Nika had assembled all the senior staff in the briefing room once the final repairs on the Victory were complete and she had heard back from Starfleet command regarding one very important issue. She, had, after some thought, decided on combining Davis' briefing with her announcement, because they were tied closely together, and because it didn't make sense to have people gather two separate times. Although she was sure Davis would have appreciated a little extra time.
“Good Morning,” she greeted the crew members seated around the table. “As a result of Nack's promotion to Captain of the Nevada, his position as second in command has been vacant.” She was aware that she was being wordy, but she was just trying to phrase the information in a way so as not to offend or disappoint any of the other senior staff. She was nervous, so the extra words just kind of found their way into her speech.
But she still believed in getting right to the point. “Commander Russell Davis will be taking over his position as XO of the Victory. Congratulations.” She smiled at Davis. Her own promotion to first officer had been...rather more chaotic than this. There had been no immediate formal announcement, she had just started work right away. Nika was of the opinion that this felt much better.
She gave people a chance to pass their congratulations on to Commander Davis, before nodding at him to give the mission briefing.

Tiana arrived in the briefing room and took the seat next to Russell. She had downed enough coffee prior to the meeting to ensure that she was properly awake.
When everyone was assembled the Captain began to speak. She announced Russell's new position and Tiana broke into a big smile. She managed to restrain herself from hugging him there and then and settled for squeezing his hand under the table and planning a celebratory meal for two. She knew he'd do a good job as a first officer and she was quite sure he'd look good in red.
"Congratulations", was her smiling comment.

As Russell picked up the last Padd that had been littering his office, he remembered he was meant to be in a staff briefing which he was meant to be giving, ‘well I am a counsellor, she will cut me some slack’ Russell thought as he rushed out of his office. As he arrived he noted two new faces around the table ‘ah the new senior officers, they have good timing’ sitting down next to Tiana Russell took one last look at his notes before looking at the captain to start. As the captain began to speak he noted that Robert was starting to look like he was about to receive a present, “Commander Russell Davis will be taking over his position as XO of the Victory. Congratulations.” Russell looked at the captain in shock, though he had the feeling Robert had the same look. As the senior officers each said their congratulations in their own way Russell felt even more nervous about the imminent briefing than before.
Russell stepped up as all the senior staff settled down ‘why did she ask me to give this, it is like my first day’ “Firstly I would like to welcome the two new additions to our crew, Lieutenant Keran who will be taking the position of the Chief Medical Officer, I wish you luck. And also Lieutenant Blakus who will be taking the position of Chief Engineer, I know have faith that the ship will not explode when we decide to go to warp.” Russell made a nervous smile that he hoped no one noticed, nervous Russell activated the hologram of their destination “Okay everyone, the Kavris System, as some of you may be aware the war of Kavris three ended 2 years ago. For those of you who do not know, this war began between two of Kavris three’s moons, Valnot and Pelli. Both groups require a certain mineral found only one their own moons and the planet to which they orbit for their technology. The war lasted 5 years during which time a small band of civilians from both moons left and set up in an abandoned mining colony. Towards the end of the war Kavris 3 sent out a signal to the federation requesting aid to end the war in exchange for a small sample of their mineral.”
“The Federation sent two Prometheus class ships, the USS Estha and the USS Galileo-B. They were ordered to protect the planet while escorting a high ranking diplomat in the hopes of ending the war peacefully. Both moons launched their full force against the ships as they arrived; we are not sure who, but a missile was fired which caused the outright destruction of the USS Estha and almost all of the ships in both fleets. All the remaining ships were badly damaged and gradually fell towards the planet’s atmosphere.”
“Since then the federation has been sending Ambassadors to the 3 parties hoping to create a lasting peace treaty between them. We are to report to Kavris 3 where Captain Cir’Kem will attend a ceremony on behalf of the Federation where the peace treaty will be signed and a neutral base on the planets only available moon will become operational. While we are stationed here the Kavris ruling Council, the Pelli parliament and the Valnot General have asked if we can lend aid to their medical staff while we are in orbit, we should expect radiation poisoning on all the planetary bodies from the war. Also Valnot has had some civil unrest in the last few weeks so the moon’s medical facilities could always do with an extra pair of hands or several. They also wish us to confirm their findings that the explosion that marked the end of the war has left no long lasting harm to the planet, the moons or the surrounding space.”
Russell felt slightly more relieved now that he had got though the information section without a hitch, “So Commander Galwyn, I want you to prepare the ship to begin scans of the three moons and the surrounding space, and also prepare a science team to travel to the planet to scan the planet’s surface as our ships sensors may not be able to get though. Lieutenant Keran could you arrange your medical teams to assist the three nations upon our arrival, Commander Sharp please ensure that all the teams are properly escorted by our security officers as well as ensuring that the base is secure, I would like to have this ceremony go off without someone getting assassinated. Commander Matthews and Lieutenant Blakus would you please ensure that the base will become fully operational when they press the button, I would rather we not have the embarrassing moment of having the base not come alive when we want it to.”
Russell could not help but start smiling at the last comment he said, “Any questions, otherwise let’s get to work, we have much left to do”

B'reca had been in her new quarters for all of three seconds before she realised that she would have to hurry if she didn't want to be late for the mission briefing. She'd arrived on the Victory five hours ago, but most of that time had been spent meeting her staff and becoming accustomed to the infirmary, where she would spend most of her time. The previous CMO's system of organisation made absolutely no sense to her, so she'd spent an hour and a half rearranging everything to suit her needs.
Thankfully, she made it to the briefing with time to spare, and sat down next to Blakus, as he was the only person she knew here. Before they had time to exchange greetings, the meeting was called to order, and the Victory's new CO was introduced. The woman sitting to his left looked more pleased than Commander Davis did - he seemed to be in shock about the whole thing.
The Commander soon got over his initial surprise and briefed them on their mission. It seemed simple enough to B'reca, and something that she would play a big part in, as the people suffering from radiation poisoning would need medical assistance. Before the briefing had even ended, B'reca was considering who to include on her medical teams, based on the personnel files she'd memorised and the impressions she'd gained from her staff upon meeting them.

“ A lot of Station service and Operational records are missing or miss place Captain we wont know what shape the base is in until Lt, Blakus and my self get some Teams on to the base and start a system Analysis of the Station I believe any thing we will need to carryout all repairs on the base and make it fully active can be taken from the ship Stores“

Lieutenant Blakus' journey to Starbase Assailant had been largely uneventful. He had arrived and found out that the Victory was due to depart very soon. A moment of panic ensued for Blakus, but he stopped and smiled at himself. No rush. His belongings were beamed aboard the station straight from the shuttlecraft, and from there they were beamed using the Cargo transporters on to his new ship. They were hardly going to be able to leave without their CEO at any rate.
Andae strolled through the spacedock level of the starbase. He walked along a curving corridor which had large panoramic windows set into one side. And what a panorama! Several giant Federation vessels were docked there, different from the Academy base Conqueror. He caught a glorious glimpse of the Victory. An interesting design, Blakus had always thought, Galaxy era, except for the 'weapons pod' affixed to the rear of the ship, hearkening from the days of the Miranda class or the ancient Soyuz class.
He took a travel pod to the ship, they were always bigger when you got close up. Blakus wondered what state he'd find the engine room in as he listened to the docking mechanism secure itself to the Victory. He stepped out onto the Victory and took an instinctive deep breath, the smell of something new.
It didn't take him long to find his quarters after a bit of asking around, Blakus wanted to get on with his new shipmates, the best way was to get to know them straight away. He stepped into his new quarters, wow. It was so much bigger than his cramped 'quarters' on the USS Hepta, ah the priveleges of rank, he thought happily. Blakus spent some time sorting out all his belongings and putting everything in some sort of order, then he found himself standing and looking out of the viewport. The sight of the starbase's huge docking arena was breathtaking, but he was reminded that nothing compared to open space when the Victory left Assailant far behind. The infinitely distanced black wall of space with the white specks piercing that blackness, it filled Blakus' dark eyes and made them darker.
A comm call came through then calling for the senior staff to report to the briefing room.
The lieutenant entered the briefing room and instantly saw B'reca, man it was coincidental that the two former cadets were both on the same ship. Blakus took the free seat next to her, slightly aware that he was technically her superior officer, which caused him a degree of amusement. He listened intently to the briefing and absorbed the information, it had only been a few days since the end of the Hepta mission and he had only just recovered and been cleared for duty. Strangely though, he felt fully ready for this mission. The mission sounded straight-forward enough, all though Blakus knew from the Hepta that nothing was straight-forward. He thought about whether or not they could actually get to their destination without things going wrong this time.
The briefing started after the announcement of the new first officer. Blakus naturally gave his congratulations despite not knowing the man. There seemed to be something or other going on between the aforementioned and the CScO, Blakus shook his head dimunitively, he didn't want to know or have anything to do with that.
After the briefing finished several of the officers started chipping in ideas, "...we wont know what shape the base is in until Lt, Blakus and my self get some Teams on to the base and start a system Analysis of the Station I believe any thing we will need to carryout all repairs on the base and make it fully active can be taken from the ship Stores"
Blakus listened to the officer who he assumed was the Operations officer and nodded, "I can't imagine from the look of the report on the bases construction/repair that these people are experienced engineers. They seem to be more concerned with fighting with each other," he said.

Tiana listened as Russell gave the briefing, she vaugly remembered reading something about the research done on the mineral, Karvinite, it had made very impressive reading. She knew she'd have to dig the research out again before they arrived.
She winced when he mentioned the distruction of two Promethus class ships. From the sound of it the planet itself was a formidable force...
"So Commander Galwyn, I want you to prepare the ship to begin scans of the three moons and the surrounding space, and also prepare a science team to travel to the planet to scan the planet’s surface as our ships sensors may not be able to get though. She nodded, as Russell gave out the orders. "Yes, sir."
After the briefing was over Tiana waited at the science station on the bridge, she was gathering data on the Karvis system but mostly she was waiting for the new crew members to pass by. It hadn't been that long ago that she had been the newbie on this ship and everyone had made her feel welcome, she wanted to do the same for them.
"Hi," she smiled "Welcome to the Victory. I'm Tiana. Pleased to meet you."

When the meeting disbanded, B'reca headed back to sickbay to organise her three away teams. She had already decided that she'd lead the team sent to Valnot, and she had a pretty good idea who she wanted to be the other two team leaders. With this in mind, she called them both to her office and discussed who else to send with them to Kavris 3 and its moons. The meeting lasted a little over two hours, and by the time it was finished, B'reca was ready for a break. She left sickbay and started walking, letting her feet take her where they wanted to go. It was time she familiarised herself with the ship - if there was a medical emergency somewhere on board, she wanted to be able to get to the scene as quickly as possible.
When she reached a dead end with a turbolift, B'reca decided that she would take it to the bridge. The science station may have information on the natives of the Kavris system that she would find useful - anything about their physiology, or cultural quirks that would hinder her in doing her job.
"Hi," the science officer greeted her. "Welcome to the Victory. I'm Tiana. Pleased to meet you."
"B'reca," she replied, trying to seem friendly. This kind of social situation wasn't exactly her expertise. "It's an honour to meet you. Have you served aboard the Victory for long?"
<Tag Tiana>
"I was wondering what information you have about the natives of the Kavris system," she continued. "If there's anything that could be of use to the medical department..."

“ A lot of Station service and Operational records are missing or miss place Captain we wont know what shape the base is in until Lt, Blakus and my self get some Teams on to the base and start a system Analysis of the Station I believe any thing we will need to carryout all repairs on the base and make it fully active can be taken from the ship Stores” Russell listened to James’ comments, finding little that he could argue about he was about to respond when the new CEO spoke "I can't imagine from the look of the report on the bases construction/repair that these people are experienced engineers. They seem to be more concerned with fighting with each other," Russell smiled ‘he may be young, but he is to the point’ “Well Commander Matthews I can not argue with what you have said, when we arrive if you believe anything is needed to ensure the base becomes operational then I will sign off on it, and on your point Lieutenant Blakus, to what I read the base was mostly constructed by the Planet’s people but yes the constant fighting between the three sides has most likely hampered their attempts to make this base properly, so I am relying on both of you to get the base up to scratch.” Russell looked at both officers, he still did not like the idea of ordering someone that only ten minutes before had outranked him.
As the briefing finished he made sure both of the new senior staff remembered that if they needed anything they only had to ask. Walking onto the Bridge h could not help but look at the seat to the right of the captains’, his seat. He noted that the Captain was not on the bridge, but they needed to get going so he decided that he would get the ball rolling and hope that she did not mind, “Helm place a request into space dock for clearance to leave, then begin prep for departure” As the bridge officers began to work on getting the ship ready for their trip Russell wondered where Nika was, it was not like her not to be on the bridge when they were leaving. As the various stations reported their various departments were ready for departure a comm. came though from the star base =/\=Star base Assailant to the Victory, you are cleared to leave space dock=/\= Russell looked at the view screen before responding “thank you Assailant, Victory out” Russell then turned to the Helm officer “okay helm, take us out, nice and easy” Russell watched the view screen as the Victory started to slowly edge out of dock. When the Victory was finally clear of the base Russell gave the order to plot a course to Kavris three and with this the Victory went to warp.
Happy that he had not had a problem with getting the ship out he began to think of how many ways this mission could go wrong ‘so this is what Nack went through every mission, I will have to ask him how he dealt with it’. It was at this point that Russell realised he was still wearing his blue uniform half jumping out of his seat he made his way to the back of the bridge “you have the bridge commander”
<Tag Bridge>
As Russell was in his quarters changing into a red command uniform he quickly sent a message to the captain ensuring that she was aware that they were on their way and he would see her either on the bridge or in her ready room when she was ready. As he finished changing Russell quickly grab the Padd and sent out a request he should have done during the briefing.
TO: ALL DEPARTMENT HEADS FROM: COMMANDER RUSSELL DAVIS, XO RE: DEPARTMENT REPORTS
COULD ALL DEPARTMENT HEADS PLEASE ENSURE THAT I HAVE A STATUS REPORT BY THE TIME WE ARRIVE AT KARVIS THREE. I AM SORRY I FORGOT TO ASK THIS IN THE BRIEFING BUT IT IS MY FIRST DAY. COMMANDER DAVIS <Tag ALL>
Russell then made his way back to Sickbay so to make sure the new CMO was settling in well and to be her first patient, he also planned to work out if there was anything else he had forgotten ‘knowing me the captain’ Russell laughed a little at the thought before entering the turbo lift.
(OOC here we go guy and girls, i just hope i did not really leave anyone on the dock lol)

After further discussions on the mission Commander Russell and the Captain dismissed the senior staff. Lieutenant Blakus walked out of the room and stepped onto the bridge, which was like a smaller version of the Galaxy class bridge. He walked over to the engineering station and powered it up, taking a few status checks he realised that he would have to submit a status report (something that was confirmed to the officer later when he received such a request from the XO).
Andae had thus far settled in well on the Victory, and felt fully comfortable talking to the science officer who then introduced herself. "Hi," she smiled "Welcome to the Victory. I'm Tiana. Pleased to meet you."
Blakus smiled back, his dark eyes flickered, "Good to meet you too sir," he replied, "Or do you prefer ma'am?"
<Tag Tiana>
After a brief conversation Blakus excused himself and headed to engineering. He hadn't had an opportunity to check out the warp core and as the Victory had already jumped to warp he felt he should be there. Blakus entered.
Everyone looked around, and Blakus grinned at his new staff, his. A tall man approached him from the other side of the warp core. Now Blakus was six feet tall, but he still felt that he had to crane his neck to this Gulliver. "Lieutenant Junior Grade Holland sir," the man introduced himself, "I'm your Assistant Chief Engineering Officer."
"Good to meet you lieutenant," Blakus said simply, he shook hands with his subordinate and indicated the Core, "How are the engines, is everything at peak efficiency?"
"Affirmative sir."
"Very well Lieutenant, carry on." Blakus looked around engineering as the assistant went back to work, and then went into his small office area. He found himself staring into space, something he often did when in a period of change. Looking at the walls of his office he thought how strange it was that just more than a week ago he was serving as a cadet in an engineering not dissimilar to this one. Andae decided it was high time to call the bridge, =/\=Bridge, this is engineering, just to confirm that you have full warp speed at your disposal sir.=/\= Blakus wasn't sure who was in command on the bridge so he left the comm call intentionally ambiguous.

Nika believed that everyone, in the end, had to learn through trial by fire, and, as such, left Commander Davis on the bridge to handle their departure. However, she thought it better to make that fire be in as controlled an environment as possible. She didn't know what Davis would face in this mission, or the many to come, but she doubted that even a diplomatic mission like this one would allow time for gradual acclimation. Perhaps especially a diplomatic mission like this one, because in her experience most foreign ambassador were very adept in detecting if the person talking to them felt less than a hundred percent confident.
It wasn't as though Nika was just sitting around and letting Davis do all the work. Due to the shorter-than-normal shore leave on Assailant, there hadn't been time for her to finish all the paperwork she had, a fact she was trying to rectify as soon as possible. With the addition of two crewmembers, and the promotions of Nack off the ship and Davis to first officer, there were quite a few forms to fill out, and they were taking longer than she had anticipated.
Nika didn't forget to send a note to the new chief medical officer, asking when Lieutenant Keran wanted to schedule her checkup. She'd thought about simply dropping by, but she didn't want to risk giving the younger woman a heart attack. All joking aside, Nika did want to get the medical checkup out of the way as soon as possible. If Starfleet thought she'd been too long without one she'd receive a firm talking-to, and a whole bunch more forms to fill out.
She acknowledged Davis' request to talk to her, saying she'd be on the bridge. She didn't get her work done as fast when she was surrounded by people, as her ability to block out background noise was a little lacking. But she didn't really want to lose sight of her ship for all the paperwork she'd been buried in.
=/\=Bridge, this is engineering, just to confirm that you have full warp speed at your disposal sir.=/\= she was informed.
=/\=Thank you, Lieutenant=/\=Nika sent back her response. It was reassuring to have a chief engineer again. It had been a little too long.

The new CEO was the first to be caught by Tiana's greeting. "Good to meet you too sir," he replied, "Or do you prefer ma'am?"
Tiana nearly laughed but then remembered how formal she had been as a new officer. "When we're being formal 'sir' is fine. Off the bridge I'm not generally a very formal person." As if the grin on her face wasn't enough evidence of this.. "In the lab I tend to be Tiana and you're welcome to use that too."
They had a short conversation and Tiana promised to send him information on Kavrin technology. She imagined most of the staff would want it at some point but she got to be the filter.
After a moment's hesitation by the turbolift the new CMO came over to join them. Tiana repeated her welcome and greeting. "B'reca," she replied, "It's an honour to meet you. Have you served aboard the Victory for long?"
Tiana nodded gently, it seemed the new CMO was a little nervous "Not that long, I joined the ship just before our last mission."
"I was wondering what information you have about the natives of the Kavris system," she continued. "If there's anything that could be of use to the medical department..."
"...I'll forward it to you." Tiana finished. She pointed to the science station where there was a rapidly scrolling stream of information. "The information will be downloaded shortly although what I've seen so far is a bit patchy."
The two new officers had gone back to their departments, Russell had left the bridge and the Captain had reappeared from her ready room. Tiana's data was nearly finished, now she just had to make sense of it.
The PADD on the station at her elbow buzzed. She picked it up and read the message: TO: ALL DEPARTMENT HEADS FROM: COMMANDER RUSSELL DAVIS, XO RE: DEPARTMENT REPORTS
COULD ALL DEPARTMENT HEADS PLEASE ENSURE THAT I HAVE A STATUS REPORT BY THE TIME WE ARRIVE AT KARVIS THREE. I AM SORRY I FORGOT TO ASK THIS IN THE BRIEFING BUT IT IS MY FIRST DAY. COMMANDER DAVIS
She quickly checked a few things but it did not take her long to write her report. TO:COMMANDER RUSSELL DAVIS, XO FROM: COMMANDER TIANA GALWYN CScO RE: STATUS REPORT
SCIENCE DEPARTMENT IS RUNNING WITHOUT PROBLEMS. DETAILED REPORT UPLOADED. COMMANDER GALWYN
PS: RUSS, I THINK YOU'LL LOOK GREAT IN RED. CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN.

When she got back to Sickbay, B'reca found a note from the Captain, asking when she wanted to schedule a checkup. She decided that it would be best to address her response to the general crew, as this was the first query she'd received on the matter. There had to be plenty of crew members out there who, like her, would avoid sickbay at all costs unless prompted.
To: ALL PERSONELL From: JUNIOR LIEUTENANT KERAN, CSO Re: YOUR MEDICAL CHECKUPS
COULD ALL CREW MEMBERS PLEASE BOOK AN APPOINTMENT WITH ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE FOR A COMPULSORY PHYSICAL. I KNOW SOME OF YOU MAY BE RELUCTANT, BUT DON'T WORRY - I JUST WANT TO FAMILIARISE MYSELF WITH YOUR PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND MEDICAL RECORDS. THANK YOU.
LT KERAN.
It was a little strange to find herself in this position after all the times she'd evaded sickbay herself on the Hepta mission. It would be interesting to see who responded quickly to her message, who took their time and who ignored it completely.
In the meantime, she would contact the Captain and schedule her first appointment. =^=Lt Keran to Captain Cir'Kem. I'm not busy now, if you would like to get your checkup out of the way.=^=

Blakus finished reading the CMO's message about med. exams and chucked it on his work-desk. It clattered and fell off the edge on to the floor, much to his amusement. It wasn't that he was afraid of medical check-ups or anything, it was just that he didn't feel like wasting his time. Granted, he should have an eye kept on him because of all that gone on during his training mission, but still. There was plenty of time. He got up and decided to have a look at the matter/anti-matter injector assembly. He found a slight instability in the magnetic constrictors that was causing a particle misalignment in the reaction chamber. A common malfunction... he thought. Blakus looked around and found the person he was searching for. "Lieutenant Holland, there's a problem with the constrictors. Could you fix it please."
Holland bristled slightly. "Yes, sir," he said. Blakus could see his annoyance. He was displaying typical body-language for somebody who had had control taken away from him, and was having difficulty acclimatising.
Blakus had realised that Holland had been the acting-CEO before he had been assigned here, and that it would take a bit of getting used to for the junior lieutenant. "Thankyou lieutenant..." Blakus said quietly. He would have to keep an eye on his immediate subordinate. He left engineering to have a look at the navigational deflector and the impulse engines. Blakus thought it was the kind of thing a new Chief Engineer might be expected to do, especially considering that he had a status report due to the XO. The new CEO thought he'd stop by his quarters on the way to deflector control. Entering his quarters he walked up to the replicator, "Coffee".
"Please specify," intoned the omnipresent computer.
"Plain, white, no sweetener," he said tiredly.
"Please specify temperature."
"Don't know, uh, just boiled." The cup materialised, "Man, that was a chore," Blakus muttered, he picked it up. He tasted the coffee, hot! He put the cup on the table and sat down on the small couch next to it, he sighed. "Computer, approximate time to Kavris system at present speed?" he asked of the female voice.
"2 days, 3 hours." The female voice responded. Lieutenant Blakus thought about that time period, plenty of time indeed. He found himself thinking about the USS Hepta mission, and the rumours surrounding the future of the ship. There was news in the air about the fleet's pondering of the Galaxy class ship's future. It was a shame, he thought he might like to go back to the academy one day, as an instructor. The CEO shoved those thoughts to the 'far-future musings' area of his head. There was a mission to be focussed on here. And Andae Blakus wanted to prove himself as a capable officer.
He finished his coffee which had cooled down sufficiently to allow for actual consumption, and resolutely walked from his quarters.

Tiana was shifting through all the down loaded data. As far as she had picked up the Kervins were a fairly standard humanoid race. She forwarded all the data to B'reca as the doctor had asked.
What was mostly occupying her was the data on kervinite and the planet Kervin 3. The mineral was powerful and versatile, it was easy to imagine an entire civilisation built upon the substance, not that she would have to imagine for too much longer. As for the planet... It was a giant with a very complicated atmosphere that was more or constantly awash with electrical, ionic and plasmonic storms. There were no surface scans of the planet and communications could be 'erratic'. Starship sensors simply were not designed to scan through that sort of interference. It would be an interesting challenge...
Tiana sent all the relevant data to all the relevant people and then set off to the main lab to have a chat with her staff about the possibilities of modifying the Victory's sensor array. She had gained two new assistants at Assailant and was looking forward to testing their skills out.
On the way to the the lab the PADD she was carrying buzzed, she checked hoping to find a message from Russ, she was slightly disappointed to find that it was from B'reca. She sighed and tagged her comm badge. If she had her check up then she was in a much better position to badger her staff to do the same.
=/\=Commander Galwyn to Doctor Keran. Can I make an appointment to see you in half an hour?=/\=
<B'reca>
After concluding her chat with the Doctor Tiana headed for the lab, gathered her staff; laid out the problem and let them start before taking herself off to sickbay. She had never minded sickbay/hospital but she did have an inborn tendency to ask questions which sometimes got on the doctor's nerves...

Deflector control aboard the USS Victory wasn't nearly as glamorous and interesting as it sounded, at least, it sounded glamorous and interesting to Lieutenant Blakus. His diagnostics on the system hadn't produced anything that could be called anomalous, he punched this fact into his padd. That made it easier, all he had to do was write out something along the lines of "All systems at optimal condition." Blakus found himself whistling as he signed himself out of the system and picked up his maintenance kit. He strolled out of the dark-ish room and down the dark-ish corridor, back into the light of the main corridors of the ship.
Next stop was Impulse. Blakus had not taken into account that the quickest route from Deflector Control to Impulse took him straight along the corridor outside sickbay. And so he started the traverse down said corridor, and sure enough, the CMO stepped out of sickbay right at that moment and turned his way! Uh-oh, Blakus thought as he dived into cover behind a conveniently placed maintenance junction. As he hoped that he hadn't made any noise he noticed the Jefferies' Tube entrance. He briefly thought of the unthinkable. Blakus really didn't want to have his med.exam. He'd spent a large part of the week before last week in Hepta's sickbay, he was sick of the sight of it. Oh well... he stepped out into the corridor and casually walked past Keran.
"Ah B'reca! Good to see you... how's sickbay?" Blakus said off-hand as he hurriedly paced past the CMO, don't remind her of sickbay you fool! he thought of himself.

</\>Sounds like an excellent plan</\> Nika replied to Lieutenant Keran's suggestion that she come down to sickbay. And, to her credit, Nika didn't let any of the other things she had to do get in the way of walking immediately down to sickbay. Because she was perfectly capable of worrying about the upcoming diplomatic talks while walking to sickbay. The last time the Federation had tried to help, two of their ships had been attacked, and neither side had ever admitted responsibility.
Nika entered sickbay, and a half smile materialized when she located the Keran. There was something that had been distinctly wrong about not having a CMO, and sickbay seemed already neater and better organized due to having someone to manage it.
“Lieutenant,” Nika greeted her. “Where do you want me?” It had been a little while since Nika had had a formal check-up. She had come down when the ship lacked a Chief Medical Officer, but the physical was less formal and thorough then, intended to be more of an update to her existing file.
As Nika went where she was directed, she glanced around sickbay again. “How have you been settling in?” she asked.

B'reca should have realised that sending her message to the entire crew at once was a bad idea. Several dozen crew members contacted her in the first five minutes, asking for appointments. Although she was glad that such a large number of the crew was prepared to cooperate, she wished that she'd just assigned appointments to everyone.
=/\=Commander Galwyn to Doctor Keran. Can I make an appointment to see you in half an hour?=/\=
Checking the PADD she'd taken to carrying with her everywhere, B'reca saw that the appointment slot half an hour from now was free.
"Certainly, Commander," she replied. "I'll see you then."

As she waited for the Captain to come down, B'reca began to tidy nervously. It wasn't like she hadn't given medical exams to humans before - there had been a few humans working at her father's lab and she had sometimes been given the task of performing radiation scans to make sure no one was being poisoned - but this was her first checkup as CMO on board an official Starfleet vessel.
Sitting in here wasn't helping her nerves, so she went outside to pace the corridor. Upon exiting sickbay, B'reca thought that she glimpsed movement of out the corner of her eye and turned to see Andae regarding her nervously.
"Ah B'reca! Good to see you... how's sickbay?"
"It's great," she replied, wondering why the Lt seemed so on edge. "Smells of disinfectant. How's Engineering?"

After her rather strange chat with her old shipmate, B'reca went back into Sickbay. She didn't have to wait long until the Captain turned up.
“Where do you want me?” Captain Cir'Kem asked. Her disposition seemed friendly and did a lot to put B'reca at ease.
"Over here should be fine," she replied, gesturing to the nearest Biobed. She checked the Captain's reflexes and shined a light in her eyes, then listened to her heartbeat for a few seconds. As she was setting up the machine to check blood pressure, the Captain asked her how she'd been settling in.
"Commander Galwyn has been very friendly," she replied, "And your crew was admirably fast in responding to my message. Perhaps a little too fast." She made a note of the Captain's blood pressure, noticing that it was a little high.
"I'm settling well into sickbay after doing a little reorganising," she continued. "Overall, I like it very much here. Thank you for asking."
After concluding the examination, she told the Captain that her blood pressure was above the average and recommended that she see the counsellor for advice on relaxation techniques.
"I'd also like you to keep a record of your diet and exercise for the next week," she added. "I don't expect to find anything wrong with the way you're eating or exercising, but I'd like to rule them out as causes of stress."

Scene: S-B ASSILENT The Office of the Base Personal Officer,
"Come." Said a voice from within. Richards entered.
"Ensign Liam Richards, reporting for assignment, sir."
"Let's have your orders, Ensign," said Francis with a hand outstretched. Taking the padd, the wizened Commodore made a few affirmative grunts before stashing the padd away in a desk drawer. Looking into the newly graduated Ensign's eyes, he said, "Looks like you're qualified for a number of billets, Ensign."
"My academy training was very thorough, sir."
"Glad to know the good folks at the Academy and ALB are still making it tough for our recruits," Stout joked. "Well, let's see what I have for you." Roughly, the Commodore flicked on his desktop viewer and scanned the screen. A few seconds later, he turned off the device and sorted through a stack of padds on the corner of his desk.
"Here you are, Ensign," said Francis as he pushed the padd across his desk. "Take a second to look it over."
Tremulously, Ensign Richards glanced down at the screen.
>>>>OFFICIAL TRANSFER ORDERS>>>> TO: ENS Liam A. Richards FROM: CDOR Francis J Anderson CC: Captain Nikaila Cir’kem , CO, USS VICTORY
Ensign Richards, you are hereby ordered to report with all due speed to the USS VICTORY and its CO, Captain Nikaila Cir’kem ; once you have check in with her you are to report to Cmdr James T Matthew the ship chief of Operations there upon to take up the position of Junior Operations Officer in Training on board the USS VICTORY . Considering that you are already on the Star base, the trip should be very short indeed. Good luck and Godspeed.
-CDOR Francis j Anderson >>>>END OF ORDERS>>>
Francis coughed, said, "Well, there you are, Mr. Richards. Any questions?"
Liam shook his head, said, "Thank you, Commodore."
"Good luck to you, Ensign."

"It's great," she replied, wondering why the Lt seemed so on edge. "Smells of disinfectant. How's Engineering?" B'reca replied and asked a question.
"Oh, fine, fine. No problems." Blakus answered and waved bye at Keran as he went around the corner at the end of the corridor. The CEO didn't know how but somehow he had gotten away without mention of a med. exam. It was here that he stopped his ridiculous train of thought. He realised that he was being far to presumptuous towards B'reca, which wasn't fair. It was just an ordinary passing in the corridor, Blakus tried to convince himself. Well, off to Impulse.
Later Lt. Blakus was writing up his status report to the XO in his quarters. The ship was running surprisingly smoothly, with very little glitches, the matter/anti-matter misalignment probably being the worst glitch of the lot. Andae laughed to himself, Makes things easier for me! he thought. He added the last details to his report, and submitted the finished article to the XO. Saving a copy of the report into his personal file, he wiped the padd's screen ready for future use. Andae stood up and yawned. He had an idea and tapped his comm badge. "Blakus to any off-duty senior staff, would anyone like to join me in the mess hall for a coffee?"
<Tag: Senior Staff>
The channel closed and Blakus found that he was still yawning. It had been an extremely busy week for the young officer. After barely surviving the Academy training mission he had immediately been plunged into a new mission on his first assignment. Not that he didn't enjoy the challenge. He was relishing getting stuck into the nit and grit of this one.
Andae collapsed on his couch and wondered whether any of the off-duty senior staff would take him up on his offer.

"Certainly, Commander," B'reca replied. "I'll see you then."
Tiana confirmed the appointment time and then closed the comm link. She looked round at her staff most of whom seemed to be listening to her conversation rather than doing what they should have been doing. Tiana smiled the slightly feral smile that usually made people weary. "Now that I've set you a good example I expect you all to have made appointments for your physicals before we get to the Karvin system." She heard the groans and continued. "I have a large database of micro-gravitic anomalies that need analysing and classifying and the honour will go to anyone who doesn't have an appointment by the time we arrive or skips their appointment." She heard further groans and the odd laugh. They'd do what she asked and then she'd end up analysing the database.
A short time later Tiana was on the way to sickbay, actually she was on the long way to sickbay as she was thinking. Most of her mind was occupied by her new assistants Lieutenant Commander Lewis Shamford and Lieutenant Elbus Tana, both seemed competent and had set about the given problem with a zeal that Tiana approved of.
The rest of her thoughts were occupied with plans for a celebratory dinner for Russell. She walked into sickbay and noticed that the Doctor was busy, she was going to try to get B'reca's attention but instead found her eyes drawn to a flickering display of what seemed to be protein sequences.

Nika just nodded in acceptance of the remark about her blood pressure. She'd do what the doctor recommended, at least as much as she could. After all, it would be a waste of both of their time for Nika to ignore her.
“Unfortunately, with Davis' promotion to first officer we no longer have a counselor for the moment.” Nika shrugged, though the image of Davis giving techniques for relaxation was slightly amusing, given his own current high-stress situation. “However, if we haven't had one assigned by the time we return to Assailant after this mission, I promise to see a counselor there.”
Nika had a feeling she was going to regret that promise, but she rather looked forward to keeping it, as it meant the diplomatic experience they were embarking on now would be over. “And you'll get that log of my eating and exercising in a week. Thank you very much for your time. Did you have any other questions or tests to run on me?” Nika asked.
The answer was no, so Nika removed herself from sickbay, after adding that if Lieutenant Keran had any problems or questions she shouldn't hesitate to contact Nika. She returned to the bridge to be sure that everything was under control and pick up a few PADDs from her office. She was sure that her amount of exercise wasn't going to be a problem, even if she disregarded the actual exercise she did, she seemed to spend half her time just trekking from one end of the Victory to the other.
To prove the point, a message came through from from Lieutenant Blakus, asking for any available off-duty crew members to join him in the mess hall for a coffee. Nika almost dismissed the message without any further thought, it didn't apply to her, she wasn't off-duty. But she could go off-duty now if that was what she wanted, or at least as off-duty as she ever got.
Nika thought about the idea more, and decided that she should relax a little. I wasn't like there was anything urgent she had to do, and if something cropped up she could always go back up to the bridge. =/\=Do you mind if I join you?=/\= Nika asked Blakus, aware however that the presence of a Captain could sometime unintentionally make other people's downtime less relaxing.
