ooc: started with commodore Loskene's permission
ic:
Sonak nodded as Loskene invited them to the starbase's conference room. She closed the link then turned to her officers. By now, the ship had gotten back together, and all senior staff had reconvened on the bridge. "Well, you heard him," Sonak said, "we have 30 minutes to get to the starbase." She tapped her combadge. "Bridge to sickbay, doctor report to transporter room one in 20 minutes, we have a meeting to attend to."
~~ later ~~
The entire senior staff had gathered in the transporter room and the transporter chief was ready to beam them to starbase. Seconds later, the Vesuvius officers materialised on the starbase, waiting for the crew of the USS Jefferson. They waited politely for them to arrive before entering the room.
Once the other crew had arrived, Sonak stepped forward and stretched out her right hand, smiling softly. "Greetings Commodore Loskene, it is a pleasure to finally meet you in person. I have heard many things about you."
<crews, go meet one another!>

OFF: Yes, time for introductions!
Loskene held out his hand, looked somewhat dumbfounded.
Loskene: ...Good to finally meet you Commodore... You...are a Vulcan....right?
Sonak: That's correct.
Loskene: I must be sicker then I already am. Did you just crack a smile?
Sonak: Oh, sorry for any confusion. I am Vulcan, but I have adopted several non-Vulcan nuicances. I grew up with humans after my parents were killed.
Loskene: Oh, I believe I understand. It isn't easy is it, first interactions with humans, I mean. Anyway, you put up quite a surprise for us.
Sonak: Apparentely, you were ready for us.
Loskene: We weren't sure what was going on.
Sonak: It's very loud in here.
Loskene: Yes, seems like everyone is getting friendly...

"Yay, being introduced to people, my favourite." L'Ola said, rolling her eyes.
"Do you plan on working with them and not knowing who they are?" Nick asked.
"Suits me fine, I just don't want to introduce myself to any of them."
"Only 'cause you're too scared."
"Scared? Me? No way. Just watch."
As Nick has intended, L'Ola walked over to the nearest officer.
"Hi! I'm L'Ola Kanz, Chief Science Officer on the Ves. Who are you?"
Nick smiled and went over to talk to the Jefferson's Chief Engineer.

Max was wearing an eye-patch from the previous Jefferson mission. The console had damaged his eye a bit, and on his request, wanted to look like a pirate.
"Garrr Matey" he said to Nick as Nick walked over to him. Nick smiled, and walked off.
Max decided to head for the refreshments.
Max "Garr! Nothing like a steak to get your...some pirate thing going!"
L'Ola "Hi! I'm L'Ola Kanz, Chief Science Officer on the Ves. Who are you?"
Max turned around to see L'Ola, The Chief Science Officer on the Ves.
Max "Garr! Max be my name! I have an eye-patch so i look like a pirate. Food? No? good. I like food"
L'Ola just stared at him.
Max "Ok, im Max Power. CEO of the USS Jefferson. I just got promoted to Lt (jg) for my work in saving billions of lives. However, we lost 3 BBQ's in the process. Tragic...real tragic"
L'Ola "Um ok...ARe you normal?"
Max "Quite certainly. Um...pass us the steak over there. Im starving! I havent eaten since breakfast!"
L'Ola "Its 1100"
Max "Yeah...mid-morning snack."
L'Ola "How do you stay in top physical condition?"
Max "I excersise."

From the side, Sonak watched as Max introduced himself to her science officer. Her amazement grew when she saw him gobble up a large steak, and not just one, but three of them. Amazed, she turned back to Loskene. "That chief engineer of yours, your replicators must have a hard time keeping up with him," she said, suppressing a grin. She felt a little sorry for L'Ola, but when she saw the chief of science laugh heartily, she knew this was going to be easier than she had thought.
From the corner of her eyes, she saw that Jatan had found the Jefferson's chief medical officer, Daya, and the two of them were motioning heavily, as if to determine who had caught the largest fish on the last shoreleave. She grinned, and reached for a platter herself. While it was only 1100, she'd not had time to take care of her own breakfast. Before beaming down she had made sure that Nanny would look after her children during her absence.
A young Bajoran woman joined them, and from the look Loskene and the woman exchanged, Sonak knew something was going on between the two of them. It made her think of her own relationship with Jatan. "Greetings," Sonak said to the Bajoran, "I am Commodore Sonak, I command the Vesuvius-A. However, I am off duty so you may call me Sonak."
<Kel/Loskene>
Soon they were joined by Strife, who was waddling towards them, careful not to spill her drink. Sonak wondered how close to term her new counselor actually was, and determined that it would not be too long now before she would give birth. "Commodore, lieutenant, may I introduce my chief counselor, Lieutenant Commander Semia Cavit. She recently joined my crew, but has already proven to be an asset." She turned to Strife. "Ms Cavit, meet Commodore Loskene and Lieutenant Joni Kel."
<Strife>

It was considerably busy in the room where both crews met. Fox decided to get a drink. On his way to getting one a few Jefferson officers greeted him and introduced themselfs.
<tags anyone?>
After a while he got to the replicator. He ordered it to make a coffee, a strong one. While the replicator was prepairing his coffee Fox looked around a bit. When the replicator was done he took his drink and mingled in the crowd again.
Doing so he almost bumped into Matthew, almost spilling his coffee. "Excuse me." Fox said. "No problem." Matthew answered. "I beleive we havent met yet." Fox continued. "I'm Commander Fox, First Officer of the Vesuvius." "Nice to meet you." he replied and introduced himself.

Max and L'Ola were laughing when Nick walked over again.
Nick "So...Max. I heard you changed the holo emitters into transporter emitters. Pretty impressive. How did you manager?"
Max "Garr! It was one dark savage night on the ship! Instead of emitting photons, we configed it to emit the transporter moloecuiles. We just created a larger transport buffer, so we could store more people before re-materilizing them."
Nick "Impressive. Care to show me this one times?"
Max "Certainly my matey!"
By this time, L'Ola had walked off and left the two engineers to chat.
Nick "Just cause you got an eye patch, doesnt mean your a pirate"
Max "Garr you be right there matey! I've allways been the one who eats food and plays pratical jokes. Between you and me, there is a BBQ being set up on the bridge. Im disgusing it as a console. Shhh dont tell anyone"

Loskene couldn't help but grin and feel slightly embaressed about Max Power. He surpressed a laugh and continued his conversation with Commodore Sonak. Joni Kel walked up to Sonak.
Loskene: Commodore Sonak, this is Ensign Joni Kel.
Kel: Hello, Commodore
Sonak smiled and felt that Loskene had strong feelings for the woman.
Loskene: Um. Ms. Kel, have you tried the food?
Kel: Yes... (Whispers) Why is this replicated?
Loskene: Shh! Not too loud.
Sonak: Oh, here comes my counselor...Her name is Semia Cavit.
Loskene: Yeah... what?
Sonak: She is our new counselor.
Loskene: Strife?!
Cavit: Semia
Loskene: Sorry about that.
Sonak: Do you two know each other?
Loskene: As a matter of fact...she once was my Chief helmsman...
Semia curver her brow in anger. Loskene quickly corrected himself.
Loskene: Ahem. Helmswoman.
Cavit: Much better sir.
Loskene: How have you been Strife...er Semia?
<Cavit>
Loskene: She is one heck of an officer. Has she ever shown you her collection of ancient weapons?
Commander Matthew cut in to Sonak and Loskene's conversation.
Matthew: Excuse me for interrupting you sir, but Admiral Lin has just delivered this padd. It has detailed information on our next assignment.
Loskene: Thank you Commander. Hmm... our orders. This seems much more complicated then the first padd that Starfleet gave me. Take a look at this commodore.
Loskene handed the padd to Sonak.
Sonak: Much more detail... Let me look this over before we start.
Loskene: Of course.

Nick smirked at his comrade and leaned over, "I've got a slurpy station in my office."
Eyebrows raised Max lifted his eye patch with one hand and moved a steak to his mouth with the other. A muffled "garr" escaped his mouth as the steak entered. Nick snickered and raised his glass to his mouth for a swig of Romulan Koolaid. He noted the two commodores standing off in the corner. Sonak looked concerned as did Loskene.
"Wonder whats up," He said and took another sip. Max just shrugged, steak sauce dripping down his chin. In a change of thought Nick leaned over to Max and whispered, "Wanna see my cloaking device?"
Maxs' eyes bugged out and he stared at the commander. "Foaking Dffith!?" he said, his mouth yet again full of food. "OOO!?" he asked pointing at Nick. Nick just nodded with a big grin on his face.
"Only ship in the fleet."

Sonak read over the PADD carefully and frowned. "Commodore, I suggest we convene the meeting. From what I gather that is given here -she held up the PADD- the situation on Arctica is dire." She shivered involuntarily, the name alone of the planet suggested much, and the information on the PADD told her that the average temperature on the planet was -20 degrees CElsius. She never liked cold all that much, had always been glad when the Earth winters would go on into spring.
She handed the PADD back to Loskene. "Despite the dire situation, perhaps we can make this mission a little fun," she suggested, pointing at a picture she had frozen on the PADD screen. It showed a nice snowy slope, quite suitable for ski-ing or snowboarding.
Turning her attention to both crews, she drew their attention by calling out, "Attention both crew, please convene into the briefing area...we have an urgent mission on our hands."
ooc:losk would you care to give the mission briefing? those of you who have not posted yet <ok I'll just poke the VES crew...Losk can poke the JEFF's> please do so as soon as you can so that we can get this show on the road.

Raiben has sat on a long forgotten chair in a long forgotten place of the table. He was observing the crowd.
As like every security officer will do he was observing with questioning looks. Thats what he was trained of. To be suspicious of every occasion. That is the sole purpose he was here. He is doing this so great that he can save a ship.
The crew of Vesuvius is unquestionable. They are the best the Starfleet can offer.
"Attention both crew, please convene into the briefing area...we have an urgent mission on our hands."said Sonak.
Raiben then turned toward the briefing room with haste. He has to be the first to enter and last to leave.

Max saw Raiben hastly walking towards the briefing room. "Hmm...over my dead body" he though.
Max bolted towards the door and beat Raiben a good 5 feet.
Max "Garr Matey!"
Raiben had a dissapointed and annoyed look in on his face.
Max "Don't be bothered by it! I know you CSTO all love to be the first here and last to leave...Garr! But its more than that! Take it from me matey...no need to sit by yourself...have some fun! But remember: Duty comes first...when you have to be on duty. If your not on duty, then relax. Well, i hope it helps you. GARR!"
Max walked into the briefing room.

<Pokes Jefferson crew who have not posted yet. You know who you are. > Loskene noticed the room was a little noisy. He cleared his throat to try to get the rooms attention. Still, no one heard him. He decided to go to more drastic measures. He stamped his foot on the floor. At first no one heard that either. He stomped it a second time and everyone stood up, shocked. It had been quite louder than the first stomp. Loskene: Attention everyone. I have the padd that holds information. Loskene cleared his throat... Loskene: "Crews of the Vesuvius-A and the Jefferson, we have been given a most important task. We are to head to a planet in the Arctica system. Planet Arctica VIII to be precise. It is on the fringe of the system. The system is very old, nearly 8 billion. The sun is average size, red in color which suggests it is running out of steam and a few billion years it may explode, or shrivel down to a dwarf. A few weeks ago, A federation archaelogical and trooper team were heading for Outpost 78, which is a few light years from the system. They lost navigational control and we are not certain why at this point. Starfleet thinks it was due to pilot error or an engineering error. But, yet again, we are not sure. To be brief, we will embark for this system, and rescue the marooned officers and civilians. Loskene hooked up the padd to the viewscreen. A large panaramic picture appeared. Loskene: This is the planet Arctus VIII. As you can tell be looking at it, it is not a very friendly place. It has never been explored, because of the obvious dangers. The picture you are looking at was taken by sattelite. You can see the many mountains and the snow covered ridges. The planet is a geological mess. 100% covered with a desert of ice and snow... We have no idea how safe the ground is. Whether it be thick ice, or thin ice etc. That is just one of the risks. I do not believe I need to tell you that there may indeed be others. Each of our ships will be getting an inventory, special gear we will need et cetera. This is not any kind of a secret mission, this is just a mission of mercy. Those are Federation citizens and they will need our help. We will first do it the safe way. We will take detailed sensor scans of the planet from above, from the comfort of our vessels. If that fails, we will have to use landing parties. And that ladies and gentlemen, is what the report reads. Now, I have to say something. This mission we are about to sail off to.... This will be challenging. It may perhaps be the toughest thing that any of have ever faced. This is about Safety, teamwork and perserverence. I have faith in all of you... Even our good friend Mr. Power. A light chuckle was heard throughout the room. <TAG Sonak>

"Thank you for your thorough briefing commodore," Sonak said formally, taking the floor. She gazed around the gathered crews and noted that each of her own officers sat beside his or her counterpart from the Jefferson. Some were already busy conferring with one another, while otthers were sitting at attention and listening carefully.
"This mission will be dangerous," she repeated, "and I want you all to be very aware of those dangers. When we beam down, you are never to walk off alone but always remain with your assigned buddy. Science and engineering, work on a way to make our phasers and tricorders work properly. Atmospheric interference will make our usual gear work improperly. Medical and counseling, make sure that all people are physically and mentally fit to take on this mission, and prepare a personal med-kit for each member, based on fitness and species. Security and navitation, try to figure out a way to safely navigate the surface of the planet, as well as tracking down the last co-ordinates of both the archaeological team and the Trooper team. They are not using state-of the art Federation equipment, but rely on 20th century vox-systems."

"We will be beaming down in mixed teams after achieving orbit around Arctus III, thus we expect a report from all departments before arrival."

Johnson was in a bad mood. He had been since the mission to Rova III. Being captured on his first mission as an officer was not what he had had in mind. He knew that it was his own fault and that annoyed him more.
His body was still aching from all the injuries that had been inflicted upon him and to top that, Daya had told him that he had to wear a brain monitor for a while to make sure that he was okay.
He hadn't involved himself in the mingling of the crews and just sat in his chair in a sulky sort of way.

"Science and engineering, work on a way to make our phasers and tricorders work properly. Atmospheric interference will make our usual gear work improperly." "How much information do we have on the interference?" L'Ola asked. "Not much at the moment" Loskene replied, "we should receive more information about atmospheric conditions soon, but we can give you everything we have." Listening to check for vital information, and to check that no one was asking her questions, L'Ola started to drift off thinking about modifications they were likely to need. And the matter of how much equipment would need modifying. At the end of the Briefing, she asked Max and Nick what sort of modifications they thought would be needed. "We should probably go discuss this on one of the ships." Nick and Max glanced at each other. "How about in Engineering on the Vesuvius?" Nick suggested. L'Ola couldn't help but laugh for a second, "Okay, new plan. You show Max your cloaking device, and I'll start downloading the information that we'll need to do some work. We can meet up a bit later and start planning modifications. How does that sound?" <Max/Nick>

"Sounds good," Nick said with a wide grin. He leaned over a placed a kiss on her cheek, "See ya in a couple hours." He then motioned to the turbolift with a bow and Max swashbuckled in with a "garr".
~Ves Engineering~
"So you guys can fly through things? Literally?"
"Yep, phase shifting hides us from pretty much everything and allows us to bypass conventional means of taversing around objects. However it is a tad tempermental as it doesn't like Romulan warpcores and such. So you wouldn't want to fly into a planet just to be on the safe side."

Raiben listened the briefing silently.
They are going to chase down dead bodies at an ice covered planet. He wished that some of those that crashlanded was luck to live.
To find a way to navigate the planet. He is not an engineer but doing it with shuttles will not be easy.
"Commodore, while we are on station my advice will be to change our load of shuttles with Valkyrie's. The shuttles will not be able to hold the tension of snow and that temprature. But the Valkyrie class fighters are created by the starfleet to meet extreme tensions."said Raiben.
"This will limit our numbers but will increase the efficency. The Valkyrie's hold much more sensor tools and a more powerfull engine but lack the warpcore for long journeys"added Raiben.
OFF:A Sec/Tac officer is never offduty. His duty to be sure of the ships security never ends. May be you engineers out there can sleep with a damaged warp core but we here cannot sleep with a missing thootpick.

Sonak gazed at Loskene, then at Raiben Winters. "Sounds like a sensible idea Mr Winters," she said, even though she had no idea what a Valkyrie vessel was. It was just a bad timing that her own navigator had to have to leave on emergency leave, and their back-up had fallen ill just recently. Marill would have loved the idea of steering one of the Valkyrie, she mused. "Mr Ramsden, your opinions?" she asked, turning to her own chief of security.
Atmospheric distortions would indeed mess up beaming down, but landing a shuttle, even one with enhanced sensors would be twice as dangerous. "Mr Raibe, you are most welcome to take a shuttle down with sensor equipment for use down planet," she continued, "but for people I believe it would be safer to beam down." While owning her own private shuttle, that was safely docked at Starbase Bellicose, Sonak didn't like traveling by shuttle, the space she found too confined for her comforts. "Your opinion commodore?" she asked Loskene, who had remained silent.

Max "Can it fly through a giant chocolate bar the size of a planet?"
Nick laughed
Nick "Thats the 12th food item you suggested. And for the 12th time...YES IT CAN!" nick chuckled.
Max "Wow...its kinda small dont you think?"
Nick "What? The cloaking device?"
Max "No...a chocolate bar the size of a planet. Hmmm i wont have my BBQ's on this ship...so i've taken the liberty of preparing one earlyer!"
Max pulled out a metal rod from his bag. He pressed a button and unfolded was a BBQ.
Nick "What the.....how'd you....oh my...."
Max "I bought this device from a guy on Starbase before being assigned to the USS Jefferson. He said it would make things compact...so it worked! I carry it everywhere...where can i store it? Engineering? Sounds good. I will start cooking us steaks as soon as we get down there."
Nick just looked at Max as he walked off towards engineering.
-Engineering-
Max "Hows it going? You look hungry. Want a steak? I put you down for three. Have you tried my seafood? best in the whole of Africa. Im taking orders for anyone who wants a freshly prepared meal while i work. What you all say?"
Nick was a little fraustrated by this/
Nick "MR POWER! we have work to do!"
Max "Indeed...three steaks and some seafood on the side? ok ok...i will put it away...i will cook at lunch...which is now. Im off to the mess hall. Join you guys later!"
Max headed to the mess hall for lunch. Who knows who he might meet in there. He also had a padd with him looking at the information he had gotten about the interference
Max "pfft...i will never work this out." he thought to himself before arriving in the mess hall with a BBQ. He got cooking straight away and soon a few more crew members were recieving some of the famous seafood Max was known for back in Africa.

As Ensign Joni Kel entered the large conference room she smiled. She barely knew half of the gathered people which would allow her to meet and hopefully befriend the rest. Smiling and waving she greeted the officers of the Jefferson and found herself a drink. Looking around she located her captain, talking to a Vulcan woman.
Pardoning herself she moved towards the both of them and interrupted the conversation, smiling softly at Loskene. Whatever was happening between them was still unspoken and Joni didn’t mind that. She had all the time in the world and they would still need a lot of time to get closer, if that was what they both desired. A more work-related smile was flashed at Sonak. “It’s a pleasure to meet you commodore Sonak, I’m ensign Joni Kel, counselor aboard the Jefferson. Please, call me Joni when protocol permits it.” The young TRILL (<---) woman said as she shook hands with the Vulcan.
Several words of small-talk were exchanged until a third woman joined the conversation. Greetings were exchanged and Joni’s interest was spiked. When she would have a moment she would surely talk to this woman a bit more. It was always a pleasure to learn more about her work field, and the best way was though colleagues.
Semia and herself exchanged a confused and worried look as the PADD was passed around. Moving so a half circle could be formed she listened to the new mission. The first thing she noted was that this was the other extreme from their previous mission. She was pleased that this planet wouldn’t be another hot one. She had had huge troubled with the heated planet they had just finished saving. She still felt slightly ill from the exposure and relished the medication Daya had put her on to restore her synaptic’s.
During the briefing she didn’t say a word. She just paid close attention and tried to absorb all of the information given. When she found the time she would mule on it and look at it from all different positions, as she did usually. Right now all that remained was a need to help the scientists and get to know the other crew. She liked joined missions a lot, not that she was the overly social type, but it gave so much opportunity to learn.
She took her orders from Commodore Sonak and nodded in agreement. When the two commodores were done she turned to the woman still next to her.
“Lieutenant Commander Cavit, maybe we could assist each other? We would need to be up to date about both of the crew’s mental state, and that always seems to work better in conversation.” She spoke, still half in thought. She wondered if any other crew would need to be prepped better for this mission then others…

Commander” Matthew Exited the Mission Briefing a little early Once the Mission Detail where Laid out with mixed feelings but he had to make sure that the Jefferson would be ready to get underway once the commodore Transported Back on Board the Jefferson Had some Quick repairs Done Over the Last 48 hours and also taken on some new Crew and supply’s .
He knew he had a good Bridge Crew with him but at the same time there was the trepidation's about the possibility they may not make it back alive.
However it was not the first time that SF officers were exposed to such dangers and non-had been known to shrink in the sight of such danger.
As he entered the main bridge he headed over to Operations, Ensign Colt was madly tapping away on his console and the room was a hive of activity.
Ensign “Colt spun Towards Matthew as he came onto the bridge, "Sir the star base just signal that all personal and supplies have been transferred !"
Cmdr Matthew “ sat down in the command chair; taped his COMM badge, “ Computer, Security Authorization Matthew , Alpha, Zeta, zero zero, three!” The Jefferson Main computer acknowledged the command code in its usual Monotone voice, “Authorization accepted!”
Commander Matthew “Computer Display the Latest Starfleet Intelligent Ships movement reports for the Arctica system all friendly and Non friendly & the Planet Arctica VI Atmospheric Surveys Reports to this Console.

After the meeting, Sonak remained behind with Commodore Loskene. "Looks like our crew is getting along just fine," she commented, after seeing Joni Kel walk off with Semia Cavit. "I just hope my counselor will be all right," she continued, "she looks as if she is very close to term, however while I am reluctant to take her along I think she can manage. She is a tough woman and would not like it if I left her behind."
She gathered her PADD's then felt her stomach rumble. "I would suggest getting some lunch," she said, "would you care to join me?"
~~ somewhat later, in a restaurant on starbase Assaillant ~~
Sonak set her plate down on the table and waited until Loskene had sat down as well. "I notice you and your counselor are getting along well," she said softly, smiling a little, "I can sense her feelings for you, as well as yours for her." Seeing Loskene's startled expression, she her smile widened. "No need to be startled. Myself and my chief medical officer have a developed a relationship," she said, "it started as pure comfort when I lost my bondmate, but the feelings between us grew as time passed. I was pregnant at the time, and during that time we developed an emotional bond. I would not know what I had done had he not been there. I have four small children to take care of, I have no doubt that you will meet them if and when you would set foot aboard the Vesuvius-A. They are very curious."
She paused taking a bite of her vegetarian sandwich. "Do you have children commodore?" she finally asked.
