything. Angel blushed and listened to Owens explanation, biting her lip trying hard not to laugh. She got a little flustered when she heard him embarrassed and stammering an explanation to the doctor. She thought with a little bit of pride, “I like Owens and the earlier situation still might be a bit embarrassing, but we shouldn’t have to explain ourselves, nothing serious happened.”
She looked down at her feet and saw that they were still holding hands and smiled remembering when she had taken his hand earlier. Just as she was about to let go of Owens hand he said, "Nothing happened Sir. We went there for different reasons. She thought she was alone, and so did I. She surprised me that's all."
She clasped his hand a little firmer hoping that he would realize that she still wanted to go to McKluskeys with him. She looked up at him and realized that he actually handled black’s interrogation of why they were wet well. She caught his eye and smiled, but realized that the doctor was looking at them both with a curious gaze upon his face. She turned her gaze back down to the floor hoping that the doctor didn’t see them holding hands because she liked holding his hand. She wondered what would happen next, and if they could go for a walk later and talk, but Angel decided that this wasn’t the best time to ask him to go for a walk later.

James awoke in a daze, seeing not but a blur of light. He shook his head vigourously, and scanned his surroundings. At the primary work control station, he saw the latest addition to the trainees, Gary Owens. Rye also noticed Ensign Milivojevic, and Lieutenant Hoang lying in a crumpled heap. He noticed that only one ensign was manning the engineering work stations, looking quite flustered.
James jumped up to his feet, and shocked the young man. “Ensign. What is the situation, and why are you the only one down here?”
”Sir, Cadet Owens, Commander Blayne, and a small group of Borg have gone to the Auxiliary Command Center. They have been trying to retake thee bridge.”
James got up, and scanned the ship for the locations of the remaining Maquis groups. He noted that there were several lifesigns on the bridge, but they all read as unconscious. Rye then tapped his combadge, and got in touch with Owens.
(=/\=) “Fitzpatrick to Owens.”
”Owens here, Commander, how are you feeling?”
”I’m fine, Cadet. What is your status?”
”Well, sir. Commander Blayne and myself have just finished retaking the bridge. Someone up here activated the Anesthezine defense systems, so I was able to cul through the door, and tie up the Maquis.”
”Very good, Cadet. Stay on the bridge, and help direct the damage control efforts, while I stay down here, and try to get the weapons back online. Good work, so far, mister.”
“Understood, Sir. Owens Out” (=/\=)
James now tended to his other engineers. First, he gave both Lieutenant Hoang, and Ensign Milivojevic a hypo to awake them, and he healed, to the best of his ability, the ensign’s back, which had suffered the brunt of the Maquis phaser blast. After a few minutes, both engineers were back on their feet, and helping with repairs. Rye dispatched Hoang to Forward Phaser Control on Deck 5, which he ran to, and Milivojevic was sent to Deck 9 to repair the damage done to the torpedo launcher. She also grabbed a phaser to ward off any stray Maquis.
James now focused his attention on the primary power distribution network, that was not directing enough power to the weapons that would be required if the got into another battle. Once he’d crawled through the Jeffries tubes to the damaged area, and found the faulty node. He replaced it with a new one, and scanned the flow to make sure the new unit was functioning correctly, which it was.
Feeling satisfied, he returned to engineering to see the progress of the other damage control teams. He noted, that in the hour that they had all been gone, considerable progress had been made to getting weapons online, and in fact were very close to being initialized. James waited a few more minutes, and finally, all systems showed green, and ready to be powered up. Rye went over to the power control monitor, and began sending power back to the weapons systems.
A short while later, Commander Hope came in, looking somewhat better than she had in recent days, and asked if James needed any help. James denied the request, but appreciated the offer.

"Well it's not really any of my business, now is it? Just remember you two are currently on duty." He looked back over at the equipment, then back to them. "However, we aren't particularly busy at present, so you two are free to do what you wish. I'll let you know if I need you for anything. Consider yourselves on temporary shoreleave." They smiled at that.
He then turned back to his work, and continuing studying the blood samples. For some reason, part of him felt like if he just stared at the data long enough, the answer would just come to him. But that wasn't working so well.
About ten minutes later, Rachel called his attention. "Jason, I think you'd better take a look at this." She reached over, and activated the screen. Jason saw copies of the virus coming to life, attacking the blood cells.
Jason was concerned at the sight of this. "Which sample is this?"
"It's from one of the drones Cadet Owens noted as healthy." She brought up a scan of the region, and highlighted the corresponding drone.
"I'm going after him," Jason said, then turned and left the Shuttle quickly. He jogged to the location of the drone, nearly running. He needed to get to it.
When he arrived, he saw the drone, and all of those around it, on the ground, struggling to get back up. He scanned the drone he was after. The scan revealed the beginning stages of motor paralysis. He quickly ordered the computer to beam him and the drone back to Sickbay.
After they lifted him up onto the table, Jason scanned him. The problem was accelerating. Jason tried to irradiate the virus, but to no avail.
After a few minutes, Rachel spoke again. "Looks like it just got worse." Jason looked up, and saw she again had a visual up. The virus was replicating itself now, even without the help of host cells.
"I don't understand. How could it replicate itself like that?"
Rachel checked the data. "Because it's mutating."
Jason studied the data again. He then came to a startling discovery. "Oh no....I just discovered what's causing the mutation....It's the EM fields the virus is being exposed to!"
"Let's shut everything down then," Rachel said, shutting down scanning equipment.
Jason grabbed her arm to stop her. "We're not the only thing generating the EM fields. The cybernetic implants within the drone are emitting EM fields as well. There's no way to stop this. Anything we try, the virus will mutate and we'll be back at square one."
"So theres nothing we can do?"
Jason shook his head. "No."
Rachel leaned the wall and slid down it in sorrow. Jason sat on the edge of a biobed, almost depressed. He tapped his comm-badge.
=/\= Black to Commander Blayne. I am sorry to report that there is nothing I can do for the condition the Borg are currently in. There's no way I can save them. Whoever designed the virus that's affected them...certainly knew what they were doing =/\=

S'reena arrived back on the bridge just in time to hear Black's report and she couldn't help but feel sorrow for the Borg colony. If there was nothing they could do, medically, they were doomed to die.
Then she hurried over to Blayne. "Doctor, you say this is a cybernetic virus, is there nothing engineering can do for them? Borg are flesh and blood, but also mechanic...where conventional medicine fails, perhaps engineering can kick in? Have cadet Owens have a look at them. As soon as the warp engines are repaird I'll send Rio down to assist if needed."
Hope flared in her eyes as she locked gaze with Blayne. "I could work, couldn't it?" she asked him. "Doctor, I am sending down Franklin also and if she feels better, Anderson. Perhaps they can assist also, in the mean time, do what you can for them."
She turned back to Blayne after they had terminated the conversation. "I've just been to sickbay. Ms Anderson is doing better, but Cadet Tintagel says she should sleep a lot. Captain Marcell seems to be doing better though, Cadet Zoë is with him, and he seems to be enjoying Yarna's company now. I think if he continues like this we ought to let him return to the bridge, and let him feel that he still has something to live for, that everything wasn't lost on him. What do you think?"
S'reena was no counselor, and even though she'd had her share of (compulsary) conversations with them neither did she claim to know what was best for someone. However, in the case of the captain, she did know. She had been there in his position herself once, though for different reasons, and she knew what he was thinking too.

OOC Sorry that I haven't posted for a few days. I have been having trouble finding the time for the last few days.
YrDis was becoming quite tired of command. It just wasn't something that he cared to do during an actual crisis. He knew that he might be asked to command on occasion, but had always assumed that it would be the occasional night watch or baby sitting the ship through a drydock or some other minor problem. He had been in command for several hours now, through a battle and several repair emergencies and the strain was beginning to show.
Commander Hope, who had excused herself to go to Sickbay, had just returned and asked him about whether or not Captain Marcell should be allowed to return to the bridge.
"S'Reena, are you feeling any better?" he said to Commander Hope in response. She turned back to him and nodded. "Good. I would prefer if you take command of the ship. I need to assess Captain Marcell for myself. Cadet Zoe seems to be shaping into an excellent counsellor, but it's still my job to decide what he's allowed to do right now. Please take the command chair and I will head down to Sickbay and examine Marcell."
Commander Hope nodded and quickly sat down in the chair that YrDis vacated, while the counsellor stepped onto the turbolift.

“Commander.” Illito looked up from Anderson to greet the counselor as he entered sickbay. “Cadet Zoë is by Captain Marcell, I don’t think she’s left his side in a while .” Illito wasn’t sure if she approved or disapproved of Zoë’s devotion. While she wasn’t sure that the Captain deserved it, she would be willing to admit that she didn’t really know very much about his motivations. At this point, it didn’t seem like anyone did. Besides, no matter what kind of person Marcell was, Zoë had an obligation to try to help him.
“I don’t think that there is anything that I can help you with at the moment, but if there is, just ask.” Illito offered. She wanted to help Captain Marcell, but she also wanted to stay as far away from him as possible. She didn’t think that she would be a positive influence in his healing process.
Blayne nodded at Illito and headed towards Captain Marcell’s bed. Illito could see that he was telling something to Zoë, but he spoke too quietly for Illito to be able to tell what he was saying.
Illito glanced down at Anderson, who was still sleeping. Her bones seemed to be healing well, and Anderson didn’t seem to require any help at the moment. Illito walked cautiously towards Captain Marcell’s bed, trying to see if there was anyway that she would be able to be of assistance.

YrDis quietly walked over to Cadet Zoe after finishing his coversation with Illito. The counselling cadet was sitting in a chair beside Captain Marcell. She noticed him walking towards her and smiled tiredly. "Hello. How are you doing?" she inquired.
"I'm alright cadet. How are you?" Zoe shrugged and turned towards Marcell.
"He's been sleeping for a while. His dopamine and serotonin levels are fairly low, but his adrenaline is high. It's like his body is at war with itself" she reported.
YrDis stared down at Captain Marcell. With those chemicals low in his system, it wasn't surprising that the man was sleeping. He turned to Cadet Zoe. "This would be a standard reaction if the Captain has been agitated for quite some time, much longer than he has been showing outwardly. His systems have been over producing dopamine and serotonin, and now the levels have fallen extremely low to compensate. What is the standard for treating this problem, Cadet?"
Zoe glanced over at him with a troubled look. "Standard procedure dictates a course of injections of methylphenlamine to return the chemical imbalances to normal." YrDis nodded in response, but Zoe went on. "Sir, hasn't his system been through enough?"
YrDis sighed inwardly. He had never been a proponent of pumping patients full of chemicals, preferring a more subtle approach to rehabilitation. Sometimes it was too bad he and Zoe agreed about so many things. "Yes, I think so cadet. I'd prefer a different approach. You're latest report said that Marcell was calmer since the his fantasy 'killing' of Commander Hope. I think that for now, we should move him out of Sickbay and to his quarters, to place him in a situation where he is surrounded by things familiar to him. What do you think?"
<Cadet Zoe>
YrDis nodded, then turned and called Cadet Illito over. "Doctor, I would like your permission to move Captain Marcell to his quarters. I will try to address any concerns that you have. Do you have any objections?"
<Cadet Illito>

Zoë was tired. She had spent hours keeping track of levels, and trying to keep the Captain oriented. He seemed to be doing a lot better now, he was resting and seemingly peacefully and that was something in and of itself. Then she saw Commander Blayne walkign towards her. It was a relief to see him.
"Hello. How are you doing?" she inquired.
"I'm alright cadet. How are you?" he responded, Zoë was too tired to answer and so just shrugged and turned her eyes back to the bed and gave Commander Blayne a status report.
"He's been sleeping for a while. His dopamine and serotonin levels are fairly low, but his adrenaline is high. It's like his body is at war with itself" she reported.
She saw Commander Blayne loook down at the sleeping Captain "This would be a standard reaction if the Captain has been agitated for quite some time, much longer than he has been showing outwardly. His systems have been over producing dopamine and serotonin, and now the levels have fallen extremely low to compensate. What is the standard for treating this problem, Cadet?"
Zoe glanced over at him with a troubled look, she didn't like this idea at all "Standard procedure dictates a course of injections of methylphenlamine to return the chemical imbalances to normal." YrDis nodded in response, but Zoe went on. "Sir, hasn't his system been through enough?"
Zoë smiled "I think that is a excellent idea, sir" she responded. she felt that was exactly what the Captain needed. She saw Commander Blayne turn to Cadet Tintagel and speak with her. She knew the Cadet had been giving her looks because she had barely moved for hours, but Zoë was determined to help the Captain whatever it took. This was why she had become a Counselor. She glanced at the sleeping child next to the Captain, the XO's daughter was still there. Zoë hadn't felt the need to move her she seemed to calm the child down.
"Cadet?" she asked as she turned to Tintagel "Would you mind keeping an eye on the XO's daughter as welll for me? You seem to have a good rapport with her. I'll let the Commander know where she is." While Commander Blayne and Tintagel were talking Zoë stepped to the side and called Commander Hope
<Cadet Tintagel>
"Commander Hope? This is Cadet Zoë. We are going to be moving the Captain fairly soon, ma'me, to his own quarters, he should be ready to come back to partial duty very soon. I have left your daughter with Cadet Tintagel and I think you should know I ran some tests and it does seem your daughter has some telepathic ability. If you'd like I can reccomend some excellent specialists to help her cope with her abilities. I think that is all for now. Unless there is something else you need, ma'me?"
<Commander Hope>
"Thank you, ma'me. Cadet Zoë out"
She then walked over to where Tintagel and Commander Blayne were and told the Commander
"I gave Commander Hope a report, sir. " she told him
"Very well Cadet. Let's get the Captain moved." Zoë nodded and moved to help in any way she could. Once they were settled in the Captain's quarters she gave the Commander the full run-down of what happened in the Sickbay, the attack, the XO's daughter's abilities, and her own finding of a child on the planet, and finding out about the Captain's sister.
"It all seems to be going alright. Anderson and Tintagel have come to an understanding, as have her and I. The XO's daughter will be helepd with her abilities I am sure, the Captain seems on the mend, and I think..I think..I'd like to adopt the boy. All my tries to find his parents have failed..I think until he finds a better home..." she paused "I think that's everything sir? Is there something I've missed?" she was so tired right now. It seemed like she would be missing something.

Owens couldn't help but overhearing, and stopped on his way back out the door. EM fields... Nanites... Mechanical stuff... He remembered something he read at the academy about an incident on Enerprise-D.
"Sir, you say the electromagnetic fields are causing positive mutations in the virii (plural virus Did I get it right? if not, i'll edit), what if we reverse the power flow in the nanites, from positive to negative, and reverse the em field to repel them? As Laforge would say, thereby souring the milk?" He looked hopefully at Dr. Black.

“Doctor, I would like your permission to move Captain Marcell to his quarters. I will try to address any concerns that you have. Do you have any objections?” Commander Blayne asked Illito as she neared him, Captain Marcell, and Zoë.
“That shouldn’t be a problem,” Illito replied, considering. “There’s not very much that can be done here that a simple medical kit wouldn’t be able to take care of,” Illito continued, glancing at the readings that affirmed her judgment. “Though his dopamine and serotonin levels seem rather low. And it may do more harm than good to try to move him. I imagine that waking up in a different place than where you fell asleep might be rather disorienting and alarming.”
<Commander Blayne>
“That should be okay then.” Illito nodded.
“Cadet?” Zoë asked as she turned to Illito. “Would you mind keeping an eye on the XO's daughter as welll for me? You seem to have a good rapport with her. I'll let the Commander know where she is.”
“Sure,” Illito answered, taking Yarna. After Blayne and Zoë had left with Captain Marcell, Yarna started to cry. Illito tried to soothe Commander Hope’s daughter, but she didn’t really have that much experience in that sort of thing. Illito could sing Yarna a lullaby, but she didn’t know any. And it appeared that Yarna’s crying had woken up Anderson.
Illito sighed, and took Yarna, still crying, with her to check on Anderson. “How are you feeling?” Illito greeted Anderson. “Want to try to comfort Yarna?” Illito handed Yarna to Anderson, trying to distract Anderson while Illito scanned her.
“You are healing well,” Illito said, trying to be comforting.
“It’s boring though,” Anderson replied.
“Well, then maybe you can help me with something.” Illito gestured to Yarna, whose cries, though softer, still continued. “Do you have any suggestions?”
“Maybe if you took her to see Dr. Hope? Or the Commander?” Anderson suggested.
“Thank you. I think that I will take Yarna to the bridge with Commander Hope,” Illito decided, nodding. “I don’t want Kahlan to be distressed by her sister. Besides, I have to check to see how Commander Hope is doing. I think that it would be good,” Illito suggested, “If you went back to sleep, but at this point you don’t have to. You do, however, have to stay off duty and in sickbay, for at least a little while longer.”
Arriving on the bridge, Illito noticed that the walk and the quiet humming of the turbolift seemed to have helped Yarna; she was no longer crying. “Commander Hope,” Illito said, walking up to her. “Did the medication I gave you help?”

(OOC: Gary, actually the correct plural form is viruses. And also, it's just a single virus we are dealing with, even with the mutations. Copies of the virus is the term for the individual parts of the virus)
"Sir, you say the electromagnetic fields are causing positive mutations in the virii, what if we reverse the power flow in the nanites, from positive to negative, and reverse the em field to repel them? As Laforge would say, thereby souring the milk?"
"I know what incident you are refering to Cadet, as it is now studied in Exobiology 101 at Starfleet Academy. However, such an idea is not applicable in this case. You see, the power isn't what is causing the virus to mutate, but rather the electromagnetic emissions being given off by the drones' cybernetic components. We cannot alter those emissions, as they are directly connected to the workings of the implants. Good suggestion though."
Rachel sighed. "So there really is nothing we can do?"
Jason shook his head. "Unfortunately not. A better equipped team, such as a Hospital ship, would have the resources necessary to carry out such a relief effort, and also have the personnel and equipment to mount the research effort that it would take to combat this virus. For now, we will depart. Cadet Paris, please prepare to lift-off to take us back to the Hanson. Rachel, prepare to beam the Borg we have back to its fellows. I must go and see the Borg to explain this to them."
Jason left the shuttle mournfully. He didn't like having to give up on a patient, particularly a large group of them. But he just didnt have the tools to cure them.
He walked up to them. He sighed, then began. "I am sorry to report that there is nothing I can do for you or your comrades. We will, however, send a hospital ship that will be better equipped to help and hopefully cure you." He tapped his comm-badge. "Black to Mitchell, energize." The drone-patient materialized.
One drone stepped forward. "We thank you for your assistance."
Jason nodded, then left. He returned to the ship, where Paris turned in the pilot's chair. "We're ready to lift off, Doctor."
Jason sat down in a passenger chair. "Then by all means, please do so."
They lifted off, and about half an hour later, dockly safely back with the Hanson.
He turned to Owens and Paris. "Thank you both for your assistance on this away mission. You may return to your normal duty stations now."
They both got up and headed off the shuttle. Jason turned to Mitchell. "Rachel, would you see to it that the equipment is returned to its proper location?"
Rachel nodded. "Certainly, Doctor. Are you alright?"
"I will be, in time." He left the shuttle and headed back towards Sickbay.
