S'reena gazed over at Bates. "Commander, do you think you can manage alone? I really need to go catch some sleep, before I will be forced to take a few days leave by our dear CMO. Since I don't want to take up leave, I need to go now, even though I have three hours of shift left."
"Go ahead, Commander. I was able to handle the Engineering Department for an entire Starbase. I can handle a few Cadets," he said, and chuckled. "Go rest. You've got three miniature children hanging from your stomach. You deserve the break."
A few minutes later, the simulations for the probe were complete. "Well, I'd say that's adequate for our needs. Now, enough simulated work, time for some hands-on labor. We need to get a probe modified to fit these specs," he said, gesturing towards the frozen simulation.
"Probe storage and launchers are on Deck 10, so we'll work on them there. Onward to the turbolift," he said, and waved toward holodeck arch and door as he headed toward them.
---------------------------Main Engineering---------------------------
Shelby approached Lt. Bates. "Lieutenant, I'm done with the repairs and would like to go to sick bay to get the test results on my eye from Doctor Black."
"Alright Cadet, go ahead," Lieutenant Bates replied, "I'm sure we'll find some way to manage without you," he said, chuckling, and sent the Cadet on his way.

Hannah entered the room with the rest of the group. There were the launchers at the far end of the room and all the probes lined up in rows connected to the launchers. Hannah walked over to the console and requested the computer transport two probes (a type 4 and 6) to the open space in front of them so they could work on them.
Then Hannah grabbed a tool kit and got to work on opening up the type 4 probes container with the help of Soaringstar. Capps and Bates worked on opening the type 6 probe up.
It took a few minutes for her and Soaringstar to open the probe up and they started to remove the old shield emitter and any other devices that would not be need for this mission, so there would be room for the new shield emitter to be placed into the probe. When her and Soaringstar had removed all the non-essentials components, she turned to the two men working on the other probe.
“Are you ready to input the new shield emitter?” she asked Bates and Capps. She knew once they’d installed the type 4 shield emitter in the probe, she would then have to interface with it and input the shield frequency she had found during the simulation.
She hoped that the vortex would act about the same as on the holodeck and the probe would survive at least as long as she predicted and they could communicate everything they needed to with the Matheson.

Once back in her quarters S'reena didn't waste much time on getting a shower and changing into her sleeping atire. She was almost instantly asleep as soon as she was lying down. She had been extremely grateful for Commander Bates to let her leave, while she actually needed to supervise Soaringstar. Yet she trusted Bates to do it for her after she had sent the Klingon cadet back to join the project group.
Several minutes later, she sat straight up in bed again, her face contorted with fear. She was experiencing a brief but stabbing pain in her abdominal region and she feared that she was going into labour. ~not possible~ she tried to calm herself ~I'm only seven months pregnant. It's just the unborn kicking me, nothing to worry about~
But no matter how she tried, she didn't get back to sleep. She also couldn't haul herself out of bed as her body was too tired to co-operate. At last, with difficulty she reached over to her intercom. "S'reena to sickbay. Doctor, could you please stop by my quarters? I'm having trouble sleeping, yet I'm too tired to walk anywhere. I really need to sleep doctor......."
<Black>
~~~~~~~~~
Commander Dharma Meri stiffled a yawn as she walked onto the bridge. She'd been called on duty three hours early to cover for the pregnant first officer, and she scowled as she took her seat next to Rear Admiral Drew, whom she hadn't even met yet.
She gave him the quick look-over and finally nodded in some sort of approval. "So you're the new commanding officer?" she querried, in a not too polite manner which wasn't her way anyway, "I'm Commander Dharma Meri, night watch first officer. Also covering for Commander Hope when she's indisposed." The Trill snorted with semi-contempt; she didn't like the Romulan first officer and the feeling was mutual.
Hannah moved away from the probe which they had been working on and towards the computer console as she started to think about reconfiguring the deflector dish to a frequency so that it could transmit to and from the probe. As she moved she felt dizzy and weak. She closed her eyes for a second trying to steady herself. She realized she was staving and very tired. She’d been on shift for hours and hadn’t eaten for a long while. She tried to think about how long ago it actually was when she’d eaten but just couldn’t think when. Hannah returned her focus back onto her work thinking about it just made her stomach rumbling worse. She had work to and this wasn’t the time to take a break while the Matheson was still trapped.
Her mind went back to looking over the deflector specs that she had just made appear on the screen. She wasn’t an expect in this field, but tried her best. After a few minutes looking over them she decided that she could do with some help, from someone who might know more about this field.
=/\= Cadet Stevenson to Cadet Shelby =/\=
=/\= Shelby here =/\=
=/\= I would like your assistance in the probe launcher room on deck 10, to reconfigure the deflector dish for communications with the probe =/\=
<Tag Shelby>
Hannah started to work on her ideas waiting for the other officer to arrive. She looked forward to working with Shelby again in this project. She knew she liked him and more she worked with him and the more she got to know him, the more she liked about him. They worked well together as had been shown in the simulations Noah had given them a few hours ago. Hannah hoped after this incident was over they could would finally get a chance to go on a date together.
As she stared at the console she found it difficult to concentrate and found the word merging into one on the screen as her eyes struggled to stay open. She closed them for half a minute and then reopened them forcing them on concentrate on the data on the console. She knew she was tired and hungry, but her work came first and her work was to rescue the Matheson. Hannah wanted to impress Noah and leaving her post and her work to get some rest wouldn’t impress him, she wanted to show him she was a good engineer and would work hard and not give up.
As she continued to work, she realised that there were a lot of security protocols due to communications network. Soaringstar was busy working on the probes with Noah and Calvin. The only other security person she knew of Tyroon.
Hannah had hear about the incident on the holodeck and wasn’t certain if he would be well enough to return to duty, but she thought it was worth a try.
=/\= Cadet Stevenson to Cadet Tyrron =/\=
=/\= Tyrron here =/\=
=/\= If your feeling well enough, I could do with your expertises on communications security protocols in the probe launcher room on deck 10 =/\=
<Tyrron>
Hannah closed the communication channel with tyroon and turned her attention back to the computer console and her work. As she worked, she felt herself feel dizzy again and grabbed hold of the console with her hand trying to keep her balance. Her eyes when blurry and she could barely see the console in front of her. She rubbed her eyes trying to get her vision back, but it didn’t work. She looked around as she heard the door open, she saw a figure enter but her eyes were so blurry she couldn’t see who it was.
She then felt herself fall backwards and reached out with her last bit of energy and tried to grab hold of the console. But her hand smashed against the console that she tried to grab. Her arm had hit the console very hard and blood was pouring from it onto the floor where it lay next to her motionless body. But she felt so pain as her arm as it was going numb like the rest of her body. She lay on the floor looking up as a figure leaned over her saying something to her, which she just couldn’t make out. She stared up at the figure trying to make out who it was but couldn’t, her eyes continued to close despite her best efforts to stop them. A few second later everything went black and Hannah lay motionless on the floor.
Joan notices that Commander Hope leaves, and is replaced by the night FO, and she decides to keep her thoughts to herself. She realizes that her scans are going no where, and starts to feel a little impatient for the probe's readings. She notices that Grayson is doing very well, and smiles, but only for a second. She then sees an energy spike.
"Cadet, you have an incoming energy spike." She says not looking away from her pannel hoping he sees and dissolves it before it becomes a critical problem.
<Grayson>
Suddenly Joan notices a few things that could be trouble for the ship. She taps her commbadge.
=/\=Earth to Whillis, I don't know what you are doing up there, but we have a few space objects that could be big trouble if we don't avoid them. Wake up man.=/\=
"S'reena to sickbay. Doctor, could you please stop by my quarters? I'm having trouble sleeping, yet I'm too tired to walk anywhere. I really need to sleep doctor......." came the tired voice over the comm.
"No problem, Commander," Jason replied. "I'll be right over," he said, and picked up a med kit on the way out the door. "Deck 2," he said, as he entered the turbolift.
A few minutes later, he was at the Hope's quarters. Kahlan answered the door. Jason crouched down. "Hello Kahlan," he said smiling. "Your mommy sent for me, can I come in?"
Kahlan stepped aside and let him in. After he stood, she stuck her hand up at him. He took it, and was lead over to S'reenas room. "How are you feeling, S'reena?" he asked, placing the medkit down on the nightstand and pulling a chair over.
"I'm having sharp pains," she said, feeling her abdomen. "It feels like the triplets, but it's too early for that, isn't it?"
Jason pulled a tricorder from his belt, and scanned her. "Looks like you just had a false alarm. That's particularly common in Romulan-human births, and you have a difficult history to begin with." He then decided to lighten the mood. "On a different note, it appears your larger son is underneath the two smaller babies, as if supporting them. We've seen this before, and it's usually due to gravity pulling on the heavier child. Most likely he will be born first."
He opened the med kit, and pulled out a hypospray. "This should help with the pain, and won't affect the Triplets," he said, and injected her.
"Thank you, Doctor. I appreciate the house call," she said smiling.
"Any time," Jason said, packing up the med kit, and then stood. "Just don't make me have the delivery be a house call," he said chuckling.
She smiled at that, and he left her quarters, heading back to Sickbay.
Nick continued at his post, getting back into the routine of it. He even dared to look up at the viewscreen with the vortex when his instructor spoke quietly but urgently to him: "Cadet, you have an incoming energy spike."
He looked back at his panel and saw the energy spike coming. *What do I do?* He began to panic slightly, but forced himself to do his job. He didn't have time to find out where the spike had come from, so he decided to dump the energy into the non-necessary systems he had shut off earlier, including the holodecks. More energy came however, so he dumped more of it into the emergency reserves. More of it came and he couldn't figure out where to put it. Then he heard his instructor notify the Navigation Cadet of the incoming space objects and put more energy into helm and tried his best to smooth any more of it that came. Luckily, the spike was ending just as quickly as it came, and he was able to put it all back where it had been. But this time he decided to be more careful where he put it, not wanting to fill any one system up too much unless absolutely necessary. *And no more daydreaming at the vortex* he scolded himself.
After he was sure all was back to normal, he typed a quick message onto his board and sent it to his instructor, not wanting to disturb the rest of the bridge crew. Thanks, Ma'am, for the warning. I wasn't paying attention. Sorry. I'll be more careful in the future.
Then he began to settle back into his routine, albeit a more careful and watchful routine.
Jason was heading back to Sickbay on the turbolift from the Hope's quarters when the comm went off.
=/\= Cadet Shelby to Doctor Black please come to my current location Hannah has collapsed =/\=
He tapped his commbage. "On my way, Cadet," and closed the channel. "Computer, locate Cadet Shelby."
"Cadet Shelby is on Deck 10, Section 22."
That was the Probe section of the ship, as Jason recalled. "Redirect turbolift to that section," he said, just as it was about to stop on Deck 5. A few minutes later, he came in to find Cadet Stevenson laying on the ground, with her arm bleeding significantly. "What happened?" he asked Shelby.
"I'm not sure," he said, looking down at her. "She just fell over, and hit her arm on a console.
Jason pulled out a tricorder and scanned her. "Slight inflammation of the brain tissue. She probably got dizzy and lost her balance. That's a pressure blow on her arm. She hit her arm so hard the skin and blood vessels broke. I can treat her, but not her. Computer, emergency transport. Two to beam directly to Sickbay."
A moment later, Jason and Hannah reappeared in Sickbay. Rachel came over. "What happened?" she said, helping lift her onto a biobed.
"Brain tissue inflammation, hard blow to the arm when she collapsed. Shouldn't be too serious to treat."
Rachel began healing the wound, while Jason prepared the anti-inflammatory. He hoped this would work, as he didn't feel like minor neurosurgery today.
About half an hour later, Hannah's eyes began to open. Jason stood over her. "Welcome back, Cadet."
OOC: Joint post between Commander Joan McCormick and me.
=/\=Earth to Whillis, I don't know what you are doing up there, but we have a few space objects that could be big trouble if we don't avoid them. Wake up man.=/\=
Jack snapped up and looked at his sensor read out and saw the objects. He had ben focused on traversing the safest path that he had forgot to check for debris. He fired the deflectors and turned the ship slightly and avoided the debris by just enough. He turned back on his prearanged course.
=/\=Thanks Commander,=/\= he said to Joan.
He shifted his attention back to his scanners and this time looking for debris as well. ~Where did all this debris come from?~ he asked him self silently. He used the deflectors several times along with his manuevering to avoid any collisions and still managed to stay on a pretty straght course.
Jack remembered about something that he had in his pocket. He had meant to give it to Commander McCormick but things had gotten busy real fast. He sudenly thought of a way to get the gift to her but it might get him in trouble. he started manipulating the controlls and shut down parts of his station that he was not using while leaving the parts he needed fully funtional. He tapped his cmabadge and opened a chanel to McCormick, =/\=Commander my station has lost nearly all power.=/\=
=/\=Okay, cadet, I will be right there to check it out. =/\= She turns to her cadet, and tells him to carry on without her. She also says where she will be, and that she shouldn't be long.
Jack waits for her to aproach and pulls a small box out of his pocket. When she gets there he hands it to her hoping she will like it. He had done some research on the instructors and seen her birthday had come and gone and thought he would be nice and give her a gift. He looked up at her, "I actually just wanted to give you this and wish you happy birthday Ma'am," he says blushing slightly and powering up his station.
She realizes what is going on and chuckles. "Thanks, cadet, did you want me to open this now, or wait until later?" She says wondering what it could be as she takes the box from him.
Jack smiles and is slightly relieved that she is not mad at him fo the deception. "You can do either, Ma'am, it is up to you."
Joan's smile widens as she opens the little present, and then it slowly fades as she realizes what has just happened here. Inside the box she finds a gold chain decorated with several topazes all around it. She blushes a little, but suddenly she realizes that this isn't the time or place to talk to him about what is going on.
"Thanks, I appreciate your gift and recognition of my birthday. I have to be returning to my station now, and I am glad that yours if working properly." She says quickly trying not to rush off to her station, but to move quickly enough as to make it seem like there were more important things to be done.
Jack sees her leave and feels really stupid for havin done that. Well to late now just have to move on. He returns full focus on his work and deal with social life later.
Hannah slowly opened her eyes; it took them a minute to adjust to the light. She saw a figure leaning over her who she recognized as Dr Black.
"Welcome back, Cadet," he said. She looked around realizing that she was in sickbay.
Hannah tried to think back to what had happen, she remembered being in the probe room working with Soaringstar on one of the probes. But after that it was a bit of a blur, she tried to concentrate to see if she could remember anything else. Then out of instinct she pulled her arm out from under the cover and looked at it. She had expected to see something, but there was nothing there.
“What happened?” she asked worried that she couldn’t remember, “How long have I been out for?”
John, while sitting behind the helm Cadet watching his piloting skills, had a huge grin on his face about the gift for the instructor.
"Cadet, you may want to watch your drift in this vortex ... a ship acts more like a raft in a swift current rather than a ship in space here in all this gravity" John suggested to his smitten Cadet.
Jack snapped back to his controls and attended to this new problem.
"OK Cadet ... we need to get the ship into a position to launch the probe ... and then positioned to retrieve the data. You will need to ask OPS what position the ship will need to be in ... if it is possible. I would suggest that you also streamline the deflector shielding to allow us to cut through each gravity wave ... I don't think that the internal dampeners can handle another jolt like the last one."
John suggested, " ... Oh ... and Cadet, just as a observation, you may want to handle that type thing during your off time ... at the very least ... not during a traverse through a vortex" John's smile indicated to the Cadet that he wasn't getting in trouble ... but ... he got the point.
"Report back to Deck 10, Cadet. We need to get this probe finished, and with Hannah down, we're short one person to work on this thing," Bates replied.
"Yes sir, I'm on my way," Shelby responded.
Bates, with Capps' help, placed the shield emitter from the Type 4 probe, and placed it into the Type 6. Just as they were finishing up connecting it, Shelby came in.
"Welcome back, Cadet. Help us finish configuring this communications probe so that we can launch it toward the Matthew. We need to finish calibrating the shields, and make sure the communications array within it is still working."
“What happened?” Hannah asked, “How long have I been out for?”
"Only about 40 minutes," Jason replied. "For reasons I'm not entirely sure of yet, although it was most likely stress, you had a slight inflammation of the brain tissue, which made you dizzy and caused you to collapse. You hit your arm really hard, which we've treated, and you lost consciousness. We've repaired both problems, and you're all set to return to duty whenever you're ready."
<Tag Hannah>
After Hannah left, Jason headed back to his Office, and used the projections of the Hope triplets to plan the growth hormone regimen that would be necessary to aid the size of the two smaller babies.
Working on tasks like this, Jason couldn't help but wish he had a family of his own. He was the exception in the family whenever they got together, the only one without a spouse and children. Perhaps Joan might be the one to help fulfill that dream.
Looking up her record, he noticed that, unlike last time he checked, her exact birthdate now appeared. His eyes widen; her birthday was yesterday! He hadn't known, but he had still missed it. She wouldn't be too happy about that. He had to make up for it somehow....
Having returned to her station, she sees that everything is still in one piece. She realizes it is going to be pretty hard for the helm to keep flying without seeing any gravity wells or gravitons hitting the ship, and she has an idea.
"Cadet Grayson, the helm needs help, and I want you to help them. Pretty soon they won't be able to see graviton bursts and gravity wells. Make sure they know where those are." She says hoping that this will help.
After Shelby contacted Commander Bates he started to go straight to Deck 10.He made his way there in about 12 or maybe 13 minutes later.
When he arrived he felt extremely bad and wanted to just sit with Hannah but he knew he had to work.When he walked into the room he seen the Commander and Capps.Then the Commander welcomed me and then he told me what he had done and what there was left to do.
The Commander started finishing the shield and Capps started helping me with the communications array.As we started to work I decided to ask him some questions about himself seance I only really knew Hannah.
He asked Capps some questions about himself.
(OFF:Just post stuff about you.)
<Capps>
After that Shelby told Capps about his past and his eyes and why he lived with his grandma for so long.
After all that they started to get to work It looked like the Commander wanted us to work more than talk but thats why we started to work.After a minute or two of testing communications array it looked good so we turned it over to the Commander to check our work.
OOC:
I just wanted to say, I may not be able to post until Thursday or Friday night with Thanksgiving and all going on. I know that the "On Leave" thread is for 3 days or more, so I figured I'd mention it here.
IC:
Grayson sat at his post, fully into his routine, when his instructor returned from wherever she had gone and said to him: "Cadet Grayson, the helm needs help, and I want you to help them. Pretty soon they won't be able to see graviton bursts and gravity wells. Make sure they know where those are."
"Aye, Ma'am," Nick said, not knowing exactly what it was he had to do. He knew he had access to scanners and all them things, so he turned them on, paying careful attention to not loose track of his other duties. He set them to scan for such things as graviton bursts, gravity wells, and any anomolies or phenominon that might be best avoided. Then he told the computer to beep at him (quietly of course) whenever anything was detected.
As each thing was detected, he made sure it wasn't just some inconsiquential thing, and if it was something of substance, he sent a notification up to the helm station: both Cadet Whillis at Helm, and to his instructor, *Graxen I believe is his name.*
Nothing real big ever came up, but he still sent them to Helm. He also gave another slight boost to scanners, Helm, and engines. And another slight reduction of non-necessary systems, being careful this time after the power spike earlier.
No important messages came in either, so he settled back into routine, with this new thing with the scanners added to it. It was a little overwhelming, but as long as nothing big came up, he knew he could handle it.
Hannah listened to what had happened trying to remember, but only a few snap shoots came to her. This worried her a bit; she hoped it all would come back to her soon and she would know exactly what happen. She wanted to ask the doctor if it was normal, but prospect of returning to work distracted her from the question.
“Thank you,” she said to the doctor as he walked away. Hannah pulled herself out from under the covers and changed back into the uniform. She noticed the blood stain on the arm of her uniform and decided that she better go to her quarters and change before returning back to duty.
She exited sickbay and arrived in her quarters a few minutes later. She decided to get a quick snack while she was here, she might not get chance for a while and she was staving.
“Cheeseburger,” she said to the replicator and a moment later it appear on a plate in the dispenser. She lifted it out, took a bit and then placed in it on the table while she changed. Hannah threw her dirty clothes in the dispenser, press a button and they disappeared of to get washed. Then she took the cheeseburger and headed out of her quarters.
A though crossed her mind as she stepped in the corridor of where the commander, Capps and Soaringstar would actually be. She had been unconscious for quite a while and couldn’t even remember where they were actually up to before she clasped.
“Computer locate Commander Bates,” she ordered taking another bit out the burger.
“Deck 10, session 22,” the computer said, so they were still the probe room. She walked over to the closest turbolift and requested that session of the ship.
Hannah stood outside the room finishing of the cheeseburger quickly before entering. She moved over to where the others were stood engrossed in their work.
“Where are you up to?” she asked keen to get back to work, “What can I do to help?”
Meanwhile in the Ready Room…
For the last few minutes, Drew had been busy in his private office reviewing the various reports that was coming in from each department. With the noise and clutter of the bridge, Drew often found it was much easier to disguise reports in the peace and quiet of the ready room. For some reason, he was also feeling incredibly tired, and for the last hour had been longing for a nice cup of tea, and a long rest.
Glancing at himself in the nearby holo-mirror, he was shocked at how tired he looked, he had crows feet under his eyes, and his cheeks looked shaggy and dry. He couldn’t help but notice the greying of his hair. All signs of stress and age, he told himself, as he accessed another report.
“Bridge to Admiral Drew, Engineering reports the probe is ready for launch,” Graxen reported.
“Understood Commander,” Drew replied, his voice expressing the tiredness he felt, “move us into position to launch the probe, I am on my way.”
Walking out onto the bridge, Drew headed directly for his chair, his bones aching for a sit down. Watching the view-screen, he saw the silver probe fly away from the ship, its special shielding protecting it.
“How long until we will have contact with the Matthew?” Drew asked.
<tag Grayson>
Drew nodded in understanding, “will they be able to do that?”
<tag Grayson>
“Thank you,” Drew replied, “Tactical, what are the results of your scans? Is there anything else out here besides the Matthew?”
<tag Tactical>
“I understand,” Drew answered, “I’ll arrange with Engineering to divert more power to sensors for you.”
Suddenly the entire bridge shook violently, throwing everyone to the floor, Drew cried out has he hit the deck hard. He instantly felt the breaking of bones in his right arm, and possibly in his left hand. With great difficultly he pulled himself back up to his chair.
<Medical, this is your chance to discover the Hanson crew are aging as well as the Matthew>
“Report!” he called out.
“We have become caught in the gravitational pull,” Graxen called out.”
“All engines, full reverse,” Drew commanded.
“No effect,” Graxen replied.
“We need a way out of this Commander,” Drew answered, “suggestions?”
OCC: Once again, I must say sorry for lack of posts, November has proven to be an increasingly busy period for me. After next week, my work load will be reduced to next to nothing for the next 2 months, but by then we should be almost finished lol. We need to start moving forward now, we need to contact the Matthew, who will explain that the effects of the vortex are aging them, and they also do not have warp power. We need to determine if there are another other ships in the area, I’ll that one up to you guys to decide. If some other people could also start to experience aging it would be good, as we don’t have any medical cadets, it will be more of an engineering problem to find a way to reverse the aging process on the Hanson. Cadet Brandy has already suggested ways to solve this problem for the crew, so it should give us some stuff to work with.
We should be aiming to finish this mission within the next week or so, allowing you all to get the opportunity to join the fleet ships.
The ship was starting to list to port. Emergency lighting was activated on the bridge as medics rushed onto the bridge. Jack, who had left his station to work on plotting the vortex from the science station, ran back to the helm. Graxen was there looking at the navigational sensors.
"Cadet, you might want to take the seat behind me and strap in ... this should prove to be a bumpy ride"
And indeed it was. The ship was caught between two gravity wells the one to port being the stronger. That was obvious seeing how it was winning the tug-of-war with the lesser well. Then Hanson was the rope.
"Engineering!," Graxen shouted, "I need more power to the thruster system!"
The power came, however it was only just a little but John hoped it would be enough.
"Captain, I'm attempting to sling shot us around this stronger well by getting us close as we can to the center then throwing the aft around hard." John hit the ship wide comm, "All hands ... braise for maneuvering"
John threw the nose of the ship into the well, the ship started to shake. The computer sounded that hull integrity was reaching maximum. Adjusting the internal dampeners didn't help so it was time to sling-shot.
"Engaging aft port thrusters --- FULL!" John exclaimed.
The ship swung around hard, pushing those in seats back and those not in seats to the floor. All lights went off, including the red klaxon. The whine of the systems slowly quieted as the motion of the ship stopped.
The ship was at full stop ... the view screen came back to life as did the bridge systems and lights. The view screen was hot white with color with a small silhouette of a ship casting the only shadow.
<this could be the Matthew ... but ? ? I'll let someone else post reporting that possibility>
"Sir," John reported, "We are at all stop, helm is on-line ... impulse and thrusters systems are on-line as well ... checking other systems" The control panel went fuzzy, John rubbed his eyes but it didn't seem to help. 'funny', he thought, 'I just had a check-up and my eyes were just fine.'
"Cadet, take the helm but keep us away from those gravity wells; you can track each on the nav sensors" John instructed.
<anyone who wants to report on any other system>
S'reena awoke as she was shaken rather roughly when the Hanson entered the gravity well. She had no idea how long she'd been asleep but she was feeling much better now. She raised herself up, and noticed that her joints were responding under protest and she grimaced as her shoulder locked up on her.
"I need to exercise more," she murmured, as she pulled a clean tunic out of a closet, and a pair of pants out of another. She stretched and she heard the muscles and bones creak in her back. "Owwwww," she yelped, then rubbed her stomach, feeling the pressure of the foetuses on her insides. "I'm so glad this is nearly over," she muttered, though a little anxious.
Grabbing a coffee from the replicator, she found her way back to the bridge, clining to the walls repeatedly as she fought to stay upright, and her coffee in her mug. About fifteen minutes later than planned, she finally entered the bridge and shooed the Trill night watch first officer out of her chair. "You're relieved," she said curtly, and the Trill left the bridge without so much as a 'good night'.
She watched Drew sitting in the center chair with a rather painful expression on his face, and she gasped as she saw his raggard appearance. "Sir," she started, "are you all right? You look......old!" She fell silent as he glared at her, but she worked up the courage to continue. "Your hair has gone grey, and you've got wrinkles...." She chuckled softly. "Actually, it looks rather cute."
Then she stopped smiling. "You are injured," she then concluded, and beckoned Brandy to step down to the command center. "Cadet Tyrron, please continue your reports," she called at the Klingon cadet, Soaringstar, assist him." She then returned her attention to the marine cadet. "Mister Brandy, please escort Admiral Drew to sickbay, and make sure you're gentle with him...he's an old man now."
“Where are you up to?” Hannah asked, walking in. “What can I do to help?”
"Well, we're just finishing up getting this probe ready, then we set it into place to be launch then let the Bridge now," Bates said, and they began to move the probe.
After that was done, he tapped his commbadge. "Engineering to Bridge, the probe's all set to go."
<Drew/S'reena>
Suddenly, the ship shook violently. Noah remained upright due to his chair, but the Cadets fell over. A minute later, he got a call. "Engineering to Commander Bates," came Lieutenant Bates voice, "we need you down here right away, sir!"
Bates tapped his commbadge. "On my way. Capps, report back to the Bridge. Stevenson, Shelby, follow me," he said, as he wheeled out the door.
A few minutes later, he rolled into Engineering with the Cadets closely behind him. "Report!" he yelled at.
"We're caught in the gravitational field of the vortex. We're trying to break free, but no effect so far," Bates responded, while moving between stations to try and solve the problem.
Noah turned the Cadets behind him. "Any ideas?"
Hannah and Shelby had just followed Noah into engineer. Hannah listened to the report of how they were stuck in the vortex. Then Noah turned to the two cadets asking them if they had ideas.
“We could use the deflector again to set a warp field for a quick burst to move us further back, so that the pull is lower on us,” Hannah suggested, “It will take a few minutes to set up.”
Noah nodded to the two cadets and they ran over to one of the workstations to reconfigure the deflector from creating communications with the probe to configuring it to help create the warp bubble. Hannah and Shelby worked well together anticipating what the other was doing and not interfering with each others part of the task.
She wasn’t sure if this would work again they were a lot further into the vortex and the pull was a lot stronger and a lot more disruptive on there systems. Also this would reduce the quality of any communications with the probe and the Matheson that had just been launched. But it wouldn’t help anything if Hanson became trapped in the vortex with the Matheson.
Just after Shelby and Hannah got the probe in place the Commander touched his comm-badge and told the bridge that the probe was in place to be launched.Just then the ship violently shook and knocked Shelby and Hannah over.The Commander stayed up because he was in his chair which seems to have many advantages.
Just after that the Commander got a comm message telling him he's needed in Engineering.Then they hurried to Engineering.When Hannah and Shelby arrived the Commander had already made it there because of his speed in the chair.Just as they had walked into the door the Commander yelled out report.
(Lt.Bates):"We're caught in the gravitational field of the vortex. We're trying to break free, but no effect so far,"
Then Commander Bates turned to them and asked if they had any ideas.Shelby waited for a second thinking of an idea then Hannah gave an idea.The Commander approved the idea and they rushed over to the station and began working on it.
As they started to work they didn't have any problems.There was an incredible amount of pressure but Hannah and Shelby worked as if they knew what the other one was doing.After a minute of helping Hannah Shelby decided to make a program that will automatically manage the power changes to the deflector that will make it ready to switch power between the two as needed.After about 4 maybe 6 minutes Shelby and Hannah had finished and notified the Commander.
