The inkiness of deep space was punctuated with small white dots, that in reality were huge centres of nuclear fusion. Scattered through this mass of emptiness, the space between systems hung two inert objects. The USS Copernicus, sickle shaped and battleship grey exited warp gracefully and slowed to impulse. Its running lights blinked in synchrony, the only activity for light years around. Slowly, cautiously, the ship glided up to the two objects. Only those aboard knew that the shields were raised and weapons online. "Status on the Angel?" a controlled and authorative voice requested, "Main power is off-line, no shields, minimal lifesigns." "Minimal" the Bolian at Tactical nodded and ran his fingers over the tactile interface again, "There are 47 crewmembers aboard." "47? The Angel had a skeleton crew of 50. Scan the artifact" The bolian nodded, "Nothing all sensors read negative, as far as I can tell it doesnt even exist." Admiral Drew sat a moment longer in the command chair absorbing the information, "Are they responding to our hails?" "Negative" the Bolian replied, "Although I do read at least 4 people on the bridge." "Alright then Zoilip lets go have a look, ready an Away team" "Aye Sir" the bolian grinned.
***
Slowly the familar shape of an intrepid class bridge appeared before his eyes. Drew waited for the last tug of the beam before stepping forward. He pulled free his Phaser and palm light and checked about him. Zoilip, likewise had his phaser out and had taken up a point position. Lieutenant Gastor stood tricorder in hand whilst Dr Toray brought up the rear. They had beamed in to the conference room of the USS Angel, as the only place on Deck 1 without life signs. "Lets find out whats happening here, phasers to stun" Drew ordered. Taking the lead Zoilip pressed the door release and raised his palm light. He swept it across the bridge, eeire in its quietness and darkness. "RAAAAHHHH" came a cry as a shape came barelling out of the shadows, it threw itself on Zoilip before the bolian could even raise his arm, "Arrgh" he screamed as he felt teeth seize his ear lobe. Drew quickly lowered his phaser and shot the figure, it slumped and rolled to one side, suddenly another and then another shape threw themselves forward, Drew and Gastor swiftly put them down. Toray ran a dermal regenerator over Zoilips ear stemming the gloopy blue blood that oozed from the bite mark. Drew bent and shone his light on the attacker. It was female and wore a starfleet uniform. 4 pips ran along the collar. "This must be Captain Sandra LaTanto" he remarked recalling the commander of the Angel. "Her epinephrin levels are way off the scale, in fact her entire endocrine system is out of whack, and the neurolytic balance of her brain is shot." "Meaning?" "I dont know what caused it, but she didnt know what she was doing, for all intents and purposes shes stark raving mad." "Is that your diagnosis doctor" "As close as your going to get here." Drew nodded, "Zoilip, Secure the bridge. Gastor get me limited power, beam a power unit over if you need it."
***
A short time later partial power has been restored to the bridge. "Do we have internal sensors?" Drew asked, "Yep" Gastor noted, "Begin using security sensors to check on the crew" Gastor began a careful search of a ship, every where he looked he was confronted by madness. A woman sat in the bath in full cloths. A pair of crewman playing tennis with a pair of PaDDs and flash grenade. Four men engaged in a fight. Everywhere Starfleet officers were acting without regard for... anything. "We have casualties on every deck" Dr Toray noted, "But theres no way I m going down there" "I agree. The situation is far too dangerous. Have security and medical on the Copenhagen stand by. We'll beam the crew over a few at a time. Sedate them and we'll take em back to Assailant." "What about the Angel?" "The Copenhagen doesnt have the power to tow her. We'll leave her for a recovery team. Besides I think we may need to investigate the artifact more. Lets beam everyone aboard, check we have everyone and get home".

Back on Assailant the senior staff sat listening to Drews report, "As you can see the Artifact is pyramidal in structure. There are what look like conduits running down the sides. There seemed to be no power but sensors cant penetrate its hull. Captain LaTanto's log stated that they diverted course to investigate it." "Diverted?" Acari asked "Yes the Angel was a SCE vessel. Skeleton crew en route to the salvage yards at Keliana Prime. They diverted to investigate, and sent aboard an away team. They found a comatose body. It was taken back to the ship. Their Doctor could find anything wrong with the patient so they sent the away team back over. Thats when things started to go wrong, first the artifact powered up and then they lost comms to the away team. Captain LaTanto backed the Angel away but was stopped by a green beam that rendered the vessel powerless. Slowly over the following 6 days, strange things happened, people started acting oddly. Then we arrived and found them." "All mad" Zoilip noted, "Mad is a relative term" Dr Mercy stated, "Any other information?" Admiral Magellan asked, "Nope thats it. Dr Mercy whats the latest on the alien we brought back." "Not much. I ve not had chance to examine him. But he is stable and of an unknown species." "Well keep us up dated doctor" "I d like to lead a team back to the Angel Sir" Drew requested, Magellan shook his head, "No. I need you here to co-ordinate matters. I ll assign vessels from the fleet, we have a situation developing on Randicore II so I m suspending many ships current missions and reassigning."
OOC: Okay this provides some of the background to the Dreamweaver Fleet Mission. It also provides background to the next Assailant Mission entitled - Dreamweaver - 'Fugue States'. The other missions will be - Dreamweaver - 'Fallen Angel' and Dreamweaver - 'Something wicked this way comes.'

Okay so far the:
El Salvador
Nevada
will be taking part in the Dreamweaver mission.
Adm Drew on the Assailant Cutter Copenhagen will also accompany.
The preliminarys for this mission are listed in this post. Assailant has already started working on trying to cure the mad Angel crew and the strange visitor.
The mission will begin with both Nevada and El Sal coming to Assailant for mission briefing.
The mission will essentially be in your hands however I plotted the mission carefully and will steer the plot occassionally, I will do this by disclosing bits of info by private PM to those who either start to uncover stuff or are in a postion to find out something.
Once these few facts are released by that character the rest is up to you. You have to find a resolution.

OOC: Its sure its Nokomis - welcome Aboard - Take a seat.
Magellan excused himself from an interminable meeting with the Tholian Ambassador and quickly made his way to Conference Lounge 3. Half way there he realised he didnt have his PaDD and so back tracked to his office. Finally and fully prepared he made his way to the room. The doors slid open. "Sir" came a formal response a woman sat in the room snapped to attention. "At ease..." he paused and peered at her collar "Ensign" "Thankyou Sir. I was beginning to wonder if this was the right place." Magellan grinned impishly, "That depends what your after - if you want the Mission briefing for the El Slavador and Nevada then yes your in the right place, If on the other hand you want bolian food your not." Nokomis retook her seat. Magellan likewise moved round to teh head of the table. "Eagerness like this usually indicates a new recruit" he noted, "How long are you out of the Academy?"

Savot stood across the corridor from the conference room, having turned the corner just in time to see Admiral Lin's back as he entered. Savot regretted keeping the Admiral waiting, but he was unwilling to enter without taking account of the crew beforehand. Having passed Captain Irae's notice along to everyone, he had not doubt they would all arrive soon.
Lt. Parsons, having been on-ship at the time with Commander Savot, had been right there to hear the summons, so he already stood in place next to the vulcan also awaiting the others. There was little time left to wait, however, as Kevin Zimmerman the science chief and Jamey Parker the helmsman both hurriedly walked around the corner, both having been on the first shift of leave and therefore out of uniform making it necessary for them to go back aboard the El Salvador to change before the briefing.
Savot nodded cordially to the two officers, and was about to proceed in when Captain Irae then turned the opposite corner as well. The Captain looked tired, but was holding it together quite well. Savot bowed his head in greeting to her as she strode past the whooshed open briefing doors with that purposefully motion that seemed to mark anyone who became a commander responsible for others.
Clasping his hands behind his back he filed into place behind her, the 3 other men trailing as well. Shikako Kedzie, if indeed she had chosen to remain with the ship, would of course not be present as she was not Starfleet personnel. Mr. Parsons noticed his newly arrived assistant for the first time and as good instinct suggested took his seat next to her to help her feel connected with the team. Savot sat to Deis' right, with Zimmerman and Parker beside him.
Before sitting, Deis stood at casual attention across from the Admiral, nodding congenially to Ensign Nokomis first of all, then turning to face the Admiral, "Welcome t' the crew Ensign. Glad t' be havin' ye on the team. Senior staff o' the El Salvador reportin' as ordered, Admiral." With the official declaration, she took her seat and the crew sat in wait.

Lt. Parsons sat down next to the young Ensign and couldn't help but admire her enthusiasm. She was probably one of the first officers to arrive at a briefing she was not required to attend. Parsons always wanted as much information about his job and mission as possible; it helped him prepare for whatever he and the crew of the El Sal might be up against. He suspected this was the Ensign's thinking as well.
Turning to the young woman, "Ensign, welcome to the El Sal, I am Lt. Parsons, the CTSO."

Jamey hurried from the El Sal to the meeting room now in uniform. He had been walking around the star base looking at all the things available to do on a huge base such as this one. Because the El Sal's staff was taking some much needed rest ... being called so soon to a meeting was a bit unnerving. It didn't matter however, Jamey knew that any leave was to good to be true. Entering the room behind the CO and FO, Jamey noticed a new crewmen ... "Hello, My name is JameyParker, CNO ... welcome to the crew." ***
Not to keep Magellan waiting for the small talk to stop, Jamey winked and nodded to the Ensign and continued to his seat. With his PaDD ... Jamey was ready to take the notes ... at least from a CNO's standpoint.

"Good to see you all" Magellan greeted, "Well that accounts for the El Salvador, we just need the Nevada. Though they have had a unique set of circumstances which will excuse them a little." He stood and crossed to the large display screen. At the moment it displayed an image of the insignia of Starfleet Command. He tapped a few buttons and an LCARS display appeared. Tapping the screen he called up a file and stored it in pause mode. The file depicted a listing Intrepid class vessel beside a strange pyramidal structure. Both seemed inert with only dim running lights showing on the starfleet vessel. At the top of the page was listed the title - Operation: Fallen Angel. "We'll give Mr Jira a little longer and then I ll begin." Magellan noted, "Please feel free to talk among yourselves."

Melain hurried toward the briefing, a hundred things on her mind. She was swamped with paperwork regarding the seemlingly constant deaths of sick Dradrians now under her care, her argument with Captain Jira and dealing with an over worked medical staff. She had ran into one of the ships engineers on her way onto the station, and had asked him about doubling The EMH Tom's program, he had mutterd something about "too many containment fields" and "not enough power" before rushing off again. Instead she was left trying to convince the immune refugees to give her a hand.
The breifing room was already busy, although Melain couldn't see any of the other Nevada crewmembers.
"You must be Jira's CMO, come on in and take a seat Doctor." a standing Admiral directed. Melain nodded in reply and took a seat near the end of the table. "We are still waiting for the rest of your crew, how are things going on board, I heard that you have some company."
"More like an entire population Admiral, things aren't going well, but they could be worse. If you don't mind, I wouldn't mind catching a moment of shut eye before everyone else arrives." Melain wasn't sure this was appropriate, but she was so tired she doubted she'd be able to stay awake for the breifing unless allowed a breif nap.

Kevin was about to send a subspace mesage to some of his friends from the Academy when the meeting had been called. Scowling, Kevin decided there would be plenty of time later. Whatever was happening, it probably wouldn't require the El Salv to set out again. And if he needed to, Kevin could compose the message while en route to wherever the El Salv was going.
Taking his seat, Kevin looked around the room. Only one of the Nevada officers was there - it looked like the CMO - but all of the El Salv officers and the Starbase officers were there. The officer who, based on his posture and his pips - was obviously in charge was probably Admiral Lin. Kevin had never met him before, and had absolutly no idea what he or any of the other officers were like at Assaliant.
Kevin wondered what the new officer's position was, but thought it would be best to wait until the meeting was over to ask. Frankly, he was rather impatient to get it all over with. But from past experiences, Kevin had learned not to rush a senior officer. He hoped the rest of the Nevada would arrive soon.

Zhukarak had been busy ensuring that all of the Dradres had been transferred from the Nevada to the Starbase hospital. Then came the task of having the Nevada refitted and resupplied. They had been gone for months and were in dire need of supplies.
At least Starbase Medical and Science would be delighted in some of the new plant life and fruits that the Nevada had brought back. Maybe some new medicines would be engineered, or the discovery of new life.
Zhuk stepped onto Nevada's bridge where Cpt Jira was finishing his Captain's Log. "Captain Jira, we are going to be late for the Admirals briefing. I know that you and the Admiral are good friends and that he may give us some leeway as to our situation, but I don't think it wise to prolong the wait of our needed presence."
"You are correct, Zhuk. I was just finishing up my log and I had to oversee the computer core updates. I'm ready. Speaking of overseeing, how did the transfer of our patients go?" Cpt Jira rose from his Captain's chair as he asked the question. While talking they entered the turbolift together, making their way to the Starbase conference room for the briefing.
Zhuk had explained how some of the Dradres needed security details as they were the ones who were immune, and they didn't understand why they were being held here. Security was going to be busy, as was Starbase Medical.
Finally they had arrived at the briefing. The Admiral came over to offer his hand to Cpt Jira, "Harrias! I hope all is well? Colonel Hrisvalar, I see that being First Officer becomes you. I'm glad to see it."
"Thank you sir, although under the circumstances it is not a position I hold lightly. Cmdr Steve is still in a coma, from what I understand." Zhuk was referring to Nevada's past First Officer.
"Yes, I know. Rest assured, he is in good hands here with Dr. Mercy." Admiral Lin was pointing over to the doctor who had walked in during their conversation, and then sat himself down next to Dr. Lorre.
"Please gentlemen, have a seat so that we may begin."

Stuart had reached the conference room, for the briefing. He saw the Admiral in conversation with a Trill Captain and an Andorian Colonel, presumably Cpt Jira and LtC Hrisvalar of the Nevada. Having already checked the LCARS database, it wasn't hard for Stuart to locate Dr. Lorre, the Bajoran CMO of the Nevada. She was sitting at the table in a relaxed position, with her arms crossed, and eyes closed.
Stuart sat down next to her. He wasn't sure if he should bother her or not. Then again, she was here for a meeting and not a beautynap.
"Uh, excuse me Dr. Lorre." She was slightly startled and opened her eyes. "Yes?" Came her short reply. "Hi! I'm Dr. Stuart Mercy. If you don't mind, I have a problem that I would like to run by you after this briefing. I mean considering where you just came from, I'm hoping that you could help shed some insight. Provided that you aren't deploying right away, that is."
"Oh, alright. Let's see what this briefing entails, then we can see what I can help you with, if I can help." They both starightened up as Cpt Jira and LtC Hrisvalar took their seats, and the Admiral was about to start.

Grace entered the conference room shortly after Harrias and Zhuk. She noticed Admiral Lin was just beginning to speak. She attempted to slip in the first empty chair quietly but the Admiral had noticed her anyway.
"My apologies for being late, sir. I was detained. I thought I saw someone I haven't seen in a long time. I am Grace Mitchell, Nevada's counselor".

The trill commanding officer had been extremely surprised when he had seen Colonel Hrisvalar enter the bridge when he was just completing his log. However, after a few minutes, he had managed to get the marine first officer to explain what had happened down in the shuttle.
Lorre had gone down to the shuttlebay straight after her argument with the captain. Zhukarak mentioned that although she was kind and friendly towards the aliens, he had the impression, as he was sure that they had, that she was not going to give up. After a few minutes of talking, the hostages had been released easily, the Dradrians apologising for keeping them cooped up, but saying they had felt it necessary.
Now, sitting in the briefing room, having been greeted by Admiral Lin, Harrias was wondering why he hadn't got any sleep as he had been advised. But then, wasn't that the life of a starfleet captain? Very little sleep, and a lot of stress. He smiled a wry smile at the thought, and then looked down at the PADD. He knew most of the information already, as he had spent most of the night reading it. All that had been added since then was the discoveries of the Nevada, and how these could correlate with the situation on the Angel.
He glanced up again when Magellan started to speak, but almost instantly he had paused again as Grace slipped into the room, closely followed by Frek and Vicente. Harrias paused at that thought. He thought of most of the senior staff by their first names, but for the recently awoken science officer, it was still the surname that came to mind first. He put the thought out of his mind as Magellan started speaking once more, now that the whole of the senior staff from the Nevada had arrived.

"Now everyone is present I d like to begin this briefing. Admiral Drew was due to take part as well but... well the Nevada's delivery with a whole ship load refugees has put quite a strain on Base Operations." Magellan crossed to the displayed image, "This is the USS Angel. Formerly part of the S47 fleet but reassigned a few years ago to act as a supply ship along the Cardassian Border. She was found adrift some 10 days ago. She was at minimal power and missing critical components. Her crew, when boarded were found to be alive but completely insane. They are now under Dr Mercy's care here. This..." he changed the view to show a pyramidal shaped artifact 3 times the size of the Angel. "This is an unknown artifact found beside the Angel. It appears they discovered it and sent away teams aboard. In fact even know 4 people from the Angel are missing - presumably still aboard the device. We have only one clue - In the Angels sickbay was an unidentified Alien. He was brought back here in a state of coma. However several hours ago he awoke and ran amok, we have him under custody again but he still isnt speaking." Magellan paused, "We ve been hard pressed in this sector. The Jefferson and Victory are still mediating the dispute at the peace conference. The Raven and Scavenger are light years away. Thankfully you both returned. I am assigning the El Salvador and Nevada to a slavage mission. Captains Jira and Irae, you and your crews are to proceed to the Angel, determine what caused the system failures, determine if the artifact is dangerous and try and discover what happened to the missing away team." Harrias stirred in his chair, "Yes Harrias?" "Its nothing really sir. Just that the Nevadas been on one hell of a mission and... well does this really require two ships." "It does indeed. The artifact is an unknown commodity and as soon as I read you encountered a similar device the Nevada was on the list. There is also another matter that may need an additional vessel. I ve been receiving reports from Randicore of civil disturbance, it may be related, it may not. Either way I may need a ship in the area." "Randicore III" Deis noted in surprise "But thats a pacifist planet" "Exactly" Magellan noted earnestly, "There have been reports of rioting and murder rates are up 200%. Captain Jira has seniority in the mission, but should combat be involved that will change to however retains Tactical superiority. Just before I hand over to Dr Mercy to tell you about our alien visitor are there any questions?"

::Deis sits back in her chair hoping this will suffice for missing Magellans office hours. Repairing the El Sal and offloading that many confused Darvonian refugees took time that she didnt know she was spending. On top of that is the recurrant memory of that girls face before she...what. She didnt die. She shakes herself from thoughts that have nothing to do with the current briefing and takes a scanning look around the room...she sees one expression reflected on many of the faces...exaustion. Including her own.::
::Once the chairs are filled she listens along with the rest of the rather large grouping and when the chance for questions comes up she stands and speaks* Sir. Anythin tha goes near this "artifact" has been goin a wee bit bonkers. Wha is t be sayin tha we willnae experience th same fate? Be it a type o radiation? Iffen so then tha must be dealt wi before th salvage can begin. ::wanting to get some firm idea of what were dealing with here, thinking thats part of the job, figuring out the artifact::
::In her experience, which has recently become rather broadened, unknown alien artifacts tend to be dangerous at best and catestrophic at worst. Extreme caution should be used when dealing with something like that. Appearances are deceptive and one never knows what explosive forces can be set in motion.::
::her new ensigns questions reinforce her own and she smiles faintly::

<Answers to Deis Irae’s and Ensign Nokomis’ questions …>
Waiting until the Admiral was finished with his answers, Jamey was remembering another smaller but just as important artifact, The Stone of Gol. Standing to address the room Jamey asks, “If I may, there was a Vulcan artifact some years ago found called the Stone of Gol. To add a bit of information before I ask my question, it was a resonator of aggressive thoughts; with all minds cleared of that … peace made the weapon useless. The artifact was really in three parts, all harmless until put together. How do we know that this artifact is just one part … or assembled and ready to complete its purpose? Also, it would be to our advantage to find its, for a lack of a better more technical word, off switch; maybe its something like the Stone of Gol’s … thinking differently.” Jamey didn’t want to get into another situation so similar to the one the El Sal just got out.

"An excellent question, most of which I have no answer too. The alien in question is a complete unknown. Dr Mercy will brief you on his physiology. All I can tell you is that Captain LaTanto (of the Angel) found him on an away mission inside the Artifact. He was comatose and they brought him aboard to treat him... unfortunatly her own crew went mad long before they could help him."
Magellan paused and Jamey Parker half raised a hand and spoke. Jamey like Magellan and Harrias were all trills, it was strange Magellan thought he spent solittle time with his own kind, how long had it been since so many Trill had been on Assailant.
"Oh indeed" he agreed with the young Lieutenant, "The stone of gol was an ancient and powerful device but this one seems older and far far larger and with what the Nevada found perhaps part of a network. What I dont want is another Gateway Incident although scans suggest it isnt Iconian in design. If there are no more question Can I perhaps ask Dr Mercy to come up explain the medical situation and then you can depart."

Harrias nodded as his superior was talking. - "Indeed, we especially don't want another gateway incident. We're quite happy to be in the right quadrant at the moment!" He smiled. "But that wasn't my main point. I would just add, that although I had failed to include it in my report, the virus that has been affecting people near the artefact that we found seems to be DNA specific, or something like that, I'm not sure, Lorre?" - "You got it right captain. The virus didn't affect some alien races, and although I have not had time to investigate it completely, I believe it is very closesly connected to the DNA structure of the race, or person involved. Obviously, we're not sure if the two virus' are connected, and thus this may have no relevance to our problem here, but it remains." Jira waited for her to finish, and then continued. - "My hypothesis is that these two are connected, and that possibly the missing crewmen from the Angel are personnel who were immune to it, and thus for whatever reason, ran away. Possibly the crew was so mad that they turned on their non-infected crewmates. I have not yet had the time to investigate who is missing, and what races they are, but it was something that I though I would throw into the fold. Sorry, you may continue now Doctor Mercy."
He looked at the crew of the El Salvador sitting on the other side of the table. So few familiar faces, and yet he had commanded, and served on that ship only just over two years ago. Deis Irae and Savot were still there of course, he suspected that they wouldn't be leaving the El Sal for a long time to come. However, much of the rest of the senior staff had changed, and there were many people he didn't know. Jira sighed, he was getting old...
