YrDis was sitting quietly in his chair when he saw Cadet Lorre tense suddenly on the other side of the table. Seeming to look out at the stars, he looked at the observation window to observe the reflection of the room behind him. He could see a Cardassian standing there with an instructor.
There were two empty seats beside Cadet Lorre, and YrDis could see the officer making for them. Lorre flinched visibly as she realized what was going to happen. Danara, who was inexplicably wearing a cast on one of her arms, abruptly cut in front of the instructor to take the seat further from Lorre, and Lorre turned away to stare out into space as the two of them sat down.
YrDis picked up his PADD and scrolled through the list of cadets aboard the Hanson and quickly came to records for the only Cardassian, Danara. YrDis reviewed her record and actions aboard the Hanson to date. Seemed pretty standard, until something caught his eye. He ran a cross referenced search on the two of them and found that they had been assigned to the same room. YrDis closed his eyes briefly, then checked the PADD to see what idiot had ordered that. It was the computer of course.
YrDis shook his head and made a note to himself to check all room assignments from now on. He briefly considered changing the assignments, but decided against it. Starfleet personel were expected to mingle with many different races, and attempt to get along with all of them. It would be best for both of them if the Counsellor left well enough alone for now.
As he considered the problem, cadets Thelev and Gordon entered the briefing room, while Commander Hope had walked over to Cadet Lorre. As YrDis watched, the Commander and the cadet had a quick chat.

Jason made the last medical entry into the Computer in his Office. He then quickly left, speaking to Michael as he did.
Jason: Michael, take over. I'm supposed to be in a Briefing in about 30 seconds.
He left Sickbay and hurried down the corridor. He was moving quickly enough that he just about jogging. A few junior officers stepped aside. ~Must think I'm responded to an emergency or something. Go figure.~
He entered the turbolift and went to Deck 1. He went through to the Briefing room. He noticed that S'reena was speaking to Lorre, and her face was slightly apologetic. Looked like she was making up for what she did on the Bridge.
Jason noticed that there were exactly 3 seats left now, right in a row: his, Lorre's and S'reena's. He took the middle one, assuming that the one closest to the Captain would be S'reena's. He then noticed that 2 seats down was Cadet Danara. He looked over, and YrDis was looking between Lorre, Danara, and a PADD. ~He must be checking up on them.~

Melain was surprised and relieved that S'reena was apologising to her. "It's alright, I'll probably be forced to deal with similer patients in my future so I might as well learn how to deal with it. I'm still going to file that report, but I will add that you apologised. I think that you should speak to Counselor Yrdis about your fear of sickbay. That is a paranoia that must be delt with."
Melain looked over at Danara. "I'm going to talk with the councellor about my roomate, but I'm not sure anything can be done. I think we'll be okay though, It's only for a few weeks. She was already mad at me ven before I put that brace on her arm, she'll probably be even worse now."
Melain looked up at S'reena and smiled. 'But I've put up with your stubroness, I'm sure I can put up with her as well." She looked over to see Dr. Back enter and sit down by her seat. "I'd better go, it looks like everyone i here."

When S'reena entered the room, Tony acknoledged her with a brisk nodd, but did not speak. She, respecting his choice, did not initiate a conversation. Tony was running over the PADD Johnson had given him a few moments before and found a few points that would be important things to mention at the meeting. Fairly soon, more people began entering the conferance room. S'reena took Lorre aside and spoke to her for a moment before they returned to the table. "Ladies and Gentlemen." Tony said standing up. The room slowly went quiet, "This meeting is to make you all aware of our mission and the parts you will be required to play in it." Tony noticed a few of the cadets smile a little, giving away their excitement, "As you probably know, we are currently en route to Jesin. And you have probably no idea what or where that is." A few people nodded in agreement. "Jesin is located approximatly- here." He pointed to a large map display on the wall. His index finger landed on a place that was white, a few centimeteres below federation space, yet also close to klingon territory." " "Jesin is a H class planet. Those of you who do your homework should know that this is a dessert *desert* planet. Only approximatly 2% of the surface area is water." Tony looked around. So far everyone seemed to be following along. "Class H planets are generally uninhabited, but this particular one is. It's people- the Cragorians, colonized the planet less than 2,000 years ago. They are a cold-blooded race." A few people frowned, "In the technical term people." "The cragorians have requested, in what we assume is a sign of good will, that the federation send a group of elite officers to join them on a training mission of their planets tradition. We also assume that this is a pre-request for federation citizenship move. Star fleet has accepted their request, and WE are the elite officers." He smiled around the room. "When we arrive at Jesin, we will be sending down 4 teams, who will be our representitives on the planet. We have already created a list of cadets and instructors who will be on these 2-person teams, based on performance these first few days." Nodding to S'reena, who shuffled through a few PADDs, he soon was handed the correct one by her. He held it at eye level and read it aloud. "Team 1: Lorre Melain. Jason Black. Team 2: Frek Thelev. DJ Gordan. Team 3: Owen Johnson. Yridis Blayne. Team 4: J'ka. Robert James." "When we reach the planet, you will be transported down to the planet where you will be greeted by Cragorian officials who will direct you as to the details of the Cragorian training excercise. Questions people?"

OFF: Sorry for the interruption but I just couldn't resist. So all of you are going to a dessert planet eh? Be sure to bring plenty of utensils for any ice cream, cake, goodies you find there. I'm sure you meant "desert" Tony as in the Sahara Desert. Like I said, couldn't resist. Continue...

Sitting there listening to the briefing from Captain Marcell I could feel my own excitement level coming up as I thought about representing the Federation in this training exercise with the Cragorian Elite personnel.
When the Captain had finished his briefing and asked if anyone had any questions I spoke up.
"Captain, What can you tell us about the Cragorian atmospheric conditions i.e. Gravity, heat, etc.?"

S'reena watched Melaine. "Yes, perhaps I should," she replied, "but you see, being one of the few Romulans in Starfleet isn't easy. I am always met with distrust and hatred, and as a result I have seen far too many counselors in my youth, who 'tried' to help me. While I have no doubt that Mr Blayne is very good at his job and I think he's a very nice man, I have no desire to talk to him as a counselor. At all if I can help it. Surely you have noticed he's always making notes, no matter the situation?"
She said her goodbyes to the cadet and returned to her seat, listening to the rest of the briefing in silence. ~great, an adventure and I get to stay ship-side~ she thought grimly~

Frek obviuosly knew where Jesin was located. After all, he had plotted the course to the system. He never heard of it before he looked it up in the navigational database thought. Class H, Frek thought in dismay, the sand would crawl everywhere. Ears, nose, mouth, antennae’s. Awful. With a little luck the training exercises would be on the poles. Perhaps the heat wouldn’t be so incinerating there.
Frek cleared his throat and added, “And what do we know about these Cragorians, except that they are cold-blooded and like heat.” He didn’t like to have to work with a species he barely knew anything about. He remembered this one where it didn’t turn out to well, but perhaps this wasn’t the time to bore the others with this and kept his mouth shut.
“I hope you know how to treat dehydration,” Frek whispered gloomily to Lorre, “I really don’t want to end up as a mummy.”

Melain was happy to note that due to her injury Danara and her instructer would remain on board, and Danara did not look impressed.
She turned to Frek. "Dehydration is easy to fix, and even easier to avoid, just drink five times what you think you should and warn your instructer if you start feeling dizzy"
"Captain, I supose I do have a question. Why is it that Starfleet is sending cadets to meet with the Cragorians' request? No that I doubt in our abilities, but would it not have made more sense to send a more experianced crew?" Melain suspected that it had something to do with the fact it's a training mission, and that perhaps Cragorian youths would be accompanying them for similer reasons

~A cold-blooded race living on a desert world? Interesting. They must have very high tolerances for heat.~
Jason leaned over and whispered.
Jason: That isnt going to be particularly possible. As he mentioned, less than 2 percent of the planet is water. You'll be fortunate to find what you actually need. Don't worry Mr. Thelev, dehydration is treated by drinking frequent sips of water.

"Unless you are desert born," S'reena said softly, her sharp hearing overhearing Jason's whisper, "but I doubt anyone here in this room is desert born."
She raised her voice, looking at Melain. "The Cragarans will comprise their teams of an instructor and a cadet also," she explained, "thus we compete in cadet-instructor teams against cadet-instructor teams. Now, both sides will expect fair play, so there will be no cheating!"
She cast a grin at Tony. "Too bad we won't be joining any teams eh captain?"

‘Drink water.’ Frek could have thought of that himself. He hoped they weren’t supposed to carry a ten litre tank on their backs while hiking through a desert. He already got tired and thirsty by the thought alone. This was probably one of the things marines enjoy. He was most certainly glad he was a pilot. “Commander,” he asked, “What exactly are we supposed to do, since we are not allowed to cheat. Play chess?”

Jason: It means that you're not supposed to attempt to sabotage any of the other teams to get yours ahead.
He leaned forward and dropped to a whisper again.
Jason: Actually, Commander, I am indeed desert-born. I am from a desert-region of Earth, known as the American Southwest. I often went on Desert Survival excursions in my youth.

"I suspect that we are supposed to do the best we can with the Cragorians, Cadet Thelev" YrDis said calmly from his chair. "I can't be certain based on the information that we have on the Cragorians, but a species that evolved on a desert world might consider the ability to survive highly desireable. In that instance, such things as social status or the ability to attract a mate might derive directly from a being ability to prosper under the conditions."
The Counsellor noted that most of the heads in the room were turned towards him but went on with his analysis. "Assuming any of this is correct, you should be prepared for beings who are well adapted to their surroundings and highly motivated to succeed. It is also entirely possible that the Cragorians are not wondering if they want to join Starfleet, but whether or not Starfleet is good enough to join them. They may be contemptuous of our abilities, and expecting to have to help us."
The Commander paused for a second to gather his thoughts, then continued. "They are going to show us their best abilities, so we must show ours to them. It might be a good idea if those who are going to the planet to spend some time in the holodeck to prepare for conditions on the planet. Study the information we do have to prepare, and think about what your best abilities are so that you can showcase them."
The conference room was silent for a moment, then conversation slowly resumed.

"I hope that your desert experiance will help to balance my own Physiology Dr. Black. Bajor is a tropical and temperate world, although I have never been there, my parents own adaptions run through me as well. I cannot handle heat and dry well, but I will do my best. Melain looked around the room and realised that in this training she served as the CMO, and knew that it was her duty to insure everyone was medically prepared for what was ahead. "That said, there are some measures we can take to limit the deserts effects. I would like to see all the participants to administer UV protection as well as an ADH injection to help them stay off dehydration." (O.O.C ADH is antidiaretic hormone, a chemical the body naturaly releases when one becomes dehydrated causing the body to retain water. An injection of this will allow the crew to drink large amounts of water and "store" it like a camel. Just learned about that today in bio )

After Cadet J’ka reported to the 2nd officer he was told that his training officer was Gunnery Sergeant Robert (Tank) James and as soon as I was settled in I was to report to him. Cadet J’Ka: Computer Locate Gunny James training officer Computer: Gunnery Sergeant Robert James is in the main Sick Bay Cadet J’Ka: Left his newly constructed crew quarters, and headed to the main sick bay as the cadet was approaching the doors to sick bay he noticed that the looks were getting more and more on him when the doors to sick bay open and the cadet walk in by reading the minds of the nurse(knowing that was forbidden to read the mind of any one with out permission he know who the Guny was and he went right to the gunny came to attention and said loud and firm “Sir cadet J’Ka reporting for training as ordered Sir”
Once again the room went silent and the cadet took no notice to all in the room but the Training Officer he was reporting too.

The questions came one after another and Tony did his best to answer them adequatly. "What can you tell us about the Jesin atmospheric conditions? Gravity, heat, etc..." Gordan asked. This was a time to be thankful for the PADD Johnson had downloaded for him. Tony looked at it, finding the appropriate information. "Gravity is similiar to the Earth's, a little less, hardly mentionable though. As for heat, the temperatures usually range from 35- 50 degree's celsius, 95- 122 fahrenheit, during the day." Tony said, reading off the information. Gordan looked satisfied with that, though a few others groaned at the idea of dealing with temperatures like 50 degree's. Thelev raised an important point, "What do we know about these Cragorians except that they're cold-blooded and like heat?" Tony frowned, "Unfortunatly, very little. We know that the Cragorians left their homeplanet the moment they could- as I said, 2,000 years ago- they had reduced it to a nuclear wasteland. So far they've done better with Jesin." Picking up the PADD he ran his eyes down a few lines then smiled up at his people, "Here's a detail you'll probably like, I wonder why Starfleet didn't send me this one... they've developed almost dome-like structures that protect their cities from the heat." "So as long as we're inside the cities, the heat won't be too bad?" Yridis asked. "Exactly." Tony said, "And these teams, we've been mentioning- our teams are only half the complement of a team." Marcell noticed this just seemed to confuse everyone, "By this I mean- Each team that will be going out into the desert will be comprised of 4 members. 2 starfleet, 2 Cragorian. You will find out who the cragorians on your team are when you reach the planet. As for the nature of this competition, and how you will survive in the desert you will find out when you are transported to Jesin." S'reena gave him a look, then said, "But it's probably a good idea to send supply packages, with water and the ADH Cadet Melain mentioned." Tony nodded in agreement. "Are we going to be issued desert uniforms?" Owen Johnson inquired, speaking of the long white, lightweight robe that went over the equally light pants and t-shirt, that had but a single line of color that indicated department. <OOC: See www.ussmiranda.com/~arizona/uniforms.htm -3rd row, 2nd from the left.> "Yes, when you get back to your quarters, you will find them in you closet. For those of you on teams, please have them on when we arrive at Jesin." He stared around again, "Further questions?" OFF: Cadet J'ka. We're in the conferance room. Please read at least the last 2 pages of this thread, it will catch you up to speed on whats happening.

"Doctor, how large is your stock of tri-ox?" S'reena suddenly asked, "in the heat, the Cragorians will have a distinct advantage over us. If I remember my history lesson correctly, Doctor McCoy stated that tri-ox may help someone, at least humans, cope with tremendous heat and draught."
She turned to Marcell. "Will we remain aboard the ship, or will we move to Jesin to observe the teams from one of their domes?"
She dearly hoped that they would get to go down planet as well. It would be good to get the feel of some real gravity instead of artificial for a change.
The doors opened to reveal a partly Borg cadet. Having read the cadet assignments, she knew that this young man must be J'Ka. She motioned him to take a seat besides GS Robert James and slid a PADD over the table in his direction.

Cadet J’Ka: I proceed to the seat next to the gunny and took the PADD and begin to analyze the data stored on it to see what I will be able to offer to my training officer. As I look and listing to the briefing I form an optional plan of action just incase, I was so hype to be there that I was just going over and over a new plan ever 5min.
off i hope this is what i am suppose to do if not let me know and i will try to better

Melain smiled. 'I'd almost forgotten about Tri-ox. We have enough for all the party members and when you come for the ADH injection, I'll supply you with that as well."
Melain heard the doors open and saw J'ka. fasinating, a former borg. Now that was a complicated medical procedure.
"So we will be paired up with two of the locals, what a wonderful oppertunity to learn about their culture." Melain couldn't help but wonder whether or not the Cragarians would share technology with them, some species didn't, others where more then willing.
(O.O.C those uniforms we will be wearing, their the ones on the bottom left right?)

When the captain mentioned the cooled domes Frek silently hoped they would stay inside. Unfortunately it wasn’t so. He sincerely hoped the tri-ox would help. He still had one question left. “Captain, Commander Hope mentioned something about fair play. What exactly are we going to do? The fair play suggest it isn’t just to get to know Cargarians and do some desert training, but somesort of competition.”

Tony watched as J'ka sat down, he was very quiet, and had Marcell wondering what went on inside an ex-borg's head.
"You speak of it as if the Cragorian's are our enemies, commander."
"Besides those who are on our own teams, we will be competing against the Cragorians, captain."
"Point taken." Tony said as Melain and Black answered her question about the Tri-ox.
“Captain, Commander Hope mentioned something about fair play. What exactly are we going to do? The fair play suggest it isn’t just to get to know Cargarians and do some desert training, but somesort of competition.” Thelev asked.
"As I said, Mr. Thelev, the details of the training mission in the desert are not yet known to me. But as for getting to know the Cragorians, you will certainly get a chance to know those on your team. But everyone else are your competitors, included the teams with starfleet people on them. I know nothing more than it will have to do with braving the desert in a team competition."
Thelev did not look completely satisfied with his captains answer, but Marcell didn't have anymore information for him.
"When this meeting ends all officers are to report to sickbay for an injection of tri-ox." Tony said directing his attention to the medical team of Melain and Black, "Unless you have further questions, you can go down to sickbay and ready that..."
<Melain, Black>
"When this meeting adjourns and after you get your injection, Cadet Johnson, please make sure we have 8 emergency back-packs, eqquiped with water, food, and a supply of ADH."
"Will we remain aboard the ship, or will we move to Jesin to observe the teams from one of their domes?" S'reena asked.
"I don't believe this is much of a spectator sport, commander, but we will be escorting the teams down before going back up to the ship."
S'reena, looking a little disapointed, nodded.
Marcell stood up, "Everyone set? Dismissed."

"I don'tr have any more questions that I think you can answer" Melain stood up and headed for the door. Danara approched her, and Melain was unable to avoid her.
"Looks like this wont be as easy as you were hopeing. It's too bad I'm the one with the broken arm, Cardassians do well with heat."
"Luck of the draw I geuss, if this had been an ice planet, you'd be the one with problems. Go to Doctor Michael to continue with the treatments, I'll leave him instructions."
"Are you sure you shouldn't stay. After all I might decide to take this brace off, and then who would report me?"
"very funny, I'm sure Michael would not hesitate. Besides If I stayed you wouldn't have the room to yourself."
"That's true, I hope you don't mind If I redecorate."
"Not at all, as long is it's back to normal when I get back." Melain gave Danara a challengin smile before brushing past her and heading to Sick bay to ready the treatments.
