Bit stood there next to the Marine listening to the music. The singing could use some work but overall it was pretty good. They had gotten half way though when the admiral stopped and started giving orders out.
Everyone had been moving at that moment putting down plates and cups and getting there cadets and leaving. Bit managed to find Bates then followed him out and to one of the turbo lifts.
“Commander, as you already know the entire bio-neural network was upgraded during our stop over at base, I wanted to give you some time to test the systems before we did anything too demanding, but it looks like we don’t have much choice.”
"Bio-neural circuitry upgrade? Is that what I heard, sir?" Bit asked as they rode down.
"Aye, Cadet, you did. After 25 years they've finally improved the technology. We're now equipped with Mark 2 Bio-neural circuitry. The gel packs are more complex, and the system overall is more efficient. But I haven't been able to test out the system, so there may be a few bugs in it."
A minute later, they arrived in Engineering. "Well, Cadet, welcome to Main Engineering. The Bridge can be considered the brains of the ship, but this, this is its heart. And well it's immune system and a bunch of other things if you wish to take the biological analogy further, but anyway."
Noah turned his chair around to face his Cadet. "Alright, now, first, a couple of questions for you. First, why do you want to be an engineer, and second, what do you think it means to be an engineer?"
"Sir i don't think this is the time" bit said pointing to one of the engineers coming up and getting ready to say something to Bates. Bates put his hand up to tell the engineer to wait "well cadet answer the question."
"If you insist sir." he said looking around. "Well sir for the First question, i really love to work on things. I've always wanted to be on a star ship and i've always like engineering." he said not really knowing what kind of a answer he just said himself.
He thought about the second question then answered "For the Second Question, To be a engineer means umm well your always working on things and keeping the ship in top shape" he said wondering if he had the right answer.

Cadet Wolfe nodded at Redos as he left him to his own devices at the party. Cadet Wolfe was not much of a party kind of guy. Wolfe thought to himself "what a happy looking room this is. I really don't fit in here." The part that Wolfe had not mentioned to Redos was that he had lost his parents during this time of year because of an unfortunate engineering accident on Mountaineer, his parents freighter. The other part he had not explained was that he was was found in an escape capsule by a Cardassian warship, who luckly for him returned him to DS9 where, though he had friends, he was an orphan. At this point Zach was lost in his thoughts of home, his parents, and a Dabo Girl at Quarks, but that was a dfferent story. IT was at that time Cadet Wolfe looked up and saw the Christmas Carol going on and he really wanted someone to talk to......

Noah was silent for a moment before answering, studying the Cadet a bit. "Hmm, well I must say that your answer is simultaneously the most broad and most specific answer I've ever gotten in response to that question. Well done," he said, with a bit of sarcasm on the last sentence.
"Yes, we make "things", but define things? Physicals objects? Reports? Theories? A lot of different fields do that. Keeping the ship in top shape? That's a vast oversimplification of a very diverse job. The strict dictionary definition of engineer is 'One who operates an engine'. While this is true, this is by no means all it is. Another definition is 'a person who uses scientific knowledge to solve practical problems'. And this starts to approach what it is to be an engineer; its about solving problems. We design things, build things, which you were refering to, we fix things, and so much more. One of the keys to being a successful engineer is being able to improvise. You will rarely to never be working under ideal conditions, and you may not always all the tools you want or need to solve a problem. Hence, you must improvise; I never want to hear you say the words 'I can't."
Having responded how he wished, he now turned to the engineer waiting for his attention, introducing. "Cadet Bit-Cloud, Lieutenant Brac, my Assistant Chief. Thank you for waiting, Roland."
"No worries, sir. These kids are the reason you're here. And rest of us and the ship for that matter. Anyway, we're still having trouble restoring the industrial replicator to standard. Could you take a look at it?" he asked.
Noah turned his attention back to Bit. "One of the things you were come to learn when you're a Chief Engineer is that at any given moment, there are at least 5 things that people think require your immediate attention. Typically, at most 1 actually does. But this is an example of one of those. An industrial replicator is a large-scale replicator intended to produce pieces of equipment that we need."
Noah took a breath, and launched into the explanation. "In replication, and transporters for that matter, since they operate on the same principles, you have two modes of operation. There's molecular-level replication, and then there's quantum-level replication, with quantum being the more complex of the two. Organic matter requires quantum, while with inorganic matters, including equipment, molecular suffices. Industrial replicators therefore operate on the molecular level. But to create the Christmas tree you saw a few minutes ago, and yes that was replicated, we had to reconfigure the industrial replicator to quantum. But switching back is proving troublesome."
Noah thought for a moment, then said to Roland, "You know, I think this might be a good challenge for our Cadet. Cadet, I want you to see what you can do about the problem. You'll find the Industrial replicator in Cargo 1, on Deck 8. Let me know if you need help. If anyone asked, which is almost inevitable, that you've been assigned by me."

As Methos ans Cadet Bit-Cloud stood watching the CO and XO do a horrible rendition of Santa Clause is Coming to town, the bridge interrupted at almost the perfect time. As the entire party listened to what the bridge had to say and the forthcoming orders from Drew, Methos listened with intrigue.
After the orders were given, Methos made his way to the Marine deck. Upon arriving, Methos had all the Marines get into formation. When everyone was assembled, he relayed what had taken place in the officer's mess. He then informed them that he wanted them to be prepared far anything. Methos then dismissed everyone and headed to the Bridge. He arrived just in time for the departure, something he always loved watching.
After the ship cleared its moorings and warped out of the system, Methos walked up to Drew, "Sir, with your permission, I would like to run some security Drills, both for the cadets and my Marines."

"Sir may I ask a question? Do you know what position I am going to have in Ops?"
Egan couldn’t help but smile at the young man’s eagerness to get to work. The Bajoran couldn’t remember even being so young and enthusiastic. “Your position is as an Operations Cadet, you’ll be working with me and learning the ropes as you go. As far as I know, that’s the only position you’ll need to be worrying about.” Redos replied just as the music started playing.
The Lieutenant and Cadet stood side by side watching the spectacle unfolding before them. If looks could kill, Egan suspected that Admiral Drew would be dead several times over by now as the Romulan officer scowled, even while singing the rather happy song, at least it was supposed to be happy… Commander Hope looked anything but happy as she was glaring daggers at her commander officer, who seemed quite pleased with himself for pulling this off.
Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on the prospective, the call had come in at that moment, and Redos could feel the atmosphere in the room change in an instant as everyone went on alert. Drew effectively called the party off and everyone scattered in any number of different directions. Stewart was already standing next to the Lieutenant and Wolfe joined them within a few seconds of the Admiral’s announcement, so together the trio headed for the bridge.
It felt weird, leading two Cadets onto the bridge that he was just himself stepping onto for the first time. ‘Talk about a crash course…’ Egan thought to himself as they approached the Ops station. It was a bit crowded for the three of them, but it allowed for eyes to be on any number of different systems. At the moment since they were still docked with Conqueror, there was very little going on and most of the power indicators on the boards were dark, but that would soon change.
As orders came in to activate all systems, run a diagnostic, and arrange for departure from the starbase, the Lieutenant’s mind immediately went to work dividing the duties between the three of them based on time to completion, necessity, and his ability to directly supervise. While in a way he was itching to start the diagnostic and know what was going on with the systems, switching to the Hanson’s internal power and preparing to depart clearly took precedence.
“Alright, Cadet Wolfe, I’d like you to get started on the level two diagnostic. Report any standard abnormalities to me, but if you see anything that needs to be dealt with immediately contact engineering. Also, I’d like you to familiarize yourself with any and all upgrades and additions recently installed while docked. We need to know what kind of problems we could potentially be dealing with here.”
“Cadet Stewart, I want you to coordinate with starbase operations and prepare for departure. You will work directly with me as I power up our systems to disengage the umbilicals, gangways, and connections with Conqueror. Once we’re successfully under our own power and about to get underway, I’ll need you to also familiarize yourself with the upgrades and assist Cadet Wolfe with the diagnostic.”
“If either of you have any questions or need help, don’t hesitate to come to me. That’s what I’m here for. Now let’s get to work.”

"... and here's the science station. Is this your first time on an Intrepid-class ship?" The cadet had been quiet until now. Sometimes cadets didn't ask questions in fear. Sometimes they didn't because they were natural prodigies. Better to err on too much information Konal decided.
<Calvin Brighton>
"As soon as we depart, we will start sensor sweeps... which means right now we need to complete the calibration of the long and short range sensors. The long range calibration unit is in the science laboratories on this ship. It's a little out of the way, but we don't need to visit it that often." She smiled warmly at the Cadet. Her Cardassian exterior did not do her warm personality justice.
"I'll run down there," she said against her better judgment, "and align the long range sensors."
"I'm sure they taught you in your academy classes how to calibrate sensors, and bridge etiquette," she raised an eyebrow in a slight warning that he should be on his utmost best behavior while left alone. "You can calibrate the short range sensors while I'm gone. Sound alright?"
<Calvin Brighton>
Konal left the bridge, picking up pace as soon as she was outside of the automatic door. She didn't want to leave the cadet unattended for long. There were other instructors on the bridge, so he couldn't get himself into too much trouble, but still - she'd feel more comfortable within visual until she got a better idea of what her Cadet's personality was.

Lorna had managed to take possession of the tray of chocolate brownies, although Admiral Drew did pilfer one before his sing-a-long duet with S'reena.
She was finally beginning to relax when the Admiral's comm badge chirped. The words that came from it rolled round the room and made her insides knot.=/\=Sir, we are picking up a distress call from New Haven, there has been some kind of planet wide accident, and they are requiring immediate assistance.=/\=
The orders went out and Lorna went to sickbay, she took the brownies with her. She had been hoping to ease herself into the new job treating a few accident prone cadets, 'oh well'. She walked into sickbay and gathered the medical staff around her.
"It seems we have a planet wide accident on New Haven. I haven't got any details at the moment but we can say it's serious and we are going to be busy. I want every system and diagnostic tool checked before we get there." Lorna paused for a moment "Here have a brownie, we're all going to need the energy." She passed the tray around and assigned jobs.
She had assigned herself the duty of going through the portable med-kits. She started and then looked around sickbay, she was very pleased with what she saw this team knew what they were doing.
She had spent the majority of her life on starships and had felt the hum in the decking change that meant they had gone to warp.
She tapped her comm badge =/\=Sickbay to Bridge, do we have any more information about the accident on New Haven and what's our ETA?=/\=

“Are you both related?” asked Yahnie. Annabelle stood for a second reeling at the question, which had seemed to come from nowhere. Usually when someone asked her personal questions it was about her features, which being somewhat unusual, tended to draw stares. She looked sharply at the other cadet and saw a look of pure indignation cross her face. Then, before Annabelle could even think about the plausibility of being related, the other cadet replied almost defiantly
"Of course not. Why would you think that?"
Great. Thought Annabelle. Was there really the need to deny the question so quickly? It seemed as if their instructor was a little taken aback at the speed of the cadet’s answer as well.
The Commander seemed to be a little surprised at her bold tone. "The two of you have the same surname and appear to have similar backgrounds and interests."
At this statement, Annabelle’s eyebrow raised. She wondered what the chances of that happening, with the people involved not being connected in any way. Pretty slim. She could see how the commander jumped to the same conclusion she would have if in his position. However, she did not recognise the other cadet and so without anymore details, it would be hard to either confirm or deny the other cadet’s statement. There was much she didn’t know about her father’s side of the family. She shook herself mentally, telling herself she was still under scrutiny and this was no time to be lost in her thoughts.
"It's a common enough surname. Obviously this is just a coincidence, wouldn't you say so?" She waited for the other girl to say something, hoping that including her would look good to their instructor.
“It’s a pretty strange coincidence if so. It would be interesting to look into certainly. Perhaps when the missions over and I can dedicate some time to it.” Annabelle replied. Then turning to the instructor said “Sorry Commander. In case you haven’t already guessed, I’m Cadet Annabelle Bennet. Although I doubt you’ll have difficulty telling us apart. These tend to give me away.” She gestured to her ears. “I…” However her words were cut off by the music which began to play over the internal comm. System. As she watched the awkward duet between the admiral and his 1st officer she became aware that the other bennet cadet was watching her intently. Annabelle decided to pretend not to notice. She was hoping too avoid conflict over the matter. When the alert came, the room buzzed with people moving, anxious to get to their posts, the effect enhanced by the cadets eager to show what they could do. In truth, Annabelle was glad the forced socialising was over for the time being and she could concentrate on the task in hand and the mission. Approaching the tactical station behind Youngblood, Annabelle could see another figure already bending it. As the officer and Youngblood shared greetings, she ran an eye over the control panels, checking for anything unfamiliar. Not that there should be. The training covered all possible layouts; however there was always the odd upgrade or slight change to the panel just waiting to throw a new cadet. She smiled slightly to her self despite the situation. She had a feeling that this mission would be her chance to make her mother proud.

He was listening to what Commander Younblood was saying, at the same time he was noticeing Cadet Annabelle studying the layout of the tatical station. He was impressed to see the cadet studying the layout. There were always a few change's in layout depending on who was manning the station.
Looking back up at Youngblood " I will be more then happy to help out commander, as soon as time permits I will meet with you to discuss what ever you want."
Looking at the cadets then clearing his throat " You both should count yourselves lucky to have Commander Youngblood as a instructor. I dont let anybody but the best graduate from the hepta and Commander Youngblood is one of the best."
Looking at Cadet Annabell " Cadet Annabell since your have been studying the layout, How long before systems checks are down." He was checking to see how close she had been studying the layout and to see if she had been paying attention to what she was studying.

S'reena watched the departmental reports appear on the screen at the console between Drew's seat and her own and nodded in approval. "All departments show ready," she reported to her CO. "Helm, set course for New Haven, maximum warp."
She glanced towards the new Bajoran instructor. "Lieutenant Redos, perhaps one of your cadets could take the helm? We presently lack a helmsman."
She turned, noticing K'ratak for the first time. "Well hello Commander K'ratak. What a pleasant surprise to have you aboard." She glanced past him at Youngblood and his cadets, then acknowledging Methos as well. "Run your drills," she told Methos, "Youngblood, work with Methos and make sure weapons are up to par. Whatever caused the disaster, we might need them. Phasers make excellent shovels in dire times."
=/\=Sickbay to Bridge, do we have any more information about the accident on New Haven and what's our ETA?=/\=
"Not yet doctor," the Romulan answered, "we have just cleared our moorings. At maximum warp, our ETA to New Haven is thirteen hours. We will keep you informed."
S'reena beckoned for Redos' attention again. "Lieutenant, have your other cadet pull up everything he or she can find about New Haven. Make that your priority duty for this cadet."
Finally, S'reena turned to Drew. "Permission to leave the bridge? I have to oversee a few repairs in engineering and brush up on my field knowledge." At Drew's nod, she got up and left the bridge.
Before heading for engineering, the Romulan first went by her quarters to pick up one of her sons. Bates had requested to see Jayvee again and he could also watch the toddler while on duty as well. Being wheelchair bound, he often wheeled around with the child peacefully sleeping in his lap and S'reena was perfectly content with that. The other children were often watched in the daycare centre.
As she entered engineering and located the chief engineer, talking to his cadet, Jayvee started crying. She held the young child to her chest, trying to comfort him but it was to no avail. "I had hoped to leave him with you," she told Bates, "but he just started crying again." She placed the child in Noah's lap, but there was no comforting him, no matter what either adult tried.
"I'm sorry to have disrupted your teachings," she told both instructor and cadet. S'reena picked up her son again. "I'll take him to sickbay instead. Michael has stayed behind on Conqueror to help out in sickbay there, so I'll have to bother our new doctor."
She nodded to both men, then walked out of sickbay again with a crying boy in her arms. "Shhh," she tried to comfort her child, "you'll be fine." Looking desperate, she walked into sickbay. "Doctor, please help me. My son is sick again. He's got a history with space sickness, but Doctor Salek had assured me that his last treatments would've cured that. Please tell me what's wrong with him?
<note to doc: jayvee is one of triplets, and he's approximately one year old>

After Methos got the go-ahead from Drew for the drills, he went to an auxillary station and began programing the computer to run drills for most of the cadets and his marines.
Soon after he had finished, the red alert klaxons began going off. He tapped his combadge and said, =/\=All hands, this is a Drill, I say again this is a Drill. If this were a real emergancy, you would get orders from the chain of command.=/\=
"All right Commander Youngblood, lets see what your cadets can do. Cadets you'll find on the display infront of you a Romulan Warship, our shields are at minimal, you have one torpedo left and the Romulans are threatening to board us. Work with Ops and the Marine Contingent, you'll want to try and get the shields back up and repel any invaders. Begin when ready," Methos said.

While Wolfe began the requested level 2 diagnostic, Egan and Stewart worked together to power up all systems and disengage the Hanson from starbase. Everything went smoothly, as Cadet and Instructor worked efficiently together to follow all standard procedures to the letter. The young man had clearly been trained well and Redos was quite pleased with his work. When the request was made for one his Cadets to take the helm, the Lieutenant had nodded.
Though he hated to see someone who was here to learn the Ops position being delegated a different task, the Lieutenant figured it couldn’t hurt to get experience filling in for other positions. “Cadet Stewart, since you’ve already done the prep work for departure, please move to the helm and take us out, as requested. I believe Commander Hope did say to set a course for New Haven at maximum warp.”
<Tag Stewart>
As James moved to his new station, Egan went to ask Cadet Wolfe how the diagnostic was coming along. “Cadet, how are the new systems looking? Are any problems coming up so far?”
"Lt, it appears that the 4 of the gel packs leading to the forward sensor array are malfunctioning. The systems keeps blipping on and off like a string of Christmas Lights." Wolfe replied, moving aside slightly to allow Redos to see the display.
“Hm, well keep running the diagnostic and see what else comes up. I’ll inform engineering of the problem. Good job catching that.” Egan responded, sending an encouraging smile to the young man.
Redos then turned back to his console and had been about to contact engineering when the first officer had motioned for him to join her. Moving to her side, Egan was somewhat surprised when she requested a Cadet to do research on New Haven as well. As much as the Lieutenant would have preferred that Wolfe be allowed to continue running the diagnostic, he knew better than to question a superior officer, nodding in agreement before moving to speak with Wolfe again.
“I’ll take over the diagnostic from here, Cadet Wolfe. Commander Hope needs you to pull up any and all information you can find on New Haven. This task has been given top priority, so make sure your search is thorough and report on your findings as soon as possible.”
<Tag Wolfe>
After carefully reviewing the progress of the diagnostic, Egan had almost jumped out of his skin at the red alert. Once the announcement was made that it was a drill, the Betazoid relaxed slightly. With one Cadet doing important research and the other manning the previously unoccupied helm, there really wasn’t much of a way for the drill to involve them. This would clearly have to be a tactical and Marine only drill, unless Redos himself were to be involved in the test.
With a sigh, Egan rubbed his temples as the alert was beginning to give him a headache and turned back to his console to complete the diagnostic.

As Cadet Wolfe, Cadet Stewart and Lt. Redos popped onto the bridge and into the ops station Cadet Wolfe had forgotten about the sadness that had overcame him standing at the Christmas party watching everyone have a good time. It was at that point that Lt. Redos ordered him to run the level 2 diagnostic. " Yes Sir Lt." Cadet Wolfe responded. As the controls popped to life Cadet Wolfe noticed an anolomy in one if the power grids leading to the forward assistance array. "Lt. it appears that the 4 of the gel packs leading to the forward sensor array are malfunctioning." "The systems keeps blipping on and off like a string of Christmas Lights." At this point Wolfe turned to Redos...... <Redos>

Lieutenant Youngblood was explaining to his cadets on what to take on an away mission. Do make the Opposing force shall be disabled before destruction unless the Commanding Officer orders otherwise Don’t Under no circumstances shall the TAC officer fire on a seriously disabled or unarmed vessel with the intent to destroy unless good and provable cause is present or a ranking officer orders it These are the type of phasers I shall explain to you to use on an away mission. 1.Phasers, (Type one, two and Phaser rifle type three) 2. Phaser Cannon (for ground battles) Non-Directed Energy Weapons 3. Photon Grenades for use in large scale stunning blunt or bladed weapons.
These may be used only with CO's and CTO's permission and with good cause.
When on an away mission always bring a Basic medical First-aid Kit.
Personal items you should bring a clean duty uniform and always take care of your feet. Take extra socks and any thing that will help keeping your care. Your care is always an important asset to your team and your mission.
Commander’s Youngblood and K'ratak stood back and let the cadets take over. Commander Youngblood turned towards Cadet’s Annabelle and Clara Bennet, Let’s see what the academy has taught you?

Noah thought for a moment, then said to Roland, "You know, I think this might be a good challenge for our Cadet. Cadet, I want you to see what you can do about the problem. You'll find the Industrial replicator in Cargo 1, on Deck 8. Let me know if you need help. If anyone asked, which is almost inevitable, that you've been assigned by me."
Bit looked at Noah like he was crazy then started to think on this problem. "Hrmmmmmm, Well first I'm going to need a few PADD's maybe 3 or 4 and a cup of coffee." after he finished saying what he needed he saw the Assit. CEO leave then come back with the stuff he requested.
"Anything else?" Noah said. "Access to one of these terminals" Bit said pointing to the one closest to him. "Alright have at it. Call me if you need any help. " Noah said then turned around and left to go off and do things.
Bit looked around and went over to the terminal and started to research on the Industrial Replicator. It was going to be a real task to fix it he thought to himself. He was able to find some blue prints on the machine and manged to get them downloaded onto one of the 4 PADD's he had.
He sat the PADD aside then picked up the next one and also sat it aside for notes on what changes he made to the Replicator, he had 2 PADD's left and decided he would save them for later. He was just about to leave Engineering when Noah came up to him again. "Cadet aren't you forgetting something?"
Bit didn't know what he was talking about. Then Noah held up a kit "You need your repair kit it has all the tools you will need, well the tools you will need for this task" he said handing the kit to bit then turned around and went back to work.
Bit opened the kit and stuffed the PADD's inside it so he wouldn't have to worry about dropping anything then went to the turbolift. He managed to find it and pressed the button. It took a few minutes but the turbolift came and it was empty. He stepped inside the small lift "Cargo bay 1" he said unsure of how to tell the lift were to go. The computer beeped and the lift was on its way.
The doors opend and he got out and started to walk around the deck. He got around and saw a few big doors and went inside one. It looked like he had picked the right one because there was a big machine inside and there looked like there had been two other engineer's working because there stuff was sitting around the place.
It wasn't long before he got in that the alarms started to go off.
Soon after he had finished, the red alert klaxons began going off. He tapped his combadge and said, =/\=All hands, this is a Drill, I say again this is a Drill. If this were a real emergancy, you would get orders from the chain of command.=/\=
Bit got a little nervous and tapped his comm =^= Bit to Commander Bates, What should i do now that the alarms are going off?" "It's just a drill Cadet, Keep working" =^=
Bit wasn't sure but thats what he was told to do so he followed and headed towards the big machine. He got up to it and sat his case down and started to open it and get unpacked so he could work without having to always go back to his kit and continue to pull things out.

"I'm sorry to have disrupted your teachings," she said, and picked up Jayvee out of Noah's lap...but not before the child managed to vomit all over an exposed panel. S'reena gave an apologetic look, then hurried out.
"That's probably why the kid was unhappy," Noah commented to Roland as Bit left, and just then the panel sparked.
"Well that's one problem that's certainly not in the handbook," Roland commented. "Vomit on a power junction."
"The stuff we come up against rarely is," Noah said as Ensign Raddick came over to see what the problem with the power junction was.
"Uhm, sirs? What exactly is that?" the power specialist asked, pointing at the junction.
"That would be infantine vomit, Ensign," Noah stated matter-of-factly.
"How...no, never mind, don't tell me," he said, approaching the panel. "I'm just not sure how I'm going to enter this into my activity log." He shook his head and set to work.
A panel beeped, and Roland checked it. "Looks like we've got some problems with the bio-neural circuitry. Gel packs are malfunctioning."
Noah pulled his attention away from Raddick. "Well, looks like it's about time we get to those calibrations, isn't it?"

"Cadets I want to introduce to you Commander K’ratak, He was my training officer when I was a cadet on the Hepta. This is cadet Annabelle Bennet and Cadet Clara Bennet. They are both traning in CTSO, If you would like I could use some help in traning. By the way Commander, When it is possible since your staying on board, Can we get together to talk. It’s great to see you again Commander." Yanhie said. “It’s an honour to meet you Commander.” Replied Annabelle, bowing slightly as the formal customs of her culture dictated. She noticed the other cadet giving her a strange look as she noticed it.
k'ratak – “Looking at the cadets then clearing his throat "You both should count yourselves lucky to have Commander Youngblood as a instructor. I don’t let anybody but the best graduate from the Hepta and Commander Youngblood is one of the best." Looking at Cadet Annabelle " Cadet Annabelle since your have been studying the layout, How long before systems checks are down." He was checking to see how close she had been studying the layout and to see if she had been paying attention to what she was studying.” “1 minute 37 seconds before the checks are finished.” Replied Annabelle promptly. Before the commander could respond to her answer, a klaxon sounded and a message came over the comm. system from Methos announcing the emergency drill.
"All right Commander Youngblood, lets see what your cadets can do. Cadets you'll find on the display in front of you a Romulan Warship, our shields are at minimal, you have one torpedo left and the Romulans are threatening to board us. Work with Ops and the Marine Contingent, you'll want to try and get the shields back up and repel any invaders. Begin when ready," Methos said.
Annabelle thought about the options. The main problem was how to get the shields back up to full strength before the ship was boarded. Using the torpedo would severely limit the options, escalate the hostility of the situation and increase the risk of losing control of the ship to the Romulans. No, she thought, the torpedo was definitely a last resort. Remembering what Methos had said about only tactical, ops and marines being involved in the drill, Annabelle checked the systems to check how long in would take to get the shields back up to full strength. The diagnostic was not good. The Romulans would have time to capture the ship, work out how to use the replicator and drink the coffee it produced before the shields would be online. No. The first thing to do would bring the Phasers online so that the marines would have something to defend the ship with. She tapped her COM badge “tactical to Methos. Phasers online and ready for marine use in 2 minutes to defend the ship." Annabelle turned to Clara "Any ideas on the shields?" <tag Clara>

Watching the Cadets go through the drill, brought a smile to his face. He was happy to see them think things through, and not rush to anything. He stood back and watched Commander Youngblood as well, he had come far since he had left him. Like a proud parent he just watched for the moment.
Looking around the bridge it was wierd for him him, he missed his ship and crew. Then again that wasn't his choice things and gotten very wierd. They had to leave in a hurry, he just hope things would work out. Still he looked back at the cadets wondering what they would come up with. Not wanting to help to much but enought to give them something else to work with. " I'm just thinking out loud here but it the tractor beam could be reversed to push us away out of transport range might bye some more time. Thats if its working and could be changed to do what we need. Like I said just talking out loud here might not work at all"

=/\=Not yet doctor,=/\= S'reena said =/\=we have just cleared our moorings. At maximum warp, our ETA to New Haven is thirteen hours. We will keep you informed.=/\=
Lorna acknowledged the FO and continued with the portable medical packs. In preparation for a planet-wide emergency she added a pack of transponder tags to each case and a type one phaser. With thirteen hours to go most of the medical staff would be able to get a nap in before they reached New Haven, as soon as these checks were done.
Lorna was just starting to send her staff off to rest when S'reena arrived, she was holding a screaming child and was obviously a little panicked.
"Doctor, please help me. My son is sick again. He's got a history with space sickness, but Doctor Salek had assured me that his last treatments would've cured that. Please tell me what's wrong with him?"
Lorna hurried to S'reena's side pulling her tricorder en-route. She murmured gently to the child, she recognised him as one of the triplets but couldn't remember which name went with this child. Her reassurances had no affect on the child but they seemed to soothe S'reena a little. Lorna asked a few questions and S'reena answered them.
A quick glance over her shoulder informed her that most of her medical staff had gone. "Lights to 50%." The lights in sickbay dimmed and the child's crying eased a little. "He's suffering from a combined headache and stomach ache. I believe the underlying cause is an allergic reaction." Lorna explained, reaching for a hypospray. The space-sickness was enough information to identify the child and a quick check of Jayvee's medical record revealed no allergies. A dose of analgesic / antihistamine later and Jayvee stopped crying.
Lorna made another check on Jayvee and he made a grab for her scanner. Lorna smiled and putting the scanner away, passed him a small toy instead. He seemed happy.
"It seems that Jayvee has a sensitivity to citrus fruits," Lorna said to S'reena. "I can come up with a desensitisation formula to prevent further reactions..."

“Captain’s Log Stardate 93.1217, After welcoming our cadets aboard we picked up a distress call from the colony New Haven, the message was unclear as to what had happened, but one thing is certain: a terrible disaster has occurred. I have ordered us to proceed to the colony at maximum warp; hopefully we will arrive in time to render assistance.
Unfortunately our rapid departure from Starbase Conqueror has resulted in us having insufficient time to fully test the upgrades that were made to the ship during our stop over. This had left us with no choice but to test those systems during the course of our mission; I can only hope that the Engineering Corps did their job well and none of the systems will cause any problems…”
As he finished his log, Drew surveyed the bridge. Unusually during this stage of an assignment, he would be in his ready room reading up on the background to their destination; unfortunately both S’reena and Konal had left the bridge to attend to duties elsewhere, leaving him as the only command officer present, and thus unable to leave the bridge.
“Admiral,” Lieutenant Egan called out from Ops, “sensors are picking up another vessel, heading our way at full impulse and their trajectory suggests they have come from New Haven.”
“Take us out of warp,” Drew ordered, standing from his chair and walking to the centre of the bridge, “put the vessel on screen.”
All eyes on the bridge turned to the forward viewscreen, which had switched from showing the stars to showing a Federation transport ship.
“What’s their status?” Drew asked, pacing the command deck now.
“The ship has received heavy damage, their warp drive is offline,” Egan reported, “I am detecting over one hundred life signs, many of them appear to be injured.”
“Open a channel,” Drew ordered, now standing in the centre of the bridge and looking directly at the viewscreen, “Federation vessel, this is the USS Hanson, do you require assistance?”
“Hanson,” a female voice answered over the comm system, “we have injured over here and no doctor, we need medical assistance.”
“Understood,” Drew replied, “we will transport your injured to our sickbay, we have a full medical staff who can treat them, I also suggest we put your ship in a tractor beam and that you allow our engineering crews to help repair the damage to your warp drive.”
“Thank you Hanson,” the female answered, “we await your help.”
The channel closed, Drew returned to his seat and tapped the ship wide intercom system;
“Bridge to Sickbay, stand by to receive multiple patients of varying degrees of injury, Engineering, prepare an emergency repair team and assemble in transporter room two.”
“Transporting the injured now sir,” Egan reported, “they have arrived in sickbay and we have tractor beams standing by to take the ship into tow.”
“Excellent,” Drew replied, rising from his chair and walking to the turbolift, “am going down to sickbay, our visitors may have some information, Cadet [Clara]Bennett, I’d like you to please join me.”
Cadet Bennett looked momentarily terrified at the idea of joining Drew anywhere, but nodded her consent and approached the turbolift.
“Commander Hope, please report to the bridge to assume command,” Drew ordered over the comm system as the turbolift closed on the bridge and began the dissent to sickbay.
“Well Cadet,” Drew said, turning to face Clara, “this will certainly be an education for you, if Dr. Holsen is like every other Starfleet medical officer I have encountered, she will hate having us in sickbay trying to question her patients.”

“Bridge to Sickbay, stand by to receive multiple patients of varying degrees of injury, Engineering, prepare an emergency repair team and assemble in transporter room two.”
"Did we get a distress call," Noah called out to no one in particular, caught unawares by the order.
"Aye sir," Woti replied after checking a console. "Federation vessel, heavy damage. Warp drive, and shields are offline. Impulse doing so well either."
"Brac, Woti, with me," Noah said, and after a tool kit, rolled toward the door, tapping his commbadge on the way. "Bates to Cadet Bit-Cloud. Stop what you're doing and meet me in transporter room 2. That's on Deck 4. Bring your tool kit."
<Tag Bit>
A few minutes later, the Engineering team materialized in distressed ship's engine room. Noah looked around to attempt to identify who was in charge, but that was simplified by a harried-looking individual approaching them.
"You from the Hanson?" the man asked. Noah couldn't identify the man's species because of the poor light.
"Aye. Commander Noah Bates, Chief Engineer. What's your status?"
"Warp core's offline; Dilithium matrix is toast, and the injectors are frozen. Power systems are fluctuating as well. The Chief Engineer and Warp specialist are both dead. I'm Reat, Engineer 2nd Class."
"Woti, Roland, get started on the power systems. Cadet, you're with me on the warp core," Noah instructed, then got moving.
<Tag Bit>
"Wait..." Reat said after a moment. "A Cadet?" he asked, eyeing Bit as they got to work.
"Hanson is a training vessel," Noah explained, then got to work himself.

"We are coming out of warp" Konal said to herself as she entered the bridge. She rushed over to the science station. Hopefully her absence had not caused some sort of problem for the ship.
"Cadet, report," she said, in a voice that sounded more stern than she intended. Cadet Brighton reported that a ship was encountered while in route to New Haven. The ship's status was scrolling across the short range sensor scans.
"I see we are all calibrated," she said smiling. Leaving the cadet alone on board.
=/\= Konal to science team =/\= Konal contacted Commander Elal. Commander Manto had left the Vulcan in charge, with the other cadet. Elal had grandeur ideas of being in charge someday, or having some sort of Command position. This was Konal's way of appeasing him while testing the waters.
=/\= I am here Commander, with the Cadet. =/\=
=/\= Are you finished calibrating? =/\= sometimes it seems like that was all they did. She had left them when she felt the ship leave space dock, thinking it was better to be on the bridge than to leave Cadet Brighton alone up there.
---------- in the science lab ---------------
=/\= I'll be on the bridge as soon as possible. =/\= Elal replied.
=/\= No need, Cadet Brighton and I have things covered up here. Get them functioning within acceptable parameters, and then run the Cadet through normal operating procedures for an on-duty science officer. Manto out. =/\=
Elal clenched his jaw. A cadet on the bridge was not logical, when he could be up there doing a better job. Still, it was his job to follow the orders of the senior officer, and he was not about to go against those orders.
"Are you almost complete with the upgrades, Cadet"
<Clark>
"When we are finished, I will take you to astrometrics. That is where most of the important work is done in our department."
That fact was debatable, but since Elal did most of his work in astrometrics, it was no surprise he felt that way.
"How much training have you had as a science officer?"
<Clark>
The curious nature of Elal showed that he did not completely conform to an emotionless state of being. He would never admit it though.

Clara was not impressed at the prospect of doing drills to pass the time. They'd finished the forced socialisation because of an emergency and now it felt like they were killing time. On the bright side it gave her a chance to analyse her fellow security cadet in action.
She watched with anticipation to see how Annabelle would react to the instructions, and was slightly surprised to be asked for her thoughts.
"Without help from Engineering there's little we can do to get the actual shields up and running to full capacity, so we'll presumably have to improvise." She silently tutted to herself for sounding so uncertain. There was no excuse for the slightest weakness.
Before the deliberations about lack of shields could continue for much longer, the Lieutenant at Ops started reporting about a ship heading their way. *Finally, some actual action* Clara thought. She listened carefully to everything that was said, knowing that all information could proove crucial later.
But even she had to admit to being a little surprised when Admiral Drew turned to her as part of his instructions. "Excellent, am going down to sickbay, our visitors may have some information, Cadet Bennet, I’d like you to please join me."
After taking a second to get a hold on herself she nodded in reply, wondering why all of a sudden she was as quiet as that other Cadet Bennet. This was no time to be doubting herself, especially not with so many people watching. She followed Drew into the turbolift and only snapped back into focus as he spoke to her again.
"Well Cadet, this will certainly be an education for you, if Dr. Holsen is like every other Starfleet medical officer I have encountered, she will hate having us in sickbay trying to question her patients."
Clara nodded again, if only to stop herself rolling her eyes, "Surely though she should realise that they are an important source of information that could help prepare us for the mission ahead? What could possibly be wrong with us gaining access to that source as soon as possible?"
She had the suspicion Drew was trying not to raise his eyebrows at her but ignored it. "That, Cadet, is why it will be an education for you."
Not much more was said on the remainder of the journey to sickbay so Clara took the opportunity to think of the sorts of questions that might be asked and what potential dangers might be involved. Preparation was everything as far as she was concerned. Any situation entered into with the proper preparation would be successfully handled, as it gave other people involved less time to mess up.
So why, she couldn't help wondering as she entered sickbay with Admiral Drew, was she suddenly nervous?

S'reena had departed sickbay taking a much happier Jayvee with her and the beta shift who hadn't been on duty earlier were now on duty. Lorna was content that all the preparation necessary for their arrival at New Haven had been done.
=/\=Bridge to Sickbay, stand by to receive multiple patients of varying degrees of injury=/\= The Admiral's words sounded incredibly loud in the quiet. Lorna new they hadn't reached New Haven yet and wondered what had happened still questions could come later.
=/\=Sickbay standing by, Sir=/\= Lorna reported before turning to the nurses. "Elenna, please alert alpha and gamma shifts, we may need them."
She glanced round fortunately sickbay was empty except for one young Ensign with a sprained ankle who was ushered to the door with orders to rest.
Lorna to a deep breath and waited for the chaos to descend she did not have long to wait. The injured started arriving very quickly. Most seemed to be broken bones and crush injuries but there were the odd set of chemical, electrical and heat burns. Alpha and gamma shifts were called on.
Lorna looked up from her latest patient; she had suffered, amongst other things, five broken ribs and a multiply punctured lung. It was a miracle she had survived long enough to get treatment. Lorna closed down the osteo-regnerator and directed Elenna to give her some more analgeasia.
The door whooshed open and Lorna looked up, she wasn't entirely surprised to see Admiral Drew and a nervous looking security cadet there. "If you're here for your physicals you will have to wait we're a little busy." She checked Elenna was all right to finish up on this patient and walked over to them.
"I assume that you are here to interview my patients." She sighed.

"The walking wounded are that way." She pointed. "You're especially welcome to the man in the blue and grey jumpsuit, he's only bruised but keeps hassling my staff." She turned to go and then back to the arrivals "Please try not to stress them out. I mean that." Her gaze hardened a little. Then she gave a half smile. "Is there anything else I can do for you?"
