"How good are your piloting skills admiral?" Sonak asked from the tactical station. Hedin was standing at the operations console, monitoring the status of the other two modules, though Sonak noticed he was also keeping an eye on her and the old admiral.
"Good enough to prevent us from bumping into things," Hepta replied.
"Then please take the helm admiral, and engage thrusters. When we are far enough away from the other two modules, bring us about." The Vulcan leaned on her console, not feeling too steady on her legs as well. "Engineering, report!" she called, "Nick, Nephi what is your status?"
Then she noticed a blinking light. "Ah, the cavalery has arrived," she commented, and the moment she said it, several columns of light appeared on the bridge, taking the shape of marine officers. One of them appeared directly beside her and she was staring in the barrel of his weapon. "Assuming that you have teams on each module, I commend you on your efficiency," she said slowly, not taking her eyes of the phaser rifle that was aimed at her.
Sonak had no doubt that each of her crewmembers was now standing face to face with a marine ready to fire if given cause to do so. "I assure you that we are who we appear to be," she continued, "now, if you will excuse us, we have a ship to retake." Her hands flew over her console as she targeted the module's phasers. "Doctor, if you have the chance, please signal the marines that we are on their side? Mister Gunhappy here is ready to shoot us. Perhaps, since you were not copied, you could vouch for us and tell him that we are indeed who we are?"
<Brandy wanna do "gunhappy"?>
While 'Gunhappy' and Hedin exchanged words, Sonak took the opportunity to fire at the two other modules and disable their weapons and propulsion. "Nephi is going to dislike me for this," she said, "but it will give him something to tinker with. The damage done will certainly not be fixed in a day or two."
She stepped away from the console, very aware of the marine not taking his eyes off her, but she did notice that he had relaxed his grip on the rifle's trigger somewhat. "Admiral, keep a respectable distance from the two modules, and let the marines do their job. Get ready to assist them if necessary."
Sonak tapped her combadge, knowing that both her first officer and the chief of operations were also aboard. "Commanders Jared and Kanz, please report to the bridge. Doctor Reckus, please get to sickbay and prepare for casualties....any casualties." Her gaze locked with Hedin's. "If you prefer to head to sickbay as well, please do so."

How good are your piloting skills admiral?" Sonak asked from the tactical station. Hedin was standing at the operations console, monitoring the status of the other two modules, though Sonak noticed he was also keeping an eye on her and the old admiral. After ensuring that Ops was under automatic control and would alert them to any notable changes, Hedin dug out a medkit from his pack and ran a quick scan of everyone in the room, making a few slight frowns as he did so. Deciding that further care could stand to wait, he went over to the Environmental Control station and run a brief Level 4 diagnostic of all life support systems aboard the module, and particularly the bridge. The work was soon interrupted, however, with an order from the commodore.
"Doctor, if you have the chance, please signal the marines that we are on their side? Mister Gunhappy here is ready to shoot us. Perhaps, since you were not copied, you could vouch for us and tell him that we are indeed who we are?"
Hedin nodded curtly and immediately went to the comm panel, engaging intership with the Marine vessel. Giving his Security authorization code, as well as the previously arranged pass-phrase, Hedin was rapidly able to convince the Marine commander that the Mercury was indeed under friendly control. Then, he turned to the Marine team leader, holding up his hands all the while to demonstrate his unarmed status, and explained as succinctly as possible what had transpired on the Vesuvius. When the Marine leader fully understood the situation, he ordered one of his men to assist in preparing more of the sedative for several different methods of delivery, then he and the others Marines began setting up various other conventional defences, paying special attention to securing the bridge from unauthorized entry.

Hedin, who was busy assisting a Marine with a sedative canister, looked up and gave a strained smile. "Oh, that's alright, Commodore. The Marines and I here are getting along famously and my combat experience could be useful to them. Besides, I'm sure Doctor Reckus would be happy to return to his Sickbay, while I think I should be keeping an eye on your and the Admiral's condition. If you have no objections...?"

Sonak forced a smile of her own. "No objections there doctor," she replied, though she didn't quite like being monitored constantly. Even though he wasn't assigned as chief medical officer, Hedin would certainly have the authority to relieve both herself and Admiral Hepta from duty if he had grounds to do so.
If there was anything she hated, it was getting relieved of duty. She paced back and forth, seemingly impatient. "What is keeping Commander Kanz," she wondered aloud, very conscious of the fact that she didn't appear quite Vulcan in her behaviour, but she could care less. Right new her primary concerns were to her ship and her crew.
"You there Mister Gunhappy," she called, calling him by the nickname she had given him as he still had not introduced himself, "go find Commander Kanz and report back to me on her whereabouts and status. Well, get on it!"

L'Ola felt her head swaying from side to side. Everything was getting darker. That dull pain had got bigger. She had to snap out of it, she always coped fine with being knocked out. There were never any side-effects... Her eyes were too heavy to keep open, and she completely lost control of her balance.
By the time her commbadge started beeping she was laid out on the floor, unconcious for very dangerous reasons.

Kate waltzed onto the bridge brandishing her short sword. It glinted in the artificial light, highlighting it's jagged edges. The security guard turned and saw the blade, his eyes locked hers but only shortly. His head lolled to the side and he fell to the deck. A pool of blood spread beneath his head.
Sonak2 spun around at the noise and saw Kate, then her guard dead. She spun around and took cover behind her chair as the security team behind her took out and vaporised a couple of the doubles. Kate walked over to Sonak2 and pulled the chair away.
"I've waited a long time for this," she said coldly, she shifted the blade in her hand.
A scream shot out from across the room. A small figure jumped onto Kates back and began hitting her. Seliv jr2 sunk his teeth into Kates shoulder causing her to screak in pain. Reaching her free hand behind she grabbed Seliv2 by the leg and flung him across the room into the tactical station, a lound crunch ensued and he lay there limp.
Sonak2 lunged at Kate, her eyes burning with rage. She clipped the tall Tandaran in the jaw and sent her reeling. Sonak2 shook her hand and watched the Tandaran start to pick herself off the floor and wipe some blood from her lip. She ran up behind Kate and put her in a headlock.
"I knew you'd be a problem from the beginning. I should have killed you first," Sonak2 seethed in Kates ear.
"Screw you," came the reply followed by the sound of a blade grinding through bone. Sonak2s eyes opened wide in shock, she released her hold and staggered back. She looked down at the blade portruding from her chest, then she looked back at Kate. Her face changed from shocked to even more enraged. She took a step towards Kate only to be cut down by a series of rifle rounds.
Kate looked over at the source, it was Nick. He'd just walked out of the turbo lift. He blew off the barrel of his rifle and engaged the safty. He smiled and began giving orders to the crew to start cleaning up.

She didn't realize that Kate was one not to be trusted. It took her completely by surprise when she found Kate wanted to fight her. She saw her son trying to help, and when she saw his body laying there limp, she lost control. She lunged at Kate punching her straight across the jaw for what she had done. She hadn't punched anyone before, and didn't realize how much it could hurt. As she is rubbing and shaking her hand, she sees the other woman pick herself up off the deck. If you thought this was going to be easy, well you have another thing coming. You will pay for my son. She thought not going to check to see if he was okay. She felt revenge was the first thing that should come, besides the way that he was laying there she figured he was dead.
Since Kate wasn't facing her, she walked over to the other woman, and put her into a headlock. "I knew you'd be a problem from the beginning, and I should have killed you first. Oh well, something I can fix now." She said being overconfident. She heard the reply and chuckled, but only for a moment. She heard the sound of the blade going into her chest, but she didn't want to believe it. She let go of Kate and looked down, finding the blade completely imbedded into her. She was shocked, and the only thing she heard was the throbing of her pulse.
I failed on so many levels... my son.. my mission.... its all over. What will happen to my crew? She will pay, if it's the last thing I do. She thought, as she tried to regroup. She took a couple steps toward Kate, and then she felt the rounds of fire. She felt herself hit the deck, and then the coldness started to take over. Her life flashed very quickly before her eyes, and then she closed them for the last time.

Lt. Williams had known something was wrong, and wondered how he could help his commanding officer retake the ship. He had been lost, and then he felt it, she was dead. They had been linked, and now there was nothing on the other side. He had lost his lifemate, and he knew who had done it. He would make her pay for her treason. He had advanced tactical training, and he planned to use it.
He hid from the others, and started to plan his next move.

'Kanz to Jared. This bridge is secure and I managed to decode and recode the computer.' came Lucy's voice over the commlink. 'Glad to hear it. Anything else I should know, like why everyone's lying down' Jared replied 'Oh yeah, I was a little late. On the bright side I stopped the orders getting out to round everyone up. Where do you need me to go now? Can't we meet up again?' 'Stay where you are, something's going on here' Jared cut the connection; he could hear transporter beams and needed the silence. He took his badge off and flipped it to 'off'. He put it in the left pocket; the right one already contained the Treewood symbol he now usually wore but which had been taken off when the sneaking in tubes began. Two figures moved around the corner; they caught sight of Jared's silhouette and fired, but missed him. He rolled, shot one of them with the phaser rifle and continued to roll into an adjoining hallway. The other man followed quickly. Jared pointed both phaser and gun at him as he came around the corner. He stopped. 'Who the bloody hell are you?' Jared demanded 'Starfleet Marines' the man replied. 'Who are you?' 'Commander Jared, COO. Original' 'Original? How do we know?' For a man in a Mexican standoff, he was very calm. But then years training as a Marine should do that sort of thing. 'Check the logs. My copy died early on in an accident with the cargobay doors.' The Marine clearly couldn't see any hint of lie in Jared's face. He lifted his rifle. Jared did the same. 'Why were you sneaking around near the manual overrides? We were sent to find out' 'I was the one who turned them off and ejected Mercury. Didn't you notice who was in control of the module?' 'One moment' The Marine reported his comrade's injury. A shimmer of transporter took the fallen man away.
Jared put his commbadge back on. Just in time apparently. 'Commanders Jared and Kanz, please report to the bridge.' Jared and the Marine made their way carefully to the turbolift. Under the circumstances, the destination should be secure and they could always shoot anyone else who tried to enter the lift on the way.
Then again...
The turbolift arrived on the bridge. The doors opened but noone was inside. A panel lifted on the roof and Jared and the Marine dropped into the lift. Jared walked onto the bridge as if it was a normal thing to do. Considering his past, it wasn't unusual to have to do things like that.

After a few minutes, Sarah sighed. "Your duplicate," she said to Nephi, "or whoever it was that designed this encryption, intended us never to crack it ourselves. I'm currently designed an algorithm to come up with all the possibilities and run them through the computer, but even that's taking time."
Nephi had limped his way over while she was explaining. "There's some info on such encryption, and how to crack it, but that's locked in the Main Computer."
"I know, that's the problem," she said.
"I'll get on re-routing control of the systems, hot-wiring them essentially," Nephi said, limping over to another system. He waved Alma over, as the fellow Inuit seemed to have a knack for rewiring ship's systems.
"Engineering, report!" They heard Sonak call a little later. "Nick, Nephi what is your status?"
"Well I can't tell where Nick is at present, Commodore," Nephi responded. "But the status report I can do. There's some heavy encryption around the Main Computer. Sarah's working on it, but it's a tall order. Alma and I have been working on re-routing the control of basic systems. We've pretty much got propulsion done, though not Navigation. So you'll pretty much go in whatever direction we happen to be facing right now, unless of course you feel like piloting manually."
"There we go!" Sarah said from her station.
"Progress?" Nephi asked.
"Well I've got the algorithm written. It's currently working on the possibilities," she reported, quite happy with herself.
"Well, we're partway to getting the first layer of encryption out of the way. It's so rock-solid that I don't even know how many of them there are underneath."

Despite the dire situation, Sonak smiled. "I am certain that Admiral Hepta is up to the challenge of piloting Mercury manually commander," she replied, "report back when we have decent propulsion, shields and navigation. Bridge out."
The Vulcan looked around the bridge of the secondary module, and was pleased to find everyone having found something to do. Over at environmental control sat the counselor. Sonak walked over to her and tapped her on the shoulder. "How are you holding up counselor," she asked, "would you have some time for me when you are done running your diagnostics?"
<Mira>
"Being locked up alive in a stasis chamber is unsettling," Sonak confessed in low voice, so that only Mira could hear her, "especially when you are as claustrophobic as I am." She noticed the counselor blink at that statement. "Does that strike you as odd?" Sonak asked, "a Vulcan being afraid of close confinements? When you have time, I shall explain how that came to be. However when we are done talking, I would like you to have a little talk with Jatan as well as John Caldwell."
She then motioned over her shoulder at Hedin. "And our guest here needs a psychological evaluation. On top of that I would like your report on the double's state of minds, and what you have observed in watching them and us at work."

In a haze of blue Brandy and his team beamed aboard the Mercury, Brandy found himself to what looked like Commodore Rekus, Brandy and his men quickly trained their weapons on the bridge crew. The Commodore quickly explained her situation to Brandy who realized that time was of the essence, besides *what’s a few more hostages.* Brandy thought to himself.
"You there Mister Gun happy," she called, calling him by the nickname she had given him as he still had not introduced himself, "go find Commander Kanz and report back to me on her whereabouts and status. Well, get on it!"
Brandy stood for a few seconds longer as he still hesitated to believe her. “Yes ma’am.” He finally replied as he walked to the turbolift, “Alpha team with me, Bravo stay here and help secure the bridge. With that three men entered the turbolift and disappeared.
When the turbolift reached its destination the doors opened to release the three men bounding in a tactical manner down the corridor. When they came near the end, the lead marine looked back at Brandy for further instruction, he did not see the two men walk around the corner. Brandy and the other marine were taken off guard by the flash of a phaser rifle and the lead marine fell to the ground limp, his head cocked to one side to reveal his face melted from the round. “Take cover!!” Brandy yelled as he shot and then ducked behind a groove in the corridor. The two marines were pinned down; the other marine looked at Brandy who after a series of hand movements told the marine what needed to be done. Suddenly Brandy jolted from behind his cover and to the other side of the corridor, he was fired upon but no scored hit, the other marine took advantage of the situation and trained his weapon on his target and fired, the round found it’s target dead center of the enemies chest, it sent him to the floor a few feet from where he stood. Brandy then took aim from his position and fired, the round flew at his enemy but with a jerk reaction the round hit his enemy’s phaser rifle. With great credit to himself the enemy quickly charged Brandy’s marine through the smoke, Brandy took aim but could not fire do to the two men were now engaged in combat. Brandy in frustration set his weapon on the floor and rushed the two men, he hit center of the two and sent all three to the ground, brandy’s marine hit his head on the way down against the corridor wall and was knocked out cold.
The intruder quickly recovered to his feet and kicked Brandy in the face as he tried to get to his feet. The kick sent Brandy to his back, his attacker tried to kick again, Brandy defensively crossed his arms in front of his face to block the incoming kick. Brandy sent a kick of his own that struck the enemy in the back and sent him against the wall. Brandy put his hands on the ground next to his head and shifted his weight up and then swiftly kicked his legs down causing Brandy to flip to his feet. As soon as he came to his feet Brandy swung around with a round house and connected to his enemies jaw as he came off the wall. He fell to the floor; Brandy took a step but then was knocked back from a backwards kick his enemy gave him from the floor. Brandy stumbled back a few steps and saw that he was now face to face with the intruder. Brandy knew he could end the struggle with his desert eagle hand gun he had in his back holster but he knew he would not get many chances to hone his hand to hand combat skills.
“Play time is over.” Brandy said as he assumed a defensive combat stance and motioned for his attacker to meet him. His enemy in a fit of rage lurched foreword to attack Brandy. As he came close Brandy stepped aside his moving target and swung downward with his elbow and landed a blow to the side of his enemies head, dazed, Brandy’s enemy threw a pitiful punch at Brandy which was easily dodged and countered, Brandy grabbed the arm as it flew by him and pulled forcefully, with his other arm Brandy grabbed his jaw from behind, then he moved his other arm to the back of the head, with a swift turn to the side and slightly upward a loud crunch came from inside the attackers body, the rest of him fell limp, a second later his body hit the floor after Brandy lifted his deadly grip.
Brandy moved over to the marine that was knocked out, “Jack, you alright.” Brandy slapped his face after he noticed that there was nothing apparently wrong physically. The marine let out a slight moan and his eyes came too. “Can you continue?" Brandy said as he knelt beside his fallen marine. “I think so.” The reply came. “Then get up marine we have to move out.” Brandy said as he stood and double check the corridor.
After they had the dead body of the third marine beamed away the two men got up and rounded the corner, Jack was startled by another person in front of them and shot, but missed his target, Brandy took cover but thought something was a little awkward. Jack, still in the corridor, was shot in the shoulder and fell to the ground, Brandy peaked around his cover to see the man roll away into another corridor; he followed to find the man had waited for him on the other side. They both quickly pointed their weapons at each other. Brandy wondered why he was not dead already; he knew the man had the drop on him.
'Who the bloody hell are you?' Jared demanded 'Starfleet Marines' the Brandy replied. 'Who are you?' 'Commander Jared, COO. Original' 'Original? How do we know?' Brandy said with an exagerated look. For a man in a Mexican standoff, he was very calm. But then years training as a Marine should do that sort of thing. 'Check the logs. My copy died early on in an accident with the cargo bay doors.' The Marine clearly couldn't see any hint of lie in Jared's face. A shimmer of transporter took the injured marine away.
After being called to the bridge Brandy and Commander Kanz entered the turbolift. Moments later in arrived at the bridge, Brandy moved over to the Commodore, “Is this the person you were looking for?” Brandy still made sure he had the right man.

Lucy practically ran to the Bridge and went straight to where Sonak and Jared were standing. "I can't sense her." She said between breaths. Now she was standing still she seemed close to tears.
Sonak looked Lucy right in the eyes, "What's happened?"
"I can't sense my... Commander Kanz. She was really weak for a while but I can't sense her at all. What's happened to her? What are we going to do?" The 17 year old went into a full state of panic, not caring that she was surrounded by people that were all in a crisis situation.
Jared shook his head slowly, "That's not good. You seem to have a permanent link with her."
"If the computer wasn't locked out we could scan for her" Sonak pointed out.
"No, I checked before I encrypted it again. All internal and external scanners are down."
Trying to ignore the fact that the girl in front of her had control of the entire ship, Sonak put her mind to the task of finding her First Officer. She called Brandy over, "Get all your men and the security personnel together. We are going to do a ship wide search. This has to be quick or the consequences could be serious. And please contact sickbay to tell them to expect a guest."
<Brandy>
Lucy sat down on the spot where she had been standing, right in the middle of the Bridge. This wasn't supposed to happen. Just when she'd convinced herself everything would be okay again, it was all going wrong. But it would be fine. It had to be fine...

Lucy practically ran to the Bridge and went straight to where Sonak and Jared were standing. "I can't sense her." She said between breaths. Now she was standing still she seemed close to tears.
Hedin, like everyone else in the room, couldn't help but take notice of the young woman's hysterical state. More so than most people, however, this girl seemed to heighten the sixth sense in him. The turbulent thought processes and depths of emotional complexity nearly overwhelmed Hedin's own mental equanimity. It was a distinctly unsettling experience, the likes of which he had not felt since the loss of his wife and daughter...but, no. He could not let himself get lost in such emotions. Now, of all times, he had to remain in control. Reciting wordlessly a few quick meditation chants brought back his inner balance for the moment. He opened his eyes, barely aware that they had been closed for the past minute, and focused on the girl with renewed clarity.
Hedin came over and intoned in a soothing voice, "Please, young lady, be still. Losing your focus will not help locate Commander Kanz. If you will be calm and concentrate on the task at hand, your link may be restored. Listen to me..." His eyes finally met hers and the girl's agitation seemed to lessen perceptibly. Something on the periphery of her mind's eye told her to focus and deep down, she knew that it made sense. Nevertheless, she couldn't help but worry that there was nothing any of them could do, and it was blocking her ability to sense Kanz. Focus she felt again, more persistently, and this time she listened; the worry slowly began to loose its grip on her being.
Hedin sat down beside her, not daring to touch the still shaking girl even to comfort her, and tried instead to comfort with his gentle words. "Stay with me, young lady. We will find Commander Kanz...we will not abandon her or anyone else. Focus on my voice, and our thoughts will join together and reach out to the one we seek..."

Jatan2 had just barely recovered enough from being shot to see his original be rescued from the stasis chambers and he smiled. He knew he would survive if he just kept to himself and he watched as Caldwell's double was hiding in sickbay also. Jatan was pleased that his close friend had survived and once the originals had left sickbay, he beckoned Caldwell to come out. "We must leave," Jatan breathed, as he struggled to sit up.
"I know," Caldwell2 replied, looking extremely worried, "but you're in no shape to go anywhere. Besides, the commodore will never let us leave." He reached over to help Jatan up, when suddenly the CMO's other arm was grabbed also. Both doctors looked up to find a haggard looking Harper reach over to help out.
"We must hurry," Harper whispered, "Sonak is dead, the renegade killed her. We must leave at once before she turns on us. I have also seen marines enter the ship." He faltered when green/black clad figures raced into sickbay, their weapons drawn.
"Please!" Caldwell shouted, "we're doctors!" But it was to no avail. The marines grabbed him roughly and pushed him towards the wall. "I'm unarmed," Caldwell retorted, "and assisting an injured man! Please, we surrender to you!"
The marine corporal released the double and nodded. "Very good," he responded, "be sure to keep your hands where I can see them, while you two assist your friend. You're coming with us, to the brig, where you shall be held until the real commodore turns you over to Starfleet authorities."
Caldwell and Harper both nodded. "Very well," Harper replied, "and we'll assist you in pointing out the doubles while we're en route to your brig." He pointed at the phaser that was attached to his waist. "You might want to take that," he said, as he reached for it.
The corporal shoved the barrel of his rifle under Harper's nose. "Very slowly commander," he snapped, recognizing rank even though technically this person wasn't entitled to it. But as the man co-operated and made no hostile moves, the corporal saw no reason to treat them with disrespect. "Let's go," he announced, then tapped his combadge. "Corporal Hayden to Lieutenant Brandy, we've got a couple of doubles rounded up and we're taking them to the brig. They've willingly surrendered to us without trouble. We have an injured man here though, the doctor's double appears to have been shot."

Realizing just what he had to do, Lt. Justin Williams changed his physical appearance and clothes so he could manuver this ship without being arrested. He needed to get to that traitorous witch. After all, who did she think she was killing people's lifemates and such? He thought realizing that revenge would be sweet. He made sure he had everything he needed from storage before setting out after her.
It didn't take long to manuver to the bridge, where he saw Kate was. He discovered she was sitting in the command chair.
"I have a report for you, ma'am, from Jared." He said hoping this wouldn't give away his position just yet. He didn't like where he stood right now with all of the original crew returning to their posts, but he didn't show his nervousness. All he felt right now was hatred and rage. He had to make her pay. She held out her hand for the padd he had for her, and that is when he made his move. As he placed the padd in her hand, he quickly put the hypospray to her neck injecting the poison into her system. He knew she had only a few moments to live, which she could easliy have him arrested or killed. That didn't matter now, he had accomplished him mission.

ooc: kate hope you don't mind I take this for you as I want to wrap up. Final close is tomorrow morning before I head to work, giving everyone a final chance to deal with their doubles and either send them back, capture them or kill them.
ic:
Kate howled with rage and flung the lieutenant backwards. A loud crash told her that he had hit a console and when she turned to look, she saw him lying at an odd angle; he was quite dead. She pressed her hand against her throat, and smiled softly. "You can't kill me," she whispered at the dead lieutenant, and she glared around the bridge until her eyes met Nick's. She smiled at him, but offered him no love or kindness with it.
The bodies of Sonak and her son Seliv hadn't been removed yet, and it was starting to become a mess. She yanked a nobody by her collar and shoved her towards the bodies. "Get rid of them," she snapped, knowing that the girl was one of the original crew, who had miraculously escaped capture. Looking around again, she found marines storming the bridge, shooting down everyone they thought would be a double. Kate still stood smiling, as her ex-husband was shown the wrong end of a gun and watched him throw away his own weapon and then talk quietly to the marine in charge.
On Mercury, Sonak faced the main viewscreen, watching the marine vessel attach itself to Discordia's hull at one of the docking ports. She had just received report that Minerva was now back in friendly hands, and that Discordia was being worked on. Yet she found herself greatly disturbed at the news that her double had been killed. ~no matter what she did, she did not deserve death~ she thought sadly.
Once reports were received that Discordia was now back in friendly hands as well, Sonak nodded at her pilot. "Admiral, set course back for Minerva and Discordia, and prepare to redock the module." With Nick still on Minerva, Hepta was still sitting at the navigation's console, and to her he seemed perfectly content with staying there for a little while longer.
Sonak sat down in the center chair, but turned when the turbolift doors slid open and shut, only to reveal her husband with their four children. "Juan brought them to me," Jatan explained, "but they wanted to be here with you. I know the bridge is no place for children, but as I heard the situation was safe I saw no harm in bringing them here."
"The bridge is indeed no place for children," she agreed, but then nodded towards Lucy who was sitting on the floor with Dr Hedin sitting opposite of her, "but there are exceptions. Miss Kanz here has done exceptional work, but now she is facing a difficult time. Contact has been lost with Commander Kanz, and we cannot find her." She paused, looking at the scene before her as she allowed Seliv to climb onto her lap. "Doctor Hedin is trying to assist her in re-establishing contact, but I believe that a fellow Betazoid may be of more use to her."
Sonak tapped her combadge. "Sonak to Commander Jared, please report to Mercury's bridge. We have a situation that requires your assistance." While still holding on to her son, she got up and tapped the doctor on his shoulder. "Miss Kanz is a telepath," she explained, "and I believe she needs the assistance of a fellow Betazoid. Commander Jared is such a person, and I believe it may assist him in the process as well."
Her gaze locked with the El-Aurian's and she felt an immense sense of calm wash over her. "Perhaps you could make a round on the bridge, and assist Miss Mira in her crew assessments?"
Not too much later, a shudder vibrated through Mercury's decks as the module redocked with the rest of the ship. "Admiral, please set course back for Bellicose," Sonak ordered, "maximum advisable speed. Confer with engineering on safety measures, since I assume that some parts of the ship are still unsafe for crew."

As soon as Fox2 saw that Mercury had undocked from the other two modules he left the bridge. Not much later, when he
walked throught the corridors doubles kept running past him in the oposite direction. Looking at them one called at him.
"A marine ship has docked. Run for your life and hide."
He thought for a little and threw away the comm-badge he had taken from the original Fox. He walked toward a room where a hatch to a jeffries tube should be. At a wall he removed a panel, reveiling the entrance and climbed in. Suddenly the
doors of the room opened and marines came storming in. His legs were still outside and the marines started shooting at
him injuring his right leg.
He quickly pulled himself in the tube and climbed slowly down, because of his injured leg. He looked up and a head of one
of the marines could be seen. "He's going down." he called and quickly climbed in also, Fox2 was already out of sight.
For some time climbed and crawled throught the jeffries tubes trying to loose the marines behind him. When he thought he
had lost them he sat down for a while to look at his leg which was bleeding. He ripped a piece off his uniform to put it
around the wound when a marine came around the corner, pointing his phaser at him.
The marine tabbed his badge. "I caught him. Need assistance to get him out."
Soon more marines appeared, bound Fox's hands and took him with them out of the tube system.

Hedin snapped out of the telepathic link with slight difficulty, and tried to focus on Sonak. After a few moments, his senses were once more back to normal. "I think you may be right, Commodore. I'm afraid the best I could do was offer a little temporary mental stability to her; the rest is going to take skills which I am not capable of providing. Well, I am capable, but it would not be...advisable. My own skills can be decidedly unpredictable, and I prefer not to utilize them unless absolutely necessary." On this note, he did not elaborate, but instead made a visible effort to return to a more businesslike demeanor. The brief wave of tempestuous emotion which had clouded his eyes during the link with the young Betazoid was now past, and the green fire in them was as steady as before.
Her gaze locked with the El-Aurian's and she felt an immense sense of calm wash over her. "Perhaps you could make a round on the bridge, and assist Miss Mira in her crew assessments?"
Hedin nodded slightly and replied in a no-nonsense voice, "Aye-aye, Commodore. If you wish, I'll have a look at the children as well; current circumstances could easily have unsettled them more so than than the rest of us, even if they are physically sound."
"Please do so Doctor," Sonak said, the doctor part of her agreeing with him, while the mother part was somewhat reluctant to have anyone other than John Caldwell or Jatan Reckus examine her children.
As Mira and Hedin conferred with eachother and had brief words with each person in the room, everyone's spirits began to rise somewhat; whereas most of them had felt varying degrees of helplessness in the past hours, they were now all focused on the common goal of securing their ship, and it was helping morale considerably. Hedin himself was finally able to lower his own personal shields somewhat as he talked with the ship's counselor, and just talking about his own health status did much good to his rather addled mind after the telepathic link with the young woman (who, Mira informed him, was named Lucy Kanz). Certain things he felt he had no time or cause to discuss, however, and he was sure that if he had discussed them, it would only take his focus off the job he was there to do. Things like the unpleasant memories unburied through the telepathic link...but he had such things under control, and even thinking about them right now would be counterproductive. There would be time for those things later, after everyone was safely back at starbase. It was his duty to help ensure that they all made it there, each in one piece, and that knowledge prompted him to devote all his energies towards making it happen.
When he had concluded his assessments with the counselor, Hedin turned to the commodore and voiced a new concern. "Ma'am, if I may: we've detected the life-signs of several crewmembers in the brig. We can now distinguish their bio-signature from that of the aliens due to the blood chemistry differences I mentioned earlier. At any rate, internal sensors indicate their life-signs are at critical levels; they may have been severely injured. Request permission to either send someone or go myself to administer first aid. With the kind protection of a couple Marine escorts, of course. Wouldn't want to be inconvenienced by any intruders along the way."
Again Sonak nodded. "You are a doctor, your first priority is the well-being of anyone on this vessel, and that includes prisoners. Dismissed doctor."

Nick watched Kates eyes roll back and she hit the deck. Her face was beginning to pale as life began draining from her. He quickly ordered the computer to redock with Discordia. Kneeling down next to her he drew her into his arms.
"Medical emergency on the bridge," he hit his combadge and picked up him estranged wife. She slightly opened her eyes.
"We won," she whispered, slightly smiled and closed her eyes.
~~~some time later~~~
"She's going to be fine," Hedin said to Nick as they overlooked to medical ward which housed both Kate and L'Ola. "We stopped the poison before it could cause too much damage."
"Thanks Doc," he smiled and the doctor went back to his office. Nick just stood back against the wall and looked off into the medical ward.
OOC: the Mira parts are done with her on the other end of a phone. Convenient things are phones...
Jared sat next to where Lucy was on the floor and put his hand on her shoulder. Whilst Hedin hadn't known her well enough to do so, Jared and Lucy had been spending a lot of time together unlocking her latent telepathic abilities. 'Lucy, look at me' She didn't move. Jared said a few other things to her that noone else could hear. Eventually, she looked at him. 'I can't feel her anymore' she said. She had said it only a moment ago, so Jared was ready to help. 'You have to calm down and think. Where was the last place you felt she was?'
It took Lucy some time to calm down enough to think straight, but somehow Jared's total belief that she could find the contact again reassured her. Eventually, she found the Commander. 'She's...she's...' 'Where is she?' 'She's...alive' 'Can you see where?' 'No, she's too weak, I can't tell.' 'But she's alive. The Marines will find her' 'I hope so' 'Come on' Jared said and led her to the Ops chair and let her sit down. 'Do you think you'll be alright?' Lucy nodded.
'How are you holding up counselor,' Sonak asked, 'would you have some time for me when you are done running your diagnostics?' Mira looked at her panel. 'I'm sure someone else could do this better than I could. I can talk now if you're free.' 'Being locked up alive in a stasis chamber is unsettling,' Sonak confessed in low voice, so that only Mira could hear her, 'especially when you are as claustrophobic as I am.' She noticed the counselor blink at that statement. 'Does that strike you as odd?' Sonak asked, 'a Vulcan being afraid of close confinements? When you have time, I shall explain how that came to be. However when we are done talking, I would like you to have a little talk with Jatan as well as John Caldwell.' She then motioned over her shoulder at Hedin. 'And our guest here needs a psychological evaluation. On top of that I would like your report on the double's state of minds, and what you have observed in watching them and us at work.'
'Yes, I suppose it is a bit odd' Mira said after thinking for a little bit 'But then we can't expect everyone to be the same can we? I would like to know how you came to be claustrophobic in case I could help at all. Of course, being alive in a statis chamber would be scary for anyone, it's not somewhere I would like to find myself either. Of course, I'll talk to the other doctors as well since they'll probably already be feeling the same thing.' Mira smiled at Sonak then 'And I'll do the report as soon as I can, but you might benefit from some down time before too much longer. Don't worry too much about the ship, you do have other people to help you know'
Mira met up briefly with Dr Hedin and after a few minutes had found out that he was apparently stable on the outside and that he was an El-Aurian so talented in listening. Any further psychological investigation would have to wait until a less stressful time. The first person they went to was Lucy Kanz, who had until recently been sitting in the middle of the bridge obviously upset. Dr Hedin lurked in the background, most likely to aid listening so he wouldn't interfere in things. Jared began to tell her about what had happened, but she felt that it might not be good for Lucy to hear it a second time so gently interrupted. 'Dr Hedin told me about it. How are you feeling, Lucy?' They both looked at Lucy, who replied 'I'll feel better when they find Commander Kanz' 'I know you've been through a lot' Mira said 'if you ever want to come and talk, my door is always open' Mira knew not to push the issue right now. If Lucy was feeling fragile then she would feel better with her friends than with someone she had not met before. Also, if Mira pushed the matter then Lucy could well resent it and be less likely to talk. For others, Mira went around and usually a few words showed that whilst people were shaken by the whole experience, they were feeling better now they were back active again. Also, in the absence of the copies themselves the originals had begun to think of the incident as being just another invasion of the ship and nothing as startling as it would have been if they thought of the copies as total clones. A couple of people needed the situation explained to them that the copies were aliens, not clones but for the most part the bridge crew were aware of the situation. On the way around, Mira spoke quickly to Sonak. 'They'll be fine,' she said
"I got it!" Sarah called out, excited.
"The first level of encryption?" Nephi asked, looking up from attempting to hotwire Navigations.
"Yep. Took the algorithm a while, but it found it," she said, quite happy with herself.
"Good, now move onto the next one," Nephi said, not wanting to sound ungrateful, but they had a job to do.
"Already on it," she said. "Oh....joy...."
"What is it?" Nephi inquired.
Sarah turned her head to look at him. "A fractal encryption code."
"A fractal??" Nephi repeated in exasperation. "That could take months to decrypt."
"I know," Sarah said dejectedly, turning back to her console. "In the USS Enterprise's last conflict with the Borg, not even the Borg could get through the fractal encryption code set up by Lieutenant Commander Data."
"Commander Jacobson?" came a voice behind Nephi. Nephi turned to find two security officers facing him, on holding a small device. "We found this on Lieutenant Brothis's double. We think it's what he used to get through our Security lockouts in the first place."
"Hmmm..." Nephi said, taking it from them. He went over to Sarah's console, pressed the small button on the side, and waved it over the console. Instantly, all the locked out systems came back online. He turned back to the Security officers. "Well done, gentlemen."
Noticing the returned access, everyone present began running scans of their respective assigned systems. "Seems my duplicate even made some improvements to the systems," Nephi said, in awe of the current performance.
He tapped his commbadge. "Engineering to Bridge. We've gotten through the Main Computer lockout. We're in business."
"Acknowledged engineering. You will have more time to repair things when we dock with Bellicose in ten hours. Bridge out."
