"I don't think we could build an emitter- not enough. Things along those lines have been done top reinforce points in the sheilds, but not all of the shielding."
"anyway we can use that?"
Jeff paused..... "I think we may be able to dot something. You can set the phasers to wide beam, right?"
"Pretty wide, but it's accually a fairly narrow beam for what we're discussing. we need every spot on the stripws fireing at once, don't we?"
"Yes- but there's a way around that. Power to the banks is lowered by regualtors along the way- it helps protect them from surges. computer control also prevents wide beam from getting more then 10 degrees."
"Remove that..."
"And you get control. Now, If we modify the patterns to match the patternes emmited by our sheilds, what can we do?"
"Use them as a distinct layer?"
"Close. If you put the wave exactly out of step with the shields, you can transfer the power."
"And we can bolster our sheilds, right?"
"Well.... just one hitch."

In the Oceanus' sickbay, the Bolian Doctor Hytt was tending to T'Val.
As he mended T'Val's broken bones he said with a kindly smile, "So, I gather you are a Healer? I practiced on Vulcan for two years back in the 50s, Earth calendar, of course. Have you ever met Healer Nerok?"
<T'Val>
"Extraordinary man." said Hytt, "I worked with him at the Vulcan Institute of Medicine, wonderful mind, even for a Vulcan."
<T'Val>
"So, how long have you served on the Jefferson?" asked Hytt.
<T'Val>
"Sounds extraordinary, this Sovereign class. Do they still make sickbays as good as they used to?" asked Hytt.
<T'Val>
He put the device down, "Well, that's your bones mended, we just have to tend to this pipe now, that won't be as easy as I'm sure you'll know, but not to worry."
<T'Val>
"I'll have to sedate you now." said Hytt, still wearing his kindly smile. A moment later, he had pressed a hypospray to T'Val's neck and she was unconscious.
A mere 30 minutes later, the surgical procedure had been performed and T'Val was awake again.
"Well Healer, you've healed quite nicely." He chuckled. "I'm happy for you to leave, but I'd like you to report back here every two or three hours, you'll still be quite weak, so it might be a good idea to get some rest, but, you Vulcans, you're very resilient."

Kristin's POV
Kristin was pleased to hear that Ensign Pudlo and Lt. Daya were also working on transport modifications. It fact it seemed as they were ignoring her as they kept talking about the transporters.
"Uhmm..." Kristin said hoping that that this time it would get there attention.
"Yes..Lt...Hope right," Daya said trying to remember her name.
"I just found out that you two are working on modifications on the transporters," Kristin said.
"Yes we are why do you ask," Pudlo asked.
"Oh just because I have set some modifications that will work," Kristin said a bit sarcasticly. It seemed that no one ever respected the transporter people.
"I have already done a trial run and the test have been succesful," Kristin said hoping that would really get their attention.

Matt POV
Matthews: Now what did you both need to talk to me about.
Matt automatically felt himself get really red, he had just asked for them because he wanted the Doctor to attend to T'Val.
"Well sir, its just that I've been thinking about these people," Matt said.
"What of them, Commander," Matthews said.
"Well sir should we try and take some of these people back to the Jefferson with us?" Matt asked.

"Well, to be more excat we are working on getting the shields to stay operational at the moment, but the transporters were next on the shcedule" Daya said as he kept working. Looking over at the ensign, he smiled.
"Ok miss. Hope, what do you have for us?"
<Tag Kristin>
" Oh, is that so, well lets take a look at your stats. Jeff, do you think you can keep working on this till i get back?"
" oh, yeah no problem"
Daya walked with Kristin for moment and they went over to a console, where Kirstin brough up the specs for her modifications. "This is, incredible" Daya said, "it might be only simple modifications, but you did a good job"
****Minutes later****
"Jeff, you almost done there?" Daya called out as he finished checking the tests that were run by the transporter. "She solved our probelm, if we can get the sheild stable, her modification will be enough to break through the magnetic feild of the cloud, but only if we can get the crew down on the planet to do the same thing"

"No, I do not believe that I have," T'Val replied, "I was born in 2356, and I have been a Healer for about five years now. What was your impresson of him?"
"If her was Vulcan, then indeed he had a wonderful mind as you put it," T'Val said, raising an eyebrow, "he would certainly follow the paths of logic, therefor he would be termed 'brilliant' in human terms."
"I joined the Jefferson when she was en-route towards Cirrus Procae," The Vulcan healer replied, "though at the moment I cannot recall how long ago that was."
"Better," she answered, mildly bemused, "sickbay aboard a Sovereign class vessel is one of the most sophisticated facilities aboard a starship, of any class. Perhaps I can give you a tour once we are able to get off this planet."
She noticed he was a little distracted, but she also noted that them talking had kept her distracted from what he was doing.
"As long as you remove it," she answered, wincing ever so slightly as he gently touched the injury. ~my biocontrol is not what it usd to be~ she thought ~when we are back aboard the Jefferson, I need to meditate~ "Worry is an emotion doctor," she said, as coldly as she could muster, "an emotion which I do not possess." ~liar~ she thought, chiding herself.
"If it is all right with you doctor, I would prefer to sleep a few hours, after Commander Matthew or Commander Reynolds has briefed me on what is going to happen now."

“Cmdr Matthew > Doctor Hytt“ /T’Val “I would advise both of you to get some rest once your back on board the ship you will have your hands full “
“ Well Lt, cmdr Reynolds to Answer your Question as you know Starfleet code 1 Emergency protocol Doses cover this situations “
“A code 1 emergency order is very clear we are to rescues all federation civilians and Starfleet officers and enlisted personal back to the nearest federation outpost or Facility Meaning no one is left behind “
“ how ever I’m sure Starfleet command never conceder that there where anything alive inside of this black cloud let alone a small Active settlement made up of many races getting along without fighting each other” I think Starfleet would have a hard time explaining to the other Races why we left there people behind.
“Cmdr Matthew> heard a voice behind him he turn around well Lt Hunter nice to see your still alive at one point we thought we had lost you “ Lt ,Hunter “
Lt ’Hunter . No sir still alive and kicking “
Cmdr Matthew > good to hear”
Cmdr Matthew > Lt hunter am sure you have heard we are going to try to boost the transporter signal down hear along with the Jefferson transporter Modifications we hope to be able to transport everyone off this planet including there just one problem time “
“the Jefferson can only hold its position for the next 3 hours Due to the strong Gravitational pull of the Space cloud then it will have to adjust it course to keep from being pull in like all the other ships where away from the cloud placing it out of transporter Range and leaving us all trap on this planet .
Ok Lt Hunter I need for you to do a head count I need to know just how many people are here a sovereign class star ship has a emergency Evacuation Limit: 2,500 but with some Creative thinking buy my Chief operations officer Lt, cmdr Reynolds ”
Lt cmdr Reynolds > it wont be easy but in can be done “sir” even if I have to put some of them in shipping containers Reynolds Smile “
Cmdr Matthew> it nice to see you have not lost your since of humor as I can remember from my Starfleet Academy History class a New Orleans Class star Ship cared 290 Officers and crew on board and once we get a head count of the other races we can get a final number Lt , hunter “
“Cmdr Matthew > Lt, cmdr Reynolds how long before we can start transporting to the ship.

Jeff and Daya wer putting the specs for the transporter together for the away team. It wouldn't be easy to do, but they might be able to do it, but one of them would have to take the shuttle back up.
When it was ready, they sent it to the bridge to be sent down.
"That's over. Remind me to ask the transporter people about things like that next time." Jeff commented.
"A stroke of good luck. Now the sheilds?"
"Rip out all of the safties, and I can come up with an emission pattern that can work. the only problem is keeping the power from fluxing and blowing us up."
"The energy we have comes from warp cores, right? well, what if we were to focus the output to a certain steady form that is a flat energy line- no waves, and then convert it back at the phaseres."
"let's try it."

Lining them up, Daya thought for a moment. "How should we do this?" Daya asked Jeff as he looked at the phasers. OFF: i dont really have any clues on how to do this, dont know any of the fancy words for the stuff they used and crap like that

Kristin POV
"Ok miss. Hope, what do you have for us?"
For some reason Kristin didn't like the tone of the Lt. but she wouldn't say anything. She had always said men were bigots, well most men Kristin thought.
As Kristin reached for the closes console she noticed the Lt. Daya had followed her. She quickly showed him what she had done.
"I rerouted power from these nonesstential systems and boosted power of the transporter by 95%," Kristin said," I have also expanded the area that we can transport, but not by much."
"This is, incredible" Daya said, "it might be only simple modifications, but you did a good job" Kristin just smiled because she knew that she had done a great job, but that didn't matter. There is no I in team, Kristin told herself as she once again headed towards the transporter room to await for the call.

Cmdr Matthew > Cmdr Reynolds how long before we can start transporting to the ship.
Matt didn't think that Commander Matthew would ask him so fast, but to be honest he had been thinking about it himself.
"Well sir, if we get the transporter array to penetrate the radiation then I would say immediately," Matt said with a chiper voice. He wanted to get out of here quickly.
"Okay good, once we hear from the Jefferson I will let you know," Commander Matthews said.
"Understood sir," Matt said as he headed towards T'Val. She had been awake for a couple of minutes and Matt wanted to see how she was feeling.
"How are you doing now T'Val?" Matt asked giving the Vulcan a Denobulan type of smile.
<Tag T'Val>
"So you want to be briefed," Matt said," I should of known."
"Well we will try to transport everyone to the Jefferson, which can of course be tricking because there has to be a couple of thousand people here."
<Tag T'Val>
"Once we get word from the Jefferson we will start to transport, but we cannot wait long because the Jefferson cannot fight the gravitational pull for very long," Matt said.
"There is one problem," T'Val said.
"What is that?" Matt asked his curiosity peaked.
"What if they don't want to leave?" T'Val said.

'Well, we're going to need more then hand phasers, but I can show you how on one." Jeff took the phaser. "See this power regulator? It's hard to miss- it's a bright orange."
"Yeah. What do I do with it?"
"The ship phasers have a T-grip that you turn, you use a flathead screwdriver for these. Turn the control 90 degrees-it'll stop. that shuts if off completly."
"How many of those are there?"
"One for each bank. I'll pull up a scematic." he pulled up some infor and gave it to Daya On a padd. "Switch the handle at each of these junctions. Where each one is, there will be diagonal ornge stripes on the wall plate. Take the plate off, and it will be right there."
"Any label?"
"Power regulator ajust."
"Got it. But what about the rest?"
"I'll take care of that."

Matthew had just said that they had to rescue all Federation personnel from this planet.
"But sir," said Johnson, "surely you can't be serious! There are over 9 million people on this planet, we have to assume at least a million of them are from the federation."
"What if they don't want to leave?" asked Reynolds.
"Precisely." said the voice of Captain Allen. "I have lived here for 23 years. This is my home. I won't be leaving. I'll ask my people if they want to leave if you want, but there are 357 people living in this settlement. This is one of the small ones. Nearly 2000 people live in the settlement to the south. Overall, this region must have at least 30,000 inhabitants. Can you offer them all transport? Then, what about the ones living in the other regions, the other continents?"
"And even if you could," said Voran, "how do you propose to get them out of here? Nobody has ever left this cloud."
"He's right sir." said Johnson, "The hull will start to degrade in 3 or 4 hours. Then we have at maximum at most a day before propulsion systems start to fail. Then, the Jefferson's orbit will start to decay. Unless we can find a way out of this cloud, the Jefferson is going to end up just like the Oceanus."

"How are you doing now T'Val?" Matt asked giving the Vulcan a Denobulan type of smile.
"My fractures have been healed," T'Val replied quietly, startled awake again, "but they are still very sensitive. I am allowed to walk around, but I do not think that this would be a wise idea. For now, I will remain here until we are ready to get back to the Jefferson. Speaking of which, have there been any new developments?"
"So you want to be briefed," Matt said," I should have known."
"Well we will try to transport everyone to the Jefferson, which can of course be tricky because there have to be a couple of thousand people here."
"From what I understand, there are several million people on this entire planet," T'Val replied, as she struggled herself into a half-sitting position, giving Reynolds a slight but grateful smile as he moved to assist her and place several pillows behind her back. "Thank you," she said, then continued, "At maximum, the Jefferson would be able to carry the occupants of this settlement alone, but we could always signal for support vessels to relocate the rest of the people...those who wish to leave that is."
She paused as Reynolds thought about her comment about people who may not wish to leave, and listened to his comments about the Jefferson starting a decaying orbit soon. "I may not be an engineer, but can we not reverse full thrust of the engines to break orbit?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
<Reynolds>
"And what of reversing the polarity of the deflector dish and/or the tractorbeam? Would that not push us out of orbit while using reverse thrust?"
<Reynolds>
"In the case of having people with us aboard that wish to leave, I am certain that we can use the cargoholds and crew quarters to temporarily house them. Crewmembers can bunk together if needed. I will gladly offer my quarters to small families, as I can stay with Rayna if needed."
<Reynolds>
"That, and sickbay can also hold a few people, and if there are medics who can assist in the medical care of this people, so much the better. Medics can certainly be temporarily housed in sickbay."

The phaser modifications were complete. Jeff and Daya were on the bridge, ath the weapons console.
"Are you sure we won't blow ourseves up?" daya asked.
"Reasonably sure. We have power to the phasers, let's use it. and if you need to, you can still use them as their intended."
"Nice to mention that after we modify them."
"well, just fire already."
Daya opened fire wtih all of the phaser banks on full wide beam. The reaction was nothing short of spectacular. the entire ship became enveloped in a cloud of bright blue energy, which faded away as it settled with the sheilds.
Jeff looked over to Loskene. "The sheilds are good. We've sent them the transporter specs. But there's one thing I should mention with storing everybody- whay don't we just suspend some of them in transit? we can get them up here, and keep their patterens in the buffer."

Matt was very happy when T'Val gave him a smile. He had wanted to do that for so long. I'm getting to this Vulcan Matt said in his mind. He was also pleased to see that the Vulcan's mind was as sharp as ever.
"I may not be an engineer, but can we not reverse full thrust of the engines to break orbit?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"The reverse thrusters don't have nearly enough power to push a ship as big as the Jefferson out of this cloud," Matt said grimly.
"And what of reversing the polarity of the deflector dish and/or the tractor beam? Would that not push us out of orbit while using reverse thrust?"
"That will help, but the gravitational pull is so strong that we will run out of power before we out of the cloud," Matt said again hoping that he could just say yes to one of her ideas. It seemed odd to Matt that for T'Val not being in engineering she had very good ideas on how to fix the problem. Maybe Pudlo could use her sometimes, Matt thought once again.
"In the case of having people with us aboard that wish to leave, I am certain that we can use the cargo holds and crew quarters to temporarily house them. Crewmembers can bunk together if needed. I will gladly offer my quarters to small families, as I can stay with Rayna if needed."
"That is very kind of you, Healer and if it comes to that I know that the rest of the crew will happily agree to the new housing arrangements," Matt said," and yes I have been thinking of using the cargo holds to hold large families and small settlements."
"That, and sickbay can also hold a few people, and if there are medics who can assist in the medical care of this people, so much the better. Medics can certainly be temporarily housed in sickbay."
"That's even better news," Matt said," but I once heard that doctors never can get along they have to much of an ego." Matt knew at once that his joke didn't hit and T'Val just raised her eyebrow finding no logic in his words. "Never mind T'Val."
"Commander, Captain Allen has asked for you," a young child said running towards him.
"Why thank you little one, do you want to lead the way?" Matt asked.
"Yesem," the child responded," but I'm not young, I'm already 8." Matt chuckled and turned to T'Val.
"T'Val get some sleep," Matt said trying to act serious.
"I will," T'Val responded.
"So little one what’s your name?" Matt asked again as he quickly realized that his nephew was his same age. To be honest this kid could even be his brother.
"I told you I'm not little, but my name is Caleb," Caleb said as he started walking off.
"Okay, okay, your a big boy," Matt said smiling as he followed Caleb out the door. Matt quickly noticed that Caleb walked as though he was marching. In fact he probably marched better then he did.
"So Caleb, where are your parents?" Matt said hoping to start conversation.
"They died in the last war," Caleb said as it was nothing," I'm all alone now." Matt was horrified at the ease of what this child was talking about the death of his parents. Matt hadn't noticed that he had stopped walking, but Caleb sure did.
"Hey Commander, commander your supposed to follow me," Caleb said as he started poking Matt. Matt quickly came out of his thoughts and looked down at the kid. He felt so bad at the life that he had lived here on the planet, but at least he was safe Matt thought.
"You can call me Matt," Matt said as he motioned for Caleb to continue walking. He’s a strong kid Matt thought.
“Hey Matt, what’s your ship like?” Caleb said as he slowed down to let Matt catch up.
”It’s a beautiful ship, we have 24 decks,” Matt started to say.
“24, wow, the Oceanus only has 15,” Caleb said. Matt was about to say that he was mistaken because he knew that a New Orleans class had 19 decks. Then it hit him, Caleb hadn’t been alive long enough to see the Oceanus in all its glory.
“Yeah and we have replicators that make anything you want,” Matt said.
“Really does it even make ice cream?” Caleb asked,” my parents told me about ice cream.”
“Yeah Caleb we have tons of ice cream, we even got over three hundred types of ice cream,” Matt said. Caleb squealed with delight finally letting his child side come out.
“You know what I promise you that I will give you all the ice cream that you want,” Matt said smiling.
“Really, you promise,” Caleb said.
“Yes I promise,” Matt said laughing.
“That’s great Matt, so how many people are on the Jefferson, Matt?” Caleb asked returning to his older self. He sure asks a lot of questions Matt told himself.
“Well we have about 825 people on board,” Matt said,” but if you want we can take a lot of you with us.”
“Really I have always wanted to leave this planet,” Caleb said as he stopped,” that’s my dream you know.”
“I’ll keep that in mind,” Matt said as he realized that he had arrived to their destination. “I’m guessing we’re here.”
“Yep,” Caleb said proudly.
“You know if you want we can talk more later,” Matt said as he patted Caleb on the shoulder. He was pleased that Caleb said an emphatic yes and walked into the room.
“Captain, Commander what can I do for you?” Matt said as he entered the well lighted room.
Commander, my best people have been working on getting communications to the Jefferson, but we have not yet succeeded.
“Okay, I’ll get to work right away,” Matt said as he took off his yellow vest. Matt quickly went to work and found himself at ease. His training mission quickly came to mind as he was doing this. What also came to mind was how he fixed it. He had been working hours looking for a hidden virus, but it had turned out to be right in front of his face. So here he was doing the same and just like he thought it was the same case. Matt quickly fixed the communication console.
“How did you do it so fast?” Captain Allen asked.
”I have dealt with this exact problem before Captain,” Matt said as he contacted the Jefferson.
“Jefferson, this is Commander Reynolds hailing from the USS Oceanus,” Matt said into the console.
“Oceanus this is the Jefferson we are glad to hear back from you,” Admiral Loskene said.
“Thank you Captain, but we have a lot of work to do,” Matt said as he, Commander Matthews and Captain Allen started to work on the plans to get everyone back home. Everything was going well until the subject of relocating the settlers of this planet came up.
“Admiral with all due respect I don’t think the Federation can transport millions of people from this cloud,” Captain Allen said,” its just not possible and this cloud could move along at any moment.”
”What about the people that want to leave?” Matt asked.
“Commander, I know you want to help, but there is no way that you can help all of us,” Captain Allen said.
“Gentlemen I have just received word from my Chief Engineer that are shields are ready,” Loskene said,” he has also recommended that we put some of the settlers in the transporter buffer.
“Admiral, I don’t think that will work, I may not be correct, but the amount of people would surely put a serious strain on the transporters,” Matt said,” there’s also the fact that the patterns would start to degrade rather quickly.”
“How long could those patterns last?” Commander Matthews asked.
“I’m not sure, but I would say a couple of hours,” Matt said,” but the transporter chief would know best.” There was a bit of silence as the men waited for Admiral’s Loskene’s response.
“Lt. Hope agrees with your assessment Commander,” Loskene said,” she also tells me that the Jefferson could hold up to 1000 people in there buffers.”
“So the most we can transport is 3500 civilians,” Captain Allen said.
“How so Captain, the Jefferson only holds 2500 at the max,” Matthews said.
“Commander if your Lt. is right and the patterns can only be in the buffers for a few hours, then all you have to do is switch people,” Captain Allen said.
“Could that work?” Loskene asked.
“Yes sir, I think it can,” Matt said.
“Okay gentlemen if it works lets do it,” Loskene said,” Commander Matthews I want a report before we start transporting people.
“Understood sir,” Matthew said.
“Commander’s I know that it was a bit premature, but I have already asked the closest settlements to join us,” Allen said,” I’m sure by now that there is 4000 people.”
“Captain will you be leaving with us?” Commander Matthews asked.
“No, this is my home now,” Allen said,” and to be honest I don’t think many people will want to leave, like me this has become their home.”
“Understood, but I will have to give them the chance,” Matthews said as he walked out the room.
“Captain, if this is the case I ask you if Caleb can come with us?” Matt asked. Matt didn’t even let Captain Allen speak as he gave his reason’s for his request. “ Caleb is a very bright boy sir who can flourish in the Federation, he has no family here anymore and sir I promised him I would.
“Commander who would take care of him?” Captain Allen asked,” there is no one out there for him. He has no family on the outside.”
“I would sir,” Matt said without hesitation,” I would gladly take him in.”
“Are you sure?” Captain Allen asked.
“Yes,” Matt said.
“Under one condition, Commander, you must ask him first,” Captain Allen said.
“Yes sir,” Matt said as he headed out to find Caleb. He was surprised when he stepped out of the door and Caleb was out waiting for him.
Hey Caleb I have to ask you something?” Matt said as he sat next to him.

"I request the captain allow me to take station," Sorak said. He paid no heed to the welcomes, but responded to the commander's report. "A curious phenomena we have encountered." Sorak leaned over the science station, taking in the wondrous readings and tactical layouts of the cloud. He raised an eyebrow, and turned to face the commander. "The Q wish for us to destroy this cloud. It is illogical to take any stance until we know more of what it is. If you recall when V-Ger, your Voyager, returned home, it had erected a cloud about itself. There is no reason to dismiss another sentient lifeform is at the center of that cloud. The Q also have a reputation for rash action, and selfish activities. Unless we are threatened, I dare say we study this in greater detail. Do not find me oblivious to the threat, but we are not going anywhere. We must learn all that we can, in order to better our judgements and actions. My logical conclusion, is this cloud is a weapon, an entity, even a being of a sort, if the Q feel threatened by it."

Loskene: You may take your station, Ensign Sorak. I appreciate your input and do agree with most of your assessments. But Q is the least of our worries at the moment, I believe. We still have crew and colonists to rescue.
Loskene opened a channel to the planet.
Loskene: Number one, how is your work progressing? I trust you have a trusty engineer near by?
<Matthew>
The situation was beginning to worry Loskene. It reminded him of a past mission, a rescue mission on the planet Rova III, which required the evacuation of a whole Federation from the planet, which was quickly incinerating itself in global volcano eruptions. That mission was only partially successful. The Jefferson's transporters did not work fast enough, and many colonists lost their lives. Loskene was only glad that the people down on the planet below didn't have a timetable, but the Jefferson was another story...
Loskene communicated with his chief engineer.
Loskene: Mr. Pudlo, you've done a fine job with the shields, we've made a breakthrough. Now what about our engines? Have you found a way to break out of the gravitational force?
<Pudlo>
Loskene didn't like pestering his crew, but he felt the occasion called for it.

After the meeting, Johnson had asked Captain Voran to show him around the settlement. They were taking a tour around the various buildings outside the ship.
They came to a building where about 20 young children were using computers to learn about different species.
"This is our school." said Voran, "Quite a few children have been born here since the Oceanus crashed."
But Johnson wasn't listening. There was something he had wanted to ask Voran, something that he had noticed from when he first met him, but before now they hadn't been alone.
"Captain, what is your grandson's name?" asked Johnson.
A flicker of understanding and hope came into Voran's eyes.
"Actually, it was Alexander, Alexander Johnson." said Voran.
Johnson's stomach jumped, "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"I was going to, but it was a long shot, it's a common name." replied Voran. "Your grandmother's name is Voran then?"
"Yes." said Johnson. His head was still spinning. He had never known his grandfather, or much about his grandfather. He hadn't expected to find him, least of all here.
"We should go to the doctor and confirm..." said Voran.
This struck Johnson as absurd, "What are the chances of there being two 1/4 El Aurian Alexander Johnsons who have never known their grandfathers whose surname was Voran?"
"I know," said Voran, "but I need to know for certain."
15 minutes later, Doctor Hytt had confirmed that they were in fact related.
Alexander still felt like he had been hit in the head by a Galaxy Class Starship travelling at Warp 9.
"I can't believe this." he said, "This is all so sudden. You're my grandfather."
"Believe me, it hit me pretty hard too." said Voran. "How is your mother? Your grandmother, is she still alive? Do you have any brothers or sisters? "
"My mother and grandmother are fine." said Johnson. Voran gave out a relieved sigh and ran his hands through his hair. "And I don't have any brothers or sisters."
"I have so many questions Alexander. I can't believe you're my grandson. When I last saw you, you were a baby." said Voran.
Alexander was thinking similar thoughts about Voran's appearance. It was very surreal to think that this man was his grandfather when he looked young enough to be his older brother.
"You must have many questions; it can't have been easy growing up without knowing about your culture." said Voran.
"I didn't." said Johnson. "I didn't find out about being El Aurian until earlier this year."
Voran looked scandalised. "Why not?"
"My mother didn't want me to be curious about you. She seemed to think it was dangerous."
Voran sighed. "I think the danger is all gone now. I haven't seen Q since I got here."
"What was the homeworld like?" asked Johnson. It was something that he had been wondering for sometime. He often regretted that he couldn't go there and learn about his people.
"I left the homeworld more than 300 years ago. I never went back. Of course I regret that now. No one ever thought that..." He looked down for a moment, then up again, "But it was a beautiful place. I wanted so much to get off it that I never really realised it until later."
"Are you coming with us?" asked Johnson.
"If you can get out of here, then yes. I don't share Derek's fondness for this place. I lost a home once and I thought I'd lost the second. If you can get out of here, I want to come with you." said Voran.
"I'll fix it with Admiral Loskene." said Johnson.

"Well, sir, I have some ideas that I would need to test out."
"Like?"
Rocket power. the nature of the power dampining in the cloud allows for ore basic forms of energy- they seem to be more efficient."
"So is that a breakthrough?"
"It's an idea. I need to lunch the equivalent of a missile from outside the ship."
"go ahead."
minutes later, Jeff Had it in the transporter room. It looked like a mini sovereign class ship, which is what Jeff wanted it to be.
"Energize."
Jeff went back to the bridge, where he flipped a switch and started ignition. It moved quite quickly, and broke orbit in a few seconds.
"Worked better then I thought." Jeff commented. "fuel usage data is coming back now."

Sorak raised an eyebrow, slightly surprised by the Rear Admiral's view on Q. It was highly illogical to dismiss Q as the least of worries, as it was probably that this was all a test by Q. Even if it was not, Q was strong enough to snap his fingers and rescue the downed crew. Why then, was this probability dismissed? Human's tend to lose logic during stressful times...typical.
"Excuse me sir," Sorak began. "If I may point out a simple possibility. Q is here, this we can be sure. That we have not seen him, is what I presume to be a danger...or a success. Q has demonstrated the power to do as he pleases, and position shifting is one of his simplest traits. If we must rescue a crew, we can prove it beneficiary to him. However, he will most likely demand what I believe you humans refer to as 'an arm and a leg'." Sorak scanned a datapad, and continued. "Allowing emotional attachment to our crew, to be a primary concern is illogical, when it was caused by what we have found here. Basic logic would state we eliminate the source of a problem. Simply stopping its effects is not stopping it at all." Sorak, if he could have felt the need to, would have rolled his eyes in the simplicity of this scenario. What stumped this crew in what decision to make was irrational. At this time, he felt he might be better off on Vulcan with those that could set aside emotion and adrenaline to better their judgements. "I recommend we not jeapordize this ship any further. As Spock once said, the good of the many outweigh the good of the one. It would be illogical to risk this crew, in an attempt to save what seems to be proven we have already lost."

T'Val opened her eyes and saw the marine first lieutenant standing beside her bed, somewhat of a worried look on his face. "I am better," she replied, "but I was trying to sleep. How may I be of assistance, now that I am awake again?"
"Doctor Hytt had informed me that I can walk around if I wish, but that I will have to report back here every two hours for a check-up. I chose to remain here and rest, so that I need less check-ups later."
T'Vall rolled her eyes at the Bolian physician. "As I just explained, I can walk right now if I need to, but I prefer not to just yet to reduce the risks of a fall-back. My nervous system and other muscles have suffered from our crash-landing and they need time to heal. If needed, I can get up, but I prefer to stay here and rest so that I may be of more use later."

At the bridge engineering station, Rayna glared at the Vulcan newcomer. "A good commanding officer never leaves any crew behind," the Romulan nurse-in-training and former sub-commander snapped at him, "and you may or may not have noticed but we already are in jeopardy. If we cannot break orbit, we shall burn in this planet's atmosphere because of our decaying orbit."
She glanced back at what she had been doing, though she still had no clue on how to go about it to get it done since she was hardly a qualified engineer, and then at the Vulcan again. "How about you assist me, rather than giving Admiral Loskene a lecture? I'm fairly certain he knows exactly what Q wants, given the few encounters he's had with Q." She paused and drew in a deep breath. "I have no doubt that the two teams on the surface are working on a way to leave," she added, "and I'm also fairly certain that the admiral has no intention of leaving anyone behind if he can help it."

Jef leaned over at his station, looking at the probe data. he glanced over to Rayna and Sorak. "We're not going o die, at least not today. Our fuel supply will get us out of here if we orbit upside down and use our impulse exaust vents as rocet engines."
"Rocket engines?" Sorak inquired.
"Yes. We can break orbit that way. Physics don't work right in here- an action creates a greater reaction- impulse and beyond don't. They don't work as well for some reason."
"so we can get out." Loskene stated. It wasn't a question.
"Anytime we feel like it- I can have a crew converting the exaust vents in 5 minutes, provided that that's what we want to do."
"What about the probe? It was a nice model." Daya asked.
"I've had it beamed to my quarters. I wanted my desk ornement back."
