YrDis and Sarlina were going over patient medical reports, trying to come up with a good strategy to continue their treatment. The majority of them were responding well to the nanoprobes and immunosuppressants, and YrDis thought that things were finally getting under control. He looked up at Cadet BeTor walked into the room. Her face looked like a thundercloud. Through the door she had just walked through, the counsellor could see Cadet Damion with a similar expression. He had overheard their exchange, and wasn't pleased. Either at Damion for his thoughtless remark or BeTor for her reaction to it. Such things tended to feed on one another and get out of control. He made a mental note to record these things in his report. He was thinking about saying something when his comm badge chirped. =/\=Commander Blayne, could you meet Commander McCormick and I in main engineering please, I have an idea on this virus=/\=
"Acknowledged" he replied and made his way down.
Once there, he joined Jared, who was waving a scalpel around while he spoke. YrDis stared pointedly at the medical instrument until Jared realized he had it and put it away. The the cadet said 'Currently, the severed bridge systems are acting as a kind of electronic island, insulating the virus from the rest of the ship. We can remove it simply by injecting Commander Blayne's nanoprobes into the systems so they can remove it as they did with the biological patients and then generating an EM pulse on the bridge to disable the nanoprobes. The island will prevent the nanos from taking over the ship and the EM pulse will knock out any and I mean any electronic equipment on the bridge, including the nanos. Only then will it be safe to use the bridge again. Commander Blayne, can you inject them into the system yourself or do we need to process them first?
Blayned thought about the question for a moment. "I think that they will need to be processed to interact with ship systems. The nanoprobes that we have a specifically keyed ton interact with a biological host, not a mechanical one. I don't that will be too difficult though." Blayne accessed a console and started entering new specifications that would be required for altering the nanoprobes.

Jason was shocked by how strong of a response he had gotten from Jordan. It pained him for her to speak so negatively towards him, and he nearly physically took a step back. But after he thought for a moment, he realized the emotional distance was to put out of mind the 'encounter' they had had the night before.
He picked up a tricorder and scanned her. "Well, I find nothing wrong with you, however, I do not currently have the authority to assign you a task. Due to our "incident" I have been temporarily relieved of duty as Chief Medical Officer. You'll have to ask Cadet BeTor."
Just he said her name, E'Liana came back into the room. "Doctor Black, if you would, wake up Commander Hope. She should have recovered by now."
"Yes, Cadet," he said, and went over to S'reena. He injected her using a hypospray, and roused her from her unconscious state.
Slowly, and with a slight moan, she opened her eyes, and looked up at him, and started to push herself up ".....Doctor?"
"It's alright, Commander. You have been cured of the virus that was infecting you. I wouldn't get up too quickly though."
She soon discovered what he meant, and sank back down, closing her eyes. She moaned a bit louder, then opened them back up. "My children?" she asked, a concerned look in her eye.
Jason smiled. "They'll be just fine, Commander. Yarna has been purged, and Kahlan is on her way to being cured."
She sighed and smiled, closing her eyes.

Ensign Eduard Waters glanced back at the cadet. As it was, he was famished but first he had a report to bring to Commander Meri. This was a task that he wasn't exactly looking forward to, as he didn't like the Trill commander. However, it wasn't up to him whether he did or didn't like the night time XO; liking ought not to influence the efficiency with which he would carry out his duties.
Clutching his tricorder tightly, he found his way back to engineering, where Meri was still waiting and talking quietly to Commander Rio. For some reason, she actually looked pleased. Waters raised an eyebrow at that sight, as it was very difficult to please Meri and Waters knew this first hand, as he had served with Meri for years.
Meri locked eyes with the ensign she had sent after the navigations cadet. "Finished so soon?" she enquired, annoyed that the ensign had returned already.
"Yes ma'am," Waters replied, not in the least taken aback, "Mr Gonto was very efficient in his dealings. That and Commander Rio getting the computer online so swiftly did help."
Meri sighed. "Very well, dismissed ensign." With a wave of her hand, she dismissed the ensign and turned towards Rio. "Well done," she said, "I'm going to sickbay." She stiffled a yawn. "It's about time they wake the first officer up, so that she can take over from me." She cast a glare at the CEO, which told him that she would not appreciate a response to that statement. "I will be back on my next duty shift. Good day commander."
A few minutes later, Commander Dharma Meri entered sickbay, just in time to see Doctor Black wake the first officer up. Meri frowned as she watched the Romulan commander sink back to the bed, looking pale and extremely weak. ~and that is a proud Romulan~ Meri laughed to herself ~look at her~
Swiftly she walked over to the bed. "Ready for duty again?" she asked bluntly, ignoring both Black and BeTor who had just walked by, "cause I am ready to go back to bed."
S'reena sighed, and opened one eye to glare at the night time XO. She mustered a tired smile, and faught back an angry retort. "No commander," she finally managed, "I just woke up, and I am far from better. I sincerely doubt that I will be certified fit for duty."
Meri frowned. "Weakling," she finally hissed and turned her back on S'reena. Then she stalked over to BeTor. "I need Commander Hope certified fit for duty," she said bluntly, her spots standing out as anger built. "I am tired and I need sleep. Between the commander and myself, there is no-one eligible to take over."
Meri was a person who didn't like the notion of second officers and in her opinion only three people were fit to command the Hanson: Captain Tony Marcell, Commander S'reena Hope, and herself. She tapped her foot impatiently, as she waited for BeTor to respond.
When the cadet walked past her to go check on the half-breed children, Meri exploded and grabbed for the cadet's shoulder. "You insolent little...." she started, then bit back the rest of her response, quickly letting go of the part Klingon cadet. "I'm sorry," she said quickly, "I don't like to be ignored. Please answer my question."
<BeTor>
From her bed, S'reena watched the proceedings, feeling anger build inside. She watched the poor cadet being ranted at by the Trill woman, but there was nothing she could do about it. She felt extremely weak, and even trying to sit up caused the room to spin on it's own axis. However, she wouldn't let Meri get away with it this easily.
"Doctor, please call Captain Marcell," she whispered at Black, unable to even raise her voice. Her throat felt as dry as sandpaper, and she was grateful for the cup of water that was handed her. "Thank you," she said softly, as she lay back, watching how the cadet brilliantly handled the situation. A minute later, Black came back and told her that Marcell had been called. "Only one person can do something about that woman," S'reena whispered, as she lay back and closed her eyes again, "and that is Tony Marcell. I'll need to have a word with him about her."
She set the cup aside, and soon fell into a healthy sleep that would ensure her recovery.

E’Liana saw the Second in Command finally wake up. ~She looks a lot different to how she did a few hours ago when we had our…disagreement…~ Walking through from the Office, E’Liana was ‘introduced’ to Commander Meri. It was not a flattering first impression to say the least. The Cadet heard Meri call S’Reena a “weakling” before rounding upon E’Liana. "I need Commander Hope certified fit for duty," The other woman said bluntly, her spots standing out as anger built. "I am tired and I need sleep. Between the commander and myself, there is no-one eligible to take over." Deciding that the Trill was rather angry and needed to calm down, E’Liana prioritised her work and moved away from Meri so she would not get angry herself, and went to examine another patient. However, the Cadet heard the impatient foot-tapping of a rather irate woman, and despite herself felt some satisfaction at having caused such a response. The next thing BeTor knew, Meri had exploded with anger, and was grabbing her shoulder. "You insolent little...." she started, then bit back the rest of her response, quickly letting go of the part Klingon cadet. "I'm sorry," she said quickly, "I don't like to be ignored. Please answer my question." E’Liana felt her ridges flush with anger at being touched by such an irate woman. ~What is it with Trills and hostility towards me!?~ She thought, confused. ~First Damion and now her!~ Staring the other woman in the eye, E‘Liana enquired: “Insolent little what?….Just out of curiosity…” her eyes narrowing in anger. Suddenly, she remembered the disappointed look on Blayne’s face when she entered the Office after her confrontation with Damion and tried to calm down. She raised her hand and lifted the other woman’s hand off her shoulder. “I would appreciate it if you didn’t touch me…it’s a Klingon thing…” She took a step back. “And in answer to your question…’Commander’…I am afraid I cannot yet release Commander Hope. Although she has recovered physically - more or less - I cannot with good conscience release her for duty. She has been in this state for several hours and her body has been fighting off infection. She needs to rest, not to mention eat and see her family. I’m afraid you shall have to wait.” Commander Meri looked furious. “Are you disobeying me, Cadet?” E’Liana looked surprised. “Not at all, Commander…merely stating my medical opinion. If you wish to seek a second opinion, then please feel free although I fear my colleagues will come to the same conclusion.” E’Liana scanned the woman. “I can see that you are suffering from mild fatigue. I can give you something to help with the symptoms if you like, it will help you manage for a few more hours until the Commander is ready for duty. If not, then I’m afraid I must get back to my patient…” She turned to scan S’Reena… <Tag anyone brave enough >

After the explosion on the bridge, Tony had done his best to help the medical staff with the wounded. After a few hours a nurse had advised him to take a few hours rest. He followed her instructions obediently and almost immediately fell into slumber when he reached his quarters. Tony felt he had only been asleep for a few moments when his combadge chirped.
"Marcell here." He said tapping it.
"Commander S'reena is now awake and is requesting your presence in sickbay."
"Thank you, Doctor Black, I'll be there in a second. Marcell out." Standing up, he found he was still in his uniform. He didn't see the point in changing it now, so he just ran a comb through his hair and washed his face.
Before he could leave his quarters he got a message from Commander Rio, telling him that the main computer was back up, and thanks to the purging skills of Lt. Anders, Shikako Kedzie, Matthew Reynolds, and several others the ships key systems were up and running as well. A group was currently working on the deflector and technicians were working non-stop to get the replicators and panels working again.
The bridge was the only real problem and Reman Jared had proposed an idea for that.
Soon he stood in sickbay, not groomed to his usual standards, but presentable looking as anyone else was.
"S'reena." He said walking towards the womans biobed, "Dr. Black said you wanted to speak to me." He bent down so she wouldn't have to sit up to talk to him.
"It's Meri. Racial... slurs... insubordination... disrespect...." Were the only words he caught. Her voice was weak, quiet, and cracking. She looked bad, but at least she was awake.
<S'reena>
"Thank you, S'reena, I will deal with it." Tony put a hand on her shoulder. He didn't feel she should be wasting her strength speaking when she should be recovering.
"Cadet BeTor!" Tony said loudly. He would have shouted had he not been in sickbay with sleeping patients. The half Klingon medical cadet marched over, looking angry and frustrated. Well more angry if he was judging her Klingon side as the more dominant one.
"Captain." She growled at him.
"Please tell me what is going on. S'reena just said something about Lt. Cmdr. Meri being insubordinate and disrespectful."
<Cadet BeTor>
Tony nodded and bared his teeth in disgust at her words. "Anything else?" He saw E'liana's eye's dart past him and to a patient behind him, but she did not say anything, "Cadet?" She shook her head.
"Where is commander Meri?"
"Over there sir." E'liana pointed at the trill woman, who was issuing bossy orders to the Bolian technician who had been sent to repair the sickbay's lone replicator. Tony had seen many engineers repairing replicators. It seemed Rio had sent out many to get them back online.
"Lieutenant Commander Meri." He said to her. "Please join me in the doctor's office."
They walked into Blacks office and Tony closed the door.
"Are you here to relieve me, captain? I have been on duty for a number of-"
"No, I am not here to bloody relieve you, and I don't give a damn how many hours you've been on duty. You have lost yourself the right to serve this ship as a senior nighttime officer. I hereby relieve you of your responsibilities as nighttime XO, until further notice.
"What?! You have not right to do that! I was the senior officer on duty. No damn Klingon is going to tell me I can't have that Romulan relieve me! I was the senior officer! She can't refuse me!" Tony raised an eyebrow at her. The Klingon comment had been unbelievably stupid to say in his presence.
"Computer, please note in the ships log that Lieutenant Commander Dharma Meri is relieved of her duties on this vessel and revoke all her command codes."
"Dharma," He risked the chance of her anger at his using her first name, "Here's the deal. You will be attended sessions with Commander Blayne after this ordeal. If you refuse to take them, I will have you transfered off this ship. If you do complete the sessions with the counselor and he deems you fit to return, I will re-instate your position on the Hanson, understood?"
<Tag: "Meri">
That dealt with, Tony tapped his combadge, "Marcell to Jared. What's your plan cadet?"

By the time Marcell commed Jared, the science team had developed into something of a science posse as various members of the crew with expertise in the area and nothing else to do had gathered in Main Engineering. Even Yevar, the Bolian who had apparently collapsed into sleep after her ordeal had turned up again to help. She was currently leading a group of engineers on constructing an EMpulse device to be deployed on the bridge after the virus was eliminated.
Blayne, McCormick and Jared were clustered around Engineering's replicator, which was fortunately working, entering the designs for specially reconfigured nanoprobes based on YrDis's but designed for short term existence in a machine.
Even Ghost and a few security officers had been conscripted into the effort to help lug the sizable EMP device up to the bridge when it was finished. Currently they stood out of the way watching what was going on, entertained by the occasonal thunk or zap followed by a bout of swearing from one or other of the engineers around the EMP device as parts failed to connect or misfired.
=/\=Marcell to Jared. What's your plan cadet?=/\= =/\=Well sir, we are currently configuring some nanos to destroy the virus up close and personal and Yevar and some engineers are constructing an EMP device to deactivate the nanos once they've done their job. Depending on how long it takes for them to finish that, we could be rid of the virus very soon. The nanos won't take too long at all and the EMpulse is instantaneous. The longest time will be spent trying to reconnect the bridge to the rest of the ship, which may only be easily done back at starbase=/\=
<tag Marcell>
Jared wondered how they would manage to lift the EMP device into the bridge. After all, the turbolifts couldn't reach the bridge right now so they'd have to haul it up by rope. Transporter was just too dangerous, even if it was working by that time. The virus might be able to travel backwards along the transporter signal. Unlikely, but possible.
It was also risky going into the bridge where the virus was still trying to escape by infecting anyone nearby. If they went up there, they could guarantee a virual fireworks display. Biosuits it would be a good idea then. Jared made a note to suggest this to everyone else who was going onto the bridge, but it would be best to keep the numbers down to a minimum of about 6: Yevar to work the EMP device, himself and McCormick to administer the nanos and keep track of the virus and three of the security team to help move the device onto the bridge and then into position in the centre.

Upon hearing that Matt got a mere two hours of sleep, Kedzie stared at him, worried that he was not taking his health seriously enough. However, he told her he was fine, and then said that he went to see Yarna. Kedzie smiled then, noticing how Matt seemed to brighten when he mentioned Commander Hope’s daughter.
Kedzie was also surprised that Commander Ford answered her question, she had thought that he had been placed in sickbay. He assured her that he had recovered, and watched the three Starfleet officers, waiting for them to finish their discussion. Kedzie got the impression that he might be waiting for quite a while, especially since Commander Blayne moved to one of the consoles and started to work on something.
“Do you have the slightest idea why the counselor would be needed?” Kedzie asked Matt quietly. “Or how long these systems are going to take to be purged?” she asked with a grin. “It just seems like, although we have many of the major systems fixed, there are still a lot left. The problem is, I don’t really see the point in a lot of them. Some of them I’ve never even heard of,” she admitted, remembering how she had felt more useful when she had known what her work was doing.

After Kedzie plea for this to be over, Matt felt reenergized. He hated purging the systems, but he was almost done. Thank God Matt thought. After about another hour of purging, Matt anounced to Engineering.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, I'd like to announce that this dammed virus is gone for ever." The entire room exploded in applause and cheers. It seemed that about fifteen poeple had been working on purging the ship, and the others were the engineering crew.
"Hey Kedzie, were finally done," Matt said with a huge smile on his face. Kedzie then came next to him and sat down. Matt thinking that it was a good idea and sat nexted to her. No one said nothing, they also wanted to sit and do nothing. Matt thought that if anyone asked why there were sitting he would say
"Because I'm a cadet and my friend here is a Civilian." That thought brought a smile to his face and he just continued to sit there.

After hearing the heated debate by Commander Meri , Damion watched with curiosity and guilt as he realized how hard people were being on BeTor , including himself. The captain entered and spoke with S'Reena for a moment before barking orders for the only other Klingon Damion had seen on board to join him.
When she explained to him about the trouble aimed at her Marcell had his back to Damion , when asked if she had had any more "trouble" E'Liana BeTor shot an accusing glance at Damion.
He was waiting for the crime and punishment to be explained by both , he knew his behavior was unacceptable and that he deserved a court Marshall , so he waited for it.
To his surprise she didn't point the finger , she didn't ruin his day today. He felt relief and guilt at the same time. when the captain left with his night shift commander Damion called BeTor over. "What do you want now" she growled at him
"I'm sorry , for how i behaved , i have no excuse and i don't expect you to understand but i wanna say I'm sorry and that i appreciate everything you have done here in the last 48 hours" there was a look of surprise on her face.
"I have acted like a jerk and , if i can ever make it up to you , please let me know"

Blayne was huddled over an engineering console, working on a redesign of the Borg nanoprobes, but he still overheard Kedzie talking to Matt questioning why he was there. "I'm here because I was recently injected with Borg nanoprobes, and they have helped me overcome my infection to this virus. Since I was injected, I've become a bit of an expert on them."
He could see that the cadets had become a little nervous to find out that there were standing beside someone who could have technically been classified as a Borg not long ago. "It's alright cadets. I wasn't injected with the type on nanoprobes that transform someone into a Borg. It was done so that I could communicate with an independent Borg Collective that we were in contact with on our last mission."
The cadets still looked a little confused, but at least seemed slightly reassured. "What I'm attempting to do right now is to modify the nanoprobes that helped me overcome the virus so that they will successfully interact with the ships systems and be able to search out and destroy the virus. Once that's accomplished, cadet Jared will use the EMP generator to get rid of the nanoprobes. I realize that you are both Ops cadets, but doo either of you have any experience in nanotechnology design?"
<Matt, Kedzie>
The two of them glanced down at the console that he was working on, and Blayne looked over at Jared and his team. It looked like the EMP Generator was ready to go, but Reman was looking doubtfully at the door to Engineering and Blayne understood the problem, how were they going to get to the bridge?
"Cadet Jared. I can see it's going to be difficult to get that thing to the bridge. Do you recall your zero gravity training?" Blayne called.
"Yes sir" Jared said warily.
"Cargo bay 2 is on this deck and has doors that access space. It might save some time and effort if you and a team took the generator through the doors and moved it outside the ship. You can bring it in through shuttle bay one, which will put you on Deck 2. What do you think?" Blayne inquired.

Ensign Johnson was finishing his meal and told Cadet Gonto, "Well, I think that I am going to go back to engineering and see if they need any help." Travor replied, "Hmmm....That sounds like a plan."
They both walked back to engineering after recycling their dishes. Walking in they foind Jared, Kedzie, and Blayne standing around a console discussing something. Ensign Johnson went off to do what engineers do, and Travor walked up to the group.
"Hey guys," Travor said, "Doing anything a Navigations Cadet can help with, even if its just grunt labor?" Thinking to himself I hope i didn't volunteer for anything to hard or dangerous

Matt didn't think that he would to bring his expertise about the borg into this mission. Matt had worked with his parents and brothers on studying the borg. Matt had worked with nanotechnology, but didn't know how to design it.
"I have worked with it before, but I don't know how to design it," Matt said to Commander Blayne. Kedzie didn't say anythind walked away, which Matt did to.
Then Cadet Gronto walked into Engineering, Matt hadn't met him personally yet, but thought he was a good person.
"Is there anything I can do?" Gronto asked. Matt gave Kedzie a mischievous smile, and then said.
"Well the plasma manifolds need some good cleaning," Matt said.
"They haven't been cleaned in months," Kedzie said smiling.
"Okay," Travor said as he went to get the materials needed. Matt didn't think he was going to do it, but when he saw that Travor was going to do it he hurried to catch up with him.
"Hey Trabor, we were just joking," Matt said he and Kedzie started lauging.

From her bed, S'reena had a good look at he doctor's office, and she gave a satisfied smile when she saw Tony deal with the insubordinate chief of the night watch. She turned her head and gazed at the ceiling, wondering if anyone had ever bothered counting the screws that held the plating against the ceiling. Since she had nothing much better to do, she started counting, and at last the rhythm of counting the screws lulled her into an easy sleep.
From aside, Michael was looking pleased. He was still enjoying his little break but for emergencies he was quite available. He placed one hand on Black's arm as the CMO walked past, while he held Kahlan to his chest with the other. "Thank you," he said softly and the emotion in his eyes showed that he meant it. "Meet me in an hour, then we shall evaluate your return to duty."
<Black>
Meanwhile in he office, Meri stood gaping at Marcell, her flace flushing bright red, making her spots stand out even more. "What, lay out my private life before that git?" she retorted, "never."
She fell silent when her glare met that of the Klingon commanding officer, and she was taken aback by the ferocity of his grimace. Tony Marcell stood before her, teeth bared in anger, his eyes as cold as ice. Meri didn't want to be transferred to another ship, nor did she want to lose her position as night time first officer. She preferred the quiet of the grave-yard shift, where there would be very little people on the bridge. Having to fill in for the regular first officer grated her, as there were just too many people.
"Very well," she sighed at last, "but I am not going to apollogize to anyone. I shouldn't be on duty right now." Then it dawned on her what Marcell had just sentenced her to and her eyes widened. "You wouldn't....." she managed, paling visible. With that, she turned her back on him and left sickbay to return to the quietness of her quarters.
Michael saw Tony leave the office, and he intercepted him before he could leave sickbay. "I heard the virus is gone from our systems," he said, looking up at the captain questioningly, "and all the patients are recovering." Now, he smiled brightly, and the happiness he was feeling showed in his eyes.
The assistant CMO gave the captain a very quick and brief hug, his face flushing a darker shade of pink as he realised what he'd just done. "I'm sorry sir, I'm just so happy. My children and my wife are getting better, especially my youngest, who's been on the brink of death only a mere couple of hours ago."

'Thank you, Commander' Jared replied, grateful for the added assistance. 'I've already found a few security personnel to assist carrying it up to the bridge. Taking it outside will be easier, but lifting it onto the bridge will be the hardest part with the turbolifts not going that high.'
At that moment, Yevar announced that her group had finished the EMP device. It was the size of a large pirate chest or similar with the middle taken up with glowing pipes.
'Well, we better kit up and start moving this' Jared said. 'Everyone who's carrying this thing needs to be in spacesuits', Commander Ford announced.
In the end, Ghost, two security officers and Commander Ford were suited up to carry it, Jared was also suited up but mainly to make sure that the doors were open on the outside. Somehow he hadn't been considered as someone who could actually carry it. A few other security personnel helped them carry it into the cargo bay they were going to carry it out of. When all the non-spacesuited personnel were clear of the cargo bay, Commander Ford ordered the bay doors open.
'Cadet, open those doors' he instructed Jared opened those doors, as instructed. 'Right men, one, two ,three, lift', he told the fours security lifters 'it's time for a walk on the side of the ship'
The 5 walked out of the door in the most unsettling way possible; out the door, down the hull slightly, then around the hole in the floor that the cargo bay doors had now become. The stars floated overhead in their stoic way as they did whether good times or bad times came. What things the stars had seen and would go on shining through in the future. They moved with one man standing on each side and holding the device in place between them with their hands and a rope tied around the sides so the whole thing looked rather like a large ans sinister present.
After a weightless and awkwardly moving while, the quinqumvirate reached the entrance to shuttlebay one. Jared commed McCormick who was waiting on the other side for them to arrive. She opened the door from the shuttlebay control room and they entered, the machine growing heavier with each step as gravity came back into effect.
The doors closed and the atmosphere restablished itself. Commander Ford took off his helmet. 'That was fun, wasn't it?' he asked the group.
Now came the hard part. The five were met by the group that had escorted them to cargo bay two and between them they shifted the device to the lifeless turbolift shaft. Commander Blayne had a box of nanos; it was essentially like a battery with the nanos housed in the machine fluid inside and space to wire the ship's computer into it.
'Commander, I don't think you should come onto the bridge with us' Jared said. 'If anything happens then we might need your expertise again, if you're down then it's no good at all' Blayne considered this. 'Very well then' he replied and handed Jared the box of nanos.
Ghost had organised by now several security men in biosuits to climb onto the bridge using the turbolift shaft and they now passed ropes down which were tied aroud the ones already securing the device. McCormick had made sure there were biosuits for the others going onto the bridge already waiting for them and they slipped them on and assisted in lifting the device from the bottom while the men at the top hauled it up on the ropes. Eventually it was up there and Yevar, Jared and McCormick followed it up.
As they moved onto the bridge, the consoles began sparking and fizzing as the virus attempted to possess another crewmember. However, the biosuits rendered them impervious and the virus's efforts were in vain. Once the device was in the centre of the bridge, Ghost took his team of haulers back down to the deck below. Yevar took her station beside the device, Jared twisted a bare wire around a contact on the top of the box and prepared to open the pathway with the switch on the top and McCormick opened her tricorder and shouted down to Blayne. 'Commander, can you comm the Captain and ask him if we're ok to proceed?' =/\=Captain, are we good to go?=/\=

“I don’t know anything about nanotechnology,” Kedzie answered Commander Blayne, relieved that someone had told her what was going on, and at least given her the chance to help.
“Hey guys,” Cadet Gonto said, “Doing anything a Navigations Cadet can help with, even if its just grunt labor,” Kedzie glanced at Travor, not believing that he had really just said that, especially to herself and Matt. Matt smiled mischievously at her, and she nodded slightly back at him. Neither of them meant any harm, and they couldn’t imagine that Travor would actually follow thei rorders, especially when neither of them were doing any work.
“Well the plasma manifolds need some good cleaning,” Matt said.
“They haven't been cleaned in months,” Kedzie said smiling, trying to cover up her inner dismay. She wasn’t even sure what plasma manifolds were, and she couldn’t think why they would need cleaning. Kedzie resolved to look them up, maybe she could find a data pad, or a collection of them, that would give that sort of information. After all, chances were high that she would need it, and she preferred to plan ahead than to hope that there would happen to be someone else around who knew the necessary information and didn’t mind explaining it to her.
“Okay,” Travor said, interrupting her train of thought, thankfully, but also unnerving her. It seemed like the Cadet was actually going through with it. She glanced at Matt hurriedly, then they both went after Travor.
“Hey Travor, we were just joking,” Matt said, and Kedzie started to laugh, before she glanced at Travor and saw that he looked fairly upset.
“I’m sorry about that,” she apologized. “Matt and I weren’t actually doing anything, except sitting on the ground and explaining how we really aren’t much of a help at all. I don’t suppose you know anything about designing…” Kedzie trailed off, she couldn’t remember what Blayne had said, except that it had to do with Borg.
“Designing nanotechnology,” Matt completed, and Kedzie smiled at him gratefully.
“Right, that sounds familiar,” she continued. “So unless you know something about that, in which case you can talk to Commander Blayne, I haven’t really noticed anything important for us to do. Although if you want, I supposed that it probably has been a while since the plasma manifolds were cleaned.” Kedzie smiled at Travor to show that she was joking, whatever plasma manifolds were, cleaning them didn’t sound very enjoyable, or at all like it would fall under Navigations.

Blayne watched as the team carried the heavy piece of equipment out the door. It seemed that he needed to get moving as far as retrofitting the nanoprobes to interact with the Hanson's computers. It was a tricky business, fooling around with nanoprobes. If he made their programming too agressive, they would take over the ship and they would have a new problem. If he made the programming too passive, the virus would probably eat them for dinner.
Either way, he only had a few more minutes to do what he needed. He was making progress though. Finally, he completed the final algorithm and ran the final creation process. Turning, he picked up a constraint unit he had grabbed from stores and put it up against the emitter. A few more seconds and the unit beeped quietly. It was keeping the nanoprobes in stasis for now. They wouldn't be activated until they were inserted into the Hanson' computer systems.
Blayne turned and walked out of Engineering. All he had to do now was climb up 13 decks. 13...long...decks. It was too bad he hadn't finished a bit faster or he could have sent the nanoprobes with Cadet Jared. Sighing, he climbed into the Jeffries tube and began the ascent.
A while later, a tired counsellor stepped out of the Jeffries tube, onto Deck 2 and walked as quickly as possible to the Shuttlebay, which out of necessity wasn't very fast. Surprisingly, he had beaten the team up though. He handed the containment unit to Reman and stood aside as they completed the move to the bridge. Jared recommended that he stay behind, which wasn't such a bad idea.
After a few more minutes, Reman called down asking that Blayne get in contact with the captain to see if it was alright to proceed. Blayne complied and waited for the captain to respond.

Jason smiled back at Michael as his colleague expressed his gratitude. "It was my pleasure, Michael. I took special interest in healing Kahlan for a personal reason. You see, my younger sister was just a little older than Kahlan is now when she fell from that tree and died. After watching her suffer, unable to do anything to save her, I couldn't just stand by and watch Kahlan die without doing anything. However, I by no means deserve even the majority of the credit. Cadet BeTor and Commander Blayne deserve that. As for my evaluation, I hope that goes well."
All of a sudden the door to Sickbay came in, and a crewman lurched, almost doubled over and clutching his stomach. "Doctor!"
"Uh-oh. I thought things were settling down now," Jason said, picking up a tricorder and coming over. "Over here, Crewman," he said as he assisted him onto the biobed. "Now, what's wrong," he said, scanning him.
"My...chest....burning...feels tight..." he forced out, rubbing his chest and stomach.
"Looks like you've got an acute case of pyrosis, crewman," he said, after he scanned his chest.
"Am I going to be ok? What's going to happen to me? An acute case of what?" he asked, nervously.
"Heartburn," Michael said, coming over. "I'll get some antacid for you," he said, and went over to the supplies.
"Did you just come from the Mess Hall, crewman?" Jason asked, looking at him.
He nodded. "Guess I couldn't handle the spice like I thought. Hope the replicators are fixed soon."
"Don't we all," Jason said as Michael returned with the antacid.
*******************************************************************
An hour later found Jason facing Michael in his Office, on the opposite side of the desk from usual.
"So, when do I get to return to duty?" he tenatively asked of his usually-subordinate colleague.

"Cadet BeTor!" Tony said loudly.
~Now what? What's he taking that tone for?~ E'Liana thought, irritated. ~I'm TRYING to work here....~
"Captain." She growled at him.
"Please tell me what is going on. S'reena just said something about Lt. Cmdr. Meri being insubordinate and disrespectful."
"Commander Meri basically decided to point out everyone's race - sir - and made certain assumptions based upon this. She called Commander S'reena a "weakling" amongst other things I did not quite catch...as for myself? Well, she never finished her comment about me, although I AM rather curious..." E'Liana tried to calm down as she was talking to her Captain, but wasn't too sure if it was working.
Tony nodded. "Anything else?"
E'Liana unwittingly looked at Damion for a split seond, and was divided as to whether or not she should tell her superior officer. Quickly deciding against it, she looked her Captain in the eye again.
"Cadet?" He inquired. She shook her head. E'Liana didn't see the point in bringing it up now. She couldn't be bothered with it. Besides, she had the feeling Damion's aggression was somewhat more...valid...if it could be. Meri's just seemed to be a part of her personality, something which E'Liana was more than happy to complain about!
After the Captain had taken a rather annoyed-looking Meri into the Doctor's Office, BeTor went back to her work. when she got close to Damion, he decided to make most of the opportunity.
"What do you want now" she growled at him, unintentionally hostile.
"I'm sorry for how i behaved, i have no excuse and i don't expect you to understand but i wanna say I'm sorry and that i appreciate everything you have done here in the last 48 hours"
E'Liana, needless to say, looked rather surprised but said nothing.
Damion continued. "I have acted like a jerk and , if i can ever make it up to you , please let me know".
E'Liana cleared her throat and scratched her ear, looking away, seemingly confused. She had rarely been apologised to - without the "assistance" of either her or one of her cousins' fists - and so this was a new experience for her.
"Well you can back down, for a start." She said somewhat forcefully. Although she knew it was human custom to just brush an apology aside and act like nothing had happened, she knew that in this case, it would not work. "And perhaps tell me why you have - had - it in for me?"
<Tag Damion>
Just then a Crewman burst in through the door, complaing of chest pains. Luckily, Doctor Black took charge and the man only had heartburn. E'Liana tried not to laugh at this, and managed to reduce it to merely a smirk in no particular direction.

Damion looked at BeTor for a moment and wondered if she really wanted to hear what he had to say... "Well go on" she said
"A few years ago i was off world with my girlfriend and we went to the Catraiin system. We went out for a stroll one evening and came across a young Klingon woman who had apparently been attacked , she claimed it was humans that did it. I sent my girlfriend back to the place we were staying and told the Klingon i would take her home" He swallowed hard and stared into the distance remembering every detail of the Klingon womans face.
"When we got to her brothers house they were furious with her for being a coward dragged home and they took it out on me , they didn't harm me but shouted and screamed so i left , but apparently unable to take the dis-Honor of her failings the woman told her oldest brother that i lied and i was the one who attacked her and planned to rob her , and that she had tricked me into going to the house by saying it was empty"
A tear ran down the cadets face almost invisible in the shade from his hair as he looked down to his side.
" I ran and they chased me , i was young and no match for them , one caught me and attacked leaving a knife wound in my back and another took my arm with a Klingon sword " He remembered the pain as the battleth tore through his flesh like a targ through fresh meat.

Michael eased himself in the seat that Jason usually occupied, and didn't feel comfortable doing so. In fact, he didn't even like being in charge and as a result he had no aspirations in becoming a chief medical officer. It wasn't his area of expertise anyway, as he was a paediatrician, not a full fledged surgeon.
The assistant CMO gazed at the CMO, knowing full well that his chief was anxious to get back at work. Earlier, Michael had asked the medical cadet, E'liana BeTor for her opinion, and the young woman had merely smiled at him. Michael took that to be a positive, knowing that the part Klingon cadet would certainly confront him if she deemed Jason unfit for duty.
Steepling his fingers before him, Michael gave Jason a long look, and relished in the unease the chief radiated. "After long consideration," Michael started, gazing directly at Jason, "it is my belief that you are fit for duty." He silenced his chief with a wave of his hand. "However, you will be on probation. You were virus infected apparently and influenced by a woman who was virus infected, and we have no way of knowing if you will suffer a fall-back. Therefor, at the earliest sign of conduct unbecoming a medical officer, we shall relieve you of duty."
He gazed at his chief sternly, but uncomfortably, then gave him a sheepish smile. "Can we change seats now?" he asked, "I don't feel comfortable in this one." He got up from his seat and motioned for Jason to take his rightful seat. "And I did mean my gratitude for waking up my wife. I know you have no sole credit in this, but you did wake her up."
He glanced through the window into the main sickbay area, and saw the cadet busying herself with the various patients. "She really does have the makings of a great physician," he commented, "though her bedside manners leave something to be desired." He smiled brightly. "Though," he paused, "some patients might actually benefit from that." He motioned at S'reena, who was making vain attempts at sitting up.

" I ran and they chased me , i was young and no match for them , one caught me and attacked leaving a knife wound in my back and another took my arm with a Klingon sword "
E'Liana stood there, puzzled for a moment. "That doesn't sound like very Klingon behaviour to me." She said. "They should have seen you as honourable for saving a young woman's life. It is somewhat disgraceful - in some circles - to need any help, but most Klingon's see honour in admitting that you need it and accepting help." She thought for a moment.
"Didn't you report these people? What they did was very wrong, and the Klingon High Council does not take kindly to these kinds of actions."
<Tag Damion>
"I would suggest you research Klingon culture and see for yourself how rare such behaviour is. I could tell you of course, but you may not believe me! They don't sound like any Klingons I've ever met..."
Just as Damion was about to reply, E'Liana noticed movement in the corner of her eye. "Can I help you Commander?" She asked wryly. S'reena stopped. "I'm sure I can sit up on my own, but thanks anyway."
"That's not what I meant, and you know it Commander. Now please, lie back on the bed. You need rest."
"I've rested plenty." The other woman insisted, and proceeded to get up., wincing.
"The pain you're feeling, Commander, is the blood rushing to your head as you got up too quickly...now lie back down." She didn't shout, but E'Liana did speak rather forcefully, being careful not to place her hands on the Romulan woman incase such an action was misinterpreted. "Don't make me get your husband..."

S'reena pressed a hand against her temple and rubbed it gingerly, then she squinted up at the cadet. "Not so loud," she moaned. Her sharp hearing had returned almost instantly after having been deaf the entire time. She had no idea just how ill she'd been, nor that she'd been unconscious the entire time. To her, it had seemed as if she were just paralyzed, deaf and blind.
She lay back down on the bed, if only to please the doctor. "No need to call Michael," she said, "he'll have enough on his mind to worry about me." She paused, then looked at the cadet almost pleadingly. "However, I would like to go and have a look at my daughters," she said, "I promise I'll have as plenty of rest as you deem necesary. I just want to see my children...please." She was on the verge of begging, as the last thing she'd heard was the flatline of her youngest child. She desperately needed to know whether her youngest still lived.
She held out a pleading hand towards the cadet, briefly touching the woman's arm. "Please," she repeated, "let me see them."

E'Liana looked at the woman sceptically. Not that she didn't believe her, but because E'Liana knew how well the children were progressing and saw little to worry about. However, she conceded. ~I've never been a mother, what do I know?~ She nodded slightly and smiled.
"Alright, you can see them, but you need someone to help you walk around, and since I think this is a rather private thing, I'll call your husband..." She smiled again, then her face became professional again. "Stay there until we come and get you." She said sternly. S'reena nodded, happy that the Cadet had agreed.
E'Liana knocked on the open door of the Office and requested that Dr Hope come and help his wife see their children. He readily agreed, left Doctor Black in the Office and came to help the cadet lift his wife up. Once she was on her feet, E'Liana left the couple to it and went to write up reports in the office, feeling slightly uncomfortable in their presence.

While Michael helped her up and supported her, S'reena cast a grateful look at the cadet. The young woman could easily have told her that she couldn't go see her children yet. She leaned into her husband, as he helped her walk over to the bed their daughters shared.
As soon as they approached, little Yarna was sitting on her knees clutching the safety rail that prevented them from falling off the bed. "Ma!" she cried happily, holding out her arms towards her mother.
S'reena stiffled a sob, as she told Michael to quicken their pace. As soon as they reached the bed, she picked up her youngest and hugged her tightly, tears of happiness streaming down her face. "I thought we were going to lose her," she sniffled, as Michael hugged the both of them, "the last thing I heard was Yarna dying...."
Her crying woke up Kahlan, and the three year old sat up to demand attention too. "Mommy!" the little girl cried.
S'reena smiled through her tears as she bent over to pick up her other daughter. "yes honey?"
"Where were you?" the child said, almost accusingly.
S'reena exchanged a surprised glance with Michael, who shrugged. "My guess is that she's been dreaming you left her," he said apollogetically, "as you appeared to have been dreaming also."
S'reena raised an eyebrow as she placed Kahlan back onto the bed. "I haven't been anywhere but here in sickbay honey, and I would never leave you and your sister, nor your father." She bit her lip, as she had been considering leaving Michael when they were continuously fighting. She had never told Michael this, nor the counselor, and neither would ever know.
Michael saw his wife getting tired, and he placed Yarna back on the bed as well. "I shall be back soon ladies," he told his daughters, who giggled in response, "I am going to put your mother to bed now." This caused them to giggle even harder, as usually it was S'reena who put them to bed.
Michael pulled S'reena's arm over his shoulder and wrapped his own arm around her waist as he walked her back to her bed. "And don't you dare sneaking out of sickbay," he told her.
S'reena gazed up at him, surprised. "Now why would I do that?" she said, and stiffled a yawn.
"Oh, I don't know," Michael said airily, "but don't tell me I don't know my own wife." He smiled brightly at her. "I mean it though, you're not going anywhere until Cadet BeTor or Doctor Black say that you can. No arguments!"
S'reena nodded meekly, and lay back down.
