Jamey walked onto the bridge after spending most of the early morning in sick bay after his hellish nightmare. His symbiont was indeed ok however; the link between him and his symbiont was broken on a sub-conscious level during his nightmare. Returning to his quarters and conferring with the symbiosis commission back on Trill by sub-space for information about how to prevent this from occurring again, he went into a meditation period with his symbiont to reestablish to the highest degree that sub-conscious link. This link wasn’t a normal thing that even could be encroached upon, however this unknown artifact did affect that link. Jamey was mindful now of this fact and was going to take daily steps to make sure it wouldn’t happen again.
Jamey sat behind his console and gathered information from the shift that had just left. Zimmerman gave his report then after a bit of time Jamey gave his …
“Captain, I’m sure you have seen the report from sick bay … and seen my name on that report. The particulars of my experience are included in that report. Since that time, I have been in contact with my home world, Trill, and have received assistance on how to prevent the sub-conscious separation from me and the symbiont Gaz from happening again. However, this will take a daily … meditation … if you will, to maintain.” Jamey was looking at both the Captain and the Commander during this time and indeed noticed something on both their faces. The look was failure to him and Jamey knew then that he wasn’t alone in the experiences he faced. Continuing Jamey added, “I have nothing abnormal to report from navigation that would be out of routine except for one fact. I wouldn’t have know to check this unless I had my,” looking around for a moment, “dream. I have checked Federation beacon 652, an old style directional beacon. The signal has been absent for the past hour; there should have been four cycles during that time. I have started to search for the next nearest beacon however the signal from that source will be delayed; even if we are able to actually receive that signal. We are not in any danger from missing either of these signals; star references will be sufficient for our navigation. However the only thing that could block that type of directional signal would be if something was between us and the signal blocking our reception.”

Grace was sitting on the outside of a forcefield from Gremmel.
"What is this, that keeps me here?" Gremmel asks.
"It is called a 'forcefield'. We use it to contain guests and crew we feel might be dangerous to us or themselves"
"I am not dangerous. My time is ending. I must depart. I must return to my familar place"
"You will be there shortly, Gremmel. We measure time in hours, minutes and seconds. With seconds are the shortest time and hours being the longest. You should be returning to your familar place in 15 mintues, which isn't very long at all"
Gremmel and Grace kept a conversation going, but suddenly Grace had another vision. The vision was one of the El' Salvador. Crew members were having nightmares, waking nightmares. "Forgive me Gremmel, I must leave you for a moment. I need to contact my Captain about something."
Grace tapped her comm badge =/\=Counselor to the bridge=/\=
Zhuk answered =/\=Yes, Grace=/\=
=/\=I just had a vision of some of the crew on the El' Salvador having waking nightmares. One of them was a vulcan. I never thought that could happen=/\=
=/\=Grace, did you see the actual nightmares?=/\=
=/\=No. It seemed to be five to ten different crews nightmares all in a matter of a few seconds. I was able to isolate any one nightmare.=/\=
=/\=Thank you, Grace we are getting close. We will contact the El' Salvador. Zhuk out=/\=
"Gremmel. Do you know why those who are like me would be having waking dreams?"
"I do not understand what waking dreams are, Grace. Can you explain?"
"I can try. When humans rest, our minds shut down. But, sometimes the mind will continue to think or run. When that happens, we call it dreams. Waking dreams happen to a person who is not resting. It is like seeing something that isn't really there."
"When I first heard your mind, that is what I thought was happening. I was hearing something that wasn't there. But, then I realized you were there, it was calming. I am grateful to you for that Grace."
"I am glad to have helped you, Gremmel. Now, if you could help me understand about these waking dreams, then you could help me!"
"I am not able to tell you why this is happening to those like you, humans you called them. It is not something I have ever had"
"You may be leaving us soon, Gremmel. Perhaps you can think on it and you may remember something. After you leave, you may still be able to contact me."
"I will think on it Grace and tell you if I know anything."
"Thank you, Gremmel!"
Grace concluded her mind contact with Gremmel and thought on the El' Sal's dreams.

"Captain, as of yet, we have been unable to locate the shuttle. I have not been having any problems myself, but several security personnel have reported nightmares or seeing things. I have reassigned them away from sensitive areas of the ship and ordered that they not be armed until we figure out what is going on, but I have not relieved them from duty."
As Parsons finished his report, Nokomis seemed to be talking to someone. She said something about escorting the person to sickbay and then looked as if she was leading an imaginary person onto the turbo lift.
"Lt. Parsons to sickbay," said the CTSO after tapping his com badge.
"Sickbay here, Lieutenant," the duty nurse responded.
"Ensign Nokomis is on her way to sickbay. She thinks she is escorting someone there. I believe she is having some sort of hallucination. Please send a medic to walk her the rest of the way to sickbay and evaluate her condition. Keep me informed; Parsons out."
"A medic is on the way, Lieutenant," informed the nurse.

"We have arrived in system Captain!"
Frek announced as he brought the ship out of warp.
"Tactical, Yellow Alert! We have a rogue shuttle out there somewhere. Begin scans." Zhuk ordered the search, hoping that the missing shuttle wouldn't pose any threat to them. He felt bad for not remembering the newly assigned tactical officer's name.
Captain Jira turned to look at Ops. "Open a channel to the El-Sal."
"Channel open, sir."
Captain Irae appeared on the view screen, larger than life.
"It's good to see you Captain Irae. As you can see, we got here as soon as we could. Grace has been plagued by visions that seem to have come from your crew. Is everything alright?"
<Deis>
"Alright, we'll be careful then. We've brought along the reptillian from the artifact. It seems that he is dying, but he is willing to help us. He claims that he needs to be aboard the artifact before the others come, and we are not quite sure what he means by that. So be on the lookout for any alien vessels approaching."
<Deis>
"We'll set up our away team then. Captain Jira out."

Gremmel sat patiently on the bio bed, his eyes watching all that moved about him. He had managed to make some kind of rapport with this Grace, her way of speaking in his mind was soothing, it reminded him of teh elders. Where were they? What had happened to the Elders - granted the home world was a million light years from here but he had been out of contact for so long. None of his messages were returned, it was as if... He paused not daring to imagine the possibilities. Perhaps if he couldnt raise the Elders he would be permitted to tell these people the whole story. Surely the Elders wouldnt chastise him for ensuring that those in need were not denied the gift they gave - and what greater gift was peace.

The news from the El Salvador wasn’t good. From what Harrias understood, the madness that had claimed the crew of the Angel, and had affected many of the people on the starbase had now spread to the El Salvador. The trill captain sighed before turning to his first officer.
- “Colonel. The El Salvador is to be placed off limits to all crew. She is now under quarantine.” - “Aye sir.” The andorians voice was cold as he confirmed the order. No one liked having to place a ship, especially a friendly one under such a restriction, but as CO, it was his responsibility to look after the safety of his own crew. He dropped his voice as he added, - “I fear it will be one we can lift far earlier than we would like.”
He turned away from his first officer, nominally to indicate that his order should be carried out, but really because he didn’t want the officer to see the hurt that was showing in his eyes. The welcome that he had received from Dr Irae and Commander Savot on his first command had left a lasting impression on his heart, and to desert them in such a way cut deeply inside him.
He had to think of it in a different way, in the proper way. The quarantine was necessary so that his crew could remain unaffected, and be better focussed towards finding a cure. A cure which could then be sent to the El Salvador. Yes, this course of action was the best way that he could help them. He just had to keep reminding himself of that.
He tapped his commbadge, but before he said anything he tapped it again in frustration. It would not help Dr Lorre work if he was checking on her progress every few seconds. As he tried to concentrate on something else, but surveying the bridge, he caught Hrisvalar looking at him with a slightly ‘off’ look on his face. With a drop of his shoulders, the trill tilted his head towards the ready room, to which his first officer nodded.
The pair of them left the bridge quietly, and once inside his office, Colonel Hrisvalar turned to him.
- “Captain, how badly is this affecting you?” - “Well, you’re certainly direct.” He paused. “It is nothing that I can’t handle. It is just difficult. The last mission I faced losing everyone on board, on failing the whole crew and their families. Now I am condemning the El Salvador to suffer alone. A crew that I have commanded, served with and loved. So, it is affecting me badly. However, I can still make the decisions, I can still deal with what is happening. It just hurts Colonel. It hurts bad.” - “If you need me to take over..” - “I will tell you, yes. But it will not be necessary.”
His first officer nodded at him, and left the room silently. Harrias watched him leave, wondering whether his whole crew viewed him as a wreck. He took a deep breath in, and lifted his shoulders high. He had to present a good face for the crew. They needed someone to draw strength from, to be confident in his decisions, and believe that he could sort this situation out. He was damned if he knew how to, but it was his job to try as hard as he could, and give the rest of the crew the confidence to do likewise.
He stepped back out onto the bridge, his heels clicking satisfyingly against the metal floor.] - “Colonel, have we had any luck detecting the shuttle?”

Melain let Gremmel in the hands of Grace. There was very little she could do for him, and the counsellor seemed to have a greater effect on him then any of the medications she could prescribe.
Her scans told her that the Dradrian child was not affected by the virus, a good thing and that her deafness was due to a lack of ossicle bones which implied she had been deaf since birth. The ships computer was programmed to change written language similer to how the universal translator changed the spoken. She'd have to communicate with the child via writting. Melain guided the girl over to a consel and began to type.
My name is Doctor Lorre, what is your name?
a few moments later she had the words translated. The Dradrian stared at the screeen for a moment and Melain wondered if she knew how to read. then all at once she began to write
Masally, am I in trouble?
No, not at all. why where you hiding?
I don't like the other's, they don't like me. I wanted to stay here, people here like me
Of course, Melain thousht, her species follows a Darwinistic code of ethic. Her deafness makes her a weakness in their sociaty.
where is your family? Melain asked
Mom and dad died years ago, my brother died from the sickness the girl wrote, Melain suddenly felt a wave of maternal compassion
I am so sorry, you can stay with me. I must speak with my superiors but I don't think they will mind Melain wrote, she dind't exactly have a place for the girl, but there was always the couch.
Masally smiledI can help you, the other's spoke about you wanting blood samples. I can read lips. I can give you a sample I don't want to be like them
thank you Melain replied, one sample was not enough, but it was better then nothing.
=A= Bridge to Sickbay =A= Their "conversation" was interupted.
=A= Sickbay here=A=
=A= we've placed the El' Slavador under quarintine it would appear that they have been infected by the virus =A+
Then the Improvaline didn't work, Stuart would be very upset, so was Melain. =A= good call, I may have a break through on the virus, hopefully we can lift that quarintine soon enough. Sickbay out=A=
I'm going to need that sample now Melain wrote

While Grace was sitting near Gremmel, she sensed sadness, but it was coming from Gremmel. Then Grace heard Harrias tell Melain about the quarantine on the El'Sal. Grace then knew where the sadness was coming from.
She had always been 'in-tune' to her commanding officer's emotions. She had never had reason to examine why and knowing Harrias' advertion to her ability she was hesitant to let him know she knew more than he thought. But, it is her job to keep the crew emotionally healthy, however, knowing what the answer was going to be, Grace decided to keep her nose out of his business until he asks for help.
Immediately after this decision, Grace sensed something from Gremmel. Just a quick thought, hard to grasp on to. She thought she had heard him say something about elders and peace.
"Gremmel is there something you want to tell me but have been told not to?"
Grace waited for Gremmel to reply.
<any thoughts from any one, I am open to them>

"No Captain. We sense the same readings as the El-Sal about a couple of the nav beacons not transmitting properly, possibly due to some type of interference as the shuttle. However, Captain, I think our priority should be to allow Gremmel to return to the Artifact before it is too late. His offer to help appears to be genuine and he is at death's door."
Zhuk hoped that Harrias was able to remain sensible and in control of command. He would not want to be the one to declare him unfit for duty. Time was surely running out.

::The dimuative statured woman looks from person to person, receiving each report and speaking back in answer immediatly to her troubled bridge crew. Zimmerman speaks first and she watches him as he tells his story and gives his report...damn...two down. At least unless we can move beyond the range of this effect. She nods and says:: I want ye t keep scannin tha [word deleted] artifact out there. I know tha's causin a bit o th problem. Keep on it Kevin...i wan t know about ever possible connection, biological, radiation, energetic, subspace, anythin. ::nodding and then answering to his dream or whatever it was:: It could be a simple abheration...but then it may nae. Iffen it happens again Lt, i wanna be knowin bout it.
::She then snaps her attention to her Nav officer, the next to which her orders will go, nodding to Savot as he takes his station at Ops. She listens to Jameys report...she nods gravely having read the report from sickbay skimmingly....violence in that dream. That brings Savots words to mind again...violence from these talented and well trained people could indeed cause us a hell of a lot of damage. The severing of his trill counterpart troubles her even more deeply...its as unsettling as Savots sudden ranting at noone. She sighs and nods, looking the man square in the face* Jamey...iffen ye 'ave this problem again...i want ye t report it. *she has to say this so everyone will know* I know this isnae yer fault but iffen these dreams begin t interfere wi th safety o th rest o th crew...ill 'ave t relieve ye o duty...fer th time bein. Tha same goes fer every person on this ship tha be havin odd thins happenin. We cannae risk ourselves. Maintain yer meditations...but fer now move us back away from tha thing...try t get us away from these "walls".
::She watches Nokomis leave looking oddly and counts that as yet another, but she lets her go without questioning...the report is right in front of her after all and her condition obviously needs the sickbay. Turning her attention to Parsons she is glad to hear that at least hes not disturbed by nightmares or waking arguments or borg panels inside the walls She wonders how many are left...herself, Parsons, a passel more but will they be enough. His report pleases her...its good that something does:: Good thinkin Parsons....save fer me bridgemen an women, tis good tha we willnae 'ave t worry aboud people seein strange thins in sensitive areas.
::At that moment comes the hail of The Nevada...shes a bit relieved and a bit anxious at the same time to hear from them...worried about the situation here she walks to the screen and hits the comms herself, appearing before Captain Harrias.::
::Deis clears her throat and straightens out her uniform with a little jerk at the hem. Her worry is plain on her face and she sees that expression mirrored on Harrias already. She answers honestly and briefly as possible, concerned for time:: Aye good t be seein ye Captain. Tis glad tha we are tha yeve arrived. We seem t be experiencin a bit o wot took out th Angel...some but not all 'ave been affected. Were constantly monitorin th artifact an our own people t keep thins as stable as possible. Take care when nearin tha."thin" out there. Id destroy it iffen it would stop th dreams.
::She nods:: Understood...i hope th return o this reptile t th artifact doesnae make thins worse. Could be tha hes th key t all o this. ::She looks into the image and says to Harrias in a more personal manner a hint of a sigh in her lilting irish voice:: be ye careful Harrias. Irae out.
::Deis then has the comms cut so that shes no longer projected. She turns to her men and then says* ye heard th man...be on th watch fer tha shuttle an any inbound ships. We defend th nevada if need be. ::she goes on to say more but the comms beep again and she walks over to take in the message over her display...the expression on her face is at first suprised and then angry...she thumps her fist against the console closing out the message and closes her eyes to get ahold of herself...her mind clears after a moment and she looks around to her people:: Weve been quarantined...by th Nevada. Wha e'er problems we 'ave...we will 'ave t see to ourselves. ::Looking to each of her bridge people with her chin lifted...it has the faint feeling of being left out to dry but she knows that Harrias had little choice...it dosent stop the faint resentment though...but she works around it:: Lets keep sharp then aye gents?

Maintain yer meditations...but fer now move us back away from tha thing...try t get us away from these "walls" Captain Deis Irae ordered.
“I sir, moving us back now,” Jamey answered. Using thrusters to slowly move the El Sal back and away from the Nevada that had come along side, the ship cleared. Jamey then brought the ship around and engaged the impulse engines at one quarter impulse. Reacting instinctively, Jamey moved not only away from the Nevada but also moved so that the ship would be at a ninety degree angle from the Nevada’s heading. Jamey didn’t know, at first, where this intuitive thought came from. Then again, it just a short time he knew it was from Gaz and not himself. Jamey’s symbiont had never presented him with a single and separate thought before. Before, Jamey’s thoughts and Gaz’s thoughts were always shared as one; each thinking and sharing thoughts simultaneously. Why now, why have such separate thoughts now; thoughts of continued existence … safety. The Captian, in her orders, didn’t say directly where to move the ship … she just wanted the ship moved away. Jamey didn’t know if he had done something wrong, but Gaz seemed to know that this new position was safer than any other.
The new position of the ship relative to the Nevada’s position, would keep the El Sal crew away from the now apparent searching of the artifact for its keeper. Jamey’s symbiont, Gaz, knew that the farther away from the source they could be would keep them out of harms way.
Jamey was helping the tactical officer search for any approaching ships while dealing with the new voice that was as familiar to him as his own mother’s; yet strange that the voice was singled out in his thoughts.
Jamey turned to the Captain, “Sir, may I talk with you in private?” Deis nodded and they both walked into the Captain’s ready room. “Sir,” Jamey said, “I seem to be having thoughts from my symbiont that I have never had before.” The look from Deis was proof enough that he needed to continue. “You see, when a Trill is joined, the thoughts and memories of each combine into one. After my nightmare, I have been having separate thoughts from Gaz … thoughts of survival.” Deis was just looking at Jamey, he thought that she was ready to remove him from duty. However, she just nodded and Jamey continued. “Just now, you said move us away; I was just going to move us back. But, instinctively I knew that moving the ship not only back but away from the Nevada was safe.” Jamey, with a look of firmness said, “I now that Captain Harrias is a Trill with the symbiont Jira … he needs to know what affect this has had on me so he can take steps to … I don’t know … maybe try to stop this from happening to him.” Leaning in towards Deis to show how important this was to him, “Captain, I can tell you that I’m fine … I can stay on duty. This is strange for a joined Trill, but I feel that Gaz has some type of awareness of what is going on … I don’t know to what level … but the fact that Gaz has these survival thoughts is confirmation … and the thoughts are strong, very strong. Would you please just advise Captain Harrias?”

Gremmel eyed Grace somewhat askew.
"There is much I have not told. There is much I cannot tell, there is much I will not have time to tell"
"I understand but we are here to help."
Gremell paused, "And you must understand I dont have all the answers I have been on the ... artifact you call it for generations. I kept it all running smoothly. Then it stopped, and I feared for Randicore. Then I became ill and no replacement appeared. Then you Angel came they offered help but they acted strangely and thats all I can recall before I blacked out." "But you know more." "I know more yes. But I shall not reveal more. The ways of my people are private and I wouldnt want to break the reverance for the elders. Perhaps if you prove yourselves I can help you more, thats if I live that long..." He trailed off. " I m sorry I m tired I will rest."

- “I appreciate that he wants to help, however at this juncture all that we know is that this artefact is attacking indiscriminately. I would like to believe that when he is returned, he will stop this. However, due to the inherently dangerous nature of the artefact, I can only believe that it was designed as a weapon, and that anyone who would design, or indeed use, as Gremmel claims he does, such a weapon could only be a further danger to us. If he gets back aboard, what is to say that he won’t turn it on us?” - “Nothing Captain. Nothing except trust.”
The trill sighed, his hand rising to his forehead in frustration. Why was nothing ever easy? He paused for a few seconds.
- “Okay, as I see, it is the only option we have. He goes back to the artefact. However, he will be accompanied by yourself, and Cllr Mitchell. If Grace detects that he is lying to us, then you kill him. Make sure he understands that.”
The andorian nodded slowly, perhaps not agreeing completely with his CO, but then and again, maybe he was just feeling the pressure too. Harrias was feeling less and less sure of things now. It seemed… but surely it wasn’t possible for things to be like that. It was like he was disagreeing with himself completely. Not just arguing things out in his mind, but actually whole-heartedly taking both sides of the argument. The only way for that to happen though, was if he became disconnected from his symbiont. But to become disconnected would be much much more painful than this.
His mind spun for a few more seconds before he looked about the bridge once more. Hrisvalar was still stood there, looking at him.
- “Captain?” - “Sorry. I must have… stood up too fast.” He said quietly, hoping it didn’t sound too lame. - “It happens to us all sir.” The XO affirmed. Harrias knew what was behind the words, but he appreciated them anyway. The andorian wouldn’t step in unless it was completely necessary. - “Well there is no time like the present Comman… Colonel. You may leave for the artefact as soon as you are ready. And on second thoughts, take Mr Thelev here with you. Who knows, a pilot might come in handy.” - “Aye sir.”

Melain had just finished getting the blood sample from Masally when she was interupted by the Colonal.
=A= Doctor, Commander Thelev, Counsellor Mitchell and I will be escourting Gremmel back to his ship. Due to the dangerouse nature of this mission we are going to need to take some preventative measures.=A=
=A= The Improvaline the crew was injected with did not work on the El' Salvador crew, so that's not going to be enough. Check in with me before you leave and I'll see what I can do. Each of you should be wearing biosuits, they seemed to work quite well when the Dradrian refugees where aboard.=A= Melain directed
=A= Understood Doctor=A=
Melain turned to her cheif nurse and the EMH "Rachel, prepare three doses of Phetetalin, Tom get decon set up."
"On it." they both replied, and Melain was left with Masally to study the blood sample.

Iffen yer able then resume yer post. Ill send word t Capn Harrias.
::After Jameys left her readyroom she sits back down at her desk. For a moment she looks around. If she were going to experience one of the dreams or hallucinations this would be the place for it. She remembers Vreenaks body laying on that floor, right there...3 feet from where her feet rest now. No oddness of mind grips her and she realizes that she was daring fate to do so. She shakes off the old memories...this is her readyroom now. Not inhabited by ghosts or anything silly like that.::
::She squares her shoulders and begins setting up comms, ringing through to Harrias. When the Nevada puts her onscreen she asks for privacy:: I 'ave information fer Capn Harrias...alone fer th now. ::Shes instructed that they will put it through to his readyroom, and she waits. it isnt long and the screen flips to color again and she sees the haggard face of Harrias before her. She lifts her chin, her expression very blank...the quarantine after all...but she thinks beyond it, to give him the information he needs. He asks in a bit of a hurry:: What do you have Irae?
::She raises a brow and clears her throat:: I promise i dinnae waste yer time Harrias. Me Nav officers discovered sommat i think ye should be knowin. Th trill counterpart O Jamey parker, Gaz...he bees reactin on his own. Th thoughts o th two are seperate an while Jamey says it be hella unnervin...tis come in handy. Gaz seems t be makin decisions on his own, thinkin fer 'imself. This proved useful t Jamey an th El Sal. ::She flicks eyes away from the screen then back to the mans before her:: Watch yerself...yer trill self. Iffen ye notice anythin... ::leaving that open ended. She understand that were in the middle of a mission here and shes sent the information. She shuts down the comms rather curtly and then stands up to leave her readyroom again::

"Sir," announced Kevin, "I think we'll need the Nevada's help with this. The artifact is interferring with brainwaves, I think - I'm not into medicine, really, so I can't be sure - but it would explain everyone's nightmares and the problems with Trills. There's another one on here, besides Lt. Parker, and she reports similar problems. I haven't isolated how it functions or what its caused by, but its almost as if the artifacts broadcasting very strong brain waves. I could be completely wrong, though, since I don't have a lot of experience with this. Sickbay's getting my report now."
Irae nodded. "I'm glad we've got some progress. Send yer infermation t' th' Nevada."
"Aye, Captain," said Kevin. He conferred with the Nevada's science officer for a moment. "They'll inform us if they get anything further. You want to look at it yourself, since you were in medical?"

Stuart went to the sleeping section of the shuttle and pulled out a blanket. He had noticed T'Val shivering and proceeded to cover her with it. She gladly accepted all the while they were making eye contact.
Stuart went ahead and broke the spell by answering her questions.
"I was thinking that very same thing. If you recall from the Angel's logs, they were scanned by a green beam. We already summized that it may be something in the beam that's causing this condition. From what I have observed from the reptilian, I didn't sense that he was hostile really. What if that beam was just a simple scan of lifesigns, technology, etc. It stands to reason that this artifact would act like any other ship and perform such things to determine intent of other vessels and people."<T'Val>"Exactly! Now this is a non federation standard beam from a species that we hadn't encountered yet, it only stands to reason that there are some impurities within it, that weren't meant to cause harm. The virulency of these impurities may be increased by something as simple as exposure to our atmosphere."
Stuart had been rambling on with his thoughts. When he finally finished, he looked up from his notes that he was perusing and saw T'Val sitting across with a slight smile. He gave her a quizzical look.<T'Val>Transferred from section47.proboards18.com/index.cgi?board=SBA&action=display&thread=1123616123&page=4

Upon hearing the news that the El Sal had been quarantined by Captain Jira, the CTSO initiated the recorded quarantine message on all channels.
"Warning: This ship has been quarantined by order of Starfleet. ... Warning: This ship has been quarantined..."
Parsons had been working with the Nav officer to find the shuttle, but Jamey seemed distant somehow. The Trill got up from his station and walked toward the Captain's ready room.
Not long after Jamey had left to speak with the Captain, Parsons received a communication from sickbay.
"Sickbay to Lt. Parsons."
"Go Ahead," said the Lieutenant after tapping his combadge.
"Sir, Nokomis has reached sickbay and the hallucinations have stopped for now."
"Very well, do what you can for her and keep me informed. If and when she is ready to return to duty have her report to me," replied Adam.

"Just like we do when we encounter unknown species," T'Val caught on, nodding. She pulled the blanket closer around her shoulders, wondering if Mercy had thought she had been cold. ~obviously~ she thought. "They may be doing the same to species that are alien and unknown to them." "The virulency of these impurities?" T'Val repeated, "surely someone would not send out a beam at living individuals, whatever their level of intelligence, if it contained something that might possibly harm them? Unless, it would be experimental, and they did not know their beams were contaminated with something." ~he looks....cute when he is concentrating~ she thought absentmindedly, then shook her head to get her mind back on the problems at hand. She paused then stared directly at him. "Stuart, we must get hold of that beam and investigate it. If we can determine what the impurities are, then we can continue to work on a cure!" She then pointed at the main viewscreen of the shuttle. "We are nearing the Angel, we should get ready. I just wonder if there is a copy of this artifact the Nevada crew spoke about is present on the Angel. It would make sense, would it not? At least there should be measurable residue of the beam." T'Val pulled out her tricorder, and attached straps to her medkit so that she could carry it over her shoulder. "Ready?" she asked her human companion. "I think you are either slightly affected or you have missed something in the logs. The artifact appears to be a ship of some sort. It's pyramid in shape and that is where our guest had come from. That's also our best bet for finding any information we may be seeking."
Stuart didn't think T'Val was infected, but not recalling what the artifact was, was quite unusal for this Vulcan.
"Before we go anywhere, I think we need to report in to Captain Jira and let him know what we are doing."
Stuart went over to the comm console and activated it.
-/\- This is Dr. Mercy calling the USS Nevada. -/\-
-/\- Go ahead Nevada -/\-
-/\- I am here with Healer T'Val. Admiral Lin has sent us to help investigate the artifact. Will that be alright, as we want to board it as soon as possible? -/\-
-/\- Hold on Doctor. Let me get Captain Jira for you. We have an away team preparing to board as well. -/\-
There was a pause as the Nevada Ops officer went to summon Captain Jira.<Harrias>

~ “If Grace detects that he is lying to us, then you kill him. Make sure he understands that.” ~
These words from the Captain were reverberating through Zhuk’s mind as he and Frek were on their way to sickbay. They were strong words, coming from Captain Jira. Zhuk knew that the Captain would need to be watched.
Gremmel had activated a button without describing it first. Zhuk did not reach for his phaser, instead he lept over the console and grabbed the reptilian by his throat with both of his hands. Gremmel held onto his arms, struggling for release. Zhuk just kept squeezing. He could feel the pulsing of the throat as air was trying to pass through. The reptilians eyes were starting to bulge. Zhuk could see his lips move, trying to say something. He couldn’t quite make out the word.
“F…Fr…Fre….Frek.”
Zhuk wasn’t sure if he heard right. He loosened his grip a little.
“Frek! It’s Frek! Release me Zhukarak!”
Then Zhuk saw. The reptilian changed faces before his very eyes to become Frek Thelev, Nevada’s helm officer. From behind he could also feel Theel’zhiin squawking and pecking at him until he finally quit and calmed down as Zhuk was regaining his sanity.
“What have I done? What’s happening?”
“You damn near killed me, that’s what happened. Thank the stars we’re going to sickbay because you’ve gone loony.”
Frek had already called ahead to inform Dr. Lorre of this situation. She was standing by with her tricorder in hand.
“Doctor, whatever your diagnosis, I still need to accompany our guest onto the artifact. It is imperative that we are on our way quickly. I’m sure I’ll be fine.”

Lt Cmdr Talla, who was currently pulling about 5 extra shifts a week, was currently the operations officer. When he received the communiqué from Dr Mercy, he had glanced at his captain. For the second time in two missions, he found himself wondering how fit this man was to command, and whether he would have to take over once more. He rose to his feet and slowly approached the centre seat.
- “Captain.” He spoke softly. - “Is that you Marcos?” Harrias questioned back, his voice as soft as Talla’s. - “Ummm. No Captain, it’s me, Lieutenant Commander Lani Talla.” - “Of course it is. I apologise, it’s just that I haven’t heard from Marcos or the others in so long.”
Lani frowned. It appeared that the Captain was worse gone than he had thought. But then, he sounded sane, just lost. Possibly he could still command. Lani had to give him that chance.
- “Captain, we have received a hail from Dr Mercy, the Medical Officer from Starbase Assailant..” - “Yes, yes, I know who he is commander.” - “Of course sir. He, and T’Val are here to render any assistance they can. Admiral Lin sent them.” - “Does he have no damn confidence in us? Very well, tell them to come aboard, and meet me in my office in, say, 30 minutes.” - “Office sir?” - “Ready room. You knew what I meant.” Jira snapped back.
The tall Martian backed away. The captain could still command, but his attitude wasn’t anything wonderful. Talla let his shoulders droop, it was going to be yet another long hard mission. Just before he got back to his post, the captain called out his name.
- “Sir?” - “Do we know if the good doctors are infected?” - “No sir. But given the state of some of the crew already, I really don’t think that is a concern. Sir.” As he spoke, he realised his words were too lacking in tact. The captain’s face screwed up into an angry expression. - “I do not believe that it is your place to judge the mental capacity of the people on this ship Mr[/i] Talla.” He said, placing excessive emphasis on the ‘Mr’. - “Of course not sir. My mistake sir. You still wish to meet them in your ready room sir?” - “I shall take that risk. But have them beam directly there. And isolate the environment inside.” - "Yes sir.”
