[El Salvador: Starbase 24]
Delbridge listened to Roberts' question before chuckling softly with a nod, "Yeah, standard medical check as always. Cap'n Buzzkill's still in charge and you know them vulcans like their proverbial ducks in a row. I'm Delbridge, by the way, nice to meet you. Afraid I'm not normal ship's compliment though just special envoy for this mission... although when I see Admiral Hayes next it'll be less 'VIP' special and more 'dunce cap in the corner' special." Though he seemed an odd acquaintance for the relatively serious Savot, Buzzkill was said in a tone clearly recognizable as a friendly nickname of sorts as opposed to an actual insult.
The commander laughed then mentioned as an afterthought, "Which reminds me I've gotta get some engine modifications in the works down below so as soon as you're cleared by the Doc the bridge is all yours until the others get back." Delbridge gave a casual two-fingered salute to Roberts before heading to take a turbolift down to engineering and get to work.
<Roberts if any response desired>

Entering sick bay he found nothing had changed at all, although he was confronted by an unfamiliar face, a lieutenant. John simply smiled at his greeting. "I'm here for one of those annoying medicals" He grinned, and then waited patiently as Lt. Hope read over the padd.
"They're only as annoying as one makes them sir," Michael replied with a smile that matched the newcomer's. He scanned the PADD quickly, while gesturing for a biobed. "And there's ever only one patient being as annoying as hell when it comes to physicals, and that's my own wife. Please, hop on and we'll get this over with as quickly as possible."
[Roberts]
"Is there anything I should know about, that isn't on this PADD or otherwise mentioned in your medical files that's for CMO's eyes only? As you notice, I'm not the chief medical officer, though I suppose currently I am acting, as there's none assigned to the El-Salvador."
[Roberts]
As the scans ran, Michael tried to engage in small talk. "Tell me Mr Roberts, what ships have you served on, before landing yourself on a magnificent vessel as this one?"
[Roberts]
"Ahh. I've ever only served on the USS Hanson before this, and very very briefly on the USS Hepta, but that really is only briefly and temporarily. You see, I work wherever my wife is assigned. I'm sure you've heard of her...can't really miss her either, she's Romulan. Ah, you wouldn't have any knowledge on the whereabouts of the mini-Sal would you? I've not heard any news over the past few hours.." Michael realised he was babbling. "I get very worried you see, my wife is blind. But don't tell her she's helpless, she gets really mad when you do. Romulan pride..."
[Roberts]
"Ah well you're cleared for duty sir." Michael watched the officer leave, then tapped his combadge. "Commander Delbridge? I've just cleared Mr Roberts for duty sir."

"And there's ever only one patient being as annoying as hell when it comes to physicals, and that's my own wife. Please, hop on and we'll get this over with as quickly as possible."
He gave a little unenthusiastic sigh, mainly because that is how he really felt. He was far from looking forward to this medical, although, Lt. Hope seemed nice enough. His mind drifted for a moment, wondering if he was related to Commander Hope, who had arrived on the ship a few months prior to John leaving.
"Is there anything I should know about, that isn't on this PADD or otherwise mentioned in your medical files that's for CMO's eyes only? As you notice, I'm not the chief medical officer, though I suppose currently I am acting, as there's none assigned to the El-Salvador."
"Theres nothing that isn't on that padd, at least, nothing that I'm aware of.... no doubt if you look real hard you could find something to add" He grinned and gave one of those cheeky winks.
As the scans ran, Michael tried to engage in small talk. "Tell me Mr Roberts, what ships have you served on, before landing yourself on a magnificent vessel as this one?"
"The academy days where spent on the Hepta, seems a long time ago that now. After graduating from the acad, I spent a while aboard the Victory before joining the El Sal." He paused for a moment, remembering some of the old faces, "This is my second time here, I was forced to leave starfleet for a year or so."
I've not heard any news over the past few hours.." Michael realized he was babbling. "I get very worried you see, my wife is blind. But don't tell her she's helpless, she gets really mad when you do. Romulan pride..."
"I know all about that, Romulan pride..." He frowned a little bit, but it was hard not too. He fully understood that the death of his biological parents at the hands of another Romulan, was certainly not her fault, yet, it was hard to let go of the deep loathing he had built up inside him all through his childhood.
"As for the mini Sal, I wouldn't know, I've barely been aboard an hour, I would offer to look into it for you, but I'm unsure of the nature of the mission." He paused, wanting to pick his words very carefully, "You know what starflets like, almost everything is confidential" he said with a little laugh.
"Ah well you're cleared for duty sir." Michael watched the officer leave, then tapped his combadge. "Commander Delbridge? I've just cleared Mr Roberts for duty sir."
"Well then, I better go and get everything else sorted out.... oh what joy that will be" He said before extending his hand, "See you some other time know doubt"
Leaving, he was unsure if he should go and see what kind of new systems the El Sal had gained over the past year, or if he should go and sort out his living arrangements first.

[El Salvador: Starbase 24]
Delbridge was just leaving Savot's quarters after feeding Alfred the goldfish when Dr. Hope's voice came through the comm, =^=Commander Delbridge? I've just cleared Mr Roberts for duty sir.=^=
The engineer tapped his badge to reply, "Thanks Doc. Bridge doesn't technically have to be manned while docked at starbase, but if Roberts wants to grab some command hours for his record the conn's all his til the Mini-Sal gets back. On that note we've just received word they completed their mission with no casualties on our end and they transferred the surviving Klingons to a medical ship and are on their way to meet us. ETA 17 hours, Delbridge out." He figured Doctor Hope would want an update since his wife was on said mission.
************************************************** [Mini-Sal: 17 hours later] (People can backpost any intervening activities should they so desire)
Commander Jackson had resumed the helm after escaping the confines of the hazard suit and after meeting the Starfleet medical ship M'Benga outside the Jhedok system they transferred the survivors from the scout ship and Colonel K'ratak, who had been assigned to escort them back to the Empire as a political nicety, into their care and set off to rejoin the El Salvador. The return trip was by and large routine with little activity aside from shift rotations to allow alternating groups the chance for some sleep.
Savot had opted to spend the first 6 hours meditating in the aft compartment so he'd be fully rested for the last 11 hours of the trip allowing some of the crew to rest a bit longer should they so choose. Finally, they arrived at Starbase 24 and after receiving the necessary clearances from both starbase and starship, Jackson brought the Mini-Sal in to its mother vessel's main shuttlebay. One lowered rear hatch later and the cooped up occupants were finally free to stretch their legs both literally and figuratively.
Savot was the last to depart the shuttle, giving a polite nod to Commander Delbridge who he saw waiting for him outside the shuttle. Upon his first step out of the Mini-Sal; however, the vulcan was accosted by what seemed to be a song of some sort playing through the Shuttlebay speakers:
=^=Who's the Cap with pointed ears, who faces bad guys without fear?=^=, though the tune was unknown to Savot any fans of old Earth television might have recognized the theme of the detective 'Shaft', albeit with altered lyrics.
Arching an eyebrow at Delbridge, Savot quickly spoke to override the computer, "Stop playback."
Delbridge's shoulders fell and he wore an expression of disappointed irritation, "But I can dig it."
"Whereas I can brig it", the vulcan countered.
The engineer's mouth opened to continue his complaint but then shrugged his shoulders conceding the 'match', "Okay that was kinda fly I gotta give that one to you. Here are the ship and personnel readiness reports. Bad timing about K'ratak but on the plus side your former Tac/Sec John Roberts has been reassigned here so you should still be good to go in the asskickery department." Delbridge was a curious being in that he could segway from complete ridiculousness directly into getting down to business but he also knew mission details often made the difference in whether a crew survived and for all his joking he still took that most seriously.
Savot nodded gratitude at the offered datapadd and began looking over the information as his friend continued, "Admiral Hayes sends her regrets, but the nature of the mission doesn't allow for more than 6 hours for your officers to recuperate before the next briefing. Which she'll be coming aboard to present this time instead of us going to the station."
"Understood. Everyone, settle in as best you can over the next 6 hours then senior officers report to the conference room. Dismissed", Savot spoke to those present, knowing Roberts was the only senior officer not in the room and the vulcan could inform him of the briefing time individually. Delbridge fired off his two-fingered salute before heading back to Engineering to continue his modifications.
<Can insert any interaction people want, and if anyone's dying to chat with Delbridge they can walk with him to the turbolift or some such>
***************************************************
Savot reached the bridge, the turbolift doors opening with their customary whoosh, and despite the illogic of it he was inwardly pleased to be back aboard. The welcoming sensation was two-fold in that a former shipmate had returned, and Roberts was even now on the bridge as well.
"Welcome back aboard Mr. Roberts", Savot greeted his former and current officer, "It is most agreeable to have you back at your position."

Post by SA. Stacey Jackson [Ret] on May 19, 2010 20:15:44 GMT
Commander Stacey Jackson who had become quite proficient in piloting shuttles since joining the crew set the craft down in the shuttle bay, she powered down the shuttles engines and stood up waited for people to move out . She made it out of the shuttle to hear the odd music blaring out, it was a tune she was unfamiliar with and she shot Delbridge an annoyed glare.
After a short discussion between him and Savot they were told they had six hours before they would receive a mission briefing from Admiral Hayes, the news struck her as a little surprising. With the senior crew only just back from a mission already and yet to check the El Salvador over themselves to see what had been fixed and or upgraded.
Stacey walked a step behind Delbridge and when they stopped in front of the turbolift she said. “Commander, I would like a report of all repairs and upgrades on my desk before the Admiral arrives.. and it goes without saying that any other jokes you have planned for Savot stop the moment she steps foot on the ship.”
<Delbridge>
She turned and left him to get into the turbolift, after walking a few meters down the corridor she came to another turbolift and entered. She didn’t feel like sharing one with Commander Delbridge if only for a few seconds, she wasn’t overly impressed with his personality so far.
She arrived on the bridge to see that Roberts had already manned his station, Savot was in the command chair and she was sure he had already made Roberts feel welcome. She remembered that he was the first officer who had approached her when she was the new Counsellor.
She gave him a nod as she walked past tactical. “John, it has been some time, I hope you remember the difference between Phasers and torpedoes after all this time.” She remarked jokingly.
<Tag Roberts>
Walking to her chair she sat down and pulled the small console forward, glancing down she checked the layout of the screen, it had been changed slightly. She frowned as she checked over the new layout, shrugging her shoulders she took a deep breath. It seemed everything was still there just in different locations. She made mental note to put it all back in the original places later.
Standing up and feeling grateful to be back ‘home’ she gave a small smile before walking back to the turbolift, she had six hours before the meeting started, and unless the starbase engineers decided to dice with death she had a bed with her name on it.

Having completed his medical, John was on his way to his quarters when he remembered about the offer of getting a few command hours in. He stopped in his tracks pondering this for a moment before saying a few words to him self. "As good a time as any I guess" He quickly spun on his heels and made his way to a turbolift, heading for the bridge.
His arrival on the bridge was well timed, the Mini Sal had just docked, and Commander Delbridge was just about to leave the bridge in the hands of a young ensign, something he had never seen Savot do, but everyone on the senior staff as he recalled was at least a full Lieutenant.
"The bridge is yours Mr. Roberts" he heard Delbridge call, John merely nodded in reply with a "thank you sir" thrown in for good measure. Taking his seat in the command chair, and watching Delbridge enter the turbolift John has just steeped off moments before, he began to collect a few status reports to make sure he was up to speed on what was happening. As was expected, the upgrades to systems where almost complete, and there was nothing else to report besides this.
Around half an hour passed until the old familiar faces began to return to the bridge, first it was Savot, who greeted him quite warmly for a vulcan. "Welcome back aboard Mr. Roberts", there was a momentary pause before Savot spoke again, "It is most agreeable to have you back at your position." "It's good to be back sir" John smiled, "All the system upgrades are almost complete, and should be finished within the hour, besides that there is nothing else to report sir" he added, before being allowed to take his station.
(OCC: I'll add to this Post in the coming days with a response to your tag Commander Jackson)

After the mini-sal docks in El-Salvador's shuttlebay
"S'reena!"
The Romulan commander turned towards the sound of the voice and the running footsteps that were obviously trying to catch up. She recognised the footfall of the approaching person, while Auric fed her images of the person's features. The fanning of the little gold's wings sent strands of her long dark hair flying, a cool wind breezing past her face.
Auric warbled happily as she whizzed around Michael's head as he approached, occasionally tangling his hair up. "All right all right!" Michael laughed as he batted at the tiny creature, before wrapping his arms about his wife. "You're home safe," he smiled as he tilted his face to kiss her, passionately.
"Ewwww!" The cry had come from close by, and was slightly higher in pitch.
S'reena pulled back, chuckling. "Wait until you're of age Kahlan," she suggested, "then we'll talk again about a kiss being ew, as you say."
The girl blushed as she ran up to hug her mother. "Was it fun, where you went? Dad took us to the starbase, we had a great time! Did you have a good time?"
S'reena leaned down to pick up Jeisen, who was vying for her attention, smiling as he planted a very wet kiss on her cheek, causing Kahlan to cry out in laughter. Michael joined in with the laughter, neither adult realising that their second daughter had wandered off.
Yarna glanced over her shoulder, smiling as her parents greeted eachother, while hers siblings, especially the triplets, were vying for their attention, scowling in indignation when one appeared to be favoured over the other. The three younger children often vied for attention, especially the two boys. She had walked away when she had seen Savot exit the overgrown shuttle. "Captain?" she called softly, as she tugged his sleeve. "Captain, are you all right?"
After silencing the impromptu theme song prepared by Commander Delbridge, Savot heard and then saw his young friend Yarna Hope as she inquired as to his wellbeing. He gave a tilted nod of appreciation for her thoughtfulness as he replied, "I am indeed, Miss Yarna. And you?"
The girl giggled at being called miss. "I'm fine captain. Did you have a good time while away? Did you see anything interesting?" She had no idea why exactly she was asking, but she did like talking to him. She found his serenity very comforting, as well as the lack of constant emotional feeling. It was a refreshing change, compared to her always emotional siblings.
Savot saw no need to mention the loss of life aboard the Klingon ship so he focussed on another aspect of their mission as he clasped his hands behind him in his familiar posture, "We had the unique opportunity to see a stellar phenomenon that has never been seen before, at least according to known records. Though it is most satisfying to be back aboard the ship. Have your recent experiences been positive as well?"
What a stellar phenomenon was, Yarna had no idea. "I'm five," she replied, "I don't know what that is..." Yet her most charming smile was put on. "Dad took us to starbase, we had fun." She smiled as she nodded towards the captain's companion. "Who's that?"
"My apologies Miss Yarna. We saw a star break apart in a way not previously recorded. I am pleased you enjoyed touring the starbase", Savot simplified his previous statement as the little girl poured on the charm, then gestured towards Delbridge.
The human introduced himself, giving a slight dip of his head with a warm smile on his face, "Hello little lady. My name's Delbridge I'm an old friend of Savot's here." He then knelt to her height and whispered conspiratorially, "Can I count on you to look after the captain here after I'm gone?"
Yarna smiled as she glanced past him at Savot. "Yes sir," she replied, "I promise." She could sense that he was indeed a friend, even though some of his ideas of friendship might not be seen as such from the outside. "My name's Yarna." She pointed over her shoulder. "That's my mother, and my father." She grinned then looked up again. "I should go home...mom probably wants to go home. Can I come to the bridge again soon? Please?" She gave Savot a look that could only be defined as 'puppy eyes'.
Delbridge looked back and forth from Savot to the girl, grinning widely.
Savot pursed his lips slightly in thought before speaking, "When next we're docked at a starbase perhaps". Bridge rules were pretty slack when docked since the ship wasn't really doing anything but sitting there in space. "Until then we shall have to limit our encounters to the areas of the ship that are open to everyone", Savot raised his right hand in the vulcan salute and tipped his head again to the young girl, "Live long and prosper, Miss Yarna."
Delbridge threw a wave of his own in, completely charmed by the whole situation, "Nice meeting you, partner. And thanks for the promise."
Yarna grinned, then threw her arms around Savot's waist in a hug, before serving Delbridge in a similar fashion. Then she ran off to rejoin her parents, still grinning and telling them in hushed tones what had happened.
S'reena laughed as she and Michael ushered their children out of the hangarbay. "You keep your promise Yarna, he does need someone to look after him." Michael laughed with her, patting his daughter on the shoulder. "Now, let's go home, I'm in for a quiet evening with just us.."

Post by SA. Stacey Jackson [Ret] on May 24, 2010 18:47:01 GMT
Placing the hot mug of tea on her bedside table Jackson slipped in between the sheets of her bed. The sheets of course brought by her from earth the one thing she refused to do even for Starfleet was to sleep with their standard issue bedding.
As she got comfortable she ran down the checklist of things to do in her head, She had set the alarm to wake her an hour before the staff briefing with Admiral Hayes. She had asked the Engineering department to see to it she got a list of systems repaired or upgraded and she had made an appearance on the bridge.
She smiled to herself as she slowly drifted off to sleep… Suddenly a loud beep sounded through the room, Jackson stirred slightly but didn’t wake.. A Second time it beeped, this time her eyes opened and she sighed heavily. She glared at the ceiling as she pulled the blanket reluctantly off herself.
Pulling on a dressing gown, she walked to her door and opened it. She squinted slightly at the light that hit her eyes from the hall outside. After a few seconds, she looked the young lieutenant in the eye, pulled a disparaging face, and asked. “Yes what can I do for you?”
He straightened up and smiled nervously. “Sorry to disturb you Ma’am, but a few of our departments have new staff and they need your approval for the new shift rosters standard procedure.”
Stacey nodded slowly as she stepped aside and motioned him inside. “Wait in the living area I will be with you in a moment.” She silently cursed herself for not remembering to check her office after visiting the bridge.
She entered her bedroom and got back into a fresh uniform, picking up the mug of tea he frowned at the fact it was still very warm meaning she had not been asleep that long in the first place. She carried it into the living area and sat down on the couch next to the young Lieutenant. “Okay, how many did we get?” she asked as she reached out for the Padd.
He handed over the Padd and replied. “Six Ma’am two for engineering.” He scrolled down the list and added. “Two for maintenance crew, one for sickbay and one for science department.”
Nodding as she looked over the Padd she suddenly found herself searching her mind for the Lieutenants name, she recalled seeing him before but she constantly drew a blank or names of other crewmembers. She finally decided it was better to look somewhat forgetful than guess wrong. “Uh I apologise but I can’t remember your name.”
He smiled as he replied quickly. “William Taylor Ma’am.”
She nodded as she signed the Padd and handed it back over, “See to it these people get assigned quarters, given the grand tour and all that business.”
He nodded as he stood up, he came to attention as he said. “Thank you Ma’am.”
She watched him leave and thought for a moment, she weighed the options of going back to bed. But given she had already taken what could be called a nap by the time she got to sleep she would have had to get up for the briefing. She sighed as she stood up and walked out.
She stepped off the turbolift and onto the bridge, and walked through to her chair she looked to Savot and pulled a face as she remarked. “The Deities themselves seem to conspire to keep me from sleeping.” She looked down at her console and used the old trick her academy cadets thought worked on her, she simply frowned as she looked down to appear to busy to be asked anything.

[Just after Mini-Sal Return]
Delbridge gave a self-deprecating smile as he nodded in response to his well-deserve talking to from Jackson, "Absolutely Commander. Once Savot gets back to the bridge I'm under his temporary command, and while I don't mind making a fool of myself from time to time, I'd never make a friend look bad doing his or her job." A firm nod later, and the turbolift doors claimed the engineer while the First Officer found one to herself.
He didn't fault Jackson her current opinion of him; in fact Delbridge was relieved a bit to know Savot had good people backing him up that would look out for the vulcan's interests. But the First Officer wouldn't get any further trouble from him now that the El Salvador's command team was back in charge. On the contrary, Commander Jackson would find the very reports she asked for provided at three separate locations: her bridge console, the console in her quarters, and in portable form via datapadd in her office. No way to know which area she'd go to first upon returning to the ship so Delbridge had covered his bases... though admittedly more out of boredom than a nagging desire to dot his proverbial i's.
Though the details would still have to wait for Admiral Hayes' briefing, it was plain as day from the reports that the upcoming mission was heavily tactical. All weapons and shield systems had been triple-tested, structural integrity had been reinforced by 17.2% though that appeared to be connected more to whatever the engine modifications were supposed to do. Propulsion power and speed hadn't been altered at all but there were intermix ratio changes and alterations to the warp field that on their own didn't look like they'd do much of anything.
Also, those not on the Mini-Sal rescue mission had already been told, but those returning would quickly be informed: Any civilians aboard including crew family members were strongly advised to remain at Starbase 24 in temporary quarters that had been provided for the duration of the mission. Which to any seasoned officer spelled out clearly: The Mission is to be accomplished at all costs including the destruction of the ship if necessary.
Going along with that, 3 decks had been evacuated and shut down to create a power surplus for the tactical systems and engineering in general. One science lab remained powered but all the others were likewise blacked out as were non-essential systems like the holodecks and all the replicators that were in temporarily empty quarters. All crew had gone through security checks which also suggested the mission would be highly classified. But the one good thing about the rapidly approaching briefing was that the crew wouldn't have to wait too long before getting their answers.

Savot was sitting on the bridge reviewing Delbridge's reports since naturally he had gotten a copy just as Commander Jackson had. At just that moment Stacey stepped off the turbolift and onto the bridge, and walked through to her chair she looked to Savot and pulled a face as she remarked, “The Deities themselves seem to conspire to keep me from sleeping.”
The vulcan arched his brow with intellectual interest at her phrasing, but he couldn't think of what an appropriate statement of sympathy would be and so opted to play it safe, "As our mission will doubtless require travel, you may avail yourself of rest en route if the distance is sufficient; I'll ensure all ship's business is brought to my attention directly."
<Jackson reply if any>
After completing his read-through of the reports, Savot excused himself from the bridge and descended to Engineering to check on his friend's progress.
************************************************** [30 minutes prior to Briefing: Engineering]
"Is that girl not the cutest thing in the galaxy? She's nice as she can be, and yet by some odd quirk of fate isn't scared to death of you?", Delbridge asked, exercising his ability to somehow socialize without decreasing the quality of his work.
Savot tilted his head as he admitted, "At our first meeting she seemed concerned that I might have planned to consume her for seeking refuge under my Ready Room desk." At this, Delbridge nearly took his own hand off with protoplaser tightbeam attenuator as he laughed.
"Well, near dismemberment notwithstanding, the engine mods are as done as they're gonna get without field testing. And I know we can both see the writing on the wall here... but thanks for not asking about the mission", the engineer said with a head-dip of gratitude.
Savot bowed his head after giving the human a hand up, then clasping his hands behind his back, "It would be illogical to ask you to reveal that which you've been ordered not to, as well as a breach of friendship."
Delbridge grinned, gave a firm nod of agreement, then gestured towards the turbolift, "Well let's get this briefing over with so I can start complaining about the mission. Strictly off-duty of course."
************************************************* [T-Minus 0: El Salvador Conference Room]
Though Admiral Hayes did arrive 10 minutes early, she was impressed that all of the El Salvador's senior officers arrived to the briefing by the intended start time. Her formerly honey-colored hair was pulled into a tight gray bun at the back of her neck and her robelike uniform was well taken care of, but looked like a uniform someone worked in rather than the 'rainy day' one always kept in the wardrobe so it looked perfect to impress people.
As she sat at the head of the table, Savot was at her right with Delbridge in the next seat down, and she raised a suspicious eyebrow at the unusually silent engineer but the vulcan's friend was behaving most appropriately for the setting. Admiral Hayes was among the most friendly of Starfleet's brass, and was easygoing about most things but it seemed at times that Chester Delbridge went out of his way to try and push her buttons. But he did the technical part of his job very well and that was needed for this mission moreso than spit and polish.
When everyone was gathered Hayes addressed the group, "From this moment forward the details of this assignment will be classified Top Secret. Any officers wishing to forgo participation may do so without consequence but will remain at Starbase 24 until the mission is over. Speak now if you wish to remain behind."
(People can arrive in any order, and respond or not to this last part in any reasonable manner. Will get the meat of the briefing on the table in my next post within the next day or 2.)

As the bridge began to come alive, like he once knew it to be, John saw another familiar face. He felt a little bad, as he couldn't remember her name, it was something John was particularly bad at.
The officer gave John a little nod as she passed, then for some strange reason it was at that moment he remembered who she was, Commander Jackson, the ships counselor, or at least she was the ships counselor when she first came aboard, from what he read of the roster she was now the first officer..
“John, it has been some time, I hope you remember the difference between Phasers and torpedoes after all this time.” She remarked jokingly. "I think I can just about remember the difference, torpedo's are those beams of lights aren't they?" he said with a puzzled, yet obviously from the tone of his voice it was obvious a little joke.
(Commander Jackson, if a response is desired) (occ: Sorry for it being so brief, I plan to post my arrival to the briefing room either later today or tomorrow)

S'reena turned in her seat to face Savot. She always made the effort to at least face someone's way when she was talking to someone, so that she wouldn't give the impression of being disinterested. On her shoulder, Auric hissed softly, as she was nearly dislodged. "It isn't unusual for orders to be classified," she stated confidently, "however 'classified' does imply a certain amount of danger."
She paused, giving Savot a chance to ponder on her words. "I would like to remain with the ship."
"As would I," Firestorm spoke up, having caught the last of Savot's words as he'd come bouncing in on all fours.
The Romulan shook his head in dismay at being interrupted. "Can you give us an indication of the dangers we are going to face?"
[Savot/jackson]
"And how dangerous would it be for those with families on board? If too dangerous, I recommend that families be left behind on the starbase. I know Michael may be needed in sickbay, but I would like for our children to at least be taken care of, away from the ship."
[Savot/Jackson]
"Do I need to make my own arrangements, or will arrangements be made. How much time do we have to see to the made or to be made arrangements?"

"Can you give us an indication of the dangers we are going to face?", S'reena inquired, though Savot was forced to remain silent as even he and Jackson had yet to be given any details of the mission. All the senior staff were on the same proverbial page, so Admiral Hayes would have to field the questions.
"And how dangerous would it be for those with families on board? If too dangerous, I recommend that families be left behind on the starbase. I know Michael may be needed in sickbay, but I would like for our children to at least be taken care of, away from the ship", Hayes smiled and nodded at the Romulan scientist's order of priority.
The Admiral first gave a nod to Savot, politely acknowledging his place as Hope's CO, before responding to S'reena herself, "The gravity of the mission requires that it succeed at all costs, and while we certainly hope this won't be the case the destruction of the El Salvador is considered an 'acceptable loss' if it would ensure success where all other attempts have failed." Her tone made clear that she disagreed with just simply stamping 'acceptable losses' on living breathing people just to make sure a job got done, but that was the way of the job sometimes.
"Given this I absolutely concur with your belief that families should remain behind if at all possible. Doctor Hope may accompany you should he so desire, we began preparing for this mission even before you were sent to rescue the Klingon scout ship so all forseeable preparations have been made. Quarters have been set aside for those remaining on Starbase 24 and we have more than enough personnel capable of caring for any children whose parents both accompany the El Salvador for this assignment", Hayes then paused, took another glance around the table to give anyone a chance to back out if they so chose.
Seeing none bow out, Hayes smiled softly, remembering the various officers she'd had the priviledge of serving with in her day, and inwardly rated the El Salvador's crew among the best she'd encountered. The smile faded a moment later; however, as the time came to reveal the dire nature of the mission. "Very well, I'll now introduce you to our source of intel for this mission", Hayes tapped her commbadge and spoke plainly, "Bring him in."
The conference room doors whooshed open to reveal a vulcan male, clad in black, escorted by 5 security guards. And aside from his clothing, and the way the room seemed to decrease in temperature when he walked in, the new arrival was virtually identical to Commodore Savot.
Delbridge, who'd been prepping the El Salvador for several days now, had already seen him and been told the basics of the mission, but what his expression lacked in surprise in made up for in a look of utter unease. The vulcan captain nodded slightly as though he'd just confirmed suspicions he'd already had for some time.
Admiral Hayes turned back to the seated officers, "As most of you have likely guessed, this is your captain's counterpart from what classified Starfleet records refer to as the Mirror Universe. Commodore Savot has previously encountered him while imprisoned by the Meran democracy, but on this occasion Mirror Savot came to us directly."
She keyed commands into the small console in front of her on the conference room table, bringing old El Salvador mission records on both the large screen on the wall, and onto each officer's table screen in front of them. "Just over 3 years ago the El Salvador was involved in recovering the stolen katra of an ancient extremist called Sudoc, and in the process it was revealed that traitorous elements within the vulcan embassy had leaked the command codes for several of our starships. In their pursuit of the Isolationist vessel the El Salvador's computers were severely compromised, necessitating a complete reformat of her core at Starbase Assailant following the mission", Hayes began.
"A team of Bynar specialists performed the reformat, and as per standard procedure, duplicated the entire contents of the El Salvador's network, stored this backup in Assailant's systems until the ship's network had been completely repaired, and finally reintegrated the El Salvador's database into the repaired computer core. Normally, once this has been achieved the backup is purged from the Starbase computers completely... this was not the case in this instance", Hayes turned her head towards Savot's twin, giving him a firm nod to begin his portion of the briefing.
The double walked forward to stand at Hayes' left, his own hands clasped behind him in the posture so indicative of Savot's, then he spoke, "Though the offending party has yet to be identified, someone, rather than deleting this backup of your El Salvador's files as per normal, chose instead to take them and eventually they ended up in the Mirror Universe as you have so creatively designated it. Normally this would be of little consequence especially considering most of the knowledge contained therein is only applicable to this universe & not my own."
He then inserted the 24th century equivalent of a USB drive into the conference table and replaced the old El Sal mission data with an image, likewise visible both on the room's large screen and on the table before each seated officer. The first image was of an asteroid field, then focussed on a particularly large asteroid which seemed to have an opening on one of its sides, and finally confirmed not only that the asteroid was hollow... but also that it contained something very large within it.
Take the design of the El Salvador, and make it half-again as large. Then imagine each of her 4 warp nacelles, and instead of the usual blue visible from the outside, picture all of them completely encased in jet black ablative armor and extended slightly at both the front and back to resemble knives or some similar stabbing implement. It was clear from the layout of the overall ship armor that this 'duplicate' didn't share the El Salvador's ability to undergo separation into MVAM; it was a single, massive, warship undergoing the final stages of construction.
Mirror Savot continued speaking, "The Klingon-Cardassian Alliance of my universe was dealt a serious blow by Terran resistance who managed to obtain schematics of your Defiant-class cloakable vessel, and build their own. It would appear remnants of the Alliance have decided to take a page from their book and do the same in an attempt to re-dominate our Alpha Quadrant. I have been contracted by the Vulcan resistance to see to the destruction of this vessel before it can be let loose upon my universe."
Hayes then interjected, "And as the data used to create this behemoth was either stolen from, or provided by traitors within our Federation, we are also ethically bound to prevent our error from drastically impacting the development of the Mirror Universe. Given the El Salvador's tactical prowess, as well as it being the vessel whose data they obtained to begin with, made her the prime choice to undertake this assignment. There's still a lot of details to brief you all on, but are there any questions so far?"
(Briefing's only about 40-50% done, but wanted to give people a chance to chime in if they had any ?'s and break it up just to avoid putting people to sleep with a novel-length post. SEE OOC THREAD FOR SPECIAL INFO)

Jackson gave Savot a smile as she considered his offer, she then shrugged her shoulders and replied. “Thank you captain, but I don’t think I would be able to sleep anyway.” She didn’t say it out loud but by the looks of the upgrades and repairs done on the El Salvador she wouldn’t be able to sleep after she found out about the mission even if she wanted too.
**Briefing**
Stacey walked in just after Savot and gave a nod to Admiral Hayes, Stacey’s smile dropped and was replaced by a frown as she looked at the Admiral.. Stacey could sense her mood if she had pushed she could have read the Admirals thought and her curiosity would have been sated, but ethics forbid that so she took her seat and merely waited with the rest of the crew.
After the crew had assembled Hayes began her briefing, after only a few minutes the mirror Savot walked in, Stacey kept her expression neutral though slightly surprised she was old enough to had seen stranger things in her career. The briefing went downhill from there talk of stolen data and massive warships. Eventually they stopped for questions and Stacey unusually stood up and walked closer to the displayed blueprints, she then turned and looking the Mirror Savot in the eye and making no effort to hide the fact her betazoid ‘senses’ were fully directed at him she asked. “And how is it your Vulcan resistance managed to get their hands on such detailed schematics of what I would assume would be a secret Terran installation.”
She paused before letting him answer and added. “And I assume since we are going to be dealing with this monster.. your resistance will be providing us with assistance.. we are after all only one ship.”
She didn’t trust him and she had no reason too, the Admirals in headquarters might but trust wasn’t a fatal thing to give if you had the protection of a desk in front of you. And in her time at Starfleet headquarters she had read some of the reports on the mirror universe from what she knew of it Trust was something that could very easily get you killed there.

John was still on the bridge when the time came for the briefing, and had very little rest since arriving aboard the El Sal some 13 hours ago. He gave a slightly tired sigh, trying to hide it at the same time and in the same instance began to walk to the Observation Lounge.
Arriving, he saw Jackson, and Hope had already arrived, as well as Savot and Commander Delbridge. He quickly sat in a seat next to Jackson. He noted that an Admiral was in the room, one he didn't recognize. He understood it was his fault, he hadn't really taken in much off the mission statement that each of the senior staff had been given. He had his copy with him however, so had a quick read through of it under the desk, thus finding out the information he wanted.
John listened intently to Admiral Hayes, as she explained that the El Salvador, if destroyed during this mission would be considered an "acceptable loss". This was something that John certainly didn't like the sound of, and alarm bells began to ring.
These alarm bells where not ended either, but only grew louder in John's head when the doors to the observation lounge opened, and in Stepped Savot, dressed in all black. A little confessed, John Glanced at Commodore Savot, and then once more the black clad figure. 'All will be explained' John thought to himself.
John listened again with absolute devotion to what the MU Savot was telling everyone, and the look of the Mirror El Sal made him shudder. It looked impressive, with the ablative Armour, and it didn't look like it had the ability to split into MVAM.
“And I assume since we are going to be dealing with this monster.. your resistance will be providing us with assistance.. we are after all only one ship.” Jackson asked, something that John was also considering at the time. He listened to the answer given my the MU Savot, and then asked a question of his own.
(Jackson and Mirror Savot)
"You mentioned the Ablative Armour of the Mirror El Sal, but what of the other vessels defensive systems and also weaponry, is that at all available?" he queried, because he wasn't overly keen being led into a potential battle blind, not knowing if the El Sal really had a chance against this truly impressive looking beast.

“And how is it your Vulcan resistance managed to get their hands on such detailed schematics of what I would assume would be a secret Terran installation?”, Commader Jackson asked.
Mirror Savot replied without hesitation, "An Alliance installation actually, that being the remnants of the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance; as the Terran resistance bloodied their noses it is the Alliance that now intends revenge via this vessel. As to the source of the data, it was provided by a group of Ferengi intelligence brokers."
He pre-emptively dipped his head in acknowledgement of the concerns that were likely to be raised, "Even in my universe Ferengi are known for their occasional willingness to exploit. However when dealing with vulcans or telepathically inclined species in general they are reluctant to attempt it as the retribution we could take upon them is far greater than whatever temporary gain false intel would get them. Additionally they were generally oppressed by the Alliance and as such have no desire to see them return to power."
His echo's right hand had paused, letting him answer before she added, “And I assume since we are going to be dealing with this monster.. your resistance will be providing us with assistance.. we are after all only one ship.”
Savot's reflection stood silently listening to Jackson's questions, and when it became obvious her extra 'sense' was fully aimed at him his eyes seemed to hold the hint of amusement though his lips maintained their neutral posture, "The vast majority of the meager resources at the vulcans' disposal are used in maintaining the resistance's cover. They have no surplus in either personnel or equipment to provide noteworthy assistance in a venture of this scope."
"In fact, they are not even aware that I am seeking outside assistance. When they received the intelligence they contracted me to personally see to the vessel's destruction. Having briefly encountered your good Commodore", the freelancer dipped a nod toward his twin, "I was aware of your Federation's pursuit of non-interference and as such believed they might be compelled to assist me. Were I unaware of your existence I would have gone about the task myself, but knowing there were resources available that could increase the probability of my success logic dictated I pursue them. Had your superiors refused I would have returned to my initial expectation of conducting the operation alone, but they saw sufficient reason to offer assistance."
What he permitted to be 'readable' telepathically, clearly showed Mirror Savot held no deception at least with regards to this operation, but beyond that his mind was quite securely guarded. Then, another of his twin's officers, presumably the tactical officer, ventured a question.
"You mentioned the Ablative Armour of the Mirror El Sal, but what of the other vessels defensive systems and also weaponry, is that at all available?", Roberts queried.
The assassin, arms still crossed behind him, nodded at Roberts before replying, "Actually with the name at least they opted to distinguish their vessel from yours; they refer to it rather melodramatically as the Penance. Though the vessel's intent is to exact penance from its foes, not 'doing penance' themselves. Though it cannot separate as your El Salvador can its armor and shielding are extremely formidable, as its larger size allows it to carry a larger power surplus to channel towards either weapons or defense as they deem necessary."
"You'll note its warp nacelles lack the visible plasma storage and venting tubes and are instead completely armored", M-Savot freed his right hand to tap at the wall controls and zoom in on what looked like turrets on the tops, bottoms, and sides of each of the Penance's 4 warp nacelles, "That is because they can vent engine waste that builds up through these energy turrets. Which make them especially troublesome as any ship struck by them may also suffer severe radiation exposure from the contamination shots."
M-Savot returned the screen to its previous view as he went on, "Their disruptors, due to their higher power reserves, are likely to be roughly 30% more powerful than your phasers, and their increased size would allow for up to 50% more torpedoes to be carried than your ship does. However, this increased size also limits its manueverability and its acceleration. It's worth noting that these are the schematically theorized capabilities of the ship, as it has not left its drydock yet it's probable the Penance has not been fully completed and as such would not yet possess the full breadth of these abilities."
Taking a deep breath and letting out a slow exhalation just short of becomming a sigh, the double proceeds, "Which brings us to the first obstacle we will have to overcome." Another series of tapping on the controls brings up what's obviously an earlier picture of the Penance as only the barebones of the hull are visible. Then he sets both images side by side, and emphasizes the stardates of both images. They're only 3 months apart...
"It has been confirmed that the Alliance has somehow created a temporal field within the asteroid's interior such that 1 day passing for us translates to roughly 1 week of time within the asteroid, which explains how a herculean project like this could show almost 2 years of progress in 1/8th that amount of time. This means a number of things for us: One, we cannot simply pilot your vessel into the asteroid or it would be torn apart as it crossed the temporal threshold. Ergo, we have to figure out the precise degree to which time is accelerated within the asteroid and tune your shields accordingly so we can enter safely."
"Fortunately, the time acceleration does als favor us in one way. Because time passes more rapidly within, so too are they required to arrange far more frequent supply runs for material, personnel replacement, and even foodstuffs to a certain degree though they likely are fairly self-sufficient via replicator", M-Savot brings up another image of a run-down looking space station, "Though they've proven intelligent enough to pass up the 7 stations in closest proximity to their asteroid, I've nonetheless managed to track weekly cargo transports to this outpost. Obviously to avoid destruction their cargo ships must have the necessary temporal adjustments to their shields, so through any of several potential means we will procure this knowledge, and adapt it to your El Salvador's shields so we can enter the asteroid."
"Any additional inquiries before I present the final outline of the mission?", Savot's counterpart crossed his arms over his chest this time as he paused a moment.
(Hmm, sorry again for the novella length of the posts... hadn't planned on them taking that much space. Blasted briefings.)

"I'll handle the outline thank you Mr. Savot", Hayes interjected resuming control of the briefing. The reflection was there to provide intel not assume command and it seemed necessary to remind him of that.
"The overall mission will unfold as follows: first we have to get the El Salvador to the Mirror Universe which explains Mr. Delbridge's temporary assignment as your engineer. Those of you who've read your captain's file will know he was accidentally transported there while performing an experimental engine test in the Tural Nebula, to which this is our closest Starbase. Now on that occasion the shuttle was destroyed but Savot and Delbridge both studied the data upon his return to the Jupiter Research station and the necessary modifications have been made to the El Salvador's engines to take her there and back in one piece."
"Once there, the main vessel will remain hidden in the nebula while a team boards the Mini-Sal and goes to this Outpost station to acquire the temporal frequency needed to enter the asteroid from one of their supply transports. Mirror Savot's knowledge of his universe will be crucial and as it would raise eyebrows for both of them to be seen there the station team will be headed by Commander Jackson."
"With the frequency acquired for the El Salvador to enter the asteroid Jackson's team will return to the ship and you'll proceed to the base. In a straight fight the El Salvador has a very slim chance of destroying the Penance outright, so our main hope for victory lies in their having used the El Salvador's computer files."
"At the time, Savot was First Officer and as such possessed half the required command codes to activate the auto-destruct sequence. Commodore Savot being of Flag rank now also possesses Starfleet codes that empower him to assume captaincy of any vessel whose commanding officer is dead or disabled. And upon assuming captaincy our Savot's commanding officer codes will overwrite what would otherwise have been then-Captain Deis Irae's codes, and he and his counterpart will be able to activate the auto-destruct aboard the Penance."
"Unfortunately this will require both Savots to be aboard the ship and gain access to either the bridge or main engineering where the codes can be inputted. One security officer, either Mr. Roberts or another of his choosing will join them and assist their infiltration. The ship is believed to have a large contingent of Jem'Hadar clone troops aboard so a small team has the best chance of getting through."
"Upon successful activation of the auto-destruct the team will have to either get to a transporter room and beam themselves back to the El Salvador or seize fighters to escape since Penance's armor is too thick for the El Salvador transporters to get a lock on their own", Hayes now took a breath and exhaled with a heavy sigh before continuing, "If the auto-destruct attempt is unsuccessful, as stated it is extremely unlikely the El Salvador could destroy Penance through force of arms alone. Therefore your last best attempt will be to discharge chroniton torpedoes within the asteroid to render their temporal field unstable. As it breaks down everything within the field will undergo temporal stress impossible to survive. The problem is you might not have enough time to get out yourselves before the field begins to fail."
Hayes accepted another round of questions if there were any, either answering herself or allowing Mirror Savot to do so if he were better equipped to, and then bid the El Salvador and her crew a heartfelt godspeed. Part of her wanted to go with them and help... but the trouble was that part was still 35 while the rest of her was 72. No, if the mission could be accomplished this was the ship and crew to do it.
Before everyone dispersed Hayes nodded to Delbridge, who rose and crossed the room pulling what looked like a small ruler out of his jacket as he moved to stand beside the reflection, "Your wrist please?"
Mirror Savot arched a brow but raised his left wrist casually, and Delbridge slapped it with the 'ruler' which immediately curled around the wrist like a bracelet. "I've seen this one, know how it ends. This is a little insurance to make sure you don't try impersonating the captain over there. Don't trouble yourself over how it works... just know that it does, and it won't come off until mission's end."
The assassin rolled his eyes as he glanced at the bracelet, upon which were the letters E.T. He sighed with disdain, "Extraterrestrial is only one word. I grow concerned that you are in charge of ensuring our engine stability."
Delbridge grinned for the first time since the briefing started, "Don't worry too much. Extraterrestrial is just one word... but Evil Twin is two."
<Insert any questions/answers before end of briefing>
************************************************ [Time of Departure]
All non-essential personnel safely aboard the starbase, the El Salvador got clearance to disembark and drifted back from the docking umbillicals. Savot sat in the center seat and activated a comm-line to engineering, =^=Mr. Delbridge, are we prepared?=^=
=^=Ready as we'll ever be Captain=^=, came the cheerful but no-nonsense reply. Savot nodded as he usually did even though the other end of the conversation couldn't see the act, "Helm, best speed to the Tural Nebula, engage."

She remained silent as Hayes and Mirror Savot outlined the overall mission plan, Stacey couldn’t help but think of one word, “Ridiculous.” It came down to what Admiral Hayes pointed out would be a three man team infiltrating the warship and evading Jem’Hadar clone warriors long enough to blow it up. And one of the three men would be someone they had just met who despite allowing her to sense enough to tell he was being truthful at that particular moment held didn’t give her the feeling of trust nor respect.
Her Betazoid instincts may not be enough to convince any one else of her feelings but she was old enough to know that she trusted her gut. Eventually things seemed to get worse.. the backup plan involved Stacey moving the ‘real’ El-Salvador close enough to fire torpedoes that would destroy the ship.. She noticed that no escape plan for the three man team had been presented so she knew that if the time came Starfleet expected her to fire on and destroy the vessel with her crewman on board.
Thankfully for her sanity and ability to hold her tongue the briefing came to an end, the mission specified and stakes outlined there was now no time for doubt or questions it was time to get too work.
Walking out onto the bridge she ignored the interaction between Mirror Savot and Delbridge, she did noticed the wrist band that had been placed on him and had faith that it would work but she wanted extra assurances. She had no reason to trust Mirror Savot and even less reason to trust the Vulcan resistance whom he worked for, it may well have been paranoid but for all she knew this Vulcan resistance may decide that ‘capturing’ the real El Sal or the monster version for their own use may be a possibility worth trying.
Pointing to two Security officer she said. “Follow me Gentleman.” Leading them back into the briefing room she looked to Mirror Savot and said. “Mister Savot.. as you are our only source of information for this mission you can understand my need for your.. ‘Protection’ these gentleman here are going to assure your continued safety aboard our ship.. and Despite the Vulcan resistance giving you this mission please be aware that now you have come to us for help we are in charge.. your role is as an advisor Command falls to our Savot and to me.”
She nodded at the two security officers and then looked back to Mirror Savot. “Do have a good day Mister Savot.”
She left and returned to the bridge, she watched as Commodore Savot ordered the course set and to engage. Her eyes moved to the view screen and watched as the stars began to speed past. Looking to the tactical station she said. “Commander Roberts.. go over the specifications of the Penance as it has been called, try to find as many weaknesses as you can and the best path for getting aboard and too the bridge or engineering.. and then go over the specifications of the chroniton torpeodoes make sure they will properly destabilize the temporal field….”
She paused as her head began to ache just thinking about the complexities involved, she shrugged and then clearly stated. “Just make sure they will blow the damned thing up.”
<Tag Roberts>
looking down to Commodore Savot she nodded and said. “I am going to be in my office if you need me sir, I think one of the science departments wants to take pot shots at us for our ‘lack’ of scientific based missions.. and as I said that is where I will be if you need me.. Which I am fairly sure will be in ten minutes.” Nodding she added. “Ten Minutes.”

John listened to the objectives of the away team, while also trying to think of a few possible ways to manage to pull it, as well as get everyone back safely. It seemed a hard task, to sneak aboard an already well armed vessel, that would already have a partial crew aboard, as well as construction crews. To manage this undetected, would not be an easy task, and he certainly didn't want to risk the lives of other, never mind himself, but he understood at the same time, that sometimes there is no other choice.
The briefing ended, and John had no real questions to ask, to him everything was crystal clear. He stood at the tac/sec terminal, and began to review the layout of both the construction facility, and the Penance as it had been called, despite it being modelled on the El Sal, he figured there would be enough differences to warrant checking.
"I'm already working on it, but what I have to say is this is going to be no easy feat by any means, getting aboard could be a job and half it's self. He said grimly, "But, I will manage it, some how.
Stacey paused and rubbed her head slightly, she shrugged and then clearly stated. “Just make sure they will blow the damned thing up.”
"I'll ensure that it happens ma'am" he replied, before she left and John again began to review the specs on the screen before him"

.:.Backpost.:.
Sarah ran on board the El'Salvador and looked at the Ensign standing there before her awaiting her response. The Bajoran smiled hiding her embarassment as her face flushed. "Ensign Clarke reporting on board." She replied looking at him and showing him her PADD. The officer in yellow nodded and she got by him.
Typical she thought demonically as she stepped past and headed straight for her newly assigned quarters. Once inside she finally breathed tightening her pack for a moment, then dropped it slowly to the deck. She was still unaware of where the ship was heading, but they would be pulling out, and she was a last minute add on to the ship's staff. And, the Senior Staff at that. Just shows how desperate Starfleet is. The young officer found herself thinking as she quickly changed...
.:.Present.:.
Sarah stood inside engineering she noticed Commander Delbridge standing there hoping that perhaps he could possibly tell her something she was after all the new Chief Engineering Officer. "Commander, I heard that there was a classified briefing, but I was unable to arrive in time, I am Ensign Clarke the new Chief Engineer on board. I think I should have some sort of need to know?"
<tag>
She furrowed her brow, "We should speak of this in my office..."

Stricken and angry at the same time, S'reena paced her quarters, uncannily avoiding her husband's out-stretched arms at each time as he tried to soothe her. “I'm being reassigned,” she stated in disbelief, “Starfleet thinks the El-Salvador is too dangerous for me, for us.” She was infuriated, beyond reason. “Too dangerous! Only because I am blind!”
Michael didn't know how to respond, it was better to just let her be enraged for a while and make sure she didn't break anything in the process. It was known that Romulans had very volatile tempers and were extremely passionate people. His wife was no different, despite her handicap which was, in truth, slightly diminished through the presence of her constant companion, Auric. The little gold had found a perch on his shoulder, hissing in anger as she echoed S'reena's fury.
“This is my home!” she seethed, “how can they expect me to settle anywhere, if they keep transferring me because of danger? How can I learn to adapt, when they don't give me time to do so?”
“I'm sure they have a valid reason,” Michael soothed, “perhaps it's simply because you are needed on the Jefferson much harder than you are needed here. And you're not going alone, Firestorm is coming with us. He's your doctor, and your friend. He said he'd come with us as there's a doctor incoming, from the Jefferson so we can take their shuttle back.”
“It isn't right!” S'reena whirled around and strode out of their quarters. “I'm going to see the captain, you pack up here. We've no choice in the matter, apparently. I'm sure neither had Savot.”
Neither parent noticed a little girl, white faced and tear stained, slip out of the family quarters.
Her anger palpable to everyone on the bridge, S'reena approached the Vulcan commanding officer, thrusting a PADD at him. “Apparently, Starfleet thinks this assignment is too dangerous for me,” she snarled, “I'm being transferred. I'm sorry captain there's nothing anyone can do about this, they're quite firm.” She paused, drawing in a deep breath. “As soon as Jefferson's shuttle arrives, my family and I will be leaving.”
Savot took the PADD wordlessly, caught off guard by the sudden transfer. Whoever had orchestrated it had timed it perfectly because this close to beginning their mission in full there was no time for him to even attempt to call in any favors he might have had amongst the brass and contest the transfer of one of his most valued officers and, he felt, a friend. "I'm sorry Commander; I had no knowledge such a transfer was being made."
The Romulan took another deep breath, then held up her hand in a perfect imitation of a Vulcan salute. “It's been an honour working with you sir,” she stated firmly and confidently. It was an honest statement, she had been honoured, because he had given her the room to employ herself and come to terms with her handicap, and he had taught her a few things too, also in combat. “We'll never forget you, and this crew.”
Savot straightened his posture slightly and raised his own right hand in a Vulcan salute as well, his eyes narrowing slightly as both his concern and regret neared the surface, "The honor and priviledge has been mine Commander Hope. The El Salvador was made richer by your presence and your family's absence will be sorely felt. I sincerely hope I have the opportunity to serve with you again. May your family's journey be free of incident... Live long and prosper."

[Briefing Room]
Savot of the Mirror Universe stood stoically holding that expression that, while still within vulcan neutrality, seemed to hold the potential of expressing humor at any moment. He listened to Commander Jackson's little soapbox moment, sparing a quick glance to the security personnel who'd be keeping him company. "Obviously your personnel will retain operational command, as I am unfamiliar with your regulations and procedures which would lead to a decrease of efficiency were I giving the orders. I know you are unlikely to believe me but I have no interest in sabotaging your people or vessel, since doing so would limit your ability to assist with the mission and place more of the burden upon myself. I'm sure your guards are equally dedicated to my 'protection' as you put it. Good day, Commander", he echoed her spoken sentiment and followed her out moments later so the guards could show him to his temporary quarters aboard the El Salvador.
*************************************************** [Bridge]
Captain Savot sat at his chair when Jackson approached and let him know where she'd be. He arched a brow; however, at her assumption that he'd have need of her within 10 minutes since he couldn't think of what would prompt said need. But he nodded in reply anyway, having faith that he'd soon understand if there was something to understand, "Very well Commander, thank you. I'll contact you should the need arise."
Following Jackson's departure Savot rose and walked the few steps to the Tac/Sec station at which Commander Roberts was currently working, "Mr. Roberts, as you know from the mission briefing the final phase of the mission calls for a trained security officer to accompany us aboard the Penance itself, but the El Salvador will also need a capable Tactical officer should it become necessary for them to engage the behemoth in combat. I leave the decision to you as to where you feel your talents would best serve, whether to accompany us to the enemy craft and leave your top Tactical subordinate here on the bridge, or vice versa. You may take time to consider the matter if you wish."
<Roberts>
************************************************* [Engineering]
Delbridge was running yet another simulation to ensure the engine modifications he'd made would see them safely to the Mirror Universe and back without the crossover strain ripping the El Salvador to pieces. As the results came back positive for the upteenth time, he turned to cheer triumphantly and was greeted by the sight of a female Ensign with what was presumably a PADD of transfer orders. She didn't waste any time introducing herself and getting straight to business either, an attitude Delbridge figured would serve her well working with a captain like Savot.
He nodded after she spoke, "Welcome aboard Ensign, Commander Chester Delbridge, temporary engineering assignment for the duration of this mission. Long story short, the captain's evil twin from the Mirror Universe came to Starfleet with intel that a major player over there got their hands on a copy of the El Salvador's computer logs and are building themselves a bigger better battleship with that data. Naturally Starfleet felt remiss in allowing our technology to be used to dominate the MU and as such we're tasked with destroying the thing."
She furrowed her brow, "We should speak of this in my office..."
Delbridge grinned, she was taking it better than he had when he first heard the nigh-absurd plan, and pointed the way to the CEO's office on the Engineering deck, "After you, Ensign Clarke."
Once they arrived, Delbridge played the ship's video recording of the mission briefing from the conference room, the classified footage only available via senior officer I.D. codes and retina scan, so she could see and hear the whole shabang directly from the proverbial horse's mouth. When it was over, he addressed the seniority issue, "Engineering as a whole is all yours, ship repairs, etc. My only sphere of direct influence is over the engine mods needed to get us there and back in one piece, and there's just not enough time to get you up to speed enough on them to warrant removing me completely. Everything else, you're the boss lady and I'm more than happy to heed your orders, and when we're back victorious I'll be out of your way entirely. Sound ok?"

The trip to the El-Salvador, while taking longer than expected, went without incident. The occupants of the shuttle were a little worn down from the travel as well as the emotional goodbyes that had occurred between the occupants, and their friends on the Jefferson. Now, they were on final approach to the El-Salvador and permission was already received to take berth in the Prometheus class shuttlebay.
Their pilot smoothly parked the shuttle and waited for the bay to pressurise before he opened the hatch and allowed the occupants to depart. The boy was out first, laughing in delight at feeling solid ground beneath his feet again. He was met by a girl a little older than he, who stared at him in disapproval. Jayden, carrying little Angel on his arm, was the second one off the small craft, followed close on his heels by his husband. Hannah and Donovan were the last ones off.
“Jayden, why don't you see the quartermaster and arrange for our quarters, then see if you can find the school for Freddy? I need to have a word with Firestorm.” He inclined his head towards the giant cat, which waited a few paces away, occasionally lashing his tail in anxiety. Jayden nodded in response and ushered the seven year old boy away from the other glaring child.
“Firestorm, it's good to see you again,” Nathan greeted his old friend and fellow doctor. “I see you are accompanying this family to the Jefferson?”
The copper coloured cat nodded in response, coiling his tail around the Human's wrist in greeting and friendship. “Aye,” he purred, “you have news for me?” He angled his head around to study Commander and Doctor Hope, who were busy loading the shuttle with their belongings, children running back and forth between them and the silver craft. “She's very angry at being transferred,” he said confidently.
“I can imagine,” the civillian doctor replied, holding out a PADD. “I'm confident you're able to perform this procedure. It isn't set in stone, but if my information is correct, and knowing my brother, it ought to be, then she should be able to have her sight restored. It may take a few repeats of the procedure though, given the time since the incident occurred.” He marveled at the golden creature hovering over the Romulan woman. “The Firelizard has grown since you last spoke of her,” he remarked quietly, “has she learned to aid her companion?”
Firestorm laughed, a eerie imitation of a Human laugh mixed with a purr. “Oh aye she has. And a fierce defender too, you should've seen her tousle the captain's hair when she disagreed once. It was almost funny.” He stopped laughing as he scanned the content of the PADD. “Yes I can perform this procedure, the starbase we're headed, before joining Jefferson will have medical staff availale, no doubt.” The Sivaoan looked up, releasing the Human's wrist. “You'll find sickbay in order doctor,” he reported formally, “though I suggest you report in to the captain immediately. Things are afoot, and he better know you're available. And I think you'll get along just fine, him being as Vulcan as they come.”
“I'm sure,” Nathan replied, gesturing towards the shuttle. “Looks like they're eager to depart, you'd better get aboard my friend.” He gave the giant cat a careful hug, being quite aware of the danger it put him in. He smiled as Firestorm returned the hug, his claws sheathed even though he could feel Firestorm strain against unsheathing them. “Take care of them, and let me know if the procedure worked for her.”
He watched the cat board, then hurried out of the bay before it depressurised. Knowing that Jayden was gone to see the quartermaster and that the duty officer here would see to it that their belongings would be transferred there, Nathan picked up the PADD with their transfer orders, and headed up for the bridge. He felt a little nervous, as this was only his second assignment aboard a starship, after having lived on the Jefferson for a very long time. How different would Savot be from Matt Reynolds? There were very few stories going around about this particular commodore, very few indeed, and none to base a solid opinion on.
The turbolift car halted at the bridge, and Nathan stepped off, taking a moment to glance around. After a few seconds, he stepped down to the command center and offered the PADD to the only Vulcan present. “Doctor Nathan van Breughel, reporting in as Chief Medical Officer,” he stated formally. “And if it's all right sir, I prefer to be addressed as Nathan, as many can't pronounce my last name in any decent fashion. Nathaniel is also permissible, if desiring to be formal.”
It had been about half an hour since S'reena's abrupt farewell on the bridge and outwardly the vulcan captain had fully regained his composure. His mind, too, was fully on the job but he couldn't shake the illogical sense that losing some of his best people even as the mission got started was a bad omen. Nevertheless, none of that was the fault of those incoming and as such they deserved the attention and decency due any new personnel.
Savot rose from his chair respectfully, taking the offered PADD from the doctor who'd identified himself, "Welcome to the El Salvador Doctor van Breughel. I'm Commodore Savot, though on-duty I prefer Captain as it's a more efficient appellation." He used the man's last name once to assure him it would at the very least not be butchered by the captain, but as vulcan true names were known for being all-but-impossible for a human to pronounce it likely came as no surprise to Nathan that Savot could manage it.
Savot acknowledged the receipt of transfer orders and saw that the Doctor's quarters were already in the process of being assigned, and he nodded with satisfaction at the relative smoothness with which the impromptu shift of personnel was going before handing the PADD back to the CMO, "I apologize for the immediacy of our situation but I'm afraid you've come aboard during a mission in which time is of the essence. I've synched your CMO access codes for clearance to view the visual logs made of our briefing so you can familiarize yourself with our orders. Aside from standard starship combat injuries there is also a high potential for radiation exposure, the EMH will be able to provide you with a list of the most likely types we could encounter. I'll leave you to get settled in as much as possible Doctor; please contact me should you have any questions or input regarding the briefing logs."

Post by SA. Stacey Jackson [Ret] on Jun 30, 2010 22:34:32 GMT
“I am sorry Commander the but the fact is this ship has seldom been assigned scientific missions.. it is a mystery why we even have a science department.” The middle aged Lieutenant seemed to drone on and on about his displeasure at the lack of things for his department to do.. he had been for twenty minutes and Stacey had hardly been able to get a word in.
She glanced down at the computer console and noted that only twenty minutes had passed, she took a deep breath as she tried to shake the feeling twenty years had gone by. ‘He is going to pay, I’m gonna kill him… I will go to prison.. that’s a down side.. but it may be worth it’ she thought as she stewed over the fact Savot had obviously missed her subtle hint to call her after ten minutes.
She had stopped listening but the scientist kept on talking and Stacey retreated into her own mind. ‘Can a first officer initiate a self destruct on her own?.. Worth a try.. No knowing my luck only me and this jerk would live.. and he would still be whinging.’
She leaned back, ‘I could fake a heart attack.. That might work.. No I would have to fall on the floor would mess up my hair.’ She took another deep breath and nodded as if she was intently listening to every word the man was saying. ‘Did I have breakfast this morning? I can’t remember.. oh by the deities he is driving me senile.. oh wait yes toast.. but it wasn’t very good.. I remember now thank goodness for that.’
He stopped and looked at her and Stacey suddenly realised she was supposed to respond without thinking she said. “I’m sorry what?”
He started again and Stacey’s stomach turned as she thought. ‘You stupid stupid fool, now he will tell the whole thing again.. why why would I say that.. AHHH I’m going to die in here that’s his plan he is going to bore me to death as revenge.’
After a further five minutes Stacey stood up and finally decided to put an end to it rude or not. “Lieutenant.. I am sorry.. but there is something I need to take care of.. very important.. life or death kind of thing.. First officer stuff you understand.”
He frowned as he replied. “Oh well perhaps we can continue this later.. I still have more points to bring up.”
Stacey’s eyes widened. “ Uh.. well… no you see the Captain would be better suited for that discussion.. I will see to it he has an hour or two to hear you out at some point.” She grinned ‘then I kill him’ she thought.
She motioned to her office door and watched the man leave, once he had gone Stacey sighed as she fell into her chair, her headache had become a migraine.. she put her hand to her head and sighed as she felt the heat.. She pushed the button on her desks top drawer in order to pull out some of her pain killers and sighed again in frustration as she saw she was all out.
“Blast it all.. this isn’t my day.” She muttered to herself with disdain as she got up out of the chair, She stormed out of the office with a look on her face that said. ‘if you want to live leave me alone’
Finally making it to sickbay she stepped in and looked at the civilian man she didn’t recognise.
“Where is Firestorm?”
<Tag Nathan>
“Oh I see well welcome aboard Doctor.” She cleared her throat before saying. “I have a migraine.. unfortunately I don’t have much of an option for sleep or rest at the moment.. so if you would be so kind as to prescribe me something that would be appreciated… and the moment it is possible I will take a rest I promise.”

**Later**
Stepping into Engineering Stacey took a deep breath, she didn’t much like the place, if only for the reason most of what was said in the room went over her head and left her feeling like a raw cadet. In that regard she had made remarkable progress in the last year but it still wasn’t easy.
She walked around glancing at some consoles and looking as if she had complete understanding of everything, she had found most of her job was pure acting anyway.. Acting confident for others to get a sense of ease.. or Acting like she had a complete grasp of everything in the universe so others had confidence in her.
She finally found the new Chief Engineer whom she had come in search for, “Ensign.. I am Commander Jackson.. I see we were in a briefing when you came aboard so I came down to welcome you.. I know it is a bit unfair of Starfleet to send you here and expect you to hit the ground running.. but it only means they have complete confidence in your abilities.”

“Good, well if you need anything don’t be afraid to ask.” Stacey gave a short nod before turning and making her way back to the turbolift.
