"What was the status of the station when you left?" The Captain asked. Wong raised an eyebrow. "Would they be able to evacuate completely in the next 12 hours?"
Tiberian snorted.
"If you'll forgive a moment of blatant honesty, I'd be worried about them evacuating in 12 months" He shook his head and thought "But considering that they do have some semblance of a command structure, and craft of their own, with our help it's more than do-able. My recommendation is to get engines at any speed, communications and transporters online as a priority. That way we can at least evacuate the station and start getting out of here. We'll need a lot of additional support ships if we're going to do anything about the planets though"
His attention was suddenly diverted by a woman standing at one of the back science consoles.
"I take it you're Colonel Wong, pleased to meet you. I'm Tiana Galwyn, CScO" She paused for about half a second and then said "sub-atomic singularities! Things are a touch chaotic at the moment, has anyone fiilled you in yet?"
"Yes I am Colonel Wong, I'm pleased to meet you too. No, I'm not a sub-atomic singularity, and no I haven't been filled in yet. In that order" He answered with a smile "So can you fill me in"
<TAG Commander Galwyn>
Tiberian nodded as he listened to the explanation and the theory which she had come up with.
"To tell you the truth, I scored lowest in my academy class in quantum theory, but if you think it's right..." he trailed off, implying his support. A thought then struck him.
"Captain" he called out "I'll try and rig the station shuttle to return on auto pilot, and I'll pre-record a message to tell them to begin evacuation procedures. Commander Galwyn, can we rig a class III probe for sub-atmospheric flight?"
<TAG Commander Galwyn>
"With your permission Captain, I'd like to send a probe down into Valnot's atmosphere. That way we could transmit a message to our away team to commandeer a shuttle and get back here. That way we could at least have all the crew in one place, barring Commander Sharp of course"
<TAG Captain Cir'Kem>
Tiberian left the bridge and headed for the shuttlebay in which the station's shuttle had landed. The crew had long since returned to their duty stations, and this left Tiberian with the role of trying to get an autopilot system online. After a few minutes of tinkering, and a mild burn later, he decided he needed help.
"Wong to Lieutenant Blakus. Chief, could you spare yourself or one of your people for five minutes. It's urgent, and i'm in shuttlebay one"

Tiana nodded, pleased for the opportunity to voice her best theory aloud to see if it actually made any sense. "Karvis's star, which until a few minutes ago was reading as a perfectly average O type. Has suddenly destabalised. It's not due to do that for another few million years. My current theory is that a sub-atomic singularity has ended up in the core of the star and is destabilising it. I'm very grateful you aren't a singularity by the way, we're quite busy anyway. The Victory was hit by an EM pulse wave and a coronal ejection that has fried a lot of systems." She guestured round the bridge. "We have 15-20 hours before the star goes into first stage collapse and when that happens... Well, we won't want to be here and neither will the people on Valnot, Pell or the station."
"To tell you the truth, I scored lowest in my academy class in quantum theory, but if you think it's right..." he trailed off.
"Captain" he called out "I'll try and rig the station shuttle to return on auto pilot, and I'll pre-record a message to tell them to begin evacuation procedures. Commander Galwyn, can we rig a class III probe for sub-atmospheric flight?"
Tiana paused in thought for a second. "We can retune the deflectors to make it atmosphere capable but it'll be a lot slower than usual as a result." Tiberian seemed quite excited at the news.
"With your permission Captain, I'd like to send a probe down into Valnot's atmosphere. That way we could transmit a message to our away team to commandeer a shuttle and get back here. That way we could at least have all the crew in one place, barring Commander Sharp of course"
A thought struck Tiana, "Has Doctor Keran returned from Valnot yet?" She said to the bridge at large. There were a couple of head shakes but no firm response. "We ought to get in touch with her to inform her of the situation."

"Bligh, could you pass up that inducer?"
Lieutenant Blakus was in a vertical access tube adjacent to the port impulse engine, and he was worn out, tired, and getting more and more depressed at the situation. He could draw some solace from the fact that only the driver coil and outer fusion reactor were damaged, but they were proving difficult to get working again. He ran the device Bligh had passed him over the exposed system beyond the panel he had removed, it was the primary interface for the impulse fusion reactors themselves.
"Wong to Lieutenant Blakus. Chief, could you spare yourself or one of your people for five minutes. It's urgent, and i'm in shuttlebay one."
Blakus cursed silently, not directed at anyone, only at himself. He needed to get this done. Impulse, was fixable. Just. He asked Wong to explain what he wanted and then scrambled down the ladder out of the narrow tunnel, into the cramped maintenance corridor. "I'm on my way Colonel." Blakus replied through his commbadge. Ensign Bligh was looking at him for instructions, "Ensign, continue with the job. Priority is the fusion reactor, at least then we'll have thruster capability. Keep me advised."
"Yes sir." Bligh replied, nodding.
Blakus strode into the shuttlebay. "Sir," he greeted the marine, who turned towards him upon his entering the bay. He listened while Wong explained in more detail what he planned to do. The plan sounded good to Blakus, and he was mildly and pleasantly surprised that this rated so high on the SMO's list of priorities.
"What's the Captain's plan on evacuation of the two moons?"
"Ok. Well let's get on with this." Blakus and the Colonel opened the rear hatchway of the boxy shuttle and stepped inside. They approached the pilot controls at the front. "Right, this thing seems to have an automatic recall directive. Upon activation, the shuttle should power up and return to the station. Once it arrives your emergency beacon can notify them of the situation." Blakus pondered over his last sentence, it had hardly been necessary. "The biggest problem, is going to be getting the shuttlebay doors open. They will almost certainly be inoperable after what has happened."
Despite Blakus' will to help the people of the Kavris system, he found his thoughts drifting back to engineering and how he desperately needed to get back in there.

As soon as she'd heard from Blakus that warp coils were non-functional Nika asked Galwyn: “How large is the blast radius going to be?” She hated having to distract the Science officer, but she needed to know whether or not the ship could even move out of the way if they got impulse working again. If not, of course, then they'd simply have to stop the explosion.
Nika wished for a moment that she could help, she had after all been initially assigned to the Victory as Chief Science Officer, but even if she felt that she wasn't getting anything done, she was needed in her role as Commanding Officer. Besides, she probably wouldn't be that much help to Galwyn anyway.
“With your permission Captain, I'd like to send a probe down into Valnot's atmosphere. That way we could transmit a message to our away team to commandeer a shuttle and get back here.”
Nika nodded. “That sounds like a very good idea. Thank you,” she added.
Commander Galwyn suggested getting in contact with the CMO. “I've been trying to contact her, unsuccessfully, but Colonel Wong is trying another approach. Until we get our full communications up and working though, we're rather limited in our options.” Nika didn't intend the comment as a complaint or an excuse, because Galwyn had asked Nika assumed the CScO was concerned about the situation, and Nika was trying to keep people as informed as she could.
Nika resisted the urge to use her commbadge to get into contact with Engineering. She knew that if they had repaired anything or run into any major difficulties she would have been informed. But it was hard, because right now what she really wanted to do, what she really needed to do was get her ship out of harm's way, contact the government of the people who were being put into danger, and get all her people back on the ship. Nika sighed softly, and sat down in the CO chair to cut off prematurely the very notion of pacing.
Even if the communications were working perfectly, Nika knew it wouldn't be as easy as asking everyone nicely to cooperate in a complete evacuation. Even facing destruction, some people were too proud to offer a hand to help one of their enemies. Which meant that a simple probe holding a message wouldn't be enough to convince the Valnot that, since they had more ships than they would need, they should aid the Pelli.
Rather than pacing, Nika funneled some of her nervous energy into making notes of suggestions on how to successfully carry out the evacuation on the PADD she pulled out. The three peoples had been about to sign a peace treaty, it shouldn't be that hard to convince them that peace was in fact the way to approach the problem. Unfortunately, the explosions and the kidnapping of Sharp indicated that someone hadn't been willing to work well to begin with.

Tiberian went to work in the back of the shuttle, rigging a version of an emergency transponder beacon, which he had programmed with a message ordering them to evacuate the station and head for the hills, so to speak. He finished strapping in the beacon and activated it's transmitter array in time to hear Blakus' comment about the shuttlebay doors.
"I'll worry about that Lieutenant, just make sure the bird can fly"
He stepped out of the shuttle and looked at the bay doors for a moment. He scratched his chin absent-mindedly as he looked through the empty stretch of shuttlebay, until a sudden smile came onto his face. He stuck his head back around the shuttle hatch.
"Tell me Lieutenant, how attached are you to these doors?"
<TAG Blakus>
From the sly grin on the marine's face, Tiberian guessed that the engineer wouldn't like what he was about to say, but he pressed ahead anyway.
"When Plan A fails, namely the door mechanism, we must resort to plan B, namely B for Barricade"
<TAG Blakus>
"All we have to do is activate the atmospheric containment field, charge the structural integrity field of the shuttle to maximum and ram it through the suttlebay doors. It could work"
<TAG Blakus>
"Anyway, the transponder's ready, so get this bird airborne however you see fit, but i need it done within the hour chief. I'll be in the torpedo control room if you need me"
He wlaked out of the suhttlebay and tapped his commbadge.
=/\=Wong to Commander Galwyn, could you please meet me in the forward torpedo control room. We need to configure that probe we were talking about=/\=
~In the torpedo control room~
Tiberian crouched over a mark III probe in the cramped and darkly lit room, examining the pressure manifolds. He turned around to see Commander Galwyn enter the room, who he beckoned over with one hand.
"Alright Commander, you said you needed to make some deflector modifications to the torpedo in order to make it capable of sub-atmospheric flight. Work your magic"
<TAG Galwyn>
Tiberian watched as the Commander worked, his meagre experience relegating him to the useful role of handing her tools as and when she needed them. After a short while, the probe was complete, and Tiberian loaded it manually into the launcher, closing the hatch, and then leading Tiana to the bridge. He took his place at the tactical console.
"Firing modified probe in three, two, one, probe launched"
On the view screen the torpedo soared out of the starship and down towards Valnot.
"I've programmed the probe to fly in a clover leaf pattern over the last known location of the away team. It will remain transmitting in the stratosphere until the away team returns. Unfortunately, we won't be able to use it for direc contact until our own transmitter array is at least slightly repaired"

Inside the cell Sharp and the doctor are being kept. Sharp hears alot of commotion and it doesn't sound good at all. A few minutes later one of their captors enters the cell with weapon drawn and aims it at the doctor. Sharp lunges at the guard and knocks him against the wall which knocks him out. Sharp then grabs the guards weapon and orders the doctor and her aid to follow. As they enter the corridor everyone seems to be ignoring them and running around like there is no tomorrow.
Sharp finds a computer terminal and heads towards it. Sharp searches for where they keep the shuttles at and finds were they are at. They head to the nearest one. Sharp starts to feel pain in his side looks down and knotices that he is bleeding. <tagKeran >
"im fine doctor lets get moving."
They get to the shuttle and take off and head to the victory. Sharp push's the engines farther than they are used to and by the time they get close to thge victory the engines are about overload.

Tiana was still pacing on the bridge and muttering to herself. Had she been alone she would have put on some Klingon Opera but that really wouldn't help here, she doubted whether any of the rest of the bridge crew shared her musical tastes. She smiled slightly at the thought and then became serious as she heard the Captain's question. "How large is the blast radius going to be?" Everyone else on the bridge seemed strangely interested in the answer. Tiana sighed slightly and rechecked her figures. "My current estimates show that the initial collapse wave will be severely destructive to a radius of about 1.4 billion kilometers. Out to around Saturn if we were in the Sol system" she added seeing that she was getting slightly blank looks she was getting from the non science staff. This announcement didn't help the mood on the bridge as they were well within that radius. Tiana started pacing again, she was worried about B'reca as no one seemed to know where she was. She pushed thought out of her mind, she was sure there was some way of slowing this nova down or temporarily stabilising the star or something. She would not accept that there might be nothing she could do. =/\=Wong to Commander Galwyn, could you please meet me in the forward torpedo control room. We need to configure that probe we were talking about=/\==/\=On my way=/\= she responded. It did not take her too long to get down the the control room where she found the Colonel waiting for her. "Alright Commander, you said you needed to make some deflector modifications to the torpedo in order to make it capable of sub-atmospheric flight. Work your magic" Tiana smiled appreciating the comment. She stretched her hands dramatically and set to work. Colonel Wong was very helpful handing her necessary tools. She enjoyed doing little jobs like this. It wasn't long before she was done. Tiberian loaded the probe and then the two of them returned to the bridge. He went to Tactical and she ressumed pacing near the science station. The probe launched safely and took up a search pattern. "Unfortunately, we won't be able to use it for direct contact until our own transmitter array is at least slightly repaired" His words permeated the fog of ideas and random thoughts surrounding Tiana's mind and reminded her of something. "I pulled a message out of what's left of the comms array. It's addressed to you and sent from the Olympia. Just thought you'd like to know." Tag: Colonel Wong OOC: See your welcome thread for the message, I thought you should get it rather than have it lost with the Victory's comms .

"I'll worry about that Lieutenant, just make sure the bird can fly"
Lieutenant Blakus was hunched over the shuttle's flight controls making the final preparations for the shuttle's departure and recall to the station.
"Tell me Lieutenant," Wong said suddenly, "How attached are you to these doors?" Blakus turned and fixed Wong with a stare, he knew exactly what the marine was thinking.
"Not very Colonel, why do you ask?" he inquired quietly in return.
A devillish smile spread across the SMO's face, "When Plan A fails, namely the door mechanism," he said, "We must resort to plan B, namely B for Barricade. All we have to do is activate the atmospheric containment field, charge the structural integrity field of the shuttle to maximum and ram it through the suttlebay doors. It could work"
Blakus did think the idea was reckless, and the damage it would cause would be extremely unpredictable. But the CEO was stuck in the unfortunate position of having no other plan. He eyed Wong with a certain cold look of incredulity which the Colonel looked to be quite amused at, but inside, Blakus quite liked the idea, "Yes, it could work," he said, "Of course the ramming could cause unknown levels of structural damage beyond merely breaking the doors apart."
"Anyway, the transponder's ready," Wong concluded, "So get this bird airborne however you see fit, but i need it done within the hour chief. I'll be in the torpedo control room if you need me."
Blakus sighed inwardly as Wong departed. He briefly thought about assigning the task to a couple of his engineers, but dismissed it. He couldn't trust anyone else to do this difficult job but himself. He knew it was one of his biggest flaws, but it was also a strength.
An hour later Blakus was watching as the shuttle crashed head-on through the shuttlebay door and out into space. He'd already taken the precaution of informing the Captain about his and Wong's plan, she had accepted, reluctantly. Let's hope it pays off.. he thought. He tapped his commbadge, =/\=Wong, this is Blakus. The shuttle is on its way, it appears to have worked. Structural damage is minimal, but we now have no shuttlebay door.=/\=
"Forcefields in place sir, shuttlebay secure," said the engineer Blakus had got to help him in the job. He nodded in return and left, signalling for the engineer to follow him out of the shuttlebay. Now all we've got to do his wait, and hope the Kavrisians get the message... he thought.
Upon returning to engineering, which was hardly in any better a state since when he'd been there before, the CEO found out from Ensign Bligh that the impulse drive had been fixed, sort of. "Half impulse, is that the best we can do?" Blakus asked him. They were standing around the warp core.
"Yes sir," Bligh told him. Blakus could see that the Ensign was tired out and didn't blame him. He'd just been up to his shoulders in the impulse drive for the last hour and a half. Lieutenant Holland came down from the upper level of engineering and joined them. "Main comm transceiver is still out of commission," Bligh said, "We may need to take a walk for that."
Blakus knew what he meant by that and didn't like it. He hated zero-g. Ever since he broke his shoulder in the previous year zero-g walking had had a psychological effect on him. Bligh continued, "The transceiver's crippled components that are essential for its working are external. We can replace them."
"I'll go," Holland said. Blakus pondered as the two officers looked at him, he felt guilty for not taking the responsibility upon himself, but if Holland was so willing...
"Do it." Holland nodded. He left to prepare a small team for a zero-gravity walk, on the exterior of the USS Victory's hull. =/\=Bridge, this is Blakus. You have half impulse power. Sorry but that's the best we can do for the moment, if they are pushed anymore they may overload and blow out the entire system. Also Lieutenant Holland and a team of two are preparing for a zero-g walk to replace the comm transceiver, with your permission..=/\=

In Andae Blakus' quarters, his message light started to softly blink on and off in the standard red creating a glow in the darkened room. It could be a long while before the newly promoted Lt Commander got a chance to open it and the light would continue to blink, patiently waiting until then.

"Transfer it to my quarters please Commander" Tiberian said, knowing only one person on the Olympia who would have taken the time to contact him. He suddenly noticed a a blip on the tactical readout that was moving towards them at great speed. He performed a scan and discovered it to be a shuttle that had originated from Valnot.
"Captain, i've got a Valnot shuttle coming up on us. It looks like their engines are being pushed right up to breaching point" Tiberian translated the readout into words "They have a large power signature, but I can't determine whether or not it's their increased engine output, or some sort of bomb"
<TAG Captain Cir'Kem>
The Valnot shuttle was still on a direct course for the Victory, and without shields, they were completely vulnerable if this was a suicide run. Tiberian thought on his feet, but no viable alternatives came to mind. Without communications, there was no hope of contacting the shuttle to ascertain their mission, and without shields they couldn't bunk down for the storm. The only alternative was to try and fire phasers to disable the enemy craft, but this had the inbuilt risk of detonating whatever the large power source of the shuttle was. Nor, with the current state of their engines, could they outrun the enemy vessel.
=/\=Wong to Lieutenant Blakus. We need either comms, shields or warp power as a matter of possible life or death. Please tell me you can give me one of the three in about five minutes=/\=
<TAG Blakus>
Tiberian scratched his artificial eye absentmindedly as he thought. The shuttle was less than five minutes away at its current speed, and the ship hung relatively limply in space. If Blakus couldn't restore something in time...
"I have an idea" He said suddenly, surprising even himself, as his idea currently resembled a mass of indistict mush "If I can take a shuttle, I might be able to board the Valnot craft and find out what's going on. If I fail, well you'd better have phasers on standby"
He left the bridge and went back to the shuttlebay he had abandoned only a few minutes before. It looked strangely different without the shuttlebay doors, and even stranger given that the floor was littered with the debris of the interior shuttlebay that had been smashed. He boarded one of the Victory's smaller shuttles and departed at full impulse, penetrating the atmospheric containment field in nanoseconds. He sped away from the Victory, arming the phasers as he went. As with the Victory, the enormous EM pulse had fried the shuttles shields and communications, and so he could only pray that if the shuttle was a hostile, that they were lightly armed. As he came up on the shuttle, he was shocked to see the craft slow down to an almost halt. He edged the shuttlecraft closer to the Valnot craft, and could have sworn he saw two Starfleet officers through the viewing panel.
"That's never...Sharp?" Tiberian asked as he stared from the one shuttle to the other.
All of a sudden, the shuttle gave a sharp jolt, and Tiberian was flung forward, hitting his head on the panel in front of him. He sat bolt upright almost immediately, spitting the blood out of his mouth, and smacking the console with his right palm, not even looking at what commands he had executed. The shuttle lurched to the right and span as the red mist cleared and he could see what was going on. Two military style shuttles were firing on Sharp's shuttle, flying about in a circular pattern which cut off his means of escape. Tiberian brought the shuttle about, facing the tow new arrivals.
"Computer, charge phaser banks to maximum"
"Unable to comply, phaser couplings have been damaged. Phasers are offline"
"Dammit. Open a hailing frequency to the Victory"
"Unable to comply, communications are offline due to transceiver damage"
This really took the biscuit. He was isolated, defenceless, and was unsure how much more of a pounding the other shuttle could take. He activated the engine sequence in front of him, setting a ramming course with one of the shuttles. He pressed the engage key.

=/\=Wong to Lieutenant Blakus. We need either comms, shields or warp power as a matter of possible life or death. Please tell me you can give me one of the three in about five minutes=/\=
Blakus looked up from his console in engineering and almost laughed at what Wong had said over the commbadge. "Colonel, I'm afraid to say that that is impossible. But comms should be up within half-an-hour, sir. Blakus out." But Wong had already cut the channel, something big was going on up there... "Lieutenant Mattheson?" Blakus called out for the engineer, "What's the estimate on warp drive?"
"Indefinite sir."
"Are we sure the warp coils are unusable?"
"Yes sir." Damn... Blakus thought in despair. There was only one thing for it. If they wanted to get out of the system in time they would need to break maximum impulse, and push the impulse engines up to an appreciable factor of the speed of light. It was possible, and had been done in the past with risk. But in the present condition that the Victory was in, such a maneuver was near-suicidal. Unless he could figure out a way to shunt the almost certain overload of energy to somewhere else... Something more resistant, and in better condition.
It wasn't long before Blakus and his team got the message that Wong had left in a shuttle to see about an approaching craft. And that he had been subsequently fired upon by shuttles coming from the planet. Aware that Wong wouldn't be able to communicate with them Blakus checked in on Holland's progress on the outer hull. "Ten minutes, sir" Holland replied duly.
"Copy that Lieutenant," Blakus acknowledged, "Keep me informed."
15 minutes later...
Blakus let out a sigh of relief upon hearing that the communication transceiver was repaired, and he had already notified the Captain and the XO.
<TAG Cir'Kem/Davis>
But there were now more pressing issues on the CEO's mind. The main one being the deflector dish, with shields and long-range sensors being the secondary concerns. Most of which were, unfortunately, completely fried and unusable. His task now was not so much to fix them, but rather to find uses in other systems which would emulate their role. "Deflector dish needs to be the priority," he said to his team as they marched through the ship, "If the ship tries to go too fast with no deflector, then..." Blakus didn't need to finish the sentence. All of his team knew the consequences of travelling at relativistic speeds with no navigational deflector.
They kept walking, all through the corridors of the ship people were running to and fro, trying to get the ship in some sort of working order. Blakus resisted the temptation to go to the bridge to find out exactly what was going on. Suddenly he was overwhelmed by a feeling of duty, and he felt a need to work, hands-on, with his engineers. It felt fulfilling for the young engineer to be in that position. Full of purpose, he entered deflector control and was not fazed by the utter wreck he saw before him.

“My current estimates show that the initial collapse wave will be severely destructive to a radius of about 1.4 billion kilometers. Out to around Saturn if we were in the Sol system”
Nika nodded. The relative distance using the Earth solar system didn't really enlighten her, but then, she had a science background so it didn't need to. One hour and twenty-three light minutes, but the ship was already a good ten light-minutes from the sun. The ship could move ¼ of lightspeed at full impulse; they should be able to make it out of the radius without difficulty. Whether or not that applied to the other people in the system, though...
=/\=Understood,=/\= said Nika. She didn't want to start moving the ship away yet, because it might well be needed to take evacuees on, but the Victory couldn't take on evacuees so long as it still lacked communications systems and transporters.
Commander Galwyn was off the bridge when a shuttle was detected approaching the Victory and since long-range communications were still off-line Nika couldn't communicate with the shuttle to see what they wanted. “They have a large power signature, but I can't determine whether or not it's their increased engine output, or some sort of bomb.”
Nika grimaced, she only had two options: to fire or to hope that the intentions were good, which, given her day, didn't seem like it was very likely. Then Tiberian was off and running, taking a shuttle with no working communications, though the Victory could not have talked to the shuttle anyway. As Tiberian's shuttle came into contact with the other's, the sensors picked up two more shuttles, firing on the first shuttle, and then on Wong's shuttle as well.
“Fire on the attacking shuttles to disable their weapons,” Nika ordered, just as the sensors detected Wong's undeniably straight path towards another of the shuttles. Why Tiberian couldn't just stay back, or possibly distract the other shuttle, Nika didn't quite understand. The Victory was pretty good back-up. But maybe that was what he was trying to do; few shuttles were willing to just sit still and be rammed, and the one Tiberian was heading towards was no exception.
So now the trick was to get a clear shot at that shuttle so they could both disable it and knock it out of Tiberian's flight path. Nika watched tensely as the Tactical Officer managed to do just that, but ended up destroying the second attacking shuttle. And, of course, the first attacking shuttle wasn't really faring that much better. Their weapons had been taken completely offline in the attack, and the engines were also damaged. And because of their lack of transporters, Nika could not take the people off the shuttle. She supposed their own people might come to rescue the stranded shuttle, or Nika would figure something out.
For now, though, she hoped that whoever Tiberian had set about rescuing was nonhostile, and that they would be able to return to the Victory.
When she learned shortly afterwards that the long-range communications had been repaired, Nika told Davis to handle the bridge and walked into her office, ready to start up a lengthy dialog with various heads-of-states, to convince them to evacuate the system.

The shuttle Tiberian had aimed at swerved wildly out of the way, as the deranged marine chased him in his own shuttle. The two ships dodged and weaved, whilst the Victory engaged the second attacking shuttle. Inside the Starfleet shuttle cockpit, Tiberian attempted to keep his eyes on the shuttle as it weaved, despite the fact that the shuttle was becoming increasingly filled with smoke. Tiberian coughed and rubbed his streaming eyes.
"Computer, can you shut off that damn burning conduit"
"Unable to comply, fire suppression system has been disabled"
"Fan-bloody-tastic" Tiberian muttered through clenched teeth, banking the shuttle to starboard "I have a good idea, why don't I just sit here and suffocate"
His moaning was interrupted by the explosion of the shuttle he was pursuing, causing him to slam the shuttle to an all stop, narrowly avoiding the explosion radius. He came about meekly and laid in a course for Sharp's shuttle, placing himself in front of it.
"Computer, are the external lights functioning?"
"Affirmative"
"Programme them with a morse code sequence. Message to read, return to Victory at will. Enable"
"Sequence displayed" the computer responded, moments before Sharp's shuttle moved off.
Tiberian moved towards te seconded attacking shuttle which had been disabled. Activating the tractor beam, he carried on back to the Victory himself, albeit at a slightly decreased pace. He pondered at this point what had happened to the marines assigned to protect the doctor on Valnot. The only inhabitants of the shuttle had been Sharp and Keran, leaving the twenty man marine team and the Assistant CTSO unaccounted for. He tapped the console absent mindedly as he thought about this, worried as to what might have happened. He barely noticed the fact that he had come up on the Victory, and was still in his daydream until the proximity warning alarm had sounded. Regaining control of the shuttle from the autopilot, he manouvered the craft back into the Victory shuttlebay, setting the enemy shuttle down beside him before he disengaged the tractor beam and landing his own shuttle. He opened the emergency cabinet on the floor of the rear end of the shuttle, and removed an old style phaser rifle. He primed the weapon and opened the shuttle door. He stepped out followed by a billowing cloud of smoke that emanated from the burning conduit. He coughed and smiled at the assembled crowd of engineers, marines and security personnel.
"Nothing like the smell of phaser fire in the morning" he boldly announced as he stepped down from the shuttle door, allowing a small group of worried looking fire suppression personnel and engineers to rush inside. He gestured to Jose and some of the other marines who came forward, phasers drawn.
"Form a perimeter around the enemy shuttle" he shouted, before tapping his commbadge.
=/\=Wong to Captain Cir'Kem. I've brought the disabled shuttle back to the Victory, I thought you might like to be present when we interrogate the pilots=/\=
<TAG Captain Cir'Kem>
Tiberian walked away from the shuttle, now surrounded by a ring of marines, and over to Commander Sharp and Doctor Keran, both of whom were being checked over by the medical staff. Katie was amongst them, and she and Tiberian exchanged smiles. Crouching besides Sharp, he asked.
"Commander, when you were on Valnot did you see what happened to the marine team I sent down with Doctor Keran? The Assistant CTSO, Lieutenant Malloy was with them, and we haven't been able to locate anyone who went off ship due to the EM pulse"

Nika was momentarily torn between manning the communication system and convincing everyone to start the evacuation or talking to the pilots, but it didn't take her long to decide. She needed to find out who had sabotaged the talks and kidnapped her officers, and whether those same people were also responsible for the required evacuation now. =/\=Yes, I'll be right down.=/\=
“Commander Davis, you have the bridge. Get in contact with the governments and convince them that an immediate evacuation is necessary. Maybe start with Valnot?” They had a larger planet, and more ships to mobilize. In fact, their cooperation would be necessary to insure that everyone got out of the system in time, so Nika thought showing the Valnot the courtesy of contacting them first might not be amiss.
<Tag Commander Davis>
Nika met Wong outside the brig, where the pilots had been transferred to. She glanced over the pilots, then nodded to Wong that he should ask the questions. She felt she could pay more attention to the answers and reactions if that was her only role.

Tiana transfered the SMO's message to his quarters as requested and then got back to pacing. Then the shuttle showed up on sensors, unfortunately nothing much could be determined about the shuttle, save that it was running on very high power.
Colonel Wong headed off to get another shuttle. Then two more shuttles appeared and the shooting started. Tiana stopped noticing things of the tactical display around then. She had her mind full of a possible but needless to say complicated plan to at least test to see if there was a signularity there. She and Liam Palmer were in a detailed debate one one side of the bridge when word came back that the Colonel had made it back safely along with Doctor Keran and Commander Sharp. The Captain left the bridge to deal with the pilots of the other shuttle.
The left Russell in charge. He was busy trying to raise someone in the Valnot government but seemed to be having trouble. Tiana walked to his side and handed him a PADD, the screen displayed five bullet points.
"It's the current situation in words of two syllables or less; suitable for the understanding of even the most dense military politician." She smiled. "I thought It might be useful."

Russell walked back onto the bridge, looking around to see what was happening. Most staff were moving around quickly from station to station exchanging data and ideas. He was surprised to find that Tiana was not here, then he thought she must be in a science lab trying to work on the star issue. Making his way down to the Captain and noted her speaking though the comms. “Commander Davis, you have the bridge. Get in contract with the government and convince them that an immediate evacuation is necessary. Maybe start with Valnot?” Russell was surprised when the captain said this, he had thought she was talking to someone else at that moment, “Yes Ma’am” Russell did not like the idea of having to convince the Valnot General to help Pelli. Before he ordered the comms online Tiana arrived on the bridge, she looked at him then moved quickly down with a padd in hand. “It’s the current situation in words of two syllables or less; suitable for the understanding of even the most dense military politician” Tiana Smiled “I thought it might be useful” Russell looked at the padd, “well, it might help” Russell stepped forward and then gave the order “Open a secure channel to Valnot”.
Russell spent the next 25 minutes arguing with the staff of the general over the fact that the star was going to explode and convincing them they were telling the truth, he then moved onto explaining the situation to the general “General, we have between 12-15 hours until the stat of these system will explode destroying most of this system. We need you to begin a mass evacuation of your moon and any ships you can spare to assist the Pelli to evacuate would be much appreciated.” Russell looked at the General as he looked over the report they had sent down, the general looked at Russell and responded, “I will not be helping those Pelli unless you can assure me that they did not start this whole situation, and that there civilians do not do any damage to my ships” Russell was not to shocked to hear this but he hoped they would not have said the last, “We will continue to investigate the exact cause for the explosion but we can not be sure exactly who or what has caused this.” Russell left that other part alone so as not to cause issues, the general did not mention it “We will begin our evacuation as soon as we can, make sure those Pelli are ready” with that the connection snapped closed and Russell hoped that the others would not be as much as a problem.
The remaining discussions were quicker and simpler, the Pelli only noted that they did not have enough ships to carry their entire population which Russell had replied that the Valnot would be providing help on that side. As Russell came to an end to the final communication he was surprised by the request the people of Kavris had “We ask that one of our fastest ship will remain with you until the last safe moment to take readings, she is capable of travelling at 4 times the speed of light as close that we can tell. She may be able to learn something you may not” Russell was concerned about that ‘we can tell’ part of that statement. “We will discuss this later when we have the evacuation under way and when my Science officer determines the more exact time until the explosion.” at this the communication was closed, “Ok I assume you were listening to that Commander Galwyn, could you please prove that it was not the Pelli soon, and also try and get a more exact time, I would prefer not to leave a ship behind unless we are sure of the time till explosion”.

Post by Andae Blakus on Feb 5, 2008 1:13:46 GMT
Andae dutifully moved the bits of fused and melted metal away from the deflector maintenance hatch and approached the console. Not two days ago he had been at this same console, writing up a status report for the XO. The CEO looked around the maintenance room, taking in its sorry state. Despite the damage being mainly external this part of the ship had still been close enough to the outer hull, and in an area of the ship susceptible to surges in power so that such things could happen.
"Right," said Blakus, leaning down painfully to a Jeffries Tube, "Long-range deflectors aren't too necessary as they're generally only used for warp speeds, and as warp drive is down... The main thing we can do from here is to repair the close-range subspace field coils."
A series of short groans went around the cramped dark room. Separate units of subspace field coils formed part of an outdated type of Nav Deflector. This being a Nebula Class ship, it employed this kind of system. The engineers here, including Blakus, were more used to the modernised versions. Graviton Polar Generators, fitted with mini-subspatial field inducers... Oh well...
The CEO's knees and most of his other joints were hurting from bending down for most of the last six hours. Nevertheless, Blakus struggled into the Jeffries Tube and at the end of the tunnel felt acutely aware that he was a mere metre away from the cold vacuum of the black void. Space... Several engineers followed him to a junction, no more than a cubic metre-and-a-half in size. In a very narrow tunnel going vertical directly above them were, stacked upwards, three sets of subspace field coils. These were necessary for creation and subsequent amplification of a subspace distortion, deployed 2km in front of the ship. The tunnel was obviously not designed with easy access in mind. There was no easy way for Blakus and his three accompanying engineers to get up there, no ladders, no room in any case, Blakus thought grimly. He pondered. They would have to winch themselves up there, avoiding each of the coils until they reached the top one and then work their way down.
This problem was not the one that was getting to Andae the most however. He ran a few scans with his tricorder to confirm what he had monitored back in the main maintenance room and nodded knowingly. The other problem was this: all three sets of coils were completely burnt out.
He suddenly smirked at the irony of the situation. Sometimes, being a CEO can be staggeringly unfair. Someone had told the young engineer that, long ago. He was now finding it out for himself. Anger surged through Blakus and in what was a rare outbreak, he slammed the side of the maintenance junction with his open palm. The sound of the strike was a mere dull metallic thudding sound. The struck panel taunted him with the noise, it had felt no pain, and all Blakus had ended up with was a sore and red palm. The surprise was all too evident in his fellow officers' faces, but Blakus didn't care too much, it was pure frustration built up over the last six hours, finally, spilling over. "Well," he said, "Bligh, fetch some hoisting equipment for this job, and organise for replacement components for the coils to be brought from Critical Storage."
"Yes, sir."
"You two," Blakus addressed the others in the extremely small and claustrophobic junction 'room', "Let's run some further scans and find estimates for repair." Upon acknowledgement of his orders Blakus turned back to the lights of his tricorder. He ran his spare hand through his dark hair and sighed. He slowly looked up at, yet another, monumental task that was now before him.

Tiana half listened to as Russell spoke to the Valnot government and what she heard was more than enough to annoy her. Those in her immediate vicinity were subjected to more random muttering that included the words 'lobotomy' and 'phaser rifle'. In the end she and Liam and Martha Hernandez who had just come up from Stellar Cartography to add to the debate.
“Ok I assume you were listening to that Commander Galwyn, could you please prove that it was not the Pelli soon, and also try and get a more exact time, I would prefer not to leave a ship behind unless we are sure of the time till explosion”.
Tiana check to be sure that the comm channel had been closed and then dramatically rolled her eyes. "They don't want a lot do they?" She shrugged and gave a slightly wan smile "I'll do may best. At the moment it seems that it is a very rare natural phenomenon that has been increased in severity by both the high levels of kappa radiation in the system as a result of the war and the unusual mineral Karvinite." She sighed, "that's my working theory but I haven't yet been able to prove it," She broke into a smile. "of course if we do prove it then there is something we can do about it."
She turned back to the science station and started reconfiguring the sensors for the fifth time that day.

Scene VICTORY Main Bridge
‘Cmdr Matthew looked out the transparent aluminum Window on the bridge as the victory orbiting the station .
“The metallic blue color of the station stood out against the blackness of space. From this altitude, in geo-synchronous orbit some 35 000 kilometers above the Planet , everything seemed peaceful. There was no hint of the carnage that would happen in a matter of hours if our Chief Science officer Commander Galwyn could not come up with one hell of a plan to stop the sun from exploding’
“ Cmdr Matthew sat down at the Ops Station pulling up the latest information as his eyes flew over the data that they had just received, and still hadn't found anything that they didn't know.
“Starfleet has reviewed Captain Cir’Kem request for ship to help if the planets have to evacuated Commodore Rayne Gathering a Taskforce of ships And Federation Transport Vessels to aide in the evacuation if needed but will they get here in time .

Andae was deep in concentration in his work. The subspace driver coils were proving to be as much of a problem as he had first envisaged. The EM pulse had ionised the deflector dish and caused the coils to overload burning out several key components.
Most of the visual damage actually turned out to be superficial, but it was going to take a while for Blakus to fix. "This was one big EM wave," Bligh said aloud from above him, "I'm surprised the energy penetrated this far." Blakus grunted, agreeing whole-heartedly, it was as if Bligh was directly voicing Andae's dire thoughts of the situation. He didn't look up from his work, he instead continued to focus intensely on the replacement of a burnt out power module.
He could sense instinctively that Bligh was going to say something else. Always interesting how different people deal with their frustrations in different ways... Blakus thought tiredly, with not much commitment. He preferred not to say anything at all, what would be the point? It wouldn't help the situation, and would only serve to depress everybody. The taciturn engineer did look up at his ensign now, he hung suspended in a harness just like Blakus was, next to the top-most set of coils.
"Anything else Ensign?" he asked.
"No sir." Blakus saw Bligh shake his head.
"Hmm..." Blakus said for a reason he knew not. Now that that was over he could concentrate again. A thought came back to him that he had been turning over in his head for a while. He looked at his chronometer and approving of the reading he tapped his commbadge. =/\=Commander Matthew, this is Lieutenant Blakus. How's your knowledge of navigational deflector theory? I could use your help on something sir, I'm in Deflector Control.=/\=
<Tag: Cmdr. Matthew>
While waiting to hear if the Commander would take him up on his request, Blakus thought about his idea. "Bligh?" he called up.
The ensign was caught by surprise and dropped his sub-micron scanner, which Blakus instinctively caught and threw back up to him. Unfortunately the ensign then missed it and it fell right back down again, something Blakus wasn't ready for. They both cringed, dreading what might happen next. Thud! "Ow!"
"Oh, sorry crewman..." Bligh called down hurriedly to the technician who was now rubbing his sore cranium. "Yes sir?" Bligh returned to answering Blakus's original call.
The CEO couldn't help but smirk, but buried it quickly, "Tell me what you think of this Ensign. When we push the impulse drive up to full, it will blow out the engines and the power relays, and will likely cause damage to the surrounding decks, correct?" Bligh nodded. "So what if we channel the excess energy through the deflector?" Bligh frowned, so Blakus continued. "The deflector emits a source of gravitons, this energy from the impulse can be used to power the deflector. The graviton source can act as a counterbalance to the excess energy, slowing it down so that the deflector doesn't suffer a blow out. We don't have to fully repair it! We can just flush this power through the system once we replace burnt out components."

Tiana, Liam and Martha were all staring intently at the science station as the sensor data rolled in. It was only a matter of time. Tiana fought the urge to change the sensor settings once again, they were as good as they were going to be for this job which would have been hard even with the sensors at full capacity. It was frustrating. It was the waiting that was so hard, she knew they did not have much time and spending it like this was annoying.
Suddenly the station bleeped. They had all been hoping for the sound but it shocked them all. Liam pumped a fist in the air, Martha laughed. Tiana just leaned on the science station and sighed in relief. "Right, I'll get the explanation written for the FO, can you two finish planning out the deflector modifications we'll need to counter this. Liam nodded and he and Martha set to work.
Tiana started pacing again PADD in had. She was tired and not happy. After all when she had finished this report she had to go and upset the CEO which wasn't something she was looking forward to.

One of the pilots looked up at Nika when she entered, and, after a few moments of silence, Nika did speak. She knew that she wouldn't think to ask all the right questions right away, and she knew that interrogating prisoners was one of her weak points. But right now, she shoved that information to the back of her mind, because what she really wanted were answers.
“Why were my officers abducted?” Nika asked. It didn't make sense, if all the Valnot wanted was to break off the peace negotiations, they just had to say so. It was hard to arrange a peace when one side refused to sign a treaty. And, frankly, Nika didn't thing abducting Starfleet Officers was a good strategy.
Rather predictably, the pilots failed to answer. Nika shrugged slowly. “Are you aware that a full evacuation has been ordered for this system? I don't believe there will be any particular reason for you to relocate in the same system as the Pelli or Kavris.” And there was a thought. Moving at the speeds they were capable of, it would take all parties involved quite a while to reach a suitable planet for recolonization, unless they got help along the way by some warp-capable ship.
There was nothing, for a moment, except a resolute stiffening of one of the pilot's jaw, before the other one glanced at this partner, then at Nika. “Why is the system being evacuated?” he asked, and Nika told him. She didn't share the fact that it might have been intentional; she didn't think that information would help anything. Then she waited to see what the pilots had to say for themselves now.

Tiberian strode away from Sharp and the doctor, and began to gesture at the marine team surrounding the shuttle. They advanced slowly towwards the hatch, and stacked up on either side, rifles raised. Tiberian took his place at the rear of the left hand group, and gestured to the man on the front of the opposite group to fuse the door circuits, allowing them access to the shuttle. A panel was opened, and following a small shower of sparks, the hatch opened. A flashbang was thrown into the shuttle, and the marine team ran in shouting. Tiberian followed slowly, his own phaser drawn, but held loosely at his side. The marines had already disarmed the two pilots, and had them kneeling, heads down, with pastic cuffs binding their hands.
"Get them to the brig" Tiberian ordered, moving to one side as the men were half pushed, half carried out of the door.
Tiberian reholstered his phaser and followed slowly, thinking through his game plan for the interrogation. He had done just short of a dozen proper interrogations over the course of his career, and had learned that there was no set formula for success. Each situation had to be taken on its own merits, and each prisoner on their own strengths and weaknesses. These two pilots were something of a mystery, considering that they had overpowered and kidnapped more than twenty Starfleet and Marine Corps personnel during a peace treaty negotiation, and that they might then be involved in a plot to destroy their own system. Something didn't add up, and that would make questioning them all the harder.
Upon his arrival, Tiberian took a place languishing in the shadows of a corner of the room, dismissing all but two men, and waiting for the Captain. Upon her arrival, he lsitened carefully to the information given, and the questions asked, and slowly began to formulate his game plan. He moved over to whisper in the Captain's ear.
"Just go with this Captain. Trust me"
Without a look back at her, Tiberian turned, arms folded to face the two pilots.
"There are still just over twenty of my men unaccounted for. One of them is the Assistant CTSO of this vessel, and the others are members of the UFOPMC. They are probably going to die here, because we can't find them. Doesn't that bother you?"
The man remained silent, staring stoically into Tiberian's eyes. These men were obviously trained professionals. He decided to step it up a notch.
"You do know that we have to assist in the evacuation of all the peoples of this system. Given that we are only one ship, we can't help everyone. Imagine, if by happy chance that it was your families that were left behind during the evacuation effort. Imagine if they were left to die because of your actions"
"You wouldn't" the other pilot spoke up "I know your sort. Your government would never sanction this. You're bluffing, and you know it"
"You are right you know" Tiberian smiled "I'mn not a monster. I would never hurt innocent and unarmed women and children. But you're professional soldiers, just like me. And to us, we are more than happy to accept each other as a legitimate target"
He tapped his commbadge.
=/\=Wong to Sergeant Major Martinez. Disable the enemy shuttle's engines, shields and environmental controls, but leave their communications systems intact. And send a few men as an escort to the brig=/\=
=/\=I'll get it done now sir. The men are on their way=/\=
Tiberian turned back to face the prisoners.
"Now what I'm going to do is put you back on that shuttle and jettison you into space. I know old style sub-light ships, my dad taught me to fly in one of them. I know how the engines work in helping thermal regulation, and that without them, things are going to get very cold. Luckily for you, as the sun starts to decompensate, the UV rays are going to start spreading far more rapidly. Without shields or functional heat screens, your shuttle will start heating up. You'll swleter, dehydrate, and then be slow roasted over a period of several hours until you're nice and tender. I've left the comms intact, so you'll be able to hail us and tell us where are people are, and who your leaders are, just as soon as you've...sweated for long enough"
The marines had entered a few moments previously, and Tiberian stood back, gesturing to them to be taken. The forcefield was lowered and the men, now visibly unnerved, were taken forcibly from the room. Tiberian rested himself lightly against a console, tapping an indistinct tune against his leg, and staring aimlessly at the ceiling. A moment or two passed.
=/\=Martinez to Wong. One of the pilots is begging to speak to you. Should I still put them on the shuttle=/\=
=/\=Hold off for a minute. I'll be right down. WOng out=/\=
He motioned to the Captain.
"Shall we ma'am?"

He had gotten his orders to report to the U.S.S Victory the flag ship. He was happy and sad about leaving his old ship but things just happen. He snagged a high warp shuttle from the testing grounds. She had just finished her trials and would be put to use in the fleet shortly.
He had tryed to signal the vicorty but there had been no response. He plotted his course to her last known location and was making good time. When he dropped out of warp and followed the Victory ion trail he was not prepared for what he saw. For a flag ship she was looking worse for ware and had heavy damage. He noticed the shuttle bay door he tryed to hail the victory again but was not getting through.
" U.S.S Victory this is commander Pride I'm on final apporach to the shuttle bay. I will bring her in manualy please respond"
He waited for a response and started his landing plan it was not going to be easy the shuttle bay was beat up. He just hoped the tatical officer didn't blow him out of apporach path. He transmitted his orders and began. He was in for a bumpy ride there wasn't really any clear place to land so he made one. Thats when he noticed that bay force shields were down and there was no way to pressurize the bay. Thinking to himself looks like its going to be a space walk. I just home when I knock on the door they'll answer.He looked back over at his pet sleeping in her crate " Sorry Sandy your going to have to stay here for awhile until I figure out whats going on.
He put on his space suite and made his way to the air lock. It was damaged on his side he wasn't getting unless somebody let him in. He tapped on his combadge " Bridge this is commander Pride if its not to much trouble can somebody let me in. I would hate to leave its a long boring ride home"

Tiana sighed as she finished the report and then handed the PADD to Russ. She was sick of explaining things and just wanted to do something. "That's the best I can do at the moment." She smiled darkly, "If they want anything further can you tell then to get back to me in about 20 hours?"
Tag: Russ
She knew Russ knew she was joking and also knew that he wouldn't use her comment which was why he had a job that required diplomacy as a standard and she did not. Liam and Martha were still working on the deflector modifications which meant that she had a moment to grab a mug of coffee.
"Bridge, this is Commander Pride if its not to much trouble can somebody let me in. I would hate to leave, its a long boring ride home" Tiana had no idea who Commander Pride was but from the way Russell reacted she knew he was expected.
This brought them to the slightly tricky issue of a decompressed shuttle bay with no door and no external forcefield operational. Eventually after some juggling and jury-rigging between Ops, Tactical and Science (should really have been engineering but they were still busy) they managed to get a series of forcefields rigged up so that Commander Pride could come on board properly.
Tiana downed the last of her coffee just as Liam handed her the plans. "Thanks." She sighed. "Computer, where is Lieutenant Blakus?" "Lieutenant Blakus is in the deflector maintenance junction." Tiana sighed again. "And where is the deflector maintenance junction?" The computer responed with a series of directions. Hearing they involved Jefferies Tubes Tiana sighed once more. She could have just commed him but when one was the bearer of bad news it always seemed fairer to say it in person. It was time to go upset the CEO.
"Martha, you're with me. Liam you're in charge here." The other science staff nodded and Martha and Tiana set off. It took them a while but they reached the CEO.
"Lieutenant Blakus," Tiana called. "I need to speak to you now." He muttered something Tiana didn't catch and literally disentangled himself from his repair work. Tiana cut to the chase handing over the PADD of plans at the same time. "I think we've found a way to slow the collapse of the star down, perhaps even prevent collapse all together.
