Jackson nodded, he locked the weapons on target and fired a spread of photon torepos.
Ronwatched as the torpedo's spead towards the Cardassian ship and then slammed into their hull. It didn't seem to have much effect but he figured that it had to have done some damage.
No sooner had he fired, then the ship was rocked by a blast from the Cardassian ship. He looked at the sensors then turned to Nephi
"Minor damage to deck 3 sir, nothing serious"
He spun around again and looked at the Tactical sensors to check how much damage the ships weapons had done to the Cardassian vessel. The torpedos had brought the Cardassian ship's shields down to 80% and had slightly damaged their weapons array. Jackson turned to Nephi
"Minor damage to the Cardassian ship, I am locking on again."
Ron calculated the proper coordinates in his head for a few seconds based on the data that was showing up on the array. He retargeted the weapons and gave them a blast from the ships phasers

Caldwell shook his head in dismay as Kanz left sickbay, then returned to his primary patient to check up on her. To his surprise, she was actually sleeping and wasn't feigning it at that. Her breath was too evened out, and the monitors showed that she was in some sort of dream state; and not a nightmare for a change.
~it seems telling her was the best course of action after all~ he thought as he smiled to himself. Now that she was asleep, he could commence with the next course of treatment. Some of the internal tissues had been too severely damaged to repair at once, and he had to synthesize grafts. Now that they were done, he could commence placing them, and he could fully heal his patient. Just to be sure, he pressed a hypospray containing a vial of anaestetic against her throat and injected the proper dosage for a Vulcan female of her age.
An hour later, just as Caldwell proceeded to remove his surgical robes and gloves, and was just on his way to get his hands washed, Jatan walked into sickbay. "Ah Jate, just in time," Caldwell called as he waved his chief over. "She'll be getting better now. She's still sleeping and I've applied the synthesized tissue grafts where needed. I've promised her a walk around sickbay if she'd rest sufficiently. When she wakes up next, and doesn't feel any discomfort, I think we ought to allow her a small walk through sickbay."
Jatan smiled slightly at the remark. "I've sensed that she's calmed down," he said quietly, "care to tell how that happened?"
"Admiral Hepta was here earlier, and he seemed to upset her because he couldn't answer most of her questions. I showed him the door, and then proceeded in telling her what exactly had happened. At first she seemed sad, or as sad as a Vulcan gets anyway, and then she seemed to calm down. However I've asked Reman to look through the crew manifest for a counselor, and she's on her way to sickbay."
"Very good," Jatan replied, "may I see her?"
"But of course," Caldwell replied, "she just won't know you're there until she wakes up. She's been sedated for the procedure, didn't want her to wake up while I was working on her, now did I?"
Jatan nodded silently, and walked over to where Sonak was still sleeping. Gently, he sat himself down on the edge of the bed and leaned over to kiss her. Slowly, he ran his hand through her hair. "I'm sorry," he whispered as he caressed her cheek, "there'll be another time, I promise."
When he looked up, he saw a young woman standing in the doorway of the room. "Can I help you?" he asked her.
<Mira Syal>
"Ah, I'm Doctor Jatan Reckus, chief medical officer." He smiled wanly. "And the commodore's husband. She should wake up soon, I'm told."
Just when he had finished, Sonak stirred, and slowly opened her eyes. She searched the room and finally her gaze rested on Jatan and she smiled softly. The Vulcan had a feverish gleam in her eyes and she didn't seem too eager to sit up just now. "Jatan?" she whispered.
"It's all right honey. The counselor is here to talk to you. Do you want some time alone with her?"
Sonak nodded quietly. "Come back later?" she whispered at him, "I want to see the children." After Jatan had left she turned to Mira. "Counselor.....?" she asked softly.

'Yeah, so I got let out early. Oh you do know that being knocked out tends to make me ditsy for a while?'
'I'll keep that in mind.' Jared said, then muttered 'what's your usual excuse then' quietly enough that she wouldn't hear. He was in a bit of a bad mood; fighting Cardassians does that.
L'Ola smiled, 'So, what's happening?'
In the time Jared had taken to reply to Kanz, the Ghemore had dropped an anti-matter mine. 'Mines' he replied to her
The pilot had spotted it and pulled the ship into a barrel roll around it and it passed a little way off from the ship. Unfortunately it was somehow attracted to the ship and was now being towed along a little way behind by this force. The Mercury went forward, locking weapons onto the plasma emitting area. At point blank they dropped cloak and fired, then pulled up at a slight angle and flew past, only yards from the side of the cloaked Ghemore. The mine wasn't as manoeuvrable and crashed straight into it. The cloak engaged and they were hidden again.

Syal finally found her way to Sickbay and watched as the doors hissed open to allow her in. To her surprise, she saw a man lovingly caressing a Vulcan woman who was unconscious on a biobed. She quickly tried to hide her surprise, however, as the man looked over at her.
“Can I help you?” He asked.
She stepped forward hesitantly. “I’m Mira Syal. I’ve been asked to act as Counsellor as you don’t seem to have one onboard. Commander Jared told me to come to Sickbay, but if you want me to come back later…” She hung back slightly, embarrassed at this sight of affection, a pang of jealousy that it was bestowed on a Vulcan.
"Ah, I'm Doctor Jatan Reckus, chief medical officer." He smiled. "And the Commodore's husband. She should wake up soon, I'm told.”
Syal nodded but kept her distance. Just as the CMO finished speaking, Syal heard the sound of the woman stirring. Her eyes opened slightly and she seemed to smile - something which confused the Bajoran woman no end ~is that why the need a counsellor?~
She was brought back to the real world by the sound of the woman. "Jatan?" she whispered. Her voice seemed very hoarse to Syal and she shuddered. She had heard many women like that, but those did not have such good medical care.
"It's all right honey. The counsellor is here to talk to you. Do you want some time alone with her?"
Sonak nodded quietly. She whispered something to her husband and Syal turned away. "Counsellor.....?" she asked softly.
Syal nodded to Reckus as he left and slowly made her way to the Commodore. “Hello.” She said hesitantly. This part hadn’t been in her training. “My name’s Mira Syal…I’m the makeshift counsellor.” She cringed as she broke her first rule and said the words she vowed never to utter. “How are you feeling?”

"Federation ship decloakig!" The tactical officer yelled.
The Federation ship began firing the instant it became visiable again. Several shots smashed directly into the hull of the Ghemore sending sparks and explosions around the bridge of the ship.
"FIRE!" Gul Ra yelled.
Through the cloak the Ghemore fired a full spread of torpedoes matched with all the ships phaser banks locked on the Federation ship as it attempted to run. All but two torpedos missed their mark, the two smashed into the bottom section of the ship sending two small explsions into space. The phasers aboard the Ghemore peppered the Mercury as it attempted to pass unharmed over the Ghemore.
"Damage report!" Gul Ra yelled.
Just as the tactical officer began to speak a large explosion rocked the Ghemore sending all the officers to the ground. The main view screen exploded sending two officers out into the emptyness of space, Gul Ra held on for his life, but was unable to keep his grip as he was sucked toward the gaping hole in the front of the bridge. Seconds before he flew into space a containment field appeared sending Ra bouncing off it back onto the cold hard floor of the Ghemore bridge.
"Sir, all systems down. We have decloaked, and are no longer able to track the cloaked Federation ship."
With out warning several more smaller hull impacts sent small explosions across the bridge. It was clear to Ra that the Federation ship was still attacking and would not stop until it was gone.
"Gentlemen," Gul Ra said to his crew, "It is time I take my leave of you."
Gul Ra beamed off the damaged Ghemore, leaving the crew with only one thing left to do, die. Ra appeared on board a new ship surrounded by familiar faces and colors. The smell was welcoming to him, it smelled of home.
"Welcome back Ra." A mysterious man said.
"What is the condition of the Ghemore?" Ra asked.
"It is almost near destruction sir." The man replied.
"Make sure nobody on that ship survies," Ra said with anger, "This is the last time we attempt an operation with the Cardassians, and one last thing, stop calling me Ra."
"As you wish, Commander Virhn."
"Did we get all the information we need?" Virhn asked.
"Yes sir. We now know the full tactical capabilities of the Vesuvius. Our mission was a success."
Moments later the mysterious ship went to warp, leaving the system with out anybody knowing they were ever there.

"Feeling?" Sonak echoed, raising an eyebrow at the woman. The foggy feeling was leaving her and she was starting to think clearly again. Slowly, she struggled herself up into a half-sitting position, which she could do now since Caldwell had apparently removed the restraints. She had no intention of leaving this time, as she felt weak, though still better than before.
"Feeling is an emotion," she said stoically, though she instantly knew that this woman wasn't going to buy that. She had seem the woman's face when she smiled at her husband. "I am feeling better," she conceded, "but I am confused. How can I be here, in full possession of my memories, when I did die?"
<Mira>
"I do not recall dying," she finally admitted, "nor do I recall being pregnant. Oddly, it does not bother me this much this time. Last time was far worse, I believe Counselor McVaye made a note in my record about that."
<Mira>
She babbled on a bit about previous pregnancies and miscarriages, not even paying much attention to how the counselor was dealing with this information. "Jatan must be devastated," she finally said softly, "I know he wanted a child of his own. He loves my other children, but they are not his. I do not know what to do now, I do not know how to comfort him."
<Mira>
~~~~~~~~~
Mark Harper swiveled around at the helm of Discordia. "Mercury is under attack!" he reported, "their cloak is starting to fail." He adjusted Discordia's course to intercept Ghemore and assist Mercury. "Jackson, keep those weapons targeted!"
<Jackson>
Harper shot Nephi a rueful glance. "Sorry Commander, force of habit." Then he had to shield his eyes as a bright flash erupted in space, and the spot Ghemore had been before was now littered with debris.
Blinking hard to regain normal vision, Harper turned back to Jackson and Jacobson. "Seems Ghemore got destroyed sir," he added, "now what?"
Nephi didn't mind Harper's slip. He was used to being in Command on the Bridge. And frankly, Nephi would be happy to turn it over to him, but that would undermine his authority when he needed to use it.
Nephi saw the bright burst of light on the screen. He shielded his eyes a bit, but he was used to the glare of the sun off the Arctic snow. His vision returned quickly.
"Seems Ghemore got destroyed sir," Harper noted, "now what?"
"Well," Nephi said, "we check with Minerva and Discordia, and hopefully get the heck out of here as soon as possible. He hit the comm-circuit. "Bridge to Engineering. Alma, are we in good enough condition to dock with the other modules?"
After a moment, Alma replied, "No. One of our docking mechanisms was damaged, and we've got a small hull breach that would get in the way. Plus....looks like the other modules are in even worse shape than we are. Looks like we stay seperated."
"Understood," he closed the comm circuit and opened a comm channel. "Discordia to Minerva or Mercury. Looks like we're too damaged to dock back up. What do we do from here?"
"So basically, the Cardassian ship that we took over escaped to good knows where, and the one we didn't has just been blown up?"
Jared nodded "Looks that way. Although I expect we'll hear from the Derisak again, we have some of their engineers."
L'Ola tried to take in all the information, but it was a little difficult as she couldn't think straight. And once again she was commanding a broken module. Although at least it still had enough hull to keep everyone in.
"Discordia to Minerva or Mercury. Looks like we're too damaged to dock back up. What do we do from here?"
"Computer, open split screen communications for the other two Bridges."
The pictures appeared, and L'Ola desperately tried not to react at seeing Nick in command of the Minerva.
She took a deep breath, determined to be in control of the situation, and not look like she'd only been conscious a few minutes. "It looks like our Cardassian problem is over for now, but has anyone worked out what we were doing here?"
The blank faces said pretty much everything she needed to know. L'Ola turned to Jared, "Commander, how far are we from Doroch Moon Station? And more to the point how long will it take to get there?"
<I assumed Hepta was going to Mercury's bridge when Caldwell shooed him out, but since no one posted him there, I'll just have him go somewhere else.> -¦- Scene: USS Vesuvius-A, Minerva Module, Bridge -¦- Hepta had returned to Minerva after Dr. Caldwell very disrespectfully removed him from Mercury's sickbay. As if it was Hepta's fault that Sonak was asking questions that got her upset! But that wasn't the reason for his return. Minerva was the module with the least senior officers. It was also the one with the most Cardassians, but at the moment, the former was more important. As it turned out, though, he might as well have stayed on Mercury. In fact, it wouldn't have made any difference if he'd gone to his quarters. He didn't know whether to feel good or bad about that. Of course the crew should be able to take care of matters without needing help from on old man. On the other hand, he hated feeling useless. Oh well, life seemed to be like that as of late. He was working at the side of the bridge at one of the few functioning consoles when a call came in from Discordia. <snip from Nephi> "Discordia to Minerva or Mercury. Looks like we're too damaged to dock back up. What do we do from here?" </snip> "Split screen mode," Cmdr. Martens ordered. Hepta turned around to follow the conversation, though he probably wouldn't be visible on the other modules. <snip from L'Ola> "It looks like our Cardassian problem is over for now, but has anyone worked out what we were doing here?" </snip> When no one answered that, Hepta got up and walked over to Martens. "If I may, Commander?" Martens waved a hand. "Please, Admiral." Hepta turned to the viewscreen. "The Commodore and I discussed this just minutes ago." He spent a few minutes telling the others of what they had deduced. "I know it doesn't answer all our questions yet, but it's a start." <Tag, anyone. Just look at my last two post for what Hepta just told... I didn't want to type it out a second time >
Sonak listened silently as someone broadcasted the news that the Cardassian vessel Ghemore had been destroyed, though neither module could claim this victory. ~at least it is one more Cardassian less to worry about~ she thought grimly, as she held her youngest daughter close to her. The other three children were sitting with her on the bed, and Jatan was seated beside the bed.
Earlier, she had successfully walked around sickbay, at first needing some assistance, but later walking on her own. Yet she still tired easily, and she was quickly emotionally distressed. Counselor Mira Syan was sitting in a chair on the other side of the bed, watching the family display before her. The Bajoran had wanted to leave, but Sonak wouldn't hear of it.
"Counselor, do you think you can convince Doctor Caldwell that I need to get back to Minerva? Though I trust Admiral Hepta to take my ship home to Starbase Bellicose, I really would like to be on the bridge when we fly her home. I will just sit in the command chair, and watch the stars fly by on the main screen."
<Mira>
"Thank you counselor, I appreciate that."
~~
Somewhat later, Sonak was assisted to the transporter room by the counselor, while Jatan stayed behind on Mercury with the children, and assist Caldwell in treating all the other injured crewmembers. She was, however, appalled when she found Cardassians walking through the corridors, without starfleet escort. When Mira assisted her to the command chair, which was quickly vacated by Martens, she glared at her former first officer/chief engineer. "Commander Martens, care to explain why there are Cardassians on my ship?" she snapped at him, as her glare moved to Hepta. "Did you know about this? I do not want Cardassians on my ship!"
<Martens/Hepta/Mira>
Sonak sat down in the command chair, surprised yet again at how comfortable this chair was. It eased the pain in her lower back, and she felt herself relaxed somewhat. "I understand we are headed back for SBB," she said, visibly calmer, "and though we know now why we needed to go to DMS, I still do not understand how we ended up in MVA."
<Martens/Hepta>
~~
Yet another few hours later, the three modules of the Vesuvius were met by the USS Lone Wolf, USS Excalibur and USS Optimus. Each ship took one of the modules in tow at warp speed, as none of the modules were capable of warp speed in their current state. Sonak knew that Nephi would do everything in his power to get at least Discordia's warp engine back online.
She also knew that the ship would need some time in spacedock for extensive repairs. A quarter of one of Mercury's nacelles had been destroyed, and the three modules could not dock to reform the single ship. Minerva too was severely damaged.
"Seems our unlucky module was lucky this mission," she muttered, now fully aware of the stares of both Hepta and Martens, as well as the counselor. "Oh, during past missions, it was Discordia that ended up damaged, whereas Mercury and Minerva were generally left intact," she explained, leaning back in her seat.
She noticed that the counselor looked rather unhappy. "Something on your mind counselor?" she asked. Sonak knew she probably should not ask it, even more so when she was not medically declared fit for duty, and in essence shouldn't even be] on the bridge.
<mira>
She leaned back and watched the main screen, gazing at the back of the Optimus, which had taken Minerva in tow. "I cannot wait to get back to starbase," she mused, smiling ever so slightly at Hepta, "I do regret that we failed you admiral. We did not get you where you ought to be, nonetheless I do hope you enjoyed being aboard the Vesuvius. Perhaps when you visit us next, the situation will be more pleasant. If I may say, however, you look less glum than when you came aboard....did something happen to you that perhaps changed your view on life?"
(OOC: My post will assume that Doctor Reckus returned to Discordia, as we don't have a Medical Officer otherwise Nephi sat back in his chair, looking through the viewscreen at the back end of the underside of the Excalibur. He kept thinking of Alma down in Engineering, and the fact that he had so little to do up here. He stood, and went over to Harper. "Commander Harper," he began, "given that we're being towed, and there's not much I'm needed for here, and my expertise is much better needed in Engineering at this point, and since its your usual job anyway, would you like to take Command for the present time?" "Certainly, sir," Harper said, smiling. "I can tell from watching you that you don't like just sitting there." "You're observant, Commander. I'll be in Engineering. Call me if anything big comes up," he said, and then left the Bridge. He stepped into the turbolift, and was about to order it to Engineering on Deck 17, but then he realized that he needed something for the headache that had been growing for the past few hours. Sickbay first. "Deck 15," he said finally. A few minutes later, he walked into Sickbay. Jatan looked up. "Hello, Commander. What can I do for you?" "I've got a headache. Can ya give me something for it?" he asked. Jatan walked over and scanned him with a tricorder. "What you really need is some rest. Your stress level is hovering close to the relief-of-duty mark." "Can't," he answered heavily, leaning with a hand on a biobed. "I've got repairs to oversee. I promise, I'll gladly take time off when we're done." "Alright, but be careful. I don't want you collapsing," he said, and injected him with an anti-inflammatory. "Understood," Nephi said, and left Sickbay. He went to Engineering. As he strode into Engineering, he noticed that Alma was in no better shape than he was. He walked up. "How goes it, Alma?" Alma sighed, looking at the PADD in his hand. "All in all, doing okay, sir. Running this place in your absence isn't easy." "Well, that's one burden you don't have to bear anymore. I'll take over for you. How're the Warp Engines looking?" "Like we might be able to make the last few hours back to Bellicose under our own power," he said, doing the best he could to smile. "Excellent, let's get started."
Oddly, the Derisak hadn't returned for quite some time to collect its engineers. Eventually however, it did. They contacted the Minerva, where their engineers were. Dulak appeared on the screen with a human passenger that hadn't been seen before alongside him. 'Starfleet vessel, we require our engineers back on board' the Cardassian demanded 'You understand we are not a ship most people take a liking too and would rather find ourselves somewhere to go than stay near a Federation starbase waiting for our engineers back.'
<whoever's in command there>
'Thank you, maybe we shall meet again under more pleasant circumstances' Dulak said and the Derisak turned and left.
Meanwhilst, on the bridge of fleet footed Mercury, Jared's console was displaying a message. He went to see the Commander. 'The Derisak has collected its engineers and left. On a less direct note, the USS Lion has been reported missing from starbase and all ships are to keep a look out for it. They have no leads on where it was going since the trail runs cold in a nebula so they can't send out an active search party.' 'We'll watch out for it then' she replied 'I believe our shifts are over in a minute' Jared pointed out 'You should probably go to the Minerva and catch up with Martens. It has been a long time after all.'
"I believe our shifts are over in a minute" Jared pointed out "You should probably go to the Minerva and catch up with Martens. It has been a long time after all."
L'Ola was genuinely surprised, she hadn't expected the Operations Officer to be so blunt, "Interesting idea. See I was still thinking about what I'll have to do to our stowaways as soon as we get back to Bellicose."
"Typical, you never relax."
"That's not fair, it's not like there have been many opportunities lately." She was too tired to argue properly, but was determined to hold out as long as she could.
Jared grinned triumphantly, "Good thing it's shoreleave soon then. You'll have all the free time you want."
There was a beeping sound, "Lucy Kanz to Commander Kanz."
"Hi Lucy, how's it going?"
=/\= Fine thanks. Listen, I was thinking since you get off duty in like a minute do you fancy meeting up? We haven't played kal-toh in a while and I can't beat myself at it. =/\=
A smile appeared on L'Ola's face, "Okay, you can TRY to beat me. Kanz out."
"Cheat" Jared mock-glared at her.
"Look, it's like you said, we're on shoreleave soon. And if anything's going to happen, it can happen then..."
-¦- Scene: USS Vesuvius-A, Minerva Module, Bridge -¦-
<snip from Sonak> "Commander Martens, care to explain why there are Cardassians on my ship?" she snapped at him, as her glare moved to Hepta. "Did you know about this? I do not want Cardassians on my ship!" </snip>
"Take it easy, Commodore," Hepta said. He was probably the only one aboard who could say that like that and get away with it. "You'd be dead if it wasn't for them. We'd all be." It was a bit of a cheap shot to say that to her particularly, but so be it. "If you want to file a protest against any of the command decisions I made while you were incapacitated, I'm sure you know how." That should put her back in her place. He wasn't going to pretend this was his ship, but he wasn't going to have his authority challenged either.
<snip from Sonak> Sonak sat down in the command chair, surprised yet again at how comfortable this chair was. It eased the pain in her lower back, and she felt herself relaxed somewhat. "I understand we are headed back for SBB," she said, visibly calmer, "and though we know now why we needed to go to DMS, I still do not understand how we ended up in MVA." </snip>
"Some mysteries will always remain," Hepta said. "But perhaps the rest of our memories will return with time. Or maybe Bellicose's long-range sensors picked up something." He really hoped they had. This entire episode emphasized the need for a stronger Starfleet presence near Doroch, but they really had to solve this mystery before they could try again.
He left the bridge a short while later to rest in his quarters. All this excitement wasn't as easy on him anymore as it was a few years ago, or a few decades. He really was a fool, to have accepted that job at Doroch Moon Station. Much good it had done him! Nearly got him killed and if this loss of memories didn't drive him mad, it surely didn't drive him any saner.
He walked over to the washstand and looked in the mirror. A grumpy old face stared back at him. Old and tired. And... hopeful? He shook his head and turned away. Perhaps he really was going mad, but he felt hopeful as he hadn't felt in years.
Later that day, after the USS Lone Wolf, Excalibur and Optimus had arrived to tow them back to Bellicose, Hepta returned to the bridge and sat down next to Sonak.
<snip from Sonak> She leaned back and watched the main screen, gazing at the back of the Optimus, which had taken Minerva in tow. "I cannot wait to get back to starbase," she mused, smiling ever so slightly at Hepta, "I do regret that we failed you admiral. We did not get you where you ought to be, nonetheless I do hope you enjoyed being aboard the Vesuvius. Perhaps when you visit us next, the situation will be more pleasant. If I may say, however, you look less glum than when you came aboard....did something happen to you that perhaps changed your view on life?" </snip>
"Don't be so sure that you failed me, Commodore," Hepta said. "If we ever find out what happened, it may well turn out that you did whatever you could." Besides, he had a feeling this turn of events might actually work out better for him in the long run. "Regardless, I did enjoy my stay." His feelings were more subtle than that, but the statement was mostly true. "As for your last comment, yes, something did happen. I feel..." He still wasn't sure how he felt exactly, let alone how he had to explain it to Sonak. "Let's put it this way: I found out I can still make a difference."
